Print Writer Discovers Treasures Online

After years writing books, articles and research, I have found the amazing online world. At times it still feels like an Alice in Wonderland experience. Things that are not suppose to work, work. Ideas that are insane for print writers are profit centers for internet writers. And best of all, ideas get shared faster so the work is really current. Even this lens takes adjustment in thinking. So just for fun, you will see a photo of my print books from the "good old days". Stay tuned for my new ebooks: Practical Motivation; What to Say After He's Gone;  Power of 15.

What Reality TV Shows Can Teach Writers

Face it, reality tv shows are popular. Whether you like watching cast aways eat worms on Survivor, food fights on Top Chef or friendly competitors on Design Star, the public can't get enough of so called "reality" events. And that does not even count the questionable reality of Charm School and other trash talking tv.
What does this say to a writer? It says "get real" and do it real fast if you want to sell those precious words. Even if you don't have crazed characters acting out in front of you, turn to the voices in your head. Come on, writers, you know you hear the scenes played out on your personal brain video. Instead of writing about something, explain your ideas as if they happened to someone.
Make it personal. Even if the character for your illustration is a combination of several people, give him or her a name. So what it you aren't writing fiction, neither is a newspaper reporter but that news story has quotes. Let your character tell some of the key points. And remember to old adage, show more than tell.
And of course, keep it real (or at least really interesting).

got motivation?

Get some here!

Sure, writers love to write. Actually we are compelled to write. We see or hear an interesting idea and we simply have to write about it. That's the good days. Then there are the assignments on topics about which we have minimal interest yet an oncoming deadline.

Writing takes motivation. Practical Motivation fires up writers, sales people, health care workers, teachers, service professionals, anyone who needs more than a paycheck as a reason to work.

If you could use a quick motivation fix, I invite you to download a free copy of my ebook, Practical Motivation - Power Up Your Life. Go to my web site,
www.howtobeslimforlife.com and register your name and email on the home page. Confirm your email and Practical Motivation is on the way to you. Enjoy!

Electronic STD

Online Socializing

I admit it. When my daughters started using myspace, I labeled it an "electronic STD". If you consider the idea of viral marketing, my title was right on target. What I have learned since then is that this new social scene is here to stay for all ages.

A frightening view of the future presented decades ago warned that "Big Brother is watching you". Thanks to the internet, we are literally all our brothers (and sisters) electronic keepers. We are watching each other. And we are telling our secrets.

What happened to writing deepest thoughts and dreams in a diary with a tiny useless key then stuffing it under the mattress where your Mother always knew she could find it? Thanks to social sites, all that information and more than anyone cares to know is slapped up in cyperspace. To paraphrase Pogo, "we have seen Big Brother and it is us."

So here I go into wandering into Squidoo. And yes, I have a myspace site, my girls made it for me. They have 4,789 friends, I have 4. But mine are real, so I think that counts double points.
If you are reading this, I hope you are real too.
