Worm Composting Bins - A Year Round Composting Solution

Worm Composting Bins and composting worms are a great way to get started in reducing your household waste and turn your kitchen scraps into wonderful super soil.

Many people get confused when it comes to worm composting and think that regular earthworms can do the job, when in fact these kinds of worms will find it difficult to survive in a worm composter as these composting systems are soil less and regular worms just can't survive long in that environment.

Worm composting isn't difficult and many people choose to make their own worm composters but if your not that kind of person there are many great ready-to-buy worm composters that do an excellent job and many can be used indoors and outside.

This Worm Composting System Cant Be Beat

The Worm Factory Composting Bin makes composting easy. It is designed with a thermo siphon air flow system that speeds up the composting process by allowing air to enter in on all four sides always exposing your kitchen scraps to a free flow of fresh air. Compost creates heat and gases that rise through the system and exit out the 4 sides of the lid. By using worms and this thermo siphon design you can now produce compost much faster than traditional composting methods.

This worm composting system is also designed to be used indoors and out without the odor associated with other composting bins. So now you can enjoy composting year round making this a great composting solution for people in apartments, kitchens, garages etc.

Reader Comments - "The book details how you can set up your own vermicompost bin, either by making it yourself or by purchasing a commercial worm bin. It also even describes how some school systems have saved themselves bundles of money by having worms eat the schoolkids' lunch scraps rather than pay for commercial garbagemen to haul the stuff away!"

These little creatures arrived in a timely manner and in very good health. I was particularly impressed because we ordered our worms in the middle of winter (cold weather), and was concerned about them sitting and freezing inside a cold storage warehouse, but... here they are, happy and healthy and doing what worms do best, i.e., eating our garbage

Can O Worms - Vermicomposting Bin

An Easy Earthworm Composting System

can o worms
The Can-O-Worms Vermicomposter is a multi level composting system that can be used indoors or out. It's fast and easy to set up. Just start with some moist bedding for the worms like shredded newspaper or peat moss. Soil is not recommended as the type of worms used in vermicomposting are not earth worms. Then add in some kitchen waste and the worms and you'll soon have some wonderful rich compost in as little as 6 weeks. Generally, one pound of worms can take care of a half-pound of kitchen and garden waste.

User Comments Suzanna - "We have had our Can o' Worms for about 7 years. It is a wonderful eco-friendly way to create nutrient rich mulch and "worm tea" for your garden. It is also a great way to reduce your environmental footprint by making good use of your organic waste yourself rather than throwing things in the landfill or down the sink disposal."

Square Foot Gardening

Worm Casings Will Love Your New Garden

I'm a big fan of Square Foot Gardening. I have been using this method of gardening for several years now and I am always surprised at just how much harvest I get every year. So are my neighbors as well. After all I usually harvest so much food that my family can hardly eat it all and I usually land up giving half of it away to my neighbors.

Square Foot Gardening differs from traditional row gardening in that everything is planted in "squares". You see row gardening is really meant for the farmer who needs rows so that he can get his tractor and implements up and down the rows. But as urban backyard gardeners we don't have that need and so there is a better way. With square foot gardening you'll learn that method and garden for less work and in less space and get more produce and food for your family then you could imagine.

Reader Comments J Coleman - "I'll admit that I am a lazy gardener. I get all excited at the beginning of the season, then I just let the plants do their thing. That seems to be working just great with square foot gardening. After the initial setup, I spend less than 20 minutes a week on my garden, and it is doing wonderfully after just six weeks. Everything is thriving, I have had only 3 weeds, and we are already harvesting strawberries, kale, and will very soon have lettuce and spinach. My tomato plants are over a 12 inches high and some I started from seed in the SF garden. Even better is that I brought my garden with me when we recently moved. Try that with a conventional garden!
