Xbox Problems

When my Xbox gave me the dreaded "red ring of death", I knew I was in trouble. Being a Xbox addict I wanted to fix it quick. There are lots of sites that promise you a fix. I found a really cool site that breaks down all the ebooks and reviews them.

Possible Causes Of My Xbox Problems

After doing some research, I found that most people experience the "red ring of death" due to overheating. This can be caused by a number of things including:

1. Faulty motherboard component
2. Poor quality thermal paste on the heatsink
3. Bad power brick (oversupplying power to your system)
4. Manufacturing/application issue (solder joints, loose bga, etc.)
5. System airflow issue (ie you have your system set up where it can't get enough air to vent)

The last one is pretty preventable if you take a few precautions such as:

1. Never place your Xbox on the carpet (get it up on a stand or table)

2. Never place your Xbox in a closed cabinet when playing (open the doors and let out the heat)

3. Never stack your Xbox directly on top of other equipment (use shelving to separate each component in your system)

Basically your Xbox 360 wants you to keep it cool!

How Do I Fix My Xbox Problems?

If you have read this far, I bet you are having Xbox problems yourself. Has that "red ring of death" stopped your game of Halo 3 cold? Let me ask you this, have you searched the net for a quick fix?

I bet you have run across some questionable "techniques" to fix your xbox. The one I like best is the "towel trick". I saw a video on Youtube where the guy wrapped 3 towels around his xbox and left it on and wrapped up for 20 min. Then it magically was fixed. I don't think the "red ring of death" is from the xbox being too cold. Not to mention that you could cause your console to overheat.

I'd stay away from this "fix"

Microsoft will take your unit back and replace it, but that will cost you $140.00 and thats even if you have the warranty. Not to mention the 6-8 weeks of downtime and the risk you take mailing the unit (lost or damaged parcel).

If your like me you searched the net and found a ton of authors who wrote reports on how to fix the "red ring of death". I sure did, but I wasn't sure which one, if any was worth the money. Then I found this cool site here that reviewed the top 4 selling reports. It was nice to compare them all. I went with the 4th one and got my console up and running pretty fast. The videos were really helpful and easy to understand.

Xbox Problems

The Xbox 360 video game console is subject to a number of technical problems that can render it unusable. Many of the issues can be identified by a series of red lights flashing on the face of the console; the three flashing red lights (nicknamed the "Red Ring of Death") being the most infamous. There are other issues that arise with the console, such as discs becoming scratched in the drive and "bricking" of consoles due to dashboard updates. Since its release on November 22, 2005, many articles have appeared in the media portraying the Xbox 360's relatively high failure rates.A Tale of 11 Broken Xbox 360s There has been legal action taken attempting to hold Microsoft responsible for the failure rate among the Xbox 360 and provide reasonable compensation for those affected.
