How Does a Worm Farm Work?

Worm farms are an ideal way to reduce your organic kitchen waste and get fantastic fertilizer for your garden.

How Does a Worm Farm Work?

Food scraps and organic waste is placed at the top of the worm box. Eventually, the worms come up to eat it. The worms digest their yummy organic meal and then, inevitably, they pass their solid waste ( call worm castings).

This worm poop - errr, castings, is then harvested and can be used as a conditioner for your soil. The liquid waste from the worm farm drains through your worm farm and is collected to make a fabulous garden fertilizer.

A worm farm, when built and maintained properly, is a perfect ecosystem!

Worm farms can help reduce the stress on our landfills AND save us some money we spend when we fertilize our gardens.

Oh, and the worms are really happy, too!

Organic Gardening | Companion Planting Guide

Companion Gardening

Most gardeners have heard of companion planting and may know that you should plant garlic under your roses, or plant onions and carrots next to each other, but there's so much more to it as I found out recently.

I've just read a great book on companion planting, written by Julie Villani, a passionate organic grower, who's astounded me with her depth of knowledge on companion planting. Not only does her e-book reveal what to plant near what and what not to, but how to reduce your workload in the garden and all sorts of priceless gems.

She has a little e-book out which I found invaluable. It covers things like

How to choose the right plants to grow together

Which plants you must never grow together

How to protect your fruits and vegetables from insect attack

How much to plant for your family

How to save money by not having to replace sickly plants

How to reduce your gardening workload - let mother nature do it for you

If you're interested to find out more, read Companion Planting Guide.

The more we know about working in harmony with nature, the healthier our plants are.
