Squidoo : Lenses by Irenemaria

I am a Swedish lady. Many of my lenses are about Sweden, Swedish places and Swedish stuff. My age is around 23 on the inside and a little more on the outside=)
My interests are all kinds of music. My lenses are a mix of it all. I even made a musiclensography!=)
I regularly study the Bible and I love to paint!
I have a Squidoo group about SWEDEN

There is one thing I regret. I should have kept track of all the Squid Angel blessings I have got! They are many over the months. ...

Norrköping, Sweden

This is a lens about my city. I was born here and now I live here. Norrköping is located in the county Östergötland to the east in Sweden by the Baltic Sea. Read more about Sweden here: irenemariassweden 1384 King Albrekt af Mecklenburg Announced Norrköping to be called a city. But because of fires in the city Hall, we cannot say for sure how much earlier the city was there....but it was! Since then, Norrköping has been destroyed several times by enemies. First by the Danes 1657 and later by the Russians 1719. Norrköping has also been destroyed by big fires. One was 1655 and devestating. After 1719 the city was rebuilt, founded the oldest existing newspaper NT and regained the place of being the second city in Sweden until the end of 1800, when Gothenburg had expanded. Today many cities are larger. Today you can see how the old buildings are together with more modern ones. The street "Drottninggatan" runs through the city from the beautiful Central station where you find accommodation in a Sweden hostel, to the Museum of Art. You can easily go thorough Norrköping on trams. The photo here is of number 2, passing close to where I live! Welcome! The harbour in Norrköping can recieve deep going ships. It is very well located with railways and logistics to the rest of Sweden. 120 vessels came into the harbour 2005. Norrköping is this year in the highest league of football (socker) in Sweden. Every time they have a match the trams have little flags with the teams symbol! So finally now - Norrköping won the match!! Just outside Norrköping is a really nice Zoo. they have so much going on. You can drive by car and watch wild animals, see the Dophins jumping and watch the tigers being fed!! Norrköping also have an airport! Just get here!

Knäckebröd - easy bread recipe for Swedish crisp bread

Wonderful high fiber crackers!
In all the schools in Sweden this bread is always served together with the food. Some people like to break it into small pieces and eat it with milk and lingonberry jam in a bowl. I love to eat this bread with spread shrimp-cheese on! I always have Knäckebröd at home. I do not bake this bread since the ones in the store are so good and they have many kinds. Still I will post some recipes for you to try. I have made Knäckebröd myself and know that it is easy. In these recipes they tell you to use milk. But I always used water.
Do you wonder why there is a hole in the middle of the round cakes? It is because in old days the bread was hanging on a pole above the stove to keep it dry. I tried it for real and it works so good.
So when it comes to factory made knäckebröd - Wasa is the world's largest producer of crispbread. Every year the company sells around 60,000 tons of crispbread in 40 countries. Swedish people eat more crispbread than any other people in the world, almost 4 kilograms per capita. Here is the link to Wasa in English Wasa bread I recommend that you watch the Wasa story - a video in English In the IKEA food stores - there is knäckebröd to buy.

How to make meatballs

Meatballs is a staple food in many cultures. To many it is the ultimate comfort food. Italian meatballs, Swedish meatballs, Indian meatballs- the list goes on.

In Sweden köttbullar (meatballs) are made with ground beef or a mix of ground beef and pork, mixed with breadcrumbs soaked in milk and finely chopped onions. They are seasoned with white pepper or allspice and salt. Some put a spoonfull of sugar in to get that typical "Swedish" twist to them ;)

Swedish meatballs are traditionally served with gravy, boiled potatoes, lingonberry jam, and sometimes fresh pickled cucumber. In Sweden we never boil them in the sauce. We have the gravy on the side.

Swedish meatballs are served at the cafeteria at most IKEA locations around the world.

We love our bastu - sauna

This lens is going to be about the old fashion Bastu - Sauna. In Swedish we call it BASTU The one you heat up with fire. The one that often was built as a little hut of its own - often near a lake or shore.

In one 700 years old law, it was just as sacred as a church. You were now allowed to disturb the peace in and around a sauna. You were not allowed to bring arms there. The sauna was a very important house for a day to day life back then and still is. Our family had really large sauna towels!

I will post some links about how to build a sauna like this. I will show you pictures of old fashion saunas. Scroll down for photos.
These days it can be difficult to use a stove for logs. Some of us does not have wood easliy. So it is quite common to buy an electric stove instead. They come in different sizes but always use the stones on top!

If you are looking for one of these ultra red saunas - you have to look else where! This lens is about steam shower enclosure

Brain Tumor Glioblastoma Multiforme

To me there is no other expression more scary than "There is a brain tumor"! So - what is the treatment for brain cancer? Some can get well and some die. What are the different types of brain tumors? This lens is about GMB.

The doctor used the word "astrocytoma". He said Glioblastoma multiforme grade IV, brain tumor. I did not understand anything at that time. I did not know what to do, where to go or what to expect of the future.

The absolutely worst thing was that I was alone. My Darling husband - who had the brain tumor - did not understand much! He could not take in information or add up the words the onchologist said. But I could! I still remember the fear of suddenly being forced to take all the descicions and be in charge of the situation.

Descicions about surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, advanced treatments, managing side effects. Where do you find reference that is as fast, convenient, and portable - everything you need to know, from the federal sources you trust. Since navigating the Internet to find medical information can be confusing and you are so hysterical about doing the right thing! I went online to find out what other had said. Stories and facts in a dreadful mix. The stress and fear and press was almost more than I could bear.

The reason I do this lens is, that I really wish I had this information earlier, more detailed and presented with facts imediatelly. I did not know anything at all and I was in a foreign country with foreign language too. I am going to tell the story so if anybody is in this situation - you can benefit from my experiance!

The ship Vanadis and the keg

Somebody asked me what I would bring if I could take only one thing from my home. The subject is personal so I thought about it for a long time. I wanted to think that my life is the most important thing but then - I will always have it with me so it has to be an item.

Looking around I saw books, photos and old things my mom and dad had. There it was. I am going to bring my old wooden Keg! The tiny barrel is over 150 years old. From the beginning it was a snaps kag. It was given to the Boatswain each time he sailed away on the beautiful ship, the steam Frigate Vanadis. It was filled with snaps then.

This Boatswains name was Magnus and he was my grandfather. His work on Vanadis was up in the tallest mast - the main mast!

Sami - Sápmi a people in the north

Original people of the north. A story worth telling.
The Laplanders are Scandinavia's aboriginal people. They were nomads who wandered freely over all of Scandinavia with their reindeer herds. They brought their own culture, traditions and language.
Today they live in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.
The estimated number of Sami is 50,000-75,000. Of these 15,000-20,000 live in Sweden, 30,000-50,000 in Norway, 4,000-5,000 in Finland and about 2,000 in Russia. During the last few decades there has been a significant emigration of Sami from the traditional Sami areas, which means that many Sami today live outside this area. About 20% of the Sami in Sweden live outside the districts of Norrbotten, Västerbotten and Jämtland.

How to write a thank you note

If you think about yourself. Do you prefer a very nice but printed card over a note with a personal feeling expressed. You might say - I dont care, it is the card that matters.
Well - others would say - a personal handwritten card is more precious.

I say to you, it depends on who you write it to. Some would love to have a beautiful card with a personal touch added inside. Again sombody you are close to could be more happy over a all-to-gether handwritten little note.

Personally I have recieved e-cards that have warmed my heart so much! My friend took the time to remember me with a card - that is precious in itself

Injera - Ethiopian national dish

They look like pancakes but dont call them that. I did and heard that it is so wrong. This is the number one staple food in Ethiopia and it is more like bread made from fermented batter.

Ingera is made from a cereal grain that is unique known as Tef. Though t'efs is unique to Ethiopia it is diverse in color and habitat. Tef is a member of the grass genus Eragrostis or lovegrass. T'ef will grow in many areas it is not an easy crop to farm. One problem in particular is that the weight of the grain bends the stem to the ground.

Tef is nutritional miracle food. It contains two to three times the iron of wheat or barley. The calcium, potassium and other essential minerals are also many times what would be found in an equal amount of other grains. Tef has 14% protein, 3% fat and 81% complex carbohydrate.

Tef is the only grain to have symbiotic yeast. Like grapes, the yeast is on the grain so no yeast is added in the preparation of ingera.

Tef is milled to flour and made into batter. the batter is allowed to sit so the yeast can become active. When the batter is ready it is poured on a large flat oven and allowed to cook. This process is much harder than it sounds and it is recommended buying from an Ethiopian Market or Restaurant in your area. Make sure it is Tef Ingera not a substitute Western grains.

When I wanted to show 10 movies, I found many more. Sweden has so many really good movies and some of them have reached international fame.

Of course Ingmar Bergman (lens photo) is known to all, but there is also Lasse Hallström, Colin Nutley and of course - our own detective Wallander, based of the books of Henning Mankell.

So I will maybe show a little more than ten movies. Some movie directors have boxes with more movied in. I recommend these because I know they are good.

As long as humans have existed, there has been a debate about how women act and react. To us women it is no mystery - only to the men. The secret is: we are different. We think different and have much more emotions than a man. Generally this is. Of course there are exceptions.

If the couple in the story here had read the book from Amazon, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, they would probably have understood eachother much better. Many of the mistakes are made because of a lack of communication! To have respect for eachother and communicate is two of the most important things for a succesful relationship.

If you can laugh at these women jokes - good! If you cannot I am sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to. I find these pictures funny and I can laugh at myself - still! I think that this is power to the woman. We KNOW we are best hehe

To skate on the sea ice a sunny day is the ultimate feeling of freedom. The skates are moving so fast and the wind in your face is fresh. The speed can, in the tailwind and good ice, reach 30 km per hour! This lens will tell you about the beauty of sea ice skating, but also about the dangers. There are some rules and they are not suggestions - they are a must.

Raclette - all cooking around the table

This word "Raclette" is from original the name of a cheese from Switzerland. Some say it began to be eaten around year 1200. The farmers cooked potato and then melted slices of the cheese by the campfire. They ate this with pickles and the warm newly boiled potatoes.

Raclette cheeses are typically round weighing about 15 lbs The cheeses are all cow's milk have in common a creamy consistency which easily melts but does not get too runny. The semi-firm cheese is normally aged about 3 or 4 months. In Switzerland these cheeses are called different names according to the village the are produced in. Ex. Gomser, Chonches, Bagnes or Orsieres.

I have always loved to watch butterflies. They start to come out from their winter resting places when the sun is warm and lure them out.

In Sweden there are 2 700 species in the group butterflies. I have picked just a few I like. The ones we call "butterflies" are flying in the day time. The other group are moths and they are sometimes so fantastic to see if you take time to study them. One way to catch moths is to place a sheet on the wall/ground and have a halogen lamp shining on it. They will come - I promise.

I would really love to have a personal comment as well. Just write about your own experiances please! In the list of content you can click directly to the one you want to see.

How to use dill

When I moved away from Sweden, there was one specific flavour I longed for: The taste of fresh dill.

That taste is so special and cannot be replaced. And it has to be FRESH dill. Not the dried or frozen stuff. I have had my own dill for decades now. And cannot be without it.

You can use the stems of dill - for instance in soups and boiling potatoes.
You can use the green leaves of dill for flavour, for decoration and for spice.
You can use the seeds of dill in pickles and in boiling some dishes. I have posted recipes and cook books here. Go ahead and give it a try!

Fruit in art

Fruit as art can be carved, photographed or painted. To paint a fruit is something that takes a lot of practice. The fruit can otherwise look flat or dry. There are skilled artists who can cut fruit into beautiful shapes. That is art you have to eat after you took the photo =)

If you examine the paintings you can see how the grapes look juicy and the apples fresh. The secret is to find the right colours and hilight the bright side. Sometimes hilight it a lot! When you look at the YouTube painting of a Pomegranade it is so clear that the light comes from the right but the fruit has its darker side there too! The artist did not fall into the trap to make the fruit brighter there.

Sometimes the artist choose to arrange fruits, bowls, flowers on a table with or without a cloth. That is called "Still life" or Stilleben. The most difficult thing I experianced is to paint a silver knife. I still have so much to learn. This is why I look at and enjoy the artists that are - ARTISTS! I have a long way to go.

The lensphoto shows a happy Maria
I really started to live when I was 52 years old. Up until then, there were many tears and many hard times. When I was 52 I met the love of my life. The man whom I married and we lived a life I did not think possible. Laughter, travels, fun, music and lots of Love. I will tell you more about these happy days but first a little about my background. I was born in Sweden in Norrkoping. Since my parents never really wanted me, they were going to give me to a home for children. A married couple in my fathers family heard about me and decided to take me to their home until things were sorted out for my parents. You know - they never did. I stayed with my loving foster parents. I married a Swedish man, had 3 children and I guess life was rather normal. Since he never really treated me well, I developed Dysthymic Disorder. Much later in life I learned about this and I will share my experience with you here. I will also tell you what happened to my Darling husband later - The one I married when I was older. This lens is the first time I can tell the story in detail. I think you can say it is a kind of therapy for me. I know for sure, that I will never be the same again.....

The Roma - The Gypsy

The Romani (also Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Gypsies; Romani: Rromane) are an ethnic group with origins in South Asia. The Romani are widely dispersed with their largest concentrated populations in Europe, but also in the Americas and, to a lesser extent, in Northern Africa and Asia.

They originate from India. But by mistake some thought they came from Egypt. So they were called Gypsies. That is a name the Roma people do not want to be called by. The emigration from India likely took place in the context of the raids by Mahmud of Ghazni and these soldiers were defeated, they were moved west with their families into the Byzantine Empire. The 11th century terminus post quem is due to the Romani language showing unambiguous features of the Modern Indo-Aryan languages, precluding an emigration during the Middle Indic period.

So here I will call them Roma. Rom (plural Roma) is a noun which means married man or husband. Romani (or Romany) can be an adjective or a noun. All Romanies use the word Romani as an adjective. For this reason, the term began to be used as a noun for the entire ethnic group.

There is no official or reliable count of the Romani populations worldwide. Many Romanies refuse to register their ethnic identity in official censuses for fear of discrimination. There are an estimated 4 million Romani people in Europe and Asia Minor (as of 2002). Although some high estimates by Romani organizations give numbers as high as 14 million.
Significant Romani populations are found in the Balkan peninsula, in some Central European states, in Spain, France, Russia, and Ukraine. Several more million Romanies may live out of Europe, in particular in the Middle East and in the Americas.

Sissel is a fantastic singer from Norway. She sings softly and skilled. All you can do now is listen and smile. Posted here are both CD and MP3 for one-by-one download.

We love Sissel in Sweden and are looking forward to hear more of her. On October 1, 2002 Sissel released her first album in the USA, which sold over 100,000 copies in its first three months of release with almost no advertisement or marketing. The album sold better than Decca record execs expected. Their initial goal was to sell 100,000 copies in the first 9 months. Her USA album, self-titled Sissel, is largely a re-recording of songs from her Norwegian album, All Good Things with a couple of more songs added - Shenandoah is one

There are litterary millions of nice flower art. I have picked the ones I like and would buy for myself or my friends.

I will display oil paintings, acryl paintings, water colours and poster prints. Also will I show some other Flower-art that I really like. I hope you enjoy picking flowers with me in my lens-garden here.

Here are also lessons how to paint flowers. Some of us would really like to try. Oil and Acryl are similar but the oil dries slower. Water colour takes another tecnique. You paint from in and out so to say.

For years I now and then have felt heart palpitations like sudden pounding, fluttering or racing sensation in the chest. A lack of energy or feeling over-tired. Often dizziness or just Feeling light-headed. Chest discomfort - Pain, pressure or discomfort in the chest. Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing during normal activities and even at rest.

Then suddenly last summer it all got worse. I went to the hospital ER and was admitted at once. My pulse was 180 and the blood pressure was hitting the ceiling. I was so terribly high. I had to stay in the hospital when I first started taking medications so my heart rhythm and response to the medication could be carefully monitored. After 24 hours I got worse again and the next day it was better. It seems like they found the right medication for me.

After a week, I could go home and had started the treatment of Warfarin and medication to lower the blood preassure. I had a warning from the Doctor that my condition increased risk of stroke. They told me that many people have this condition and it is serious.

Sweden - a Scandinavian country in northern Europe

Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden or Sverige, is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It has borders with Norway (west and north) and Finland (northeast), and is connected to Denmark (south) by the Oresund Bridge. It has been a member of the European Union since January 1, 1995. Its capital city is Stockholm.

At 449,964 km² (173,720 square miles), Sweden is the third largest country by area in Western Europe (after France and Spain) and fifth in all of Europe. Sweden has a low population density of 20 people per square kilometre, except in its metropolitan areas; 84% of the population lives in urban areas, which comprise only 1.3% of the country's total land area and are much more dense than the countryside at about 1,300 people per square kilometre (3,400 per square mile). Most Swedes speak Swedish as their mother tongue. In Sweden live about 9 114 000 people.

The modern name Sweden is derived through back-formation from Old English Sweoðeod, which meant "people of the Swedes" (Old Norse Svíþjóð, Latin Suetidi). This word is derived from Sweon/Sweonas (Old Norse Sviar, Latin Suiones). The Swedish name Sverige literally means "Realm of the Swedes", excluding the Geats in Götaland.

You can still have your own little indoor garden! All you need is to choose some plants you like. I suggest that you mix both colourful and green ones. In the kitchen you can have plants with spices for cooking. Some oregano, basil and why not onions? There is also the nourishment in lentil-sprouts! all in your little kitchen herb-garden. If you have no window - an ordinary lamp would be ok. If you can have the special lamp that is for plants - even better of course.

Plus size women need plus size clothing

When you are tall and need XXX sizes of clothes it is sometimes hard and even depressing. There is another really irritating detail. Many shops do have the clothes. Both pants, dresses and lingerie's. BUT when it comes to the shoes, they are all too small. What do they think about? If you sell a dress to a xxx size woman, she MUST have larger feet than a smaller girl! Many times when I need winter shoes or sandals, I shop at the men's area. There they start with my size. To buy shoes on a sale is out of the question.

BiB is Hennes and Mauritz name for large sizes. Big is Beautiful they say. I have shopped many nice items in their corner for us Plus size women. Usually it is very hard to find something modern and nicely fitting for a big girl. I have a catalog where I can buy really nice clothes and shoes. But the prize is very high.

A period in my life, when the children were small, I made a lot of my own clothes. I could sew a little bit and with determination and through reading the helpful patterns, I made my skirts, blouses and vests.

Now to my joy, I have found all I need at Amazon. I have sent for shoes and got them so quickly. I have bought other things too and Amazon have really treated me as an important customer. They allowed me to send back and refunded me even. I am their customer now for sure. So now I want to share my experience with you!

IreneMarias paintings and photos

The first time I can remember that I was painting is when I was four years old. I had these childrens crayons. I held them ALL in my left hand while I painted with my right. I still do this when I have pens and crayons.

Since then I have tried to paint on wood with egg tempera colours. I cheated a little bit with oil. I did my best but I think I need a course. Then of course acrylics and later water colours. I found a friend who tought me lots about aquarell painting. How to use special paper, how to paint wet on wet and more. I am still practicing. I guess I never feel content with my work. One day may be. It shows because I have most of the originals in a drawer still..... some friends took out a couple and kept them.

About Zazzle or Cafe Press. It is so wonderful that I dont have to put up a sign - sold out!
There is lots to buy :)

I still have some of the originals but here you can get copies of my paintings on cafepress or redbubble. If there is anything you want that you cannot find here - just tell me and I will fix it.

This lens will be updated as I can take more photos of my paintings.

Thank you Jeni for your help and guidance!

This is a Stradivarius violin. It is the best violin ever made. It is said there are about 500 of them left in the world. When I looked at this photo I started to wonder - what is different to another violin? So I read about Stradivarius and I read about building a violin. I want to share what I found with you.

This lens will tell you about Stradivari - the man who built these famous violins but also about ordinary instruments and how to play a violin.

There is a link to a homepage where you can see step by step all the work behind building a violin! Scroll down. It is really amazing they took time to take all these photos. If you want to learn to play the violin, this lens will suggest what to do! For some years back in life, I took lessons. I just say: Be patient with yourself because it takes time to learn.

Stamens and pistils ❤

Stamens and pistils are the male and female reproductive organs in flowering plants. They are necessary for the sexual reproduction.

The male organs, the stamens, are growing in a ring inside the petals. They occur in different numbers in different plants and are composed of a filament (the stalk) and an anther. The anther keeps the pollen grains and opens when they are ripe. The pollen grains can be transported from one flower to another by for example wind or with the help of an insect.

In the centre of the flower the female organ is found. It can consist of one or several pistils. On the top of the pistil the stigma is found, under it a thin stalk called the style, and at the base the ovary (with ovules inside) that will grow into the fruit with seeds inside. The pollen grains are deposited on the stigma and fertilises the ovules.

The so important DILL comes back always in the recipes. Here in Sweden we cannot cook without that special herb. =D It gives a spice and a flavour to the dishes like nothing else can. So I recommend that you buy some seeds and make your own dill in a kitchen pot!

These recipes are modified to fit the American measures. I hope you want to try them! Tell me what you think.

People are running around trying to be what they are not. A black woman is using cream to be whiter and a white woman is working hard on her tan.
A black woman goes to the hairdresser to straighten out her her and the white woman to get a perm so she can have curles.
The question is - why not be happy either you are black or white! Good point.

Greta Lovisa Gustafsson or more known as - Greta Garbo - was born 18 September 1905 - and died 15 April 1990. She was a Swedish-born actress during Hollywood's silent film period and part of its Golden Age.

Regarded as one of the greatest and most inscrutable movie stars ever produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the Hollywood studio system, Garbo received a 1954 Honorary Oscar "for her unforgettable screen performances" and in 1999 was ranked as the fifth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.

In her later years she avoided the cameras and wanted to live her life privetly. Her face was still so beautiful even if she was old now. I remember how much we in Sweden wanted to read about her but there was nobody who could have an interview.

Literally hundreds of These stones can be found in many places in Sweden. The letters are carved into the stone. Somebody did want us to read and remember a person or an event. The use of Runes started about 2000 years ago.

The Runes were used also on gold and other decorations. The text in these special letters - Runes - are on this stone: "Astrid had this memorial made after Anund and Ragnvald, her son. (They) died in Denmark, were powerful in Rauningi and the ablest in Sweden." Today April 2009 a new stone was found in a parking place in Vallentuna. The gardener found it. The text on it is not complete but so far it says: FR put up this stone in memory of Frö Sten. May God help his soul. Can you imagine that nobody has seen the text in about 1000 years! And now we know it. The first stones on this lens are from a place called Aspa. You are welcome to see them anytime. We have filled in some paint in the carvings so you can read the letters :-D

This lens will present the Swedish smorgasbord on the ferries cruising between Sweden and Finland, Aland and Estonia. They go regular traffic and they usually have the most amazing smorgasbord you can imagine.

You have to book it ahead of time. The drinks are often not included but you have lots of time to sit down and eat for hours from these many displayed dishes with food. I have been here a couple of times and I know from experience that you just have to eat slowly and pick carefully. The eye wants to have more but the belly says enough eventually.

Carl Larsson (May 28, 1853-January 22, 1919) was a Swedish painter and interior designer. Many of us in Sweden concider his paintings part of the "real" Sweden. Still today, his interior details can be found in homes and ideas. His wife Karin was also a painter.

In 1888 the young family was given a small house, named Little Hyttnäs, in Sundborn by Karin's father Adolf Bergöö. Carl and Karin decorated and furnished this house according to their particular artistic taste and also for the needs of the growing family.

irenemarias Silly January Celebration

When the sun is almost not visible and the winter is hard, with winds and weather. Then, I will listen for a special sound. Every year in January the Ravens start their nesting and mating season. I love that sound and when I look up, I can see them in pairs. Flying, playing and sounding their funny KRRRP. KRRP.

In Swedish the word for raven is korp, so we make a joke and say that this is the only bird who can say its own name! KRRRP

The male often wants to impress his woman and will fly around her, making circles and loops. He even flies on his back sometimes. =) The nesting also is starting in January.

The days are now getting longer and longer. The sun is coming back to give us light and warmth. That is my steady celebration in January and I am so grateful I know about these birds and their very first KRRP.

I want to give all earnings from this lens to charity Squidoo. So keep shopping here!

This lens is all about rosebuds. To paint them, to create them from food or other materials. Enjoy your browsing. I will start with a recipe for your dinner table:

How to Make Your own Rosewater

To make your own rosewater, fill a pot with clean rose petals. Pour boiling water over and cover with a lid. Allow to stand. Place the cooled mixture in the refrigerator overnight. Strain. You'll have a beautifully colored liquid that you can use in recipes that call for the addition of rosewater.

Pour leftover liquid into ice cube trays and freeze. Store ice cubes in a plastic bag for future use. Thaw the cubes each time you need rose-flavored liquid.

Put on a fancy hat

One rainy day, I was on my way to work. The sky was gray and I was tired. The street was a little slippery and I looked down on my feet.

Suddenly I was aware of that somebody came walking towards me. It was and elderly woman, in black shoes, black coat and black gloves.

BUT

On her head was the most beautiful hat I have ever seen. Pink with all kinds of flowers all around. There was a scarf under her chin coming from the hat. I will never never forget the impact this sight had on me. From then on I realized the importance of a really outstanding HAT!

If you are invited to a party, a dinner, a wedding or just feel like you want to be encouraged. Get a fancy hat! Use it and look often in the mirrror!

Canary Island - Fuerteventura

If you like vast Beaches and lots of sun - this is the place for you. It is raining average 6 days per year! Some of the beaches are so vast, you cannot see people at all. There are fantasic waves for surfers and lots of shallow beaches for children. Sometimes there is an artist showing how to build sand sculptures...and I mean Sculptures that are awsome. Here you can learn and get Certificate for Scuba diving or learn how to windsurf. The wildlife in the Atlantic Ocean is so fantastic. Here are one third of all the whales and Dolphines in the world passing through. You can go in a glass bottom boat or use snorkle equipment to see turtles, fishes and beautiful reaves. The name Canary islands comes from the latin word for dog Canis. When the Islands started to be inhabited by Spanish sailors (about year 1400) there were lots of dogs on them. The 'Serinus canaria forma domestica' or Canary bird got the name from the islands later.

Fuerteventura is the second largest island of the famous Spanish archipelago known as the Canary Islands , just off the northern coast of Africa. It is lined by 210km of lovely beaches with white sand and crystal clear blue and turquoise water. Jandia is the longest beach in Europe! The weather in Fuerteventura is definitely so warm and pleasant that you will really like to spend as much time as possible there. This island is also a must for those who enjoy diving and windsurfing. Fuerteventura has recently turned into one of the main Spanish tourist resorts for water sports such as sailing, water skiing and even fishing. Needless to say that there is a long list of ideal beaches for surfing. Many of the hotels are wheel chair and baby buggy friendly. You can walk from your hotel to "your" lovely beach!
The ancient town Betancuria located in the centre of Fuerteventura is named after the French conqueror Jean de Bethencourt , known to have been the first town in the Canary Islands. According to historians, its rich water resources and vegetation attracted the guanche people, that is, the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands . Some interesting traces of this civilization can be seen in the archaeological museum of the town, Tefia.
Fuerteventura is a very calm place and the people that live here are kind. If you can speak Spanish you can benefit more but there are many areas where shop owners and others speak English, German or even Swedish :-)
In the north there is Baku Water Park that is worth a visit. They have water slides and lots of fun. Be prepared to spend the day. In the south of the island is the wonderful Oasis Park – La Lajita with 200 animal spieces including Alligators, Monkeys, Giraffes, Zebras and Birds. The 200,000 Square meters of Botanical Gardens, which feature many Endemic Species and Cacti, can be enjoyed from the back of a Camel on the Camel Safari.

A red, swollen rash or Watery blisters? You might have Nickel Allergy! From now on you must be very careful not to allow your body to get in contact with Nickel!

Nickel is found in a lot of metal. Buy the little kit from the pharmacy I have posted here and find out. Cuttlery, handles, coins and of course cheap jewelry has nickle in them.

What you then has to do is NEVER I repeat - NEVER - touch nickel again. The reason is that the metal never leaves your body ever. It is building up inside you!

Atmosphere is the huge blanket of gas that circles the entire Earth. Without it, life as we know it could not exist.
The atmosphere
This blanket of gas starts at ground level and stretches 600 miles into the sky. However, most of this life-supporting shell is squashed down into a layer only six miles thick. The top of Mount Everest barely peeks above the edge of this layer.

The remaining 594 miles cannot support life. However, these layers do protect us from the dangers of the sun's radiation. They also protect us from drifting rocks, big hunks of metal, and other bits and pieces of space junk that collide with our planet from time to time.

Movie - Dinner for one

When you live in Sweden you pretty soon have to get used to the Swedes love of tradition. This is sometimes taken to extremes especially where the festive TV schedule is concerned. On New Years Eve the TV is showing a special movie.

Most bizarre of all to me though is Grevinnan och Betjänten (or "Dinner for One" as the original English stage version is called). The English sketch, which has been shown every year since about 1963. Swedes quote the whole thing word for word with the same kind of comedic enthusiasm usually reserved for Monty Python sketches.

The old Lady has four guests at the table: Sir Toby, Admiral von Schneider, Mr Pommeroy and Mr Winterbottom. The old faithful butler, Freddie Frinton, is playing the roles of all the guests. Miss Sophie, May WarDer 90, is deciding about food and drinks. James, the butler, has to serve AND drink for all four guests.

This lens will give lots of information about how we can "read" a person through looking at the eyes.

Here is also some information about the debated way to see in the eyes if a person is healthy or not.

When I was just a little girl I still remember that Stockholm celebrated its 700 years as a city. Some of the very first houses are still there to see. The old town has alleys so narrow you can acually touch both walls of the houses. Built on 14 islands around one of Europe's largest and best-preserved medieval city centres, the Swedish capital is superbly positioned where the lake Mälaren opens up into the Baltic Sea. Our aim is to develop Stockholm further, to facilitate everyday life for its citizens and to make Stockholm Northern Europe's most attractive location for people and businesses looking for quality of life, growth and a vibrating knowledge-based society. Intelligent Community Forum, ICF, named the City of Stockholm as one of the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of 2009 at a 21 January ceremony during PTC'09, the annual conference of the Pacific Telecommunications Council in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. The 14 District Administrations in Stockholm are responsible for providing the majority of City services within their own geographical areas. Every one of them has a District Council which bears the political responsibility for each Administration. VISIT STOCKHOLM This link has a lot of information if you want to come to Stockholm

Archipelagos means many islands outside a coast line. The five largest modern countries that are mainly archipelagos are Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Indonesia (the world's largest archipelagic state). The largest archipelago in the world by size is Indonesia. The archipelago with most islands is the Archipelago Sea in Finland, but these islands are generally small.

Close to Finland is the Swedish Archipelago and between them is Åland. In the Baltic see we have the Stockholm archipelago where I have spent almost every summer in my life. Some of the rocks are washed by water for centuries and they are smooth like a floor. When the sun is warm I love being there. You can sunbath and jump into the water when ever you feel like it.Archipelagos means many islands outside a coast line.

MAD Magazine

Alfred E. Neuman is the gap-toothed, goofy-grinned icon of MAD magazine, the humor and satire comics magazine founded by William M. Gaines in 1952. The origins of the image are a mystery, but the name and the face were first paired in 1955, in issue number 29 (previously he had been called Melvin Coznowski and Mel Haney). In 1956 artist Norman Mingo painted the standard for the now-familiar face that has, in various guises, graced the cover of MAD ever since, with the accompanying motto, "What -- Me Worry?"
MAD's Greatest Artists:
Sergio Aragones:
Five Decades of His Finest Works

In the '60s lawsuits over the use of the image were unsuccessful after MAD demonstrated that the face had been used for a variety of purposes since as early as the 19th century. In the late 1990s the publishers of MAD broke tradition and allowed the image to appear in advertising, a favorite target of the magazine's lampoons since its inception. An archetype of the carefree idiot, Neuman has since appeared in ads for computer gear, instant orange drink, milk and clothing.

Mad for Decades:
50 Years of Forgettable Humor from MAD Magazine

A running joke since 1956 has been Neuman's campaign for the U.S. presidency and his slogan: "You could do worse, and always have!"...

If I get ill I know what I would like to have. Some of the things are here in my lens. Others are too personal to mention in public :)

I hope you can get some tips here. Try to think about your friend or relative as somebody who cannot move very much. On top of that she or he may be weak and tired. That automatically sort out a lot of things to do.

To bring fruit, drinks and flowers is of course never wrong. I just looked beyond that and give these suggestions. The items do not come in a special order. YOU know what YOUR friend or relative is like!

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky 1840 - 1893

His music is the most dramatic and romantic ever composed. His emotions and feelings are reflected in his music. He had the music in his blood from birth.

The intensity of personal emotion now flowing through Tchaikovsky's works was entirely new to Russian music. He wrote Symphonies, Ballets, Romances and much more. In Ouvertyr "1812" one can hear the French national hymn passing by. That war was won by the Russians...

He was born 1840 in Kamsko Vitkinsk in Russia. One boy of five in the family. 1850, When he was only 10 years old he was sent to Moscow to study law. During that time he also took part time music studies.

1854, When he was 14 years old, his mother died of cholera while he was in Moscow. This was hard on his heart.

Tchaikovsky got his exam in law 1859. He got a job in the office of justice but stopped after a while and took up his music studies - now full time.

Because of his skills in composing and harmony he got to work as a teacher at the Academy of Music in Moscow. At this time he had started to compose and wrote Symphony no 1 and Romeo and Juliet. He was saluted by his conterporaries and from now on recognized as a great musician.

The beautiful old building Academy of Music in Moscow is still there and his music is living on. He stopped working there 1878.

A Piano Accordion brings lots of memories to me. Here I will share some of them with you. This is about one specific player. He started to play the accordion when he was 9 years old. He could hardly carry it to the lessons. After years of playing at partys and dances he became very skilled and remembered lots of music by heart. Sometimes I think the memory acually was in his hands as much as in the head. I loved to hear him boogie away. Always in a good mood and happy. Another thing I admired about him was that he never gave up when he was practicing. Over and over again he played until he knew the music. What a musician!! His life was filled with music from morning to evening. Much of it from a piano accordion. He had many but my favourite was a Van Damme Jazz accordion with a very deep and clear sound. You could acually sit very close and still be able to talk to a person. Do you know how to recognize an accordion player? He has the wrist watch on his right hand! The bellow strap is tight on the left :-)

We all have events, people, sadness or joy connected to music. Right?

Here are some of my sometimes very personal memories. I am Swedish so a couple of songs are from my country but the music is international so I think you can enjoy even if you don't understand the words. . Buy at AllPosters.com

Prior to his sudden death of a heart attack in November 2004 he finished three detective novels in his trilogy "The Millenium-series" which were published posthumously; "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest". Millenium comes from the name of a news paper that the main caracter is working for.

Altogether, his trilogy has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide (summer of 2009), and he was the second bestselling author in the world 2008.

Daniel Craig will star in Dragon Tattoo remake

Sony confirmed the rumors, the hopeful/wishful fan speculation, and made it official. Sort of. They're hoping Daniel Craig will star in the Hollywood remake of the superb Swedish thriller The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's due out Dec. of 2011.

David Fincher's directing it. Who will play the title role, that of the sexually abused, rough-and-ready bisexual computer hacker/security expert who helps Craig's disgraced reporter with his investigation into a murder mystery - the American actress Rooney Mara

How ever you paint them you are right. I have actually been to Holland to see the tulip fields and it is amazing. Since our eyes can see three dimentions there is no way a photo can do justice to the glory. This lens will give some information about tulips. I have painted tulips too. A couple of the paintings are here..... but much is gone to buyers or given away to friends. In Sweden we have a little song about giving Tulips for congratulations so I gave painted ones to people I love. I have painted Tulips on baskets, cutting boards, bread rakes and so on. Some are really nice acually. =)

When you keep reading the lens you will find that the tulip does NOT originate from Holland (Netherlands) as so many believe. They come from another country out east. Origins are Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and other parts of Central Asia.

Lennart Nilsson, Professor and photographer

When I got my third child, Lennart Nilssons photos were on TV and in all the papers. I bought the book - 'A child is born' and was absolutely in awe. There was the story of a baby in photos. I could see how the little one grew. I found out that he could hear me and the surrounding sounds in his first month of existing. I learned how early the heart started to beat and could follow the developing of arms, legs and eyes. Lennart Nilsson really opened a door to the biggest secret of life. In 1969 he began using a scanning electron microscope on a Life assignment to depict the body's functions. He is generally credited with taking the first images of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and in 2003, he took the first image of the SARS virus.

Around 1970 he joined the staff of the Karolinska Institutet and has worked there since. Together with the other Professors and scientists there he now is taking photos of the human cell. The cell is so small and here we can see photos of the inside of it. The theam are now trying to find out all they can about the bird flu virus. There are two new films made about this wonder. I will follow the result for sure.

Polar World, Orsa Sweden

Today is a great day, not only for all animal friends in Dalecarlia, Sweden and around the world, but also for all polar bears. Polar World is the largest polar bear park in the world, and is the first of its kind to have a breeding program for polar bears.
- Words are not enough in expressing how proud we are to finally be able to open the park. The idea was born in 2004, and now our first polar bear couple, Ewa and Wilbär, have a new home here. The international interest has been enormous, says Torbjörn Wallin, CEO at Orsa Grönklitt, which holds Polar World.

The 41 000 sq m eter polar bear park opens today to the public in Orsa Bear Park at Grönklitt resort in Orsa, Dalecarlia. The polar bear park offers large and deep swimming waters, separate artificial snow production, space for fishing, dens for hibernation, including exhibition halls, amphitheatre and information areas for visitors.
The polar bear is today classified as an endangered species due to diminishing areas of ice around the polar areas and worsening conditions for hunting seal. One goal for the park is to ensure that polar bears have a good genetic variation in case of rehabilitation or relocating polar bears in the wild in the future. Polar World is acting as a European breeding facility for polar bears, and is also a part of a new European preservation project focused on polar bears.
- We have been listening to experts from all over the world and made a list of how their dream park for polar bears would look like. That is how Polar World was born.

Some people say a man is made out of mud

Who are those people that say that? I have found that it is the ones that believe in the Creation as it is told in the Bible.

Genesis chapter 2 verses 4 - 8

"In the day that God made the earth and the heavens, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up-for God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground- then God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.

And God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed."

So now I asked myself: What Are the Elements in the Human Body? Are we created from mud on the earth? Here are some of all the answers I found.

Mikael Persbrandt's date of birth is: 25 September 1963He was born in Stockholm , Sweden. He is an unusual skilled actor. In some plays and movies you can see, how he change the look in his face and through a subtle eye glance can talk volumes to you.

Most Swedes connect him with the movies about The police serie BECK. It is criminal stories where Mikael plays the role of Gunvald Larsson. He is a polis with methods of his own, but he is even if he is violent, he accomplish what others do not.

Mikael Persbrandts blue eyes looked into mine and I just loved him. So now, when the Oscar award is given to the movie where he is performing, I just have to share this fantastic actor with you all. The Oscar was given for best Best Foreign Language Film. It is made by the Danish Susanne Bier. She is a very skilled movie maker!

Today there is a fantastic "Astrid-Lindgren-world-for chiildren" (see link below) Here it is a whole world with houses and figures that we recognize from her books. Some of Astrid Lindgrens stories are so perfect and apeal to my heart. She really knew the way children think and dream. She touched the heart of millions and I hope you will try out a book or two to see for yourself.

Some of the books are filmed in English too. Go ahead. You have a lot to win.

Since I was a tiny little girl, I have loved music, I have danced, played instruments and of course listened to music. I guess you can call me a omnivorous when it comes to music!

In my home town, there was a musician who donated a lot of money to help children in school learn how to play for free. You were allowed to borrow an instrument and try. If you after a year (two semesters) still thought this is the path for you, then you had to buy your own instrument. Many of us bought used ones and continued playing and learning for free at school.

My first instrument my mom and dad bought for me was a recorder of wood. The second was a violin that i played for many years

Bach was a prolific German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity.

He was born into a family of musicians. His Father played the organ and tought his son to. His brother took care of Johann when both parents died 1694 and 1695. Johan and his brother moved eventually to another brother, Johann Christoph, who also played the organ.

Johann Sebastian Bach wrote organ music but also music for chello and violin. Das Wohltemperierte Klavier and Branderburger concerto among others.

This is so true but there is so much more to Swedish food. A cookbook named "The Swedish table" contains more than 125 recipes of the most common dishes in Sweden.

I have also added recipes how to make home made rose nip soup, and home made lingonberry jam. Enjoy your reading!

Today I have seven (7!) grand children. There are two boys and five girls. Some of them I see quite often. They live here in Sweden. But two are living in Ethiopia and that is very far away from here.

The oldest is a very handsome boy born 1986. That´s when I became a Farmor. He looks so much like his father - my son.

Blue Man Group is a creative organization founded by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman. The organization produces theatrical shows and concerts featuring music, comedy and multimedia; recorded music and scores for film and television; television appearances for shows such as The Tonight Show, Las Vegas, Scrubs, FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, and Arrested Development; and a children's museum exhibit ("Making Waves"). All of the organization's appearances star a trio of performers called Blue Men, who appear to have blue skin and no voice, hair, or ears.

The Blue Men group are performing for the first time in Scandinavia, Stockholm. I was there and I must say that I dont have enough adjectives in the English language to praise them. The performance is fantastic. They are so skilled muscicians and made us all laugh so hard, clap our hands and shout! I have been at many good performances but this was something extra. The concept is new and brilliant and the music is stuck in my head for good now.

I really recommend The Blue Men Group to all of you. Including families. There were many children in our audience and The blue men invited them too into the show. During the whole show there was not one spoken word. The mimes were so funny and so perfectly done. Hurra! yippee!

Let me say that I am not choosing items only because they are expensive. I am choosing because this is what I like but never could afford. Dreaming is free and now I will dream away in my own house.

I will probably change the things now and then, as I feel like it. Since dreaming has no costs, it does not matter. In my whole life I have loved flowers in all colours and shapes. So here are lots of them!
Welcome in and have a look!

Fish pond - for child party success

When you want to do something really extra for your child´s party - Create a fish pond! All children (all ages) in Sweden just love this. Everybody gets a little gift but you have to work for it. You must fish behind the curtain and nobody knows what you can get (except the person behind). The Fisherman gets to use a rod with a line and in the end a laundry pin. All the guests line up and wait their turn. An adult should be there on the outside to first of all - help the children with the rod but also so whisper to the person behind the blanket - if there are different items for boys and girls and for younger and older guests......The kids love it when the line is "stuck". You have to pull and pull to finally get your catch.

In Swedish the word for Fishpond is Fiskdamm. You will se it on some of the photos I have posted here. A Fishpond is a must at a successful party. The gifts can be so simple and not expensive. One warning thou.... rememeber that some kids cannot eat candy for different reasons. So dont use that as a "fish"!

The children are more interested in the fishing than in what is stuck in the end of the line when they pull up the catch! I used to let them fish more than once just because of that. Small things and often is better than a big thing once!

If you are indoors, you can put ut the curtain between two rooms like on this picture. Or you can have it in a corner where there is the option to hook up a blanket or a paper. I strongly recommend not to use paper. The eager fishers will tare it down eventually. Use a blanket or a sheet with text on.

Garden Gnome Liberationists

I could not but smile, when I first heard of the "Garden Gnome liberationists". It all started in France as a joke or prank.
(Front de Libération des Nains de Jardin). There are so many people involved now all over the world acually.

The prank is, that you steal a Garden Gnome and take it somewhere else and put it there in another garden. May be you allow the "Guest" to send a postcard or even a photo to the previous owners, telling that the "Gnome" enjoy the vacation. After a long time they may be moved or even sent home again. And the person sending the Gnome pays for that! =)

As modern-day garden gnome folklore developed and their popularity increased, the objects became the target of pranks, known collectively as gnoming. Gnoming activity includes the theft of garden gnomes for the alleged purpose of returning the inanimate garden gnomes "to the wild." In 2008, a 53-year-old French man in Brittany was arrested on suspicion of stealing as many as 170 garden gnomes.

Do you recognize these names: Nabucco (Nebudkadnessar or Nabucodonosor), Macbeth, Jerusalem; Rigoletto, La Traviata, Aida, Otello, Falstaff, Ave Maria? All of them are written by Giuseppe Verdi and these are only a few of all the music that is his. I know that if you listen to Verdi´s music you will often say - Oh I know that one, I have heard this one in a movie and so on. Verdi´s music is still used and loved after so many years. Verdi's masterworks dominate the standard repertoire a century and a half after their composition. To just mention one of many - The movie The Godfather III used Verdis music.

Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi lived 1813 -1901.

One summerday some years ago I went to a theatre here in Stockholm to see STOMP. Some guys that could make music and beat with sticks, cans or anything they just happened to be next to.

I tell you - never in my life had 1 and a half hours passed that quickly. I was totally in awe. This was probably the best live performance I had seen ever.

The "Stomp" series of productions have been playing around the world for years and this new "Stomp Out Loud" production at Planet Hollywood doesn't stray too far from the original concept. If you want to be reductive about the whole thing, it is basically a bunch of people making noise that somehow turns into music but of course it is so much more than that.

Art made by irenemaria When I was a little girl, my parents had an oil painting with a lot of different flowers mixed. They were in a vase and there was a butterfly among the flowers. I guess it influenced me more than I knew. I still love to paint flowers that are mixed. Some of them are not even growing at the same time in Sweden but that does not stop me:) These flowers are just two of many I have done over the years. If you see anything that you would like to add your own words to - just tell me.

Canary Island - La Gomera

When I hear the word La Gomera, I instantly think about the ancient and unusual language Silbo Gomero they have preserved in generations. They whistle across the ravins and valleys. I have posted videos so you can listen!

The island, which belongs to Africa with reference to geography and to Europe politically, is within a stone's throw of the African coast, extending at only about 150 km distance, between the 27th and 29th degree of latitude. Gomera stretches over about 373 km2 and therefore is the smallest but one of the seven main islands of the Canary archipelago.

Due to its pleasant climate, Gomera is especially popular with Northern European visitors. Average temperatures of 22 °C in winter and 27 °C in summer give rise to feelings of eternal spring.

For most tourists the reason to come to La Gomera is the breathtaking nature. Wild and fractured landscapes have imprinted the island's picture. The central mountain massif of the Garajonay measures 1487 m at its highest peak.

The mechanical genius Bartolomeo Cristofori invented the piano around 1700.
Kohler Digital KD160 Ebony High Polish

The name piano is actually a shortened version of the Italian term pianoforte, meaning soft-loud, and referring to the fact that the pianoforte could produce sound volume covering a much larger range than its predecessors, the harpsichord and clavichord. There are two basic types: Grand pianos have their strings and soundboard parallel to the floor, and Verticals (or Uprights) have their strings and soundboard turned up perpendicular to the floor. Both kinds come in different sizes and styles.

The New Harvard Dictionary of Music2, 1986, defines "Boogie Woogie" as "a piano blues style featuring percussive ostinato accompaniments" that involve "steadily repeated bass patterns, one or two bars long" that "delineate the 12-bar blues progression, sometimes with IV in measure 2 or 10." This dictionary also states, "Melodies range from series of repeated figures reinforcing the explicit beat (including tremolos, riffs, rapid triplets) to polyrhythmic improvisations." To me that does not explain anything of the beat, the rythm and THE JOY of BW! The deep blue ones are cultivated but the smooth purple once are often growing wild. I love the smell of lilacs. That is summertime for me when it is at its best - midsummer when day and night merge.

Where I lived for many years we also had white lilacs. They were a little bigger than the others and were glowing in the dusk.

A near and dear friend of mine was married. She knew from start what to have in her wedding bouquet - BLUE roses. Not only the hand flowers were blue. She also had a tiara of blue roses in her hair!

For many years now she kept them dried and crisp. They are hanging on the living room wall. I have the photos from her wedding to realize that these flowers were absolutely fantastic when they were fresh.

My friend still loves the colour blue. Her glasses when we eat are blue. The back tiles of her kitchen too. There are lamps in her home in this rather strong blue colour.

I think I will give the original of this painting to her!

This is exactly the way I did my homework. At the kitchen table while mum was busy at the stove. I felt secure and to be honest - it was good for me because I had to be diligent. I liked to play and read novels. This way, I became educated.

My own chldren had their own room when they went to school. They still made much of the schoolwork at the kitchen table because then I could help and guide. The school lessons were more and more covering everything and homework was less and less. In Sweden we do not have "home schooling". At least not yet.

My grandchild has a corner of her own. She can be there and nothing can be smarter. She has her own territory. I think she even has a TV in there under the bed =)

A few weeks ago, there was an article in the news about coffee. They said that research and tests have showed that coffee is preventing a person from developing demencia. I smile and feel that now I have the ultimate reason to continue drinking my morning cup.
Coffee People Kona Blend Island Style, Extra Bold K-Cups for Keurig Brewers
(Pack of 50)

My family and friends know, that first thing in the morning I must have a large cup of coffee before they can talk to me! I sit in my bed with my big mug. I usually prepare the coffee the evening before so I just can hit the button in the morning. I am really morning tired and need my coffee in silence. Later in the day I do not drink coffee at all. There is a reason to be careful..... ______________________________________________________________________ You know you are drinking too much coffee when... You can "out-yip" your chihuaha. There's more grounds than soil around your garden plants. You make coffee ice cubes for your iced coffee. You eat coffee jello (or coffee agar for coffee-lovin' vegetarians). (The above four are courtesy of Ruth Gagliano) You haven't blinked since the last lunar eclipse. All your kids are named "Joe." You've built a miniature city out of little plastic stirrers. You have a picture of your coffee mug on your coffee mug. People get dizzy just watching you. You sleep with your eyes open. You have to watch videos in fast forward. People can test batteries in your ears. You don't get mad; you get steamed.

Coffee!

A mild summer night, perhaps in a restaurant, you can hear the sound of a soft accordion playing love songs. Some memories are triggered by sound some by smell and yet some by photos. I have them all when it comes to accordion music.

One thing that is so wonderful with an accordion is, that you can bring it. Use your own music instrument always and bring joy to people.

Some people say that accordion players are boring. It is said that an accordion player never smiles when he is playing. But I have met and seen players that can both smile, laugh, stamp the feet and sing along while they are playing. You have to give them credit for this!

From one of the readers of this book:
"I used this book every day during my pregnancy and wrote down everything that I ate, tabulating necessary grams of protein, carbohydrates, iron, sodium, vitamin K, etc. As a result, I learned an incredible amount and debunked many myths as to what nutritional value is or is not in many foods. I am ordering this book again, as I loaned it to someone and it "walked away." (That's alright--hope they got much benefit from it.)
I love this book because I could not find ONE source out there that listed all the federally mandated information about the foods we eat--they all seemed narrow in their focus, not broad in scope."

The name Lego comes from Danish leg godt, which means "play well"

When I was cleaning the house - Yello was there with me. When I drove the car - they were there too. I was sitting like in a huge head set =D Yello has to be listened to with a sub woofer. I hope you will enjoy this lens about them. Listen to the youtubes and maybe buy or download their music.

The band was originally formed by Boris Blank (keyboards, sampling, percussion, backing vocals) and Carlos Perón (tapes) in the late 1970s. Dieter Meier (vocals, lyrics), a millionaire industrialist and gambler, was brought in when the two founders realised that they needed a singer.

Yello is a Swiss electronica band consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank. They are probably best known for their singles "The Race" and "Oh Yeah", which feature a mix of electronic music and manipulated vocals, as does most of their music.

Their lovely official site is here:

Chopin is widely regarded as the greatest Polish composer. Chopin was born in the village of %u017Belazowa Wola, in the Duchy of Warsaw, to a Polish mother and French-expatriate father and came to be regarded as a child-prodigy pianist. He got piano lessons when he was 6 years old. When he was 7 he published two Polonaises in G-minor. He was drawn to the piano powerfully and exclusively from as early as his hands could reach the keyboard. On it he began picking out melodies on his own. He received his earliest "piano lessons" not from his mother but from his three years older sister Ludwika. At the age of 12 he was accepted in the Music school in Warzaw. Chopin was highly influenced by his loved homeland Poland. This is where he found his love for the piano and he as inspired to express the voice of the opressed nation in his music.Opus 10 no 12 The Etyd Revloution is one example. The beauty of Chopin's works is a purely musical one, requiring no reference to literature or painting. Just listen to the Nocturns Opus 9 no 2 and Opus 27 no 2! Nocturne means Night music. All Chopin's works involve the piano, either solo or accompanied. Predominantly for solo piano, his oeuvre includes a small number of works for various ensembles, including a second piano, violin, cello, voice or orchestra. The four ballades, the four scherzi, the Barcarolle Op. 60, the Fantaisie Op. 49, and sonatas.

I will present a singer named Alessandra Amoroso, A painter Jack Amoroso and music made by Handel - Duello Amoroso.
My family name is also Amoroso and me you will get to know by reading my lenses =)

The Italian musical term amoroso describes the mood of a song, and is an indication to play in a loving manner; to play with love; lit. "loving."

In music, amoroso infers that a piece should be played in a soft, tender, amatory style.

A dear friend of mine is drinking too much. What shall I do?

The man who is clearly drunk is not nessecarily an alcoholic.
How do you feel about that statement? What is an alcoholic then?

If your friend sneeked out in the bathroom to have a glass of milk, what would you think? That he is sick? or crazy? or what. Well... at least you will realize that something is wrong - right? This is very often what an alcoholic does. Drink alone, in secret and without others around.

There is always a reason to drink. Either you celebrate the victory or you have to drown the sorrow. An alcoholic has an unhealthy view of drinking and will find a reason to all the time. The husband of my friend had the "smart" habbit of drinking a beer in the evening. He got more and more drunk and the little bottle of beer was not even finished. So here is what he did. He sneeked out in another room and had much stronger drinks and to hide that from his wife, he had the beer to cover over the smell from his mouth. Since I can tell you this, you understand that the wife found out.

This lens will try to sort it out for us. If I write "HE" you will have to realize I mean just as much "SHE"

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi ♬

Amazing how much there is to learn about a musician born 330 years ago. He died before Mozart, Beethoven or Tchaikovsky were born.

Probably because of his red hair, Vivaldi was nicknamed Il Prete Rosso - "The Red Priest" - he was a Venetian priest from 1703 and Baroque music composer, as well as a famous virtuoso violinist He was born and raised in the Republic of Venice. Even if he was a priest his heart was with the music!

Part from the Four Seasons Vivaldi wrote over 250 violin concerts, about 40 string concerts and a multitude of Solo concerts. He also wrote chambermusic and vokal musik. Some of his composings were very simple, kind of 5 fingers practises and that was exactly what they were! Vivaldi was a teacher too. Vivaldi was a maestro di violino (master of violin) at an orphanage called the Pio Ospedale della Pietà (Devout Hospital of Mercy) in Venice.

Vivaldi had a medical problem which he called the tightening of the chest (probably some form of asthma). Some meant that he blamed his chest when he wanted to sneak out and make music notes he invented:)

Other great musicians lived early enough to meet him or to be influenced by him. Bach for example loved the Vivaldi music and you can acually hear some of it in Bachs own work. It is said that a young Joseph Haydn sung at Vivaldi´s funeral.

Over the years of my life, I have had so many cats I have stopped counting. They had names like LILLEKISSE, PISSELUMPAN, BUSEN, VIPPEN, AIK, ROSA and many more.

I have always loved cats. My parents allowed me to have a cat but no dog. I came home from school and put my face into the purring stomach of my big gray cat Grålle on the bed. He was my soothing friend on a stressed teenagers mind.

Later in life, I had kittens every summer. I guess I saw about 100 of them being born in our home. I know that our Feline companions have great personality. Not two of them are alike. Some are moody some are wilder. Some are easy to train others never learn =)

A musician from Schwitzerland.

Influenced by vintage recordings of black pianists, Silvan Zingg taught himself to play the piano during his early school years. Silvan studied piano and trombone for six years and after completing courses in graphic design he started a professional music career.

Silvan quickly became a popular entertainer at his college due to his sensational interpretation of the blues. He easily convinced his listeners that he was passionate about music, including classic Boogie Woogie, Blues, and Jazz, with variations from other musical genres.

Anita Ekberg

Anita Ekberg was born in 1931, the oldest girl and the sixth of eight children. In her teens, she worked as a fashion model. In 1950, Ekberg entered the Miss Malmö competition at her mother's urging, leading to the Miss Sweden contest, which she won. She consequently went to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe title, despite not speaking English.

Although she did not win Miss Universe, as one of six finalists she did earn a starlet's contract with Universal Studios, as was the rule at the time.

Federico Fellini gave Ekberg her greatest role in La dolce vita (1960), in which she played the unattainable "dream woman" opposite Marcello Mastroianni; then Boccaccio '70 in 1960, a movie that also featured Sophia Loren. Fellini would call her back for two other films: I clowns (1972), and Intervista (1987), where she played herself in a reunion scene with Mastroianni.

La Dolce Vita was a sensational success, and Anita Ekberg's uninhibited cavorting in Rome's Trevi Fountain remains one of the most celebrated images in film history.

The lovegodess

Ekberg has not lived in Sweden since the early 1950s and rarely visits the country. She has welcomed Swedish journalists in her house outside Rome, and in 2005 appeared in the popular radio program Sommar, talking about her life. She stated in an interview that she will never move back to Sweden until she dies, when she will be buried there.Anita Ekberg has said that the Swedish people and media have not appreciated her sufficiently; nevertheless, her personal and radio appearances have been popular in Sweden.

In July 2009 she has been taken to an hospital in Rome by some friends who found her out of her house in Genzano di Roma.

Ludwig van Beethoven ♬

What do you think about when you hear the name: Beethoven? Many of us think about the crule ending of his life when he was completely deaf. Others may think about the V-sign during World War two. The V in morse is short short short long - like the 5th famous symphoni!

But there is much more to be told about this outstanding musician. Beethoven's compositional career is usually divided into Early, Middle, and Late periods. In this scheme, his early period is taken to last until about 1802, the middle period from about 1803 to about 1814, and the late period from about 1815.

In his Early period, he is seen as emulating his great predecessors Haydn and Mozart, while exploring new directions and gradually expanding the scope and ambition of his work. Some important pieces from the Early period are the first and second symphonies, the first six string quartets, the first three piano concertos, and the first twenty piano sonatas, including the famous "Pathétique" and "Moonlight" sonatas.

Choose a location with light shade for your new rhododendron, where it will be protected from hot midday sun. A northern location is a good choice. Select a moist, well-drained site with acidic soil. Text from this site

There were lenses made by giant squids. Lenses with a purple star and of course - the lens of the day. I descided that I did not care about this, I just wanted to share some of my interests and thoughts.

Since I just had moved back from the Canary island Fuerteventura, one of my first lenses were about this island in the sun. I cried a bit and remembered things and people. But eventually there was a lens ready to be published. I have added and changed over the years. Kept it fresh and updated. Now this lens is one of my Purple star lenses!

In the end of this lens I have posted some of the ingrediences you will need!

I am talking about Havrebollar, Chokladbollar or in English Oat rolls. When the balls are formed you can cover them with pearl sugar or cocos flakes. One recipe even suggests colour coverings with sprinkles any kind.

When the weather is bad and the children are restless. Then you suggest that they make Oat rolls. The sizes and recipes can vary - I will prestent some of them here.

Those who have seen Emmanuel's solo performances would agree.

Emmanuel has been nominated for two Grammy awards, set sales records that have yet to be broken and performed with hundreds of musical legends.

How to catch a falling star

One summer day in August, I caught a falling star and put it in my heart.

Falling stars are wonderful to watch. You feel so tiny and aware of how tiny you are in the universe. These falling stars are so far away but still we see them over the tree tops and the roofs of the nearby houses. These Perseids meteors are so so precisely predicted so you can book your flight to The Canary Islands and be SURE you will see them. The air is unusually clear over these islands. The shower is visible from mid-July each year, with the peak in activity being between August 9 and 14, depending on the particular location of the stream. During the peak, the rate of meteors reaches 60 or more per hour.

This story is true and I hope you will come with me up on our roof to watch these falling stars with us.

Swedish Taffy - Knäck

Old-fashioned molasses taffy is easily made at home. I use to put the whole candy into my mouth and suck away the paper cup. Then I take it out and continue to enjoy the nuts, almonds and flavor.

You can make this candy by yourself, but it is more fun to have helpers. To make Swedish taffy take time! Bribe the children to participate. They can stand at the stove and stir while reading a Donald Duck magazine or similar.

There are many recipes with flavors and ingredients that differ. This lens is about the simple common ordinary Taffy we call KNÄCK in Sweden.

Now we try so hard to look nice and to be able to wear a swim suit on the beach. I tell you - most of us do not look like models. But we can still be ok.

The second group is my so much loved flowers. I do paint them too but these are only from the photos taken.

The third group is showing different people and emotions. I could have made a whole lens with these alone.

As a conclution I posted the four seasons photos

I hope you will enjoy the vernissage in my home made gallery. Have your say in the polls after each group please

Music instruments - the drum

Once a skilled drummer told me: "Remember that you are in charge of the band! You keep the beat and you tell them how to play!" He was teaching me to play a snare-drum at a music festival. I had a private lesson outside the stage on the lawn.

I played the snare drum with brushes and I loved it! My dream is to learn to play properly and with a drum set. I know there is help in DVD´s and books. But first I have to find them. Searching for aid - I found so much about drums that I just HAVE TO share it with you!

I also worked as a teacher for years. I used to let my pupils enjoy pure beat. They were tapping with pens and feet and even the desk-lids. They used their mouthes and hands to make a sound. Oh boy so much fun we had! I will show some things here that a teacher absolutely can have the school purchase and use in the music lessons. Have fun !!

Scroll down to watch videos of really good drummers on the streets and in the subway!

Some thoughts about eggs.
I had my own chicken for years. I used eggs in almost every dish I was cooking. Mashed Potato, Pasta, on sandwiches and just to peel and eat if I was hungry.

There were always hard boiled eggs in my fridge in those days. Some of my chicken were so small so the eggs were used with double as much as other recipes.

Read to your children! Let them into the marvelous world of books. Read in the garden like the mother does on the poster. Read at bedtime to close the day.
Every year thousands of new books are written. However, there are already so many classic books that we should pay attention to. I find it very educational to read an old book. Many expressions we often use, are from those master pieces!

One of the lenses I posted here has ALL the Nobel prize winners in litteratur posted. There is a suggestion to start!=)

In Swedish we call them (translated) Thimble flower. I think that the English name is Foxglove. Correct me if I am wrong.

Roses do not need any presentation. They are known and loved by many.

Joannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart was born to Leopold and Anna Maria Pertl Mozart in Getreidegasse 9 in Salzburg, now Austria. Mozarts sister Nannerl tells: in the fourth year of his age his father, Leopold, for a game as it were, began to teach him a few minuets and pieces at the clavier. ... he could play it faultlessly and with the greatest delicacy, and keeping exactly in time. ... At the age of five he was already composing little pieces, which he played to his father who wrote them down." Eventually He wrote over 600 compositions!! The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, or Così fan tutte; opera seria, such as Idomeneo; and Singspiel, Die Zauberflöte are some.

One day I found a little brass figure "2". My mom stiched it onto the chest of my Bear and from now on, his name was TWO.

One day I descided he needed a fur cut. Took him away from moms eyes and cut him all over. He looke like he had been in the war. And to my surprise - the fur did not grow out again like my hair did after a cut.

Spring flowers start their lives in the fall

Easiest To Grow

It seems that crocus are one of the easiest of bulbs to grow and because of this, gardeners hold them in small esteem. Cheap in the stores, and plentiful in the gardens, these charmers should be planted in huge drifts in our gardens and wild areas. "More is better!" shrieks the flower lover in me.

Planting Crocus

Plant them in as much sun as you have, space them 3-4 inches apart, put them down 2-3 inches deep, and plant lots of them in the same area. Groupings of 20 to 30 in each spot will give you a good show.

A brief warning to the wise if I may, yellow crocus do well close to the house where the dogs tend to chase away the smaller birds and starlings. Planted far away from the house, the birds peck at the yellow flowers while they ignore the other colours. I have the devil of a time keeping yellow plants growing outside of the dog's area.

Blooming

Let me also suggest to you that the established clumps bloom earlier in the spring than first year plantings. Don't plan your garden colours around first year bloom times.

Music instruments - the guitar

Instruments similar to the guitar have been popular for at least 5,000 years. An acoustic guitar is one not dependent on an external device to be heard but uses a soundboard which is a wooden piece mounted on the front of the guitar's body. The acoustic guitar is quieter than other instruments commonly found in bands and orchestras so when playing within such groups it is often externally amplified. Many acoustic guitars available today feature a variety of pickups which enable the player to amplify and modify the raw guitar sound. Standard Tuning EADGBE. A guitar using this tuning can tune to itself using the fact, with a single exception, that the 5th fret on one string is the same note as the next open string; that is, a 5th-fret note on the sixth string is the same note as the open fifth string. The exception is the interval between the second and third strings, in which the 4th-fret note on the third string is equivalent to the open second string. Eight-string classical guitar are generally tuned with two extra basses [BD]EADGBE that vary in pitch depending on the piece being played. Another common variation is to add an extra bass and treble string. The name classical guitar does not mean that only classical repertoire is performed on it instead all kinds of music can be and are performed on it.

Love is all around is. We can find it in small things and major events. But this story is about blueberry love. A love that can only be expressed by somebody that is unselfish, loving and caring about others.

The story is also about love from one generation to another. Friendship over the generation gap. Love for nature and respect of old age. Who said that you have to spend time with your peers? Who think about an old lady these days? Another old lady as it were.

This love story touched my heart and I hope it will reach yours too.

My days as a Squid Angel

First I look for the introduction. Is it too short or too long, I can be grumpy. There has to be a photo according to the title of the lens. The introduction is the most important way to capture the readers.

Then I check if the content is personal and not copied from others. I want to see real comments and interesting facts about the lens. Humor is always a plus. The photos are still a great help and a must.

I like when the lens master include me in the lens by having polls, quizzes or other interacting modules. Some lenses are quite educational and give us opportunity to learn good and interesting things.

There are absolutely too many lenses out there with just a long row of links to buy stuff. No personal comments, only some copied facts about the product. Nothing between that can catch the attention and lighten up the lens. No photos or personality.

If a lens is too long, I wish the lens master would have made two instead of one lens. There is the module page break that allows the lens master to write lots of information.

Last I have had some difficulty to find good lenses within my assigned area. So it is very important that you use the tags and add many. Play around and change so it fits the content of the lens!

Gunter Wallraff, journalist

Wallraff would construct a fictional identity so that he was not recognisable as a journalist. In this way, he created books which denounce what he considers to be social injustices and which try to provide readers with new insights into the way in which society works. It is interesting to note that in Swedish we have a new word - a verb - to walraff. That means to disguise yourself and mingle publicly as a journalist.

Puzzleballs for fun and education

Who said that all puzzles have to be square? Today we have puzzles in three dimentions and here I show round ones. Puzzle balls in different difficulties and sizes. The one with a globe here on the lensphoto is our planet earth will all the names of countries, oceans and cities. For anybody this is a fantastic way of learning the geography and have fun at the same time. When you are done, there is a stand to keep your new globe on the desk to use.

Then we have another puzzleball of the earth for smaller children. The pieces are bigger and fewer and there are no names. Instead there are pictures of animals who live in that part of the earth. When the globe is finished there is a stand to put it on and enjoy it a long time!

Make your own soap - a full guide

I highly recommend this book, It is consice and to the point, it will get you through your first batch and several more.

Home made soaps are not just fun to make but are great gifts as well. I would really love to have one instead of chocolate or flowers. It also makes for a rewarding and unique experience.

The entire process of soap making, from start to finish, takes about 2 days which include mixing the raw materials, letting it cool down and moulding the mixture to obtain the finished product.

Anne Watson has many strings she plays. Soapmaking is just one. But an interesting one!

If you have children along with you while making the soaps, you must be careful with the materials and the heat.

Why shall we use sunglasses? To look smart or to BE smart? Our fragile eyes need the protection and we should provide it when we can. This lens will bring out the medical and physical reasons to use sun protection for your eyes.

Of course smart business men know that we want them and they do all they can to make us buy their brand mark. At the end of the lens is a link to all the known brand marks =D - But the truth is, that an ordinary kind can be just as good when it comes to protection. OK if you want the latest and can afford it - go for it.

This book is so extraordinary well written. I had to start all over again whith pen in hand this time. I enjoy the beauty of how he tells this story! The place where I stopped in awe was where it says: "The walls still oozed the corrosine vapor that ate away at furniture and clothes, sapping spirits, consuming even the soles of shoes."

This was in the very beginning of the book. All I can say is the rest was more and more fantastic! Better written than many books I have read ever.

His work has been translated into more than 35 languages and has received numerous international awards. His books have sold over 15 million copies worldwide and THE ANGEL'S GAME was the fastest selling book of all time in Spain.

Alice Babs and Charlie Norman

Alice Babs (born Hildur Alice Nilsson in January 26, 1924) is a singer and actor from Kalmar in Sweden. While she has worked in a wide number of genres, she is best known internationally as a jazz singer.

Making her breakthrough in Swing it magistern (Swing It, Teacher!) (1940), she appeared in more than a dozen Swedish language-films. Despite playing the well-behaved, good-hearted, cheerful girl, the youth culture forming with Alice Babs as its icon caused outrage among members of the older generation. A vicar called the Alice Babs cult the "foot and mouth disease to cultural life".

In 1958, she was the first artist to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 4th place with the song Lilla stjärna (Little Star). The same year, she formed Swe-Danes with Ulrik Neumann and Svend Asmussen. The group would later tour the United States together, before dissolving in 1961.

A long and productive period of collaboration with Duke Ellington started in 1963. Among other works, Alice Babs performed his second and third Sacred Concerts that were originally written for her. Her voice has an extreme range; Duke Ellington said that when she did not sing the parts that he wrote for her, he had to use three different singers.
Alice Babs is living in Sweden now.

She did her latest tournament 2004! Alice Babs says that her career has been so good because of hard work, good teachers and an understanding husband.

Teach your children to enjoy nature

"Mum, what is black and red with little dots on the back?"
"Hmm I dont know darling, I am reading now."
"It has many legs with hair on too...!"
"I said I dont know, please go and play now!"
"OK, but there is two of them crawling in your hair now!"

"AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!"

This scenery is not so uncommon. May be with other living things but still. Once I was the kind of woman who was scared of anything crawling, humming or shirping. The important thing that changed my view was that I got knowledge about nature and what is in it. I still remember the day, when I was standing ing the sun with only a bikini on, and I heard a loud sound of something flying in the air approaching my shoulder. When I slowly turned my head and had a look I felt I had conquered my fear for good. It was a big beetle with long antennas. But the thing is I KNEW IT WAS HARMLESS!

So why am I telling you this. Because this is what we have to teach our children. Take the little ones out in the forrest and help them to listen, smell, look and above all - enjoy nature. The smaller childeren do not have to be tought the names of flowers, birds or insects. All they have to do is to look and see the difference! There are leaves and needles. How do they look? And - A blue little flower, a bird that is singing "Kiss me, Kiss me" or an anthill with thousands of little working ants. Depending on where in the world you live, there can be some animals and insects that are dangerous. In Sweden where my children grew up are almost none.

Teach your child to LISTEN in nature. There is so many sounds and smells and wind blowing through the tree tops. Help them as early as possible to feel comfortable in the forrest. The woods is the nursery of the animal babies so we cannot thow paper and plastic garbage there. We have to bring it home. We cannot throw a bubble gum because it can be stuck on the birds beek and he cannot eat any more. And anything that we can eat, we can leave in the "nursery". Like the rest of an apple or pear but not the peels of an orange.

Shall God decide- how he wants to be worshipped?

Shall men decide how to worship God?

There are thousands of religions in the world. Some say, that the earth will burn up in fire. Others say that good people will come to heaven. Then we have religions that quote the Bible saying that there will be a paradise on earth. I can only say: They CANNOT ALL BE RIGHT. The truth can only be one. All these interpretations are guesses an wrong. To find the true answer, we must go to the Bible. It says there: Your word is truth. So to know what religion who teach the truth, examine the Bible thorougly!

Rudd's music is compassionate and always manages to render emotion in his fans. His songs include stories of the mistreatment of the indigenous people of his homeland; they tell of humanity, spirituality or the environment. The songs are written and sung with compassion and they urge the celebration of life.

Hand bags for the ball

You are invited to a big ball. Some close friends are coming and some you never met before. The dress you have chosen is not too flashy and you will have jewelry and shoes that go well with the dress.

BUT WHAT HANDBAG WILL YOU TAKE?

You want a bag that is small enough for an evening dress but large enough to carry your lipstik, tissues and may be your watch. There could be something else that is important for you to bring.

A lovely thought is that once you have bought your handbag and used it for this occasion, you dont have to put it away in a closet. For one thing - you can put it on the sofa table and have the remote controls in it. Put it on the wall and add some dried roses sticking out from it. Why not use it in the bathroom with cotton pads in?

A really nice, expensive handbag should not be put away!

In Japan we are following the horrible news about Nuclear Power Plant exploding and breaking down day by day. On a scale of seven the risk for a major catastrophy in Japan is today 6.

I listen to the news on TV and internet. Right now they tell us that a few workers are trying to cool the plant reactors. In Tokyo they were told to use umbrellas if they had to go outdoors. Some rumers say that there should be no landry hanging to dry outdoors. Save electricity and water is a must everywhere of course. The hardy people of Japan has been drilled since childhood what to do when there is an earthquake. We saw on the tv-news how the offices were filled of workers under the desks for instance.

So why build nuclear power plants in a country that is known for many earth quakes? The governments says that they are built to manage an earthquake!!??

Learn to play the piano!

You have to patiently wait for the growth. Cannot speed it up or force it.

When I was 13 years old, I got my first piano. It was big and black and had a fantasic tone. They told me it was an orchestra piano. I knew very little about how to play it but I did manage to find "twinkle twinkle little star" all by myself.

My understanding parents sent me to piano lessons. I had a skilled, thin and kind man to teach me for many years. In the beginning I wa so frustrated because it took so long to learn a complete song. He patiently forced me to practise scales, finger movements and the use or not use the pedals. My teacher found to his amazement that I played BACH so well. Oh my goodness. I wanted to play the pop-music of those days. So he allowed me to practice both.

Here I am now so many years later and can you believe it - there is a piano in my living room. I could not stay away from continue learning. Now I am ring rusty and need to start from the beginning more or less. But I am there quite often trying to sound like I used to.

The photo is Paderewski. A piano composer buy the photo at Allposters.com

If an athlete is training high jump, he must set the goal low enough to reach it and high enough to become better.

If you jump without a set goal, you will never grow. The same is if you set the goal too high and never reach it, you will not grow, but probably shrink down in despair and give up.

I must realize and accept that I am older than 30 years ago. So my goals must be what my body says and not what my inner person and heart wants to do. They do not cooperate any more! So here are my five goals for 2011 that I do have a chance to reach.

Now I am creating lens number 101 and will make a tribute to Squidoo for alowing me being a lensmaster. I will make this lens a charity for Squidoo lens. Hopefully I can "pay back" just a little bit of all I already got from Squidoo.

I know I have lots to learn still. I am aware of that I make spelling mistakes in English, I am Swedish and my lenses are influenced by that fact. But it seems like some of my readers like that.

After I moved all my PAINTINGS LENSES to a separate lensmaster, I have continued making lenses that interest me and that now are required in the Rocket mom Summer school.
