Girl Talk is Gregg Gillis, Gregg Gillis is Girl Talk

I was listening to the radio one here in Sydney, Australia. I was listening to FBI 94.5 radio station, when I heard some music that tickled me in the right way. The music was different to what I have been listening to and I'll tell you why.

I was listening to a DJ mix, and not just any DJ mix, it was a production by Girl Talk. What was significant about this music was not that it was a DJ mix, because I hear them all the time, but that it was a mixture off all types of music together.

Have you ever wonder what it would sound like if you mixed hip hop, pop, retro and RnB together. Well that's exactly what Gregg Gillis has done.

Why So Serious?

The way he makes his music is by sampling different songs and putting them together on his computer to make a new mix.

He specializes in mashup style remixes, in which he uses often a dozen or more unauthorized samples from different songs to create a new song; The New York Times Magazine has called his music "a lawsuit waiting to happen.", a criticism that Gillis has attributed to a mainstream media that wants "to create controversy where it doesn't really exist," citing fair use as a legal backbone for his sampling practices.
