Hate Radio Commercials Try Satellite Radio with Something for Everyone
Do you get as aggravated with your regular radio as I do? There are two satellite radio companies, Sirius Radio and XM Satellite Radio, that are changing the way we listen to radio. With top-drawer on-air talent, tons of new music, news channels, and new services. So if you're tired of AM and FM radio's unrelenting blitz of commercials and pitifully lame music programming, check out satellite radio.
XM maintains two satellites nicknamed Rock and Roll, while Sirius has three satellites hovering over the United States. Sirius's original programming originates from its studios in New York, XM Radio's studios are based in Washington, D.C.
Ok, So you may be wondering why you should pay monthly for satellite radio when you can get AM/FM it for Free. Well let me give you a small list, my top 5 reasons to get Satellite radio.
1. NO COMMERCIALS ON MUSIC STATIONS - This alone would be a good reason. Your regular radio station rely on advertising to pay the bills. Satellite radio is subscription based and uses that money for a large portion of their income. there's plenty of opportunity to sample mainstream and far-flung musical tastes. There are dedicated channels for rock, pop, rap, hip-hop, show tunes, opera, classical, country and western, jazz, electronica/dance, folk music, blues, latin, world music--it's all there!
2. No Static or Fading stations - Don't you hate when you are listening to something and it suddenly gets that load static sound. How about when a station gets better or worse reception as you get closer or further from the radio? That drives me nuts! Satellite radio doesn't have that at all. The worst thing that will happen, and it is VERY rare, is if you do not have a signal you will get no sound at all. Otherwise the sound is crystal clear ALL THE TIME.
3. Artist/title readout - Whatever you are listening too is right there on the readout. No more waiting for a DJ to tell you what was just played. If you want to know it;s right in front of you. Now if you like a song you can find out who the artist is right then and there. Much easier then the wait and hope game you play with regular radio.
4. Uncensored radio - Radio seems to be getting more and more censored then ever while TV runs wild. Satellite radio offers uncensored content he way it was meant to be heard. Why do you think guys like Howard Stern moved to Satellite. They also have Comedy and Hip Hop channe;s that are uncensored as well as many others.
5. Internet (satellite) radio - You can hear all your favorite music right from your computer now as well. Both companies offer a free trial of some sort and the choices are again great. This service is just a great compliment to the already top notch radio you will be getting.
My Favorite Satellite service is Sirius
- SIRIUS Satellite Radio
- This link is for Sirius Radio. One big draw would be if you are a Howard Stern fan. This is the ONLY place to hear Howard uncensored. That is not there whole deal though. They have a great selection of music, sports and anything else you can think of.

No fees means more then likely commercials, a huge reason people go with satellite radio.
Next, you have to buy a special receiver. You ave to for satellite radio too so thats not so bad, if you are getting something special.
Another strike for hd, I checked for local staions in my area. You get 5 more stations, all of which you can get on your regular radio.
On the plus side the stations are all digitally broadcast for better sound. This is a big + over regular roadcast radio but until they add more stations as well as something different then what I can find on AM/FM then I dont see the point in spending the money.
Satellite Radio, to me , is still superior. A subscription is well worth the end of commercials as well as knowing there are stations made specifically for my taste. If I hate every radio station in my local area making it digitally enhanced does not help. HD needs more stations and specifically NEW stations if they wat to compete. For now, I would save your moeny on the HD receiver unless you have to have the latest gadget or you have a station you love that is actually broadcasting on HD.
For now, I will stick with satellite radio
