2009 has started and there is still lots of gamers complaining about the red ring of death error appearing on the xbox 360 consoles. This xbox fault is also known as the red ring of fire and is displayed by three red lights around the power button, Microsoft say it happens in about a third of all xbox systems, and troubleshooting the xbox fault is not straightforward. Some people blame this error on many things but the main reason is the system is just overheating and freezing up. You could solve the problem in the short term by trying to get the console cooled down ASAP by making sure there is plenty of room around the console or sitting it beside an open window. This is no long term solution to a very frustrating problem.

The recommended best long term fix to this Red Ring Of Death fault is to have the system repaird and updated. The main solution involves trying to get a better airflow threw the consoles airvents allowing the main motherboards heatsinks to cool down proporly. Somme of the following tips have been known to resolve the problem.- I know it sounds simple but just turn the console off and on again, a software reboot may get it going again
- Make sure your xbox has loads of room around it and is well ventilated, don't forget about the power transformer this needs to be kept from overheating as well.
- Try turning of the console and removing all the connected leads and power cords, when reconnecting them back make sure they are well seated in the sockets.
- If you are using a power extension cord or surge protector, try the console in the mains outlet on its own to see if this is the problem.
- Don't place any other electrical devices on top or beside your Xbox, we don't need any other heat around the console. Some people do stack their consoles on top of one another or even put a TV set on top of the Xbox

- I found at fixya.com, they have a good guide for troubleshooting this problem using an eraser. I did't see it here, but I must say it worked very well for me.

The ring of death is a big shame on microsoft, there should have been a call back to fix all consoles & a HUGE lawsuit against them. Guess there won't be a lawsuit till a xbox / iphone will blow up in some kids face...
