There are quite a lot of games for this Xbox console, the more popular being: Call of Duty 4, Quake 4, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, The Darkness, Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War, Saint's Row, and more. Don't worry about having to leave your old, original Xbox games behind, Microsoft has the answer with "backwards compatibility". A downloadable update provides you with an emulator that allows your 360 to play a large number of original games.

The Xbox 360 is still one of the most popular selling consoles currently on the market. It has a huge selection of games, online capability, ability to play HD DVD's and much more!

However...it also has a couple of HUGE flaws that have probably scared a lot of people away from purchasing it. I am writing this article to inform you of the possibly problems you may encounter if you are thinking about purchasing a Xbox 360.

First off, Microsoft decided to skimp on the Xbox 360's internal cooling. The systems all work fine for a couple of months maybe even a year or two. You may be playing Halo 3 someday and the console will just freeze. You will probably just restart it and it may fire right up, you or might be presented with dreaded three red flashing lights.

If you see three flashing red lights, you have a couple of choices.

Send it off to Microsoft to have them repair it. Depending on if you are in warranty or not this may cost you $140. You will also be without your console for 4-6 weeks.

The second option is to fix it yourself. It is a very simple repair that can be done in under a hour.

The second most common problem is DVD drive failure. There is no known reason as to why this happens. Microsoft uses 4 different DVD drives in their consoles. None of these fail more common than the others.

Unfortunately, there is no fix for this problem. You either have to send the console in to Microsoft for repair or you could possibly buy a replacement drive on eBay and replace it yourself.

There is a rumor going around that if you keep your console horizontally, you are less likely to experience the DVD drive failure. There is no confirmation of this, however it doesn't hurt to do it anyways.

The Xbox 360 core video game console is coming from by Microsoft, developed in association with IBM, ATI, and SiS as a successor to the Xbox, was launched as a competitor to Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems. Unveiled officially on MTV on May 12, 2005, it is the first console to provide a near-simultaneous launch across the three major regions and to provide wireless controller support at launch. The Xbox 360 core console was a big hit in the market by recording a shipping of13.4 million units worldwide within just three months of its launching. The Xbox 360 Core was an entry level Xbox 360 priced at US$279.99. The "Core" is now replaced by the Xbox 360 Arcade. It was not available in Japan in the beginning, but was later released on November 2, 2006.

The current generation of console wars would have to be one of the most interesting in wars the history of the industry. Gone are the days of the original Playstation dominating the industry with 80 million consoles sold and gone are the days of the 1 vs 1 nature of the 16 bit era. There are three major players in this generation and perhaps most interestingly, the power house corporations throwing hundreds of millions into advertising are behind.

The PS3 is in serious trouble a year into it's life. While many argue it is the most impressive of the three when you take into account it's amazing power, it still finds itself 10 million consoles behind the Wii worldwide, while still trailing the xbox 360 by about 7 million units. Even though Sony boasts that the PS3 is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market, sales have indicated that the average consumer wasn't willing to pay the huge asking price upon release and elected to purchase the pure gaming machines in the Wii and 360 instead. Magazines such as PC World and GamesRadar have both slammed the machine for being "late, expensive and imcomplete" and the biggest game related PR disaster respectively.

The Xbox 360 was the first to launch late 2006. Many would argue the xbox 360 is the furthest behind when you take into account the fact that it launched a year before the other two consoles... and if you compare PS3 sales to the sales of the 360 at the same age, this is true. The question becomes can the PS3 sustain it and catch the 360? The Xbox 360 has accumulated a loyal fan base and for this reason developers are producing games for both the 360 and PS3 that would have been an exclusive for the PS2 in the previous generation. This alone, in the end could be a killer blow for the PS3.

The Wii was without a doubt the underdog before it's release. Not many would have predicted the huge success the Wii would be when you looked at the two gaming giants it was up against: Microsoft and Sony. However, a year into it's release, the Wii find's itself way ahead of the pack, taping into the apparent unbelievable potential of the casual gamer. The Wii's appeal is it's ability to get people who have never touched a video game in their life to have a go. This has seen housewives, and even grandparents purchase a Wii for their very own... and may be the reason why the Wii has sold 50% more consoles than the PS3 in the same period of time.

The new generation has also seen the creation of many online download sites out there. This is becoming more of a reality as technology gets better due to the super fast internet connections most have today. Some are legal and decent services, but others can just be in it to take your money. Some enterprising people can do this by trying to make the Xbox 360 capable of playing backup copies of games. A new and original Xbox 360 does not allow gamers to play backup discs or copies. The game console would only play original and expensive game discs.
