How to Write a Great Personal History
The better way to get it done
There is a better way to get your personal history written.
Instead of writing your personal history as most folks do, starting with earlier childhood and moving forward, try writing your personal history by topic instead of by year or stage of your life.
Write about your religion, political views, favorite television shows, and favorite books. Write about people who have influenced you.

Save each topic you write about as a separate document.
To organize the documents you create as a part of your personal history, name the files: "Personal History by - ".
Make sure to type the date somewhere in your history (at the very top or very bottom and include inside the document that it was written by you.
You'll find as you write your history by topic, you'll be able to take your personal history project in bite-sized pieces--completing on small section at a time.
Your writings will also be much more interesting. You and your family will be much more interested in reading what you've created if the content addresses relevant topics than if you merely create a time line of events.
