X-Force are a fictional superhero team featured in several Marvel Comics series. X-Force is essentially an X-Men spinoff series. X-Force was formed in The New Mutants #100 in April 1991 and shortly after received its on self-titled ongoing series. X-Force were created by writer/illustrator Rob Liefeld. The team is usually regarded as more aggressive and militant than the mainstream X-Men teams. The latest incarnation of X-Force is led by Wolverine.
A brief history of X-Force
The first incarnation of X-Force was led by the mutant Cable. Like much of Liefeld's work, the first X-Force series was heavy on over drawn characters, with ridiculously over sized muscles and outrageously large weaponry. After support for the X-Force title waned, Marvel eventually cancelled X-Force in 2001, re-launching X-Force soon after with an all new cast. This new X-Force shared very little in common the original series, and was subsequently renamed X-Statix. Following the cancellation of X-Statix, Marvel reformed the original X-Force for a six issue mini-series in 2004.
Following the events of the X-Men Messiah Complex event, a new X-Force title was launched in February 2008, written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost with art by Clayton Crain. This latest version of X-Force is led by Wolverine and can be seen as a militaristic black ops faction of the X-Men.
