And early theosophical writer

William Quan Judge is a well respected early theosophical author who, unlike others, did not make a name for himself outside the movement. He worked himself up from poverty to become a lawyer, in his 'outside' life. Inside the TS he was the young partner and long ignored. But towards the end of Blavatsky's life, Judge was one of the most trusted in her circle. He brought life to the American section of the Theosophical Society and wrote many inspiring articles, stories and books.

Unfortunately a quarrel arose between him and Besant and Olcott- leading him to allow the Theosophical Society to be split up.

The Ocean of Theosophy

William Quan Judge

Perhaps the most important work by W.Q. Judge: his introduction into theosophy. It's been in print ever since it was written and has inspired many to dive further into theosophical literature.

Echoes of the Orient: The Writings of William Quan Judge - Volume I

Volume one of a collection of his writings. A new edition appeared in 2009. The revision corrected scads of typos, even some dropped lines and missing passages. There is a new general bibliography in addition to the Judge bibliography and an expanded index. Also many quotes were sourced, thanks to the internet, and are now cited.

These articles are certainly well worth reading for any serious student of theosophy.

Containing Judge's Occult Tales and articles from his magazine 'The Path' on subjects like reincarnation, occult powers and how to get them, cycles, healing, risks of astral vision, hypnotism and its dangers, spiritualism, how to recognize a good spiritual teacher and the path of spiritual self-realization.

Conversations On Occultism

A theosophical classic once again: these conversations were perhaps with H.P. Blavatsky. Whatever their source they're fascinating and really add to an understanding of the esoteric side of theosophy.

The Dweller Of The Threshold

This was a theme to 19th century occultism and Judge explains it well from the perspective of theosophical occult theory.

Karma: The Moral Law of Compensation

The Theosophical Society will be remembered in the history of thought as the main source of the popularization of the doctrines of karma and reincarnation in the West. Judge played his part in that by writing about it a lot. This is only one of his pieces on the subject.

Letters that have helped me

Hard to believe - this theosophical classic is not well represented at Amazon. I show here volume 2 - because it IS in print.

More of 'Letters that have helped me'

I'm getting tired of repeating it, but these too are theosophical classics. These letters go into the depth of theosophy as a spiritual path.

Occult Tales

This is perhaps where W.Q. Judge was most original: in his occult stories. These stories, told in Blavatsky's tradition, share occult insight while being at the same time just great literature.

Great lens!
I only read his translation and essays on the Bhagavad Gita - which I found to be very inspirational.
So, good to read some more about him!

The Judge Case - A Conspiracy Which Ruined the Theosophical Cause
The Judge Case is an episode in theosophical history that has had enormous implications for the theosophical movement. It was the final straw in splitting up the Theosophical Society. In trying to understand the Judge-case various strands have to be pulled together. First and foremost of those is obviously a knowledge of the history of the Theosophical Society, its founders and the life of W.Q. Judge. In order for the case to be finally laid to rest, the issue needs an impartial handling in which testimony from both sides is taken into consideration.
