My Personal Opinion On Which New Generation Console Is The Best.

Some of you may be thinking that I'm obviously going to say that the Xbox 360 is the greatest gaming console in the world, if not the greatest thing in existence. Whilst I do admit that the 360 is a great piece of equipment and I've had many hours of enjoyment on it I have grown a little bit weary of it recently. Although the majority of games are excellent, it's reasonably priced nowadays and it's one very sexy piece of kit I have still been put off. Technical problems such as overheating and the "Red Ring Of Death", as well as Toshiba's dropping of the HD-DVD standard have weakened the 360 substantially (although the latter is hardly Microsoft's fault)

Nintendo have had remarkable success with their revolutionary Wii console and even though many disagree with its slightly silly name it's much harder to disagree with the console itself. Yes the graphics may not be as good as those of the 360 or the PS3 but who cares? The Wii is just so much fun to play with friends or family. In my honest opinion the Wii is the best console for those who enjoy playing games with others, but does not stack up with the other consoles if you're going to be playing alone most of the time. This is mainly due to the "novelty" nature of the Wii and its games such as Wii sports. Still, the controller for the Wii is easily one of the coolest things ever invented and is one of the console's biggest drawcards.

Finally we come to the PS3 (Playstation 3) Sony's newest offering. First impressions are that the console is the sleekest looking and also has the best graphical and sound capabilities. Another big bonus is the inclusion of the "Blu-Ray" disc player now that the rival "HD-DVD" format has been dropped. However, the PS3 is the most expensive of the lot but quite a substantial margin and I personally believe that it has a less impressive collection of games than the 360.

So overall, which console is best? Well, it really depends on what you want to be doing! If you're keen on playing more casual games with friends, and you don't mind doing a bit of exercise in the process then the Ninentdo Wii is for you. If you're a more dedicated gamer then the choice is between the 360 and the PS3. Although the 360's graphics are inferior and it is a less reliable console, I feel that it has a wider selection of games and is more reasonably priced. However, if you are looking for a total media center solution then the PS3 is a better choice as it has Blu-Ray support and sound.

So what is my final decision? To tell the truth, I don't really have one! I'm still contented playing my Xbox 360 but you may have a different opinion. The only way to truly decide is to play them all and choose whichever one you like the best.

    I've had my Xbox 360 for almost a year and I have been experiencing freezing issues as well as overheating. I have read that this may be a precursor to the red rings but I want to know of a way to cool it down without actually taking it apart. Is the warranty for the red rings 3 years now, or has that been changed? It would suck to have to send it in right before the holidays. Thanks.

    Frank - this could mean one of two things.

    1) You are experiencing the red ring of death, but the light ring on the front of the console has stopped working.

    2) Some other error has occurred with the hardware in your Xbox 360, take it to the retailer where you bought it and see what they say.
