Squidoo : Lenses by AndyDad

Hi - I'm Andy and I live in New Zealand. I love film and its history. I studied both at University as part of my American Studies degree and still watch as many films as time and budget (and the two recent additions to our family) will allow. I particularly like making top 10 lists, so watch this space for more my top 10 film and music lists. Have a groovy day.

Top 10 Cartoon Birds in Film and Television

From early in the development of the film industry, animation has been one of the most popular versions of the art form. When cinema really took off in the 1920s, theatre owners were hungry for product to show their huge and growing audiences, and several animation studios were founded to produce innovative, quality entertainment for this audience. Several of these studios became household names; Warner Bros., Walt Disney, Terrytoons, and MGM, to name just a few, and the animated characters they introduced to the film going public quickly became enormously popular. Many of these early characters have endured to this day as household names, their likenesses adorning all manner of consumer products as well as their own cartoons, feature films, and television series. Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Woody Woodpecker, Yosemite Sam, Speedy Gonzales, and many more beloved characters are as popular now as when they first appeared - some even more so.

Top 10 Best Noses in Film and Television (and song)

There are many characters in film and television history that are notable for their noses. Most of them are remembered fondly and much loved, but there are still a few that we think of with a shudder - the ones whose pointed noses pierce our nightmares and disturb our daydreams.
The ones that have made it into my Top 10 list are not memorable just for their noses - they are all iconic characters or actors in their own right who just happen to have a scnozz that is exceptional either for the way it looks, the way it is treated, or for what it can do. I should also point out that - with one justifiable exception - I have chosen not to include any of the considerable number of actors who really do have prominent real noses of their own. I think this would be disrespectful and not in keeping with the spirit of this list. (Check out the list to see why I have made an exception and who it is).
I hope you enjoy my countdown. Sniff out the You Tube clips and smell the links to Amazon if you wish to purchase any of these films or television series, and don't forget to leave me some feedback (if you think my lens stinks, I'll take it as a compliment!) I have included a voting form below and would especially like to hear of any great noses I have failed to pick.

Top 10 Scary Scenes in Non-Horror Movies

So, this Halloween you've decided to give the usual monster, ghost and slasher films a rest, and watch a nice western, or a classic gangster film instead? Maybe an adapted literary classic, or how about a British kitchen sink drama? Why not an all singing, all dancing musical? How scary can they be? In this, my first lens, I have made a top 10 list of some movie scenes that have scared me throughout my film watching career. It is interesting to note that the scenes I found frightening as a child have lost none of their scare power several decades later - they still give me the creeps.
This is a personal top 10 list - it is not meant to be definitive, so I would love to hear your feedback and suggestions for scenes I have not included. (Remember this is for non-horror films - they are scary by definition or they are just not doing their job!) I hope you will enjoy the countdown and the You Tube clips.
