What image comes to mind when you think of the harmonica? Maybe you picture a scene from an old movie with a hobo or convict slumped against a wall playing a sad, lonely tune or you see a blues musician on stage giving it all he's got to produce the most incredible riffs. Either way, you're hooked on the sound. The harmonica (aka harp) is a simple instrument capable of producing a wide variety of sounds and it fits in your pocket so you can take it anywhere. The good news is that it's fairly easy to pick up a harp and start playing. Harps are inexpensive, easy to find, and (best for me) you don't need to know how to read music or have any musical experience. This guide contains some of the tips and web resources that I'm using while learning to play the harmonica.

The novel was written by Jules Verne in 1874. This is an unusual book for Verne because it's more mystery than science fiction. It is also one of the books referenced on Lost and is credited with inspiring the creators of the game Myst. "The best historical novels ever written." - Richard Snow, The New York Times The "Master and Commander" series of books written by Patrick O'Brian is full of action, adventure, intrigue and historical insight. Set during the early 19th century, these books are a joy to read for any fan of historical fiction, sailing, naval history or just great literature. O'Brian's storytelling and character development abilities are incredible. I recently finished reading the last book of the series and recommend that you read the series in order (see list below) to maintain plot continuity and get the most enjoyment from each novel. This series of novels is commonly referred to as the "Aubrey-Maturin" series since it is centered on the close relationship and adventures of the two main characters, Captain Jack Aubrey and naturalist/intelligence agent Dr. Stephen Maturin. Some fans also refer to it as the "Aubreyad".

The Office - Is the US or UK Version Better?

I've watched the entire series for the American and British versions of The Office. They're both hilarious but the US version is better. David Brent might say "Yeah, he's American and watched the US version first so who cares what he thinks." He'd be right. But one of the many things David doesn't know is that I'm a big fan of British comedies and really enjoyed the UK version (still can't get "Free Love Freeway" out of my head). The shows are similar but each has its own style. The US version has better development of the supporting characters. The US and UK plot lines share some common elements but go their own way after the first episode. Both versions use a lot of subtle references and "under the breath" type dialog. Being American it was easier for me to catch more of the humor in the NBC version. Watch both versions and decide for yourself.

The original STAR WARS movies were first released when I was a kid. I was a huge fan and loved playing with Star Wars action figures and play sets. We couldn't afford to buy many toys so I usually got action figures instead of the more expensive Star Wars play sets. That was fine because I had a good imagination. Books and building blocks became space ships and command posts on far far away planets for my action figures. One of the few play sets I had was the Imperial Attack Base from the second STAR WARS movie, The Empire Strikes Back. Released by Kenner in 1980, it's an Imperial base on the ice planet Hoth with several cool features including a collapsing ice bridge and swivel mounted cannon. I played with it for hours! Coupling - The Hit BBC Comedy

Coupling is a hilarious British comedy that ran from 2000 to 2004 on Britain's BBC2 and won "Best TV Comedy" at the 2003 British Comedy Awards. The show focuses on the lives and relationships of the six main characters. They're all connected to one another either as best friends, co-workers, currently dating or ex-dating. Some reviewers have described it as a cross between "Friends" and "Seinfeld". It does have some similar elements to them but I think Coupling is better than either of those shows. NBC unsuccessfully attempted an American version of Coupling in 2003.

Founded in 1829, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. of Pottsville, PA, is recognized as "America's Oldest Brewery". Yuengling (pronounced Ying-ling) has a very loyal customer base in Pennsylvania and surrounding states because of their great beers, reasonable price and family tradition. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, founder David G. Yuengling changed the name of the brewery when his son, Frederick, joined as a partner in 1873. The brewery has been continuously owned and operated by the Yuengling family for 5 generations. Richard (Dick) Yuengling, Jr. (great, great grandson of the founder) is the current owner and president. In 1999, Yuengling purchased the former Stroh's brewery in Tampa, FL, to begin expanding in the Southeast and is now the sixth largest brewer in the United States. You can take a tour of either brewery. The Yuengling brewery in Pottsville was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Pennsylvania State Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Fred Dalton Thompson is a former US Senator from Tennessee. He began his career as an attorney who served as an assistant US Attorney and then the Minority Counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee. His movie acting career began in 1985 and he has since played in many movies alongside stars such as Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood. You may also know him from his recent television role as District Attorney Arthur Branch on NBC's Law & Order. Fred was first elected to the Senate in 1994 to fill the remainder of Al Gore's term. In 1996, Fred overwhelmingly won re-election to the Senate. He chose to leave the Senate when his term ended in 2002. During his Senate campaigns, Fred was known for driving across Tennessee in a used red Chevy pickup truck that he also drove to Washington DC for his swearing in ceremony. What else? Oh yeah, he's also a former candidate for US President in the 2008 presidential primary race. Gary Primich was an amazing blues singer and harmonica player. A native of the midwest, he began playing the harmonica as a child and mastered playing the blues in Chicago. Whether playing with his own band or in gigs with other musicians, Gary's talent and down to earth nature always shown through in his music. Deep in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey lives a creature that has brought fear and mystery to the region since the 1700s. This creature is known simply as the Jersey Devil. It is described in most accounts as having a horse's head, a long tail, bat-like wings and long hind legs with cloven hooves. Some people have also claimed to witness it breathing fire. Nearly all reported encounters with the Jersey Devil mention its bloodcurdling scream.

It's a simple checklist to reward attributes that make a great lens and add to the quality of the Squidoo community. Homer Simpson plus William Shakespeare's MacBeth equals one of the funniest shows you'll ever see. This amazing one man show written and peformed by Rick Miller features over 50 voices from The Simpsons TV series while the script is 85% of the original Shakespeare. If you're a fan of either The Simpsons or Shakespeare (or both), then go see this show! My wife and I saw MacHomer at the Kennedy Center a few years ago and we could not stop laughing. The voice impersonations are spot on and the action is non stop. I just wish this was around when I had to read MacBeth in high school English class. We saw MacHomer again last year and it's better than ever. Rick Miller updated it for the show's 10th anniversary with new video and references to current events. He was also available after the performance for questions and script signings.

The Pageant of Peace is a ceremony held each year in early December to light the National Christmas Tree. The Pageant of Peace includes performances by popular entertainers and is highlighted with the first lighting of the National Christmas Tree by the President of the United States. The tradition of US presidents lighting a Christmas tree outside of the White House began in 1923 with President Coolidge. The ceremony that accompanies the first lighting was officially named the Pageant of Peace in 1954. The National Christmas Tree remains decorated through Jan 1 and is a very popular holiday attraction in DC. Nightly musical and dance programs are also held near the tree during the weeks leading up to Christmas. This movie stars Russell Crowe as British Navy Captain "Lucky Jack" Aubrey and Paul Bettany as ship's surgeon Dr. Stephen Maturin.
