Gospel Tract Guide - Your guide to great resources in sharing the Word (and Love!) of God!

Many Christians think it's unimportant; some are just uncomfortable; more often then not, some plain don't care. We are called by God to be like Him, love like Him, die like Him. One of the greatest tools out there for witnessing, next to the Bible itself, is the gospel tract. Maybe you do not know how to start a conversation or don't want to start one. Tracts make great conversation pieces or great for handing out. Here in this lens I will cover some of the best companies out there. Witnessing: it is a task for the faint of heart, yes: for; as in our weakness He shows brightest. He makes us a bright light on a hill for others to know our All Loving God. We must be witnesses. Otherwise the point to God's human birth, life, death, and resurrection are pointless.

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous is a story about a teenage girl written in the format of a diary. Not much is told to us about the setting but the culture seems late 60's and the girl has no name, so we'll call her 'Alice'. Lots of spoilers on this lens. When we enter the story, Alice is a happy teenage girl but is moving to another town and starting a diary. Once she gets there she is no longer happy, as the kids in her new school are not what they seem. Invited to a party, she is tricked into taking LSD and so starts the long journey into Alice's drug addiction. Soon she runs away, is living on the streets in California where she is rapped and taken advantage of, falling further beneath the surface of drugs and the spaces between her entries lengthen. Soon, however, she is back in her hometown trying to recover from her addiction and lifestyle but her past 'friends' have no intention of letting her go. When she goes to babysit a neighbor's child she finds that someone left nuts laced in LSD. Upon eating them Alice goes into a bad trip and flips out, a neighbor finds her and locks her in a closet where she hurts herself trying to claw out. After this she is placed in a mental institution where she somehow keeps entries to her diary still. Alice is finally released from the institution but stops writing entries, her last one being considerable happy. But she dies a few weeks later of a drug overdose. Suicide or murder?

1984 by George Orwell

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell (a pseudonym for english author Eric Arthur Blair) was first published June 8, 1949 by Secker and Warburg, now an imprint of Random House Publishing. This lense will contain spoilers. A dystopian novel, 1984 focused Blair's dislike of communism and imperialism by creating a world in the grips of a totalitarian regime, or 'Big Brother'. The protagonist is Winston Smith, who is lured into joining a secret organisation seeking to remove Big Brother from power. He does not realise that he is being set up by O'Brien, a government agent. When captured and tortured, he eventually betrays his only accomplice, Julia, the woman he loves, and discovers that the underground movement, the Brotherhood, which they believed themselves to have joined may not, in fact, exist. The world described in Nineteen Eighty-Four contains striking parallels with the Stalinist Soviet Union and Hitler's Nazi Germany. There are thematic similarities: the betrayed-revolution, with which Orwell famously dealt in Animal Farm; the subordination of individuals to "the Party"; and the rigorous distinction between inner party, outer party and everyone else. There are also direct parallels of the activities within the society: leader worship, such as that towards Big Brother, who can be compared to dictators like Stalin and Hitler; Joycamps, which are a reference to concentration camps or gulags; Thought Police, a reference to the Gestapo or NKVD; daily exercise reminiscent of Nazi propaganda movies; and the Youth League, reminiscent of Hitler Youth or Octobrists/Pioneers. All in all, this novel paints a frightening picture of what could have been and what could be if such a government ever arose to great power in the world.

Chincoteague Ponies

The Chincoteague Pony is a hardy breed that breed originates on the Atlantic island of Assateague. The breed varies greatly in type and there is no true breed standard. Natural selection and the introduction of different breeds, most notably Arabian and Mustang, have led to this lack of a true type. Chincoteagues are known for being easy keepers and often do not require shoes. Most Chincoteagues are between 13 and 14.5 hands. Chincoteagues come in most all colors and patterns, with pinto being the most popular and the most prevalent. Chincoteagues have excelled in the show ring in a variety of disciplines. The wild ponies residing in the Maryland side of Assateague are owned and cared for by the U.S. Park Service. They are referred to as Assateague Ponies. The Chincoteague Pony Association was established in 1994. All ponies sold by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department are eligible for registration as well as those bred by private breeders. There are a number of Chincoteague Pony breeders scattered around the United States, the Chincoteague Pony Breeders Association was established in 2006. Several of these breeders also breed descendents of Misty of Chincoteague.

National Novel Writing Month

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30. Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly. Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down. As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and -- when the thing is done -- the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children. In 2005, we had over 59,000 participants. Nearly 10,000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists. So, to recap: What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month's time. Who: You! We can't do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let's write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together. Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work. When: Sign-ups begin October 1, 2006. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins. Still confused? Just visit the How NaNoWriMo Works page!

Coming soon. I'm currently very, very busy and hope to be back to updating regularly and finishing this lens, as well as my others, by mid-October. October is the crazy month for my family: births, deaths, anniversaries. My sister's baby is due the 9th and I'll be busy helping out there. So, please just remember to check back in a few weeks! With Love in Christ, Jennie
