Real Men Eat Quiche, and Use a WoW Guide
Is a WoW guide really necessary for experienced WoW players, or just for beginners?
Both new players and those who have played it for a long, long time can benefit from a detailed guide written by an experienced player.
There are many reasons why; new players may find themselves floundering in the WoW world without knowing the best quests to do, the easiest way to mine for ore, or the quickest way to raise their gold level.
The more experienced WoW players may want a guide because they've gotten far enough to join a guild and they've realize when they talk to their guidemates that they have so much less gold than everyone else, or wonder if they've wasted a lot of time leveling up and if there might be a better way for their next character.
Whatever the reason, there are so many people who devote themselves to mastering Wow that it isn't difficult to find a really, really good WoW guide.
There are a few types:
Freebies
These are the websites that have public pages telling you exactly where to go and what to do. The good thing about these sites are that they don't cost a dime, but the bad thing is that you constantly have to alt-tab from your game to a webpage to find out what to do next. Also since they are freebies, there's really no incentive for the writer to keep them updated. After all, he does need a regular job to pay the bills.
Purchased Guides in PDF Form
You can find a helpful WoW guide that is in an ebook type of format. These are usually pdfs. You can buy and download them, and they are typically very detailed. But you still have the problem that you either have to print them out and constantly shuffle through pages as you play, or alt-tab to them.
Purchased In-Game Guides
Most of the guides you find today, specifically leveling guides, have advanced far enough that they are now in-game addons. These are the best WoW guides because there is no switching back and forth. The addon produces a pane right in the game like WoW players are used to seeing. The interactive window give you instant tips that cut down the time it takes you to level up dramatically by guiding you through multiple quests in the same area. It even puts a big arrow on your screen to tell you which direction to go and how far. And when you finish a particular quest, the it automatically detects this and gives you information on the next quest.

Fishing Skill Level Change in Patch 3.1
How WoW has Changed how your Fishing Success is Calculated
It used to be that your fishing skill level affected your fishing profession in two ways:
1. You couldn't fish in a fishing spot that was higher than your skill level.
2. If you were allowed to cast in a spot, you would sometimes get the message 'Your fish got away!'
But that changed with patch 3.1.
Now anyplace in WoW can be fished by any player, regardless of skill level. And you will always be successful in catching something. Well, that is unless you click too late on the bobber, in which case you'll see the message 'No fish are hooked.'
So if something is always hooked, is your skill level in fishing irrelevant?
No. Your skill level will determine how much 'junk' you catch vs. fish or other useful items, in conjunction with the fishing location's 'no-junk' level.
There is now a no-junk level associated with each fishing spot. How often you catch junk depends on your skill level and the level of the fishing spot.
Here's the formula to determine how often you'll catch junk:
(your skill level/fishing area no-junk skill level) ^2 ) * 100
Note ^2 means to the power of 2.
So if your fishing skill level is 100, and the fishing location's no-junk level is 300
(100/300)^2) * 100
(.33 x .33) * 100
= 11%
So 11% of the time you'll catch something worthwhile and 89% of the time you'll catch junk.
