Acrylic Painting Techniques

Do you like art or making art? Do you like to paint or want to learn how? Do you like easy clean up and environmentally friendly? If so, then my intent that is that this lens can help you in some way. I started painting when my daughter was young and I definitely wanted easy clean up, and safe products. That's why I chose acrylics; there are lots of brands that use all non-toxic materials, and they use soap and water for easy clean up. I actually use diluted laundry detergent. It's a great way to use up what is left in the bottle. I also like using water color pencils, by themselves, and also to outline letters, sketch with, etc, before painting in with the acrylics. They are also predominantly safe and cleanup is easy with just water.

Owning gerbils

Gerbils are fun, cute, and furry. They have little odor, are easy to take care of, and require little space. Our local pet store only sells male gerbils, to avoid accidental breeding. Both of our gerbils are boys. It's been reported that male gerbils get along better than female gerbils when you have a group, as female gerbils have a tendency to want to be in charge. Gerbils are perfect pets for people with busy schedules, however, it is always good to take time to play. Gerbils only need to be fed once a day. Water is given to them from a water bottle which you fill as needed.

Literacy and Phonetics

Although many words cannot be decoded using phonics alone, most words can. So knowing some common rules for letter sounds and common letter combinations is a big plus in decoding new words, which is a big plus in emerging reading. Most letters only represent one sound. Some letters represent two sounds. The letter X represents four sounds. Sometimes a letter is actually silent, or changes the sound it represents when it's combined with certain letters. I'll be sharing some tips for both the literacy tutor and for literacy students. May you find something helpful and useful. God bless.

I had once gone to a meeting where they were having an impromptu discussion about the seven wonders of the world and why you should visit a particular one. I remember thinking that the Eiffel Tower should be included. Although built in recognition of the 1889 World's Fair in Paris France, it has become an icon throughout the world.

bamboo towels

I went shopping with my husband and he came across some bamboo towels. Wow, we thought, bamboo in towels. They felt soft and were absorbant too; we decided to buy some. We tried them out and loved them so much, we went back for more. Bamboo is a tree like grass and is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. With some varieties growing 100 feet in a single growing season, they make a great renewable resource. Bamboo fibers are strong and durable. Used in clothing (I also love my bamboo pajamas.) to hardwood floors, and in many Asian food dishes, bamboo is also a versatile resource.

One of the ways I taught my daughter to read, was to write down her own words; I took dictation. It's a fun way to make reading books; using family photos and such, and writing down our children's words. I started this when my daughter first started talking, and continued it through her early years of writing herself. She is 17 now, and still enjoys reading those early dictations.

I am painting a portrait

I've painted some portaits before, and they did turn out pretty good. And now I've decided to go further, portraits that are better and also that come more naturally. My first portraits were a lot of try this and try that, and paint over that. Well that is what was. So now I am working through a book on Painting People in Acrylic. I'll be sharing my progress and results from the exercises as go. My intention is that if you're here to learn something about portrait painting yourself, that you find something helpful and useful in your own painting process, either through something I've said or from the books that have helped me; or if you're here looking for a portrait painter, that you will like what you see, and know that someday soon I too will be painting beautiful portraits for people, and perhaps you too. Enjoy.

The thing about having an ice cream party is that you don't need a reason to have a party other than the ice cream and to get together with some friends.

When my daughter was in elementary school, the school held an ice cream social at the end of each school year. They had vanilla ice cream and all the parents brought a topping or soda. It was always so good.

Tshirts To Color Party

So you'd like something for the kids to do, that's special, that they can take home with them, and be proud of.

A Tshirts to Color/Paint in Party is a wonderful solution.

The kids get to use their artisitic talents. The basic inspiration is already there, with an outline art design ready to be painted/colored in. The kids get to use their imagination for how they color/paint it in, and they can add to the basic design. And they get to take them home!

Kids love to create. So let their creative juices roll; this is no time for having to stay inside the lines. They could be adding fur on the cat, stars around the space shuttle, a starfish by the fish, etc.

So, let their creative painting fun begin with a Tshirts to Color Party.

Canvas Bags

Canvas bags are a way to cut down on using plastic bags. By using canvas bags, our oceans can be cleaner and make the waters more habitable for ocean life.

For us as consumers, canvas bags can make shopping easier. Canvas bags are sturdier than plastic bags, so unless the canvas bag has gotten really old, you don't have to worry about that impromptu tear on the way to the car.

Plastics however won't be gone completely, which is a good thing. I'm saying that for all the plastic makers our there; I'd like to see you still have jobs. I was watching the travel channel one evening, and a chef at an eco-friendly resort was serving food in plastic bowls. The travel channel host inquired about the plastic bowls. The chef explained that they were environmentally friendly and once added to a compost pile, they would decompose in approximately six months. So a big thumbs up for biodegradable plastic.

Pampered Pet Placemats

I like pet placemats because they mark a designated area for my cat's feeding bowls. I recently read that to help make your indoor cats' life more interesting, that it's a good idea to put treats in different locations for your cat to find. I tried this with my cat, and she just sat by her food area wondering what I was doing. So I decided, lets stick to what already works. And plus I don't have to clean up cat licks elsewhere!

Another reason that I like pet placemats is that I can easily lift the edge and wipe off the crumbs onto a plate or towel with a damp paper towel. Also when I mop the kitchen floor, I don't mop the placemat. I like the idea that the pet food serving place is just cleaned up with a plain water dampened paper towel.

Books that changed my life.

One day I had a thought. I had just said a prayer out loud, and then I thought, "How does God know the difference from what I just said to all the other things I had previously said?" So began my awareness and the path of reading books that helped to change my life. I say helped, because it is each individual that does the changing, and that I believe begins with their desire. I'll be sharing with you some of those books, as I remember them, and why. And I'll also be sharing with you books that have have also changed other peoples lives as well. Set back, enjoy, have a great read, and even enjoy a new book or two, and perhaps change your own life, if you choose to. :)

Yoga is a stretch for the body that also stretches the mind.

Yoga movements, a series of postures that are usually held or done very slow, are coordinated with the breath. For example, as you inhale you slowly raise your arms, on the exhale you slowly lower your arms.

Yoga helps to focus the mind and the body. Yoga is practiced to attain physical, mental, and also reported by some, spiritual well-being.

So I decided to do it myself!

I found it thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. However, Seuss Enterprises has retired the listening to of those songs from its site. So for now, it's your own imagination. Read a little bit of Suess. Listen to a little of Dylan. Imagine Dylan singing Suess.

Walking For Fun

Walking is something most everyone can do, and it can be indoors or out. So rain or shine, get out those walking shoes! : )

I had purchased the book, Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone; it came with a DVD in the back. I had seen DVD's on walking before, but had always passed them up. But when I popped in the Walk Away the Pounds DVD, I was pleasantly surprised; It was fun, it got my heart rate up, and I used various muscles groups that I wouldn't have ordinarilly used from walking outside. I then realized that indoor Walking Can Be Fun!

I like outdoor walking too. It can be a special treat when the birds are singing, seeing a friendly smile, butterflies are flying, and when the sun is in the sky.

Affirmational Proverbs

I had went to the book store to purchase a specific book, but it wasn't there. So I decided to browse. A particular book had caught my attention. It was about obtaining wealth through the application of Proverbs. It sounded very interesting and was planning to buy it. But something inside said no, that I needed to have my own interpretation and not anothers.

So I went home, got out a bible, and started reading Proverbs. Some of it was making sense, but I longed for something that was gentler; I was and am an avid user of affirmations. I prayed that there has to be a better way. Then I went and got the children's bible that we have, and that did say things in a gentler manner.

I also wanted something I could use everyday and have it work for me. So began my first draft, taking the best feeling statements and rephrasing the others. After that was done, I went back and rewrote each Proverb as an affirmation. And that is how Affirmational Proverbs came about.

Waves to go over, downpours to dodge, lazy rivers to float upon, basketball games like no other - there is water involved, and so much more.

I'll share with you some of the experiences that we've had with water parks, and perhaps that will help you decide if a waterpark is the vacation spot for you.

For experienced waterpark goers, there'll be a list where you can add favorite waterpark(s) that you've been to. Thank you.

In 1952 Lester Levenson was 43 years old and was told by his doctors that he could drop dead any minute. Lester was sent home to die and was told not to go up any stairs unless he absolutely had to.

Lester started talking to himself, asking himself, being the smart educated man that he was; how he got to where he was. He started finding his own answers and lived for another forty-two years.

Cheryl Paton: The Coolest Creative Artist Ever

Welcome to my Coolest Creative Artist Ever lens.

I've always enjoyed art, the making of it mostly. It was one of my favorite activities as a child. I had an older cousin that worked in some kind of craft place and she would bring home many colorful feathers and beeds, and this and that. It was like a treasure chest and I couldn't wait to see what was new.

In elementary school, my class was asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. My first thought was an artist. And then I thought I better pick something more reasonable. So I said a teacher.

Well when I grew up, I started working for the government. I did eventually become a literacy tutor. And then after my daughter came into our lives, I finally gave myself permission to be an artist. She and I were out shopping and saw a yardsale. In the yard was a two sided easel. My heart sang. While my daughter could draw on one side, I could paint on the other!

We have been sleeping on an air mattress for over ten years now. By far, it is the best consistent mattress that we have slept on. We have one with dual controls, so each side is easily filled to individual choice. It offers consistent overall support and comfort. The only con to our dual control air mattress was the foam pad between the two sides. I have trimmed it down pretty far and there is no longer a ridge between the two sides. You may also have different results, depending on the size of the people. When we originally bought the air bed, we got one without the deeper pillow top. The one we had tried at the store had felt pretty comfortable. After using an air mattress without a pillow top, we decided to add one; we bought a separate memory foam pillow top and placed it under the fitted sheet, which was a big plus for comfort.
