WWE's Cool Characters - Gimmick Wrestlers

Each week professional wrestling presents us with an entertaining sports product full of various characters ranging from sexy WWE Divas to interesting WWE superstars. The wrestlers appear on TV shows such as WWE Raw, ECW on SyFy, Superstars on WGN America or Smackdown on MyNetwork TV. And don't forget the Pay-Per-Views like Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, Summerslam and Wrestlemania.

In wrestling, "gimmick" refers to the unique personality or traits that a wrestling character has. It could include their costume, appearance, mask, face paint, choice of items they bring to the ring or overall persona. Their gimmick might be used to cheat in matches. For example, Repo Man used to steal other wrestler's items from ringside to distract them, or use his rope and hook on them. The gimmick can also simply be used as a way to showcase themselves. Most gimmicks have fallen by the wayside in today's WWE, with the exception of stars like The Undertaker, Kane, Goldust and The Boogeyman.

Through the years of WWF-WWE there's been a ton of memorable and not so memorable WWE superstars and wrestlers. They've included crazy costumes or gimmicks, weapons, and ring entrances. Here you'll find some of the best/worst gimmick WWE Superstars of WWF/WWE History..Check out the links below for more info on these gimmick wrestlers as well!

Top WWE Gimmick Wrestlers

This is a list of some of the all time best (and worst) WWF/WWE Gimmick wrestlers of all-time! They include the bizarre Papa Shango, a Voodoo priest who feuded with Ultimate Warrior and Undertaker. Max Moon, a visitor from another place who had a jetpack and light show on his costume. The disgusting Bastion Booger, an overweight wrestler with a knack for pigging out and picking his nose. Doink the Clown, who was always joking around at ringside and using various tactics to distract or outsmart other wrestlers. And one of the newest gimmick wrestlers, The Boogeyman, a very bizarre character who wrestled on Smackdown and ECW. Boogeyman was known for making an entrance by smashing a clock over his head, and eating live worms in the ring or feeding them to opponents!

First WWE Raw & Max Moon

WWE Raw debuts 1/11/93

The first ever episode of WWE Raw was held on January 11, 1993 and featured several gimmick wrestlers in action. In one match, a sumo wrestler known as Yokozuna defeated Koko B. Ware aka "The Bird Man". Yokozuna wore red sumo trunks to the ring and would throw sand over him just like in a sumo match. His manager was Mr. Fuji. Koko B. Ware would bring his bird Frankie to ringside to cheer him on, and would flap his arms up and down like a bird to get the crowd hyped up.

In another Raw match, the Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels defeated Max Moon, a wrestler apparently visiting from another planet. Max Moon wore a special powder blue bodysuit with lit up electric circuitry all on front, complete with a jetpack and wrist devices that shot out fireworks into the air. With rings all around his outfit, he looked like a man from the future. Moon was played by wrestler Konnan originally, but as of 1992 it was taken over by Paul Diamond. So Paul Diamond was wearing the costume on the 1993 Raw. Max Moon's only PPV appearance came at the 1993 Royal Rumble, where he was eliminated in under 2 minutes time.

More Recent WWE Gimmick Wrestlers

Some of the other noteworthy gimmicks in WWE that came recently include the Leprechaun Hornswoggle, who is a small wrestler yet has picked up plenty of victories in the ring. There was also a gimmick involving Edge, Christian and Gangrel as they came to the ring as a trio of vampires, complete with fake vampire teeth. At one time, wrestler Mable joined the Undertaker's dark side to become a demonic wrestler known as Viscera, complete with scary eyes. He went on to become a more romantic wrestler and then returned to his roots as Big Daddy V on the ECW program. Currently, Undertaker and Kane, considered brothers in the WWE are two of the longest running gimmicks, although they are considered talented in the ring. Undertaker and Kane are considered wrestlers with dark, demonic sides, complete with special ring entrances.
