How to grow house plants in water

Did you know that you don’t have to grow your houseplants in dirt? Essentially the dirt is just the medium holding the plant up and allowing the roots to pull nutrients through moisture. You can throw out the dirt, and insects and disease along with it! Many houseplants grow very nicely in a water solution, and that is hydroculture for the home. A bamboo stick in a pot of pebbles filled with water is hydroculture that everybody has seen. This lens will tell you how to apply this technique to all kinds of plants. It’s simple. It’s clean. And it works! This lens explains hydroculture, helps you get started, and provides valuable resources. New Hydroculture Search Engine! Ratings (stars above) and Guestbook blurbs help, so please take a minute to sign into Squidoo. It will magnify your view of things!

MS Office 2007 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks Resources

Microsoft Office 2007 is quite a departure from prior versions of MS Office! Not only is there a new look to the toolbar and menu structure, navigation, operation and file structures are new. New isn’t bad, but new can be quite unsettling for the average user. I had to deal with a new install of MS Office 2007 for a single user in a small office where all other's are using earlier versions of Office and particularly MS Word. The traditional Tools menu and Options box are fragmented and dispersed. 2007 Word wants to save documents in XML rather than the traditional doc format. Office 2007 can coexist with earlier versions, but not without some impact on users; it is a better fit in an office where it is the prevailing or only Office suite. This sent me on a search for answers, workarounds, quick fixes and tutorials to speed up my learning curve and get some quick answers before the new user and existing users started getting frustrated. This led me to some very useful material and some very good and very quick solutions. This lens is meant to be a resource reference for those who have to deal with MS Office 2007 and it’s unique design.

Recommendations for your PC

This lens looks at computer systems needs and at solutions that stand out from the others. I recommend these solutions based on successful experience. Success depends on individual needs and circumstances, which often vary, and upon the application (installation) of the solution. Use these recommendations as a starting point. Do your own investigation to make sure your final choice fits your particular needs. Any deals and support issues are between you and the vendor you finally choose. This lens also details some of the considerations in solving some of the computer issues we all face. I only recommend products where I’ve had personal experience. If you have a different experience or a product you think I should test please let me know. There are two easy ways to do this: 1) Send me an Email via “Contact the lensmaster” link if you have a longer comment. 2) Enter a blurb in the Guestbook if you want to say hi.

With over 10% of the Internet browser market, Firefox has moved from being a fly on the wall of the average user to a fox in the corner. I use both browsers daily, but most of my client’s office desktops have IE portals. Firefox appeals to users for lots of reasons. Security was the main argument given for switching from IE to the fox, but usability and control have to rank high these days. Functionality cries out for tips, control cries out for tweaks, and all users want tricks. So check out this compendium of tips, tricks and tweaks for Firefox.

Medical Information, best web sites

The World Wide Web is a terrific resource for medical information for the layperson. Some say there is too much medical information! There is enough material to scare you, to confuse you and to frustrate you. This lens gives you some great starting points for helpful and reliable medical information. The sites are loosely grouped: general information, specific medical conditions, and hospital sites. If you don't see a site you like, try the special health search engines that are age group focused. This lens and these sites can not give you specific medical advice. Rather, they can give you background information and help you to form better questions for your health car providers. These sites were culled by personal experience and by listening to other sources that have reviewed and rated medical sites. It is far from complete. In fact you can suggest additional reference resources from your own experience. Feel free to rate your favorite sites (click the up arrow), recommend other sites and post comments on this lens and its subject of great medical web sites.

Mystery Books

When Millie McBride’s mom loaned this neighbor boy a copy of a Sugar Creek Gang mystery she set me on the lifelong reader path. She loaned me one book after another in the series until I had devoured all she had. So that series was my first favorite. Along the way there have been so many new favorites like Ellery Queen, then Fredric Brown, and on to the pulps. As years rolled on I discovered some thankfully prolific authors like John D. MacDonald, and Lawrence Block, and. . . the list of favorites grew over time. One of the joys of being a reader is the discovery of a new author. This lens is about some mystery authors I’ve discovered along the way that you may not have read. To get you started I’m recommending a book or two. I hope you’ll make a discovery here. You don’t really need a special occasion to make the gift of reading. I’m so thankful to Millie’s mom! So many books, so little time. . .
