Hacking your own router software
I forget why, but I installed OpenWrt software on router for the first time in 2006. (I think I'm just a geek and wanted to try it.) I loved it. I can perform maintenance on a router remotely with SSH and add just about any feature that I can imagine!
While I'm very happy with OpenWrt's White Russian release, I like to watch the different distribution grow and mature. This a place for me to centralize what is out there for the WRT54G.

Tomato is fast and easy to install
I decided to install Tomato to see what it did. It was an easy and fast install. The web interface is great. It has everything I need to do and it looks nice. I'm not even sure that I need the ssh access.
While I'm not ready to replace my openwrt router at my office, I can definitely see using Tomato at some locations.
