Wrap Rage threatens to destroy Christmas!!!
The real menace of the upcoming holiday season is something you may have never heard of - wrap rage.
Wait a minute, you might say. I like wrapping. I like taking my rage out by ripping festive paper featuring Santa and snowflakes into little shreds. But what happens once you create your colorful confetti?
Hopefully, you're now holding the object of your heart's desire, the perfect gift, something you've longed for and had dreamed would be waiting for you under the tree this year.
Unfortunately, it's quite likely that standing between you and your precious gift is some kind of packaging. Just a box if you're lucky.
But few of us are lucky.
If your perfect gift is an electronic device, you're likely looking at some plastic clamshell packaging. A toy or kitchen appliance might be kept from you by plastic ties, four layers of cardboard and tiny plastic bags with warnings that they aren't the toy.
You'll now waste hours of your precious holiday rapidly losing your holiday cheer as you try to open the dang thing to get to your gift. Damage to you, your sense of good humor and your gift are likely in the aftermath.
So how to avoid becoming a victim of such a travesty this holiday season? Just in time for Christmas, you can opt for frustration-free packaging over at Amazon!! Hooray!! Christmas is saved!!
Just what is Wrap Rage??
Wrap rage (or wrapping rage or package rage) is the common name for heightened levels of anger, frustration and violence resulting from the inability to open hard-to-remove plastic packaging.http://www.ergoweb.com/news/detail.cfm?id=1006 Wrap Rage? Ergonomics Could Make That Package Easier To Open - ergoweb.com
Have you been a victim of wrap rage?
You aren't the only one frustrated by packaging!
- Wrap Rage? Ergonomics Could Make That Package Easier To Open
- If you've ever felt frustrated after trying to get a new CD out of its plastic wrapper or a child's toy free of its hard plastic display shell, you may be suffering from what the British call "wrap rage" - the annoyance and frustration felt due to hard-to-open packaging. But, says a recent article reported by Newhouse News Service, it's a "condition" that could readily be remedied with help from ergonomics.
- Packaging Hell - Time to Rise Up!
- THANK YOU to maverick Mark Cuban and C|Net's Blogma for ranting about a topic I've also been on the warpath over for years- product packaging that makes the customer the enemy. We've all experienced it- tough plastic-molded around the product we just bought, the knives, the scissors, the bloody incisions on our fingers. One brand name these are known under in the business is "Thermoform". Thermal molded plastics. I call it "The Polycoffin".
- 10 Ways to Please Us, the Customers
- DEAR electronics makers,
You must be getting pretty excited about the holiday season. No wonder. That's when we, your customers, hand you a huge chunk of your annual income - about $17 billion of our cash.
But what will you give us in return? Yes, of course, the finest gadgets technically possible for the amount we're willing to pay. But what else will you give us? Do you really want to earn our love and loyalty? Do you want us to be back next year? - Seagate Leaves me bloody%u2026
- I love seagate products, but what genius designed the packaging for their 6gb Pocket Hard Drive ? THe drive came packaged in one of those impregnable plastic shells (see picture in link above) that makes it look pretty on retail shelves but impossible to open once you buy it.
What is the logic behind making a product impossible to open once you buy it ???????
Tools you might need to get current retail packaging open
So just what is Amazon up to?
Frustration-free packaging part of Amazon's Green initiative

The new packaging is less than exciting with the traditional Amazon look.
So, what do you think?
There's already been some debate about Amazon's new packaging. (Raging of a different kind. :-) Some don't like that you can't see the toy on the outside of the box; some are willing to give up anything just to make it easier to get the toy out of the box.
What's more important - the look or the ease of opening?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byDon't care what it looks like as long as I can get it open!!

I like the ease of opening. Why do they make it so difficult to open kid's toys? Are people really shoplifting these so easily that they need to encase them in hermetically sealed plastic and fasten them to the cardboard with 25 black twist ties?
As a parent who has to open a lot of toys I say keep the packaging simple. And don't forget to simply recycle that wonderful cardboard box it comes in.
