Building a Brighter Future for Children Living in Poverty
My partner and I have been supporting a child in Bogota, South America, for a couple of years now.
When I visited Catagena In Colombia (not far from Bogota) in 1997, I became acutely aware of the poverty of children in this country. It was a real culture shock to be sitting in a restaurant and having very young children begging for food as you ate.
I have nothing but admiration for what World Vision does and I am keen to support their endeavours through this lens.
I have certainly learnt a lot more about their great work through this process.
One of the most rewarding aspects of sponsoring a child through World Vision is to see their progress as they grow and develop.

World Vision Connect - Together We Can Save Lives
There are many ways to reach out and touch someone, and make a real difference in their lives, and yours.
Learn:
* how the things we do make an impact on the lives of others, especially those living in extreme poverty
* why poverty exists, and why we should care about it
* what actions you can take about things that really matter to you, that will have a positive impact on poverty
* how to make our voices heard, and how to listen to what others have to say
* how each of us as individuals - not just governments or businesses - can make a real difference when we act together
- Women's inequality
- From the moment they are born, women and girls around the world face discrimination. From issues like women having lower earnings than men in Australia, to tragedies like the killing of baby girls in China, women in every country are not treated equally to men.
- Disability, not inability
- Disability is not just a cause of poverty for those affected. It is also the result of poverty, because of its connections with disease, inadequate health care, conflict and discrimination.
- Child trafficking
- Child trafficking is one of the gravest forms of child abuse in the world today. It is a multi-billion dollar industry that involves an estimated 1.2 million children every year. It happens mainly to children who come from poor countries.

Ron, you are doing a very good thing with this lens and your link offer. Through Village of Ordinary, I'm working to clarify a dream and make real a world in which all children begin life so loved that poverty becomes unthinkable and unknown. Posted June 15, 2007 |
