What is a world of warcraft macro?

Most actions your character in World of warcraft can do , can also be activated by a command in the chat bar.
For instance typing /sit in the chat bar will make your char sit down.
If you're a warlock , targetting an enemy player and typing /cast Shadow Bolt will produce a shadowbolt flying towards that player.
All commands you can enter in the chat bar can be used to create a macro.
A macro is basically a series of commands that you can assign to a button
on your toolbar and execute them by clicking that button.
Macros can save you space on your actionbar by binding multiple actions to one button.
This is done by using a modifier key..
Warlock example: /cast [mod:shift,target=focus] Fear; Fear;
You can use @ instead of target =
Assign this macro to a button on your action bar , clicking that button will fear your target,
holding shift while clicking the macro button will fear your focus target.

How do you create a macro in world of warcraft?

• type /macro this will open the macro pane.


• Choose either general or character specific.


• Select New macro and Choose a name and icon for your macro.


• The ? icon automatically assigns an icon that corresponds to the first ability or spell in the macro.


• Left-click the icon you just made.


• Type the macro commands in the "Enter Macro Commands" window.


• Drag the icon to an empty slot on your action bar.


• Exit the macro window .

Example:
#showtooltip Heavy Embersilk Bandage
/use [target=player] Heavy Embersilk Bandage

Drag the ? icon to your actionbar.
Exit the create macros window.
This macro will bandage yourself with Heavy Frostweave Bandage ( if equipped) without the need to target yourself.

Basic World of warcraft macro commands

• /use 13 : activates trinket 1


• /use 14: activates trinket 2


• /use : uses an item or consumable


• /cast: casts a spell


• /castsequence: casts spells in a determined order


• #showtooltip: Shows the tooltip of the ability you are using.


• /petattack: Tells your pet to attack


• /petfollow : Tells your pet to follow you


• /petstay:Tells your pet to stay


• /equip: equips an item

wow macro conditionals

Example : /cast [help] Renew
When this macro is being executed , first the [help] condition is tested ( can the target receive a beneficial effect?) if true Renew is cast.

Other conditionals:

• [harm]: If you can cast harmfull spells on the target


• [dead]: If Target is dead


• [mod:shift] , [mod:ctrl] , [mod:alt] When you hold the given key


• [combat]: if you are In combat

By default hese conditionals are evaluated against your target.
If you want the conditional to be evaluated against your focus
then use [@focus]

Make sure everything typed inside the macro you create is spelled correct or the macro won't work.
