Of course, there was a time when Basil had four legs. Usually the little tabby would be out and about when I came home from work, but it would not be long before he would come charging in through the pet door. After all, when the human that works the can opener arrives home it is a good idea to get in and remind him to use it. If that scallywag cat was indoors when I arrived home he would rub himself against my leg a few times, and then find himself a perch to jump up on to observe me. So it was not difficult to know that something was wrong when I entered my flat that late summer evening. I could hear Basil crying out from the living room so I knew he was in and if he was in, why had he not run to greet me?
