Coming from a Norwegian-American family, I've always been fascinated by Norse Mythology. Nearly everything I've learned I had to read or watch in movies because my family is pretty far removed our Norwegian roots.

Have you too noticed that going green is a rich man's game? Going green can be very costly because it is in vogue. Big companies have always wanted to make big money off the latest fad. But, this lens is dedicated to simple and realistic ideas about going green. Maybe it will even educate people about some of the negative side effects of the latest fads.

Right now I have one big store at CafePress with the subjects that I love like ... travel, photography, digital art and more.
Why do I call my store Andromeda's Delights? Because I also write futuristic romance and wanted to include the stars. I also have a much smaller Zazzle Gallery. I post about them both at my Blog. You can find me online at MySpace (seldomly) and my Web site.

Spanish Disney Video Showcase

I believe music is a wonderful way to keep foreign languages from going rusty. I studied Spanish a little longer than Norwegian (this series of video showcases started with the Norwegian Disney Video Showcase). Even though I live in an area with a large population of Spanish speakers, and even though I work with a woman that speaks Spanish around me constantly, it is music that I can focus on and keep the brain cells for losing their connections.

This lens will have some information, but mostly it is a shopping lens to point the way to some lovely painted ponies and carousel art for collectors to decorate their home.

The Old West of my favorite topics of research. I had a contracted story set in the late 1800's that won't make it publication anytime soon because of bankruptcy issues. A lot of what you'll find on this lens are books and Web sites I've found useful. Cowboy Lingo is one of my favorite. Not just because I wanted to research cowboy lingo, but because it was a hoot and a half to read. Cowboys are sure colorful characters.

Christmas on Cafepress

I might might as well gear up shopping on-line for Christmas 2008. I do most of my shopping on-line these days. And when it comes to holiday shopping I do all of it. Not kidding. Last winter the one day (yes, the one day) I went to the mall to pick up my sister-in-law (I didn't even go in because I really don't like combat shopping) the closest parking spots were over a mile away and people were all but mowing each other over with their SUVs to get them.CafePress beats the mall for another reason. Prices. Even shop owners that set the highest prices are often cheaper than the local mall. And there are discount coupons readily available. I'm not just a new shop owner. I'm a satisfied customer. There is no issue finding something unique for everyone on my list, and what I find is good quality.

Politically Correct Christmas

I was wandering around online in November 2007 and noted that Santas warned 'ho ho ho' offensive to women in Sydney, Australia. I was amused. But, then again, perhaps I should be thankful that higher-ups in Australia worry about the self esteem of "hos" in the United States. This is the season of brotherly love.

One of my favorite video shorts on YouTube is a great example of the fun ways that Cafepress artists are using YouTube to advertise their shops. The Guinea Pig Way has had about 350,000 views. I suspect that means the artist has been seeing a boost in sales at their Cafepress shop (see the module for The Guinea Pig Way on Cafepress below). I started this lens because I'm interested in learning more about making videos in general. To be honest, my own button movie is more akin to public practice than advertisement! The button to the left is Woven Amythest.

Fantastic Futuristic Romance

I am fond of saying that my favorite genre in romantic fiction is futuristic and science fiction romance and it is true (except when I'm caught up reading a great romance in another genre).

These are books from my bookshelf that I've enjoyed. I'll list a few of my favorite authors and books.

NOTE: I have this lense an "R-rated" rating not because the language and images on this page, but because some of my favorite novels are rather ... shall we say ... spicy.

This image by the way is of the Orlon Nebula and is available thanks to the Hubble telescope. This and other images can be found on the NASA Hubble program's Web site.

Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler is among my favorite writing books. It's a really easy to follow guide to plotting and character development. He adapted his book/ideas from the works of Joseph Campbell.

..."A hero ventures forth from the world of the common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man..." -Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces

Living Cheap (Or Should I Say Thrifty)

I use coupons irregularly.

I buy the "expensive" gas and seldom worry about what gas station I buy it at.

I'll buy a $12 bottle of lotion.

People who see me standing at the pump of a Chevron think I'm wasteful, yet those who really know me call me cheap. I think that is because it takes a thrify person to understand that being thrify doesn't always mean buying the cheapest product available. Living frugally means buying the best items, or getting the most bang for your buck.

What do fried twinkies and bucking bulls have in common? Bull riders. The book Fried Twinkies, Buckle Bunnies, and Bull Riders isn't just a source of the "ultimate" recipe for fried twinkies, in this book the author Josh Peter looks at the sport of professional bull riding. (On www.friedtwinkies.com there is also an on-going blog about the life surrounding the sport.) I work with a woman that considers herself an animal rights activists, and we see eye to eye on nearly ever subject we discuss when it comes to animals. Except one. She hates rodeo. I love the rodeo. When she tried to convince me that rodeo is cruel, I told her that if I was going to feel sorry for any creature involved in rodeo, it would be the bull rider. She didn't really appreciate that humor. So, I didn't invite her to the rodeo when it came into town.

One of the most amazing things about living in Nevada is driving past a band of mustangs each morning on the way to work. If the traffic is light, I can look over and watch them living out their life ... probably trying to ignore I80 on the otherside of the Truckee River.

One of the saddest things about living in Nevada is driving by the pens where they keep the mustangs after they've been rounded up. There can't be a life more dull than being penned up in a dusty, barren field after roaming through sage country.

This year the Department of Agriculture announced plans to start monitoring the wild horses of the Virginia Range, which would include reducing the herd's size if warrented.

This lens will point the way to efforts to protect the wild horses of Nevada (and the United States) from being destroyed.

The Future of Reading

I'm an eBook reader, and have had stories published electronically. Over the last few years I've watched more and more information delivered via the Internet. Though I enjoy holding a book in my hands, it seems the future of reading won't involve nearly as much paper as the past has. I'm interested in the Kindle for a few reasons such as...

The ability to read eBooks (HTML anyway) published elsewhere as personal files.

Free access to wikipedia from anywhere. I'd probably use it every day. I use Google everyday, mostly to find an entry in wikipedia.

This lens showcases some of the fantastic finds I've found on CafePress wandering around working on my own shop. I've been a member for years, but I just recently opted for the pro shop. Not really in time to have all that many of my own Halloween products this year. The "Raven Lunatic" image comes from InfoHazard and will be in the first module.

Norwegian Disney Video Showcase

A few years back I took a conversational Norwegian class at the University of Alaska. Not being around Norwegian speaking people, it is very difficult to keep up with the words and phrases that I learned. But then one day I was looking for a song I am familiar on YouTube and discovered the huge amoung of Norwegian (and other languages) versions of the famous Disney songs that I love so much.
