Tiger Woods has "successfully" undergone reconstructive surgery on his left knee to repair a torn ligament, and his Utah-based doctors say it's "highly unlikely" there will be any long-term effects.

It was the second time in 10 weeks Woods had surgery on his knee, this time on his anterior cruciate ligament.

"We were confident going into this surgery, and I am pleased with the results," Dr. Thomas D. Rosenberg said in a statement released by IMG, Woods' management company.

"There were no surprises during the procedure, and as we have said, with the proper rehabilitation and training, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career."

Like a fine wine, Tiger Woods continues to get better with age cementing his World Ranking as the top player in golf with every tournament he enters.

However, after a disappointing (for him) runner-up finish at the 2008 Masters, Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee back in April by Dr. Rosenberg and had been on the sidelines rehabbing until teeing up for the first round of the U.S. Open Championship on June 12th.

Despite the surgery, Woods turned in one of his most memorable performances ever in winning the 2008 U.S. Open Championship at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California after battling Rocco Mediate for 19 holes in a Monday playoff.

In any event, Woods has won 18 of his past 33 worldwide starts dating to his win at the 2006 British Open, a run that compares favorably with the best stretch of his career.

The world's No. 1 player announced following his latest surgery that he would miss the rest of the season, which includes two more major championships and the Ryder Cup.
