Ever tried your hand at being a ghost for someone else? I don't mean trying some kind of unearthly activity here - what I'm referring to is an activity in which you can be published over and over again and be paid for every time, without your name appearing anywhere as a result.

There is a huge demand for ghostwriters online, and you might actually be surprised at the amount of work that is available. You can be ghostwriting an e-book one day, a huge batch of articles the next, and finishing the week with some press releases and short reports too.

Being a ghostwriter means staying in the background and watching someone else take all the credit for something you have written. Some writers like to be recognised all the time for their work, and if you are one of those you might not be cut out for a career as a ghostwriter.

But if it is a steady stream of work you want, and you don't have any preference for seeing your name in print or on various websites, then you should start looking for ghostwriting jobs right now. Having your own website to point potential clients towards can be a big help, but there is no reason why you cannot grab plenty of ghostwriting gigs for yourself by bidding for work on the various online writing job sites which are available. Once you have some experience and completed jobs under your belt, you can start building a website that you can point people to.

But how much money can you make as a ghostwriter? Is it equal to a nice part time income, or is there enough cash out there to make a well paid full time ghostwriting job a nice reality?

Let me speak from experience here. I am a full time ghostwriter and copywriter now, and I earn far more than I used to in my old job. I can certainly testify to the fact that there are plenty of online ghostwriting gigs out there which can pull in valuable work for you - you just have to start looking, start bidding on jobs and keep going until you build up regular streams of reliable work.

So if you think ghostwriting for other clients' sounds like your cup of tea, perhaps it's time you got started.
