Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is a large breed dog that originated in Germany as a hearding dog. They are a hardy breed and very intelligent. Today they are used as police and guard dogs. In the hands of a responsible owner a well trained and socialized Rottweiler can be a reliable, alert dog and a loveing companion. The Rottweiler is basically a calm , confident, and courageous dog. They Have a inherent desire to protect there home and family. They are strong fighters that seem immune to pain. With proper training and handling they can be loyal, loveing and very rewarding companions. They do require owners that can handle there massive size , because
of there size training should begin fairly young-while the dog is still young and great care should be taken to ensure the dogs do not become vicious. They love and need companionship and socialization to be trully happy. When a Rottweiler is consistently brought up and trained , it will be a good playmate for the children. It is in breed temperament that a Rottweiler is often misjudged. A well breed Rottweiler will be calm, confident, and courageous with a reserved attitude.

A Beautiful Rottweiler

The Doberman Pincher

Doberman Pincher

I Have always liked this breed they are trully
a beautifull dog to look at. This breed is intelligent ,alert and a loyal companion. They where commonly used as police dogs, guard dogs, or watch dogs but this is less common today. The Doberman's natural tail is long ,the short tail is a result of
docking . A procedure which a majority of the tail is surgically removed within days of the dogs birth. Doberman Pincher's will often have there ears cropped , as do many other breeds. Doberman Pincher ear cropping is usally done at the age of 7 to 9 weeks. Doberman Pinchers in general are gentle, loyal, loving, and intelligent dogs. Doberman's are intense and energetic with tremendous strength and stamina. They are loyal , noble, and affectionate with family. It likes to be physically close to the family members. They are a people oriented breed. They need a owner who is willing to discipline the dog with out being afraid of him. All family members should learn to handle the dog properly, because Doberman's can get pushy if allowed to get there way to much. Doberman's are like big protective babies. The Doberman was breed to work with man , and he needs his interaction often. They
must be with family and not abandoned in the back yard.

The Kiss

The photograph above shows a red Doberman licking an exhausted fireman. He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire. She is pregnant. The firefighter was afraid of her at first, because he had never been around a Doberman before. When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed this red Doberman in the distance looking at the fireman. He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do. As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, just as the photographer snapped this photograph.

The Great Dane

Great Dane

The Great Dane also known as the gentle giant are known for there size and there gentle personality. They are also considered one of the tallest dogs along with the Irish wolfhound. They are a giant dog that combines nobility and robustness and power with elegance.
The Great Dane Is dignified, sweet, and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. They love everyone and needs and wants to be around people. They are known not to bark much And only become aggressive when the circumstances require it. They are a steady dog, very dependable. They are brave and a loyal dog and make good watchdogs. Because of there large size these dogs should be thoroughly obedience trained when young so the dog will be manageable when older.
The Great Danes ears may be cropped or not. There ears naturally fold over there head and droop along the neck. Although this dog can be somewhat active and needs a period of exercise each day to stay fit, the Great Dane is a great house dog.Like most larger breeds the Dane has a smaller life span then small dogs, if healthy a Great Dane can live up to 10 years. A Great Dane can also affect the family budget, larger food dish, larger collar, higher dose of medicine, larger is always more money. Those that can cope with or prefer a large breed dog will love the Great Dane. This is a people oriented dog, loving and kind, playful and even spirited, a true companion dog. He needs space to accommodate his long legs and large body, but he likes nothing more then to spend time with his owner.

temperment. They are gentle and friendly, alert, eager to please, and adaptable. They are very intelligent and independent. They can be very stubborn and become easily bored. There independent and stubborn nature may be challenging at times.

The Mastiff is not an overly active dog, but he does need moderate excercise in order to keep him fit and healthy. They are to large for apartment living. In the right environment , and with early socialization and the correct training, these dogs make good family pets. Books about working Dog breeds

Working Dogs

Great Books to read to help in chooseing the right dog for you .It is always important to research each breed to find
the right match for you and your family.

Always Consider Rescue

There are some great dogs in the working group. If you find that one of these dogs is a perfect match for you and your family , please consider adopting a unwanted dog at your local shelter. There are so many unwanted dogs in need of a loveing and forever home. Give them a chance and consider adopting.

The working Dog

A diverse group skilled in a number of disciplines, most working breeds are robust, intelligent and headstrong, often unsuitable for novice owners. Made up of guardians of livestock and property, police dogs, sled dogs and rescue dogs, these workers come in all shapes and sizes, from the standard schnauzer to the Great Dane. But for the most part, these are large, powerful dogs.

The Akita (Japan), the Komondor (Hungary), the Portuguese water dog, the Newfoundland, the Saint Bernard (Switzerland), the Alaskan Malamute, the Bernese Mountain dog (Switzerland) and many more make this group a veritable United Nations of dogs. Without the right training, some working dogs can be difficult to handle, even dangerous. Very bright and rather determined breeds such as Rottweilers, Dobermans and Akitas have become extremely popular, even trendy.

Motivated by rising inner-city crime rates and by the rather twisted notion that owning a powerful dog somehow enhances one's social standing, all too many people have invested a lot of money in acquiring one of these dogs, but sometimes nothing can convince some of these dogs that not all strangers, especially children, pose a threat.
