Squidoo : Lenses by OhMe

Do you want to know what I've been up to?
Please check out my latest lenses on
Ohme's Newest Lenses. Thank you!

Ohme is my Grandmother name given to me by my grandson. When he was learning to talk, I was due a knee replacement and had problems standing up holding him in my arms. I would groan with an Ohhhhhhh Meeee as I stood up. He mocked me and we would both laugh. Soon he was saying Ohhhh Meee every time he saw me and laugh. Of course, it stuck and I am glad it did. ...

Sunday School Songs

I loved going to Sunday School and especially enjoyed the Sunday School Songs we sang.

I grew up in the small historic town of Pendleton, South Carolina going to the Pendleton Presbyterian Church back in the 1950's and 1960's. Our teacher was Mrs. Frances Martin and she made our class so much fun as well as educational. I remember the Sword Drills. Mrs. Frances would divide the class into two groups and ask us Bible questions. Most of the questions had to do with the Old Testament stories. She also taught us many songs that I still love to sing today even though I am not blessed with a great singing voice.. These Sunday School Songs bring me such a comforting, safe feeling. I hope we are giving our youth today some songs to hold on to and enjoy for the rest of their lives. This photo is of my mom and me ready for Sunday School in 1958. The photo below is of Pendleton Presbyterian Church, the church we grew up in. The lyrics that I have added here are mostly from memory or from my sister's little green book. You might know different lyrics as some of the songs vary. I have posted a great link to a site that list most of the Sunday School Songs and their lyrics. We usually sang these songs with hand motions so if you don't know the motions, just make them up. It makes it more fun! It would also be meaningful to teach the children the sign language for each of the songs.

After my husband and I married, we joined the Pendleton United Methodist Church and I enjoy the Childrens Ministries and their love of music. This page donates a percentage of it's profits to our Childrens Ministries and to Friends of the Park for our Veterans Park in Pendleton SC..

Ideas for Free Advertising For Fundraising Events

Free Advertising For Fundraising Events is something that many volunteers are looking for. Here are some of the things I have done in the past that cost little or no money.

Have you ever tried to advertise for a Fundraising Event without spending any money? It is possible but requires some creativity along with time and effort. I have been on a good many advertising committees and have learned quite a bit about how to get the word out about an event without spending any money. I would like to share these ideas here and hope that you find them helpful. . Let's face it. The less your money you have to spend organizing your event, the more money you will be able to generate for your cause. The old saying that "you have to spend money to make money" does not always hold true and I can prove it. Take advantage of every opportunity to promote your event. For example, I am promoting my event while making this general lens about advertising your event by using it as an example. Of course, it helps to have a cause that most people believe in. Our community is known for its ability to pull together for it's children and our Veterans Park Ball Fields need a great deal of work so promotion is not very difficult. This is a scroll down web page so please read and scroll until you can scroll no more. Thank you.

I hope these fundraising ideas for non-profit organizations are helpful.

Centerfield, Texas

Centerfield, Texas was founded in 1898 and was known as Twig, Texas until 1978 when the name was changed to honor the town's hero, Antonio Federico Macondo Bustamonte, affectionately known as Buster. Buster played baseball for the Astros and made Twig his home. There was quite a discussion of how to honor Buster but that is a story for another time.

Centerfield is the county seat for Bucko County and lies approximately 50 miles from Houston.

The most exciting event of the year in Centerfield, Texas is the annual Buster Bustamonte Day which includes the famous Barbecue Cook-Off on July 8, 2012.

The Moralist by John Warley

The Moralist by John Warley is a somewhat satirical view of small town America creatively weaving local and National politics with our educational, health and legal systems through the bizarre antics of unique personalities grounded by a bold spoken single mom and spiced with some lip smacking tomato base barbeque sauce that will make you "Slap Your Daddy"!

Now, if you think that was a mouthful, get ready for this fun tongue-in-cheek read by this highly imaginative author, John Warley.

Photo: Amazon - see below to order

I love the cover design by Chris Beatrice

Author John Warley said "I looked for months for someone who could illustrate the image I had in my head of what the cover should look like. Chris nailed it. I told him the pig had to be the smuggest, most self-satisfied possible, and in that regard Chris exceeded my expectations. Also, the idea of the Texas belt buckle was Chris's, and I think that was a fine touch."

Southern Magnolia Tree

All over the South, in the Springtime, you can see and smell the blooming Magnolias and what a site it is to behold! The fragrance is like none other and hard to describe but one whiff this time of year and you will know what I am talking about. The blossoms are beautiful from the time the bud forms until they are in full bloom. These sometimes huge blossoms give a new meaning to the term White on White. Just look at all the shades of white against all the gorgeous shades of green. Isn't it amazing.

Happy Valentine's Day Cards and Gifts

Valentine's Day is a time for us to tell our favorite people how much they mean to us. This can be done by sending a Valentine's Day Card or Gift. It doesn't have to be a big gift but rather just something to let them know how special they are.

I created several Valentine's Day designs and applied them to products on Zazzle, a print on demand store. I hope you will find something you can use as you scroll down this page filled with original designs. I have ordered a variety of items from Zazzle and have always been pleased with the quality of their products. I did learn to order a size larger in the Ladies Tees or to order a Men's size because I like my shirts to be loose rather than fitted. Zazzle is a fun way to create products and each one can be personalized, too.

Happy Valentine's Day to YOU!

He was killed and
lived to tell about it!

90 Minutes In Heaven is his story of spending time in Heaven only to be returned to life to face a long and grueling rehabilitation as well as depression. With the help of good friends, he realized that his purpose was to tell his story and he does so in this very captivating book,

Keep Passwords In An Address Book

I like to keep my Passwords in a special address book that I keep handy but in a safe place. Using an Address Book or something similar makes finding your passwords easy as A, B, C. With your passwords listed alphabetically by tabs, you can flip right to it without wasting a lot of your precious time.

Most of us have accounts all over the internet and want to keep our passwords secure but easily managed. Using an Address Book takes care of both.

Here are a few Address Books, Internet Password Organizers and other products that I have found on Amazon to help you keep up with your many passwords. How many sites are you a member of? Probably more than you realize and trying to remember all the various sites is hard enough much less keeping your user name and password in your head. Using a simple Address Book has been the answer for me. Oh, I know there are many advanced ways of doing this but I know this works. My family knows where I keep it in case something happens to me. I try to keep notes on whether the site may have money due to me, etc.

One of the readers of this page recommends the spiral binding so it will stay open and also make sure that there are plenty of spaces for entries with each letter of the alphabet. Thank you, Olivia, for sharing your thoughts.

Shrimp Boats

Shrimp Boats fascinate me. The horrific Oil Leak of 2010 really had me thinking a lot about the Shrimp Boat and my prayers certainly continue to go out to the shrimpers, their families, and their communities.

I was an adult by the time I actually saw a Shrimp Boat and ever since then I have been so intrigued by them. There is just something mystical about Shrimp Boats and I could watch one for hours as they make their way through the ocean. I was so inspired after the first time I saw one that I painted the picture below.

Would I like to work on a Shrimp Boat or Trawler? I probably would not last one hour but I can certainly enjoy their beauty from the shore and certainly appreciate those who do work on them.

Electronic Banking Monopoly Game

The game of Monopoly has been around since the early 1900's and has been played by a billion people according to Wikipedia. I don't ever remember a time when there wasn't a Monopoly game in our home. When we were kids, we kept a game set up a lot of the time.

Today, there are many editions of the game and my grandson and I recently discovered the Electronic Banking Monopoly Edition which we have found to be a lot of fun. In this version, there isn't a banker with all the colored bills but rather each player has a credit card and all the transactions are handled on the battery operated Credit Card Machine. Don't forget to purchase the batteries to go with this as a gift.

Yes, this game has come a long way! Enjoy playing and learn some new skills or hone old ones. A Family Who Plays Together, Stays Together!

Giving Graduation Gifts can be a dreaded chore or a lot of creative fun!

I remember when I was graduating from high school and college, I wanted people to give me money for my Graduation Gift. I wanted to pick out the things that I needed and wanted. Our children were the same way. They wanted money more than any other gift so they could do what they wanted with it.

I always disliked giving just money as a Graduation Gift because it didn't show much thought or creativity and definitely did not seem personal. Well, I finally figured out a way to give both money and a personal gift and I wanted to share my idea with you.

I only own a set of dark green chargers but would love to get gold ones to go with my fine china. I love the way chargers dress up a table. Actually, I would like chargers in many different colors and shapes.

Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady

Edith Holden's Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady has brought me much pleasure over the last 30 years and I anticipate it continuing to bring me pleasure for many more years. I wanted to share this book with you because it has been so special to me. After reading the book, I saw the china and knew that I wanted it. My sweet husband gave me a set for our Anniversary and one thing led to another. Soon I had re-decorated my whole kitchen in Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady. That was about 30 years ago and I have not gotten tired of it yet. This is my story. I hope you enjoy it and I do appreciate your visit here.

Photo: This Noritake China pattern has been discontinued but each type of piece represents a month from the diary with one of Edith Holden's beautiful watercolors. The dinner plate here is the month of August with the Common Red Poppy, Hare-bell, and Mayweed. Around the rim is a quote that she used in her book by R. Cambe Miller: "Fairest of months! Ripe Summer's Queen The hey-day of the year with robes that gleam with sunny sheen, Sweet August doth appear."

Decorative Balls

The first time that I went to someone's home and saw a beautiful basket of decorative balls, I wondered how in the world someone decided that balls could be used as decoration. I was in The Mercantile, a delightful shop in Pendleton, South Carolina, and asked one of the talented gals if she knew the history of decorating with balls. She started telling me about Temari which I had never heard of. I decided that the Ancient Art of Temari must have influenced the present form of decorating with balls.

Today, you can find Decorative Balls in just about any color and made from wood, ceramics, and natural fibers. They are so unique and look lovely sitting in a basket or bowl either on a table or on a hearth. Christmas Balls are also used in glass containers for Holiday Decorating.

Pendleton - Old Photos

Most of these old photographs of Pendleton SC date to the early 1900's. How did I get these photos? Well, that is a good story.

One day Frank Crenshaw showed me these photos and I asked him if I could get copies made. He told me that Mr. Norton Campbell had found an old camera at the home of Punch Hunter, a long time Pendleton resident who died at the ripe old age of 100 plus years. In the old camera was some film that had never been developed so Norton developed them. Most of these pictures are a result of that. On January 26, 1989 I showed these pictures to one of our then 90 year old residents who grew up in Pendleton, Miss Ruth Boggs. She went through the pictures and told me about each one. It was so interesting. I have several pages of notes and will share her thoughts with you.
Some others came from Clemson University's Strom Thurmond Institute.
Pendleton Tire Co. and Burger King display a few of these in their businesses and there are several people around town that have this set of pictures.
I am telling these stories as they were told to me.
Please feel free to shed some light on any of them. I would love to hear from you in the comments section below.
Update: This lens is a lot of fun as I hear from friends that I haven't heard from in awhile offering to share their old photographs. Thank you, Pendleton, for making this lens a community wide project. Please keep sharing those old pictures and stories! I love it!
Hope you enjoy!
Another Update: Due to length of this site, a Part 2 has been developed. I am still adding pictures and stories so hope you enjoy it as well. Please continue to send me pictures and stories. Photos will still be added to this lens as well so please check back.

The Mimosa Tree

The beautiful Mimosa Tree was probably the first tree that I knew by name. It was a very important tree during my childhood because this was the tree where our tire swing hung. I would spend hours swinging and thinking in that swing or climbing up in it's branches.

Years later, when I went to Jacksonville State University and studied Botany, I learned so much more about it and learned to appreciate this beautiful tree in a whole new light. It was also the name of our yearbook. Of course, all of us who studied Botany called it our "Albizia Julibrissin" instead of just Mimosa.

We have several Mimosa Trees in our back yard and I am enjoying them very much. I look forward to the summer when the Hummingbirds find the blossoms. I am sure they enjoy the Mimosa Tree as much as I do.

Broccoli-Rice-Sausage Casserole Recipe is one that your whole family will love!

We were invited to a "covered dish" one night at a friend's home. She has re-done her old family home place which was built in 1790 and wanted to have her neighbors and friends over. I immediately thought about our family favorite - The Broccoli-Rice-Sausage Casserole. A neighbor-friend gave me the recipe about 30 years ago and all my family enjoys it. The only thing wrong with it is that you mess up a lot of dishes so it is wise to double the recipe and make one for your freezer or just have a day of cooking and make several for your freezer. This is a great casserole to have on hand and can be served as a side dish or the main dish. It can even be served for Brunch or for Dinner.

Step Up To The Plate For Veterans Park in Pendleton SC

These are very difficult economic times
but this is a project that can not be overlooked any longer.
It is time for us to
"Step Up To The Plate".
Together WE CAN make a difference!
The Town of Pendleton, Pendleton Recreation Association and Friends of the Park have joined together in an effort to raise enough money to renovate the first ball field and to erect a Veterans Memorial at the corner of Lebanon Road and Long Road. Once the ball field is turned, memorial pavers will go on sale to pay for the construction of the Veterans Memorial. The cost of making the first ballfield suitable will be approximately $200,000. Once we have half of that money raised, matching grants can be applied for by the Town of Pendleton.

Birth Order - How Did It Affect Me?

Yes, I think that my place in the Birth Order did affect me. I am the third child in a family of four children. I am the youngest of three girls so I was the "baby girl" of the family with a younger brother. We were all four years apart and I often wonder what our birth order has to do with the way we turned out.

Our Dad called us "verses"
and I was the "Third Verse"

I have read a lot over the years about birth order and agree with some of the things I read. I would like to share with you what I think and please keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion. I am not a trained psychologist and don't claim to have the answers. These are merely my observations of how I think my place in the birth order helped to make me who I am. What do you think? Where are you in birth order?

One beautiful Spring morning, I was sitting on my porch listening to the birds sing and I thought about the hymn "Morning Has Broken". This hymn has been an important part of my family as it is sung at joyous occasions like weddings and reunions but also at funerals.

"Morning Has Broken" illustrates new beginnings and as we sing this beautiful hymn written by Eleanor Farjeon, we are reminded how very special each and every day is and to be thankful for it.

In the early 80's when we were much younger and much more energetic, we had an annual Pig Roast at our home. It was always after a big Clemson University Football Game. Our hometown of Pendleton SC is only 4 miles from Clemson University so we are big Clemson Tiger fans.

I have been thinking about those Pig Roasts. They were so much fun and, of course, delicious. In looking back through some of our old photo albums, I found these recipes that I thought I would share.

We haven't had our Pig Roast in many years but are fortunate to be invited to the ones that our friends have and look forward to those every year and the best part is that I don't have to clean up after those. That is one of the perks to getting older, I guess.

Go Tigers! Let's get a little bit rowdy!

Japanese Dogwood Tree

About 16 years ago, a friend of ours gave us a Kousa Tree, also known as a Japanese Dogwood Tree, because I had admired the one in their yard. They are very interesting trees and so much fun to watch. It blooms after our other dogwoods and looks a little different.

In the summer it will form red berries and will be filled with them. I didn't know until I created this lens that you could actually eat these red berries from the Kousa Tree. We have our tree near our fish pond so we enjoy looking at it very often. I wonder if the fish enjoy the berries?

Japanese Dogwoods or Kousa Trees do very well in upstate South Carolina and are popular because they are showy and resistant to the dogwood disease that effects so many of the North American Blooming Dogwoods.

Thank you for visiting this Scroll Down webpage called a lens.

Update Note: Today, April 25, 2011, I am looking out the window in my office and see that our Japanese Dogwood is full of blooms getting ready to open completely. I am making a mental note to take lots more pictures.
I have certainly enjoyed the many visits and comments to this page and have been taught a few things about the Japanese Dogwood at the same time

Flag Day In The USA

Our American Flag, the Stars and Stripes, was first designed and made by Betsy Ross. According to legend, she was asked to do this by George Washington. Our flag was officially adopted by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777 and the flag resolution was passed. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America adopted June 14 as Flag Day in 1907 and it is still a mandatory observance by all Elks Lodges across the United States. It was not until 1949 that Elk Harry S. Truman made the proclamation for June 14 to be a national observance for our nation's flag.
Growing Up In Pendleton SC - Jeanie Sims Hunt

Jeanie Sims was a name that I was familiar with but I really did not get to know Jeanie until recently. She is a couple of years younger than I am but I do remember her during our growing up years. How did we get back in touch? It all began right here with Squidoo. I had a comment from Eugenia Hunt on my Facebook page about my Pendleton Old Photos lens. Jeanie then emailed me from Facebook and explained that she had grown up in Pendleton and was very interested in it's history. I soon realized that she was the same Jeanie Sims whose family had purchased our home in 1963. We had fun from that point, remembering the days of our childhoods. Jeanie is a beautiful writer and singer. As we talked, she told me about a book she had written for her children. It contains her memories and her poetry spanning over thirty years of her life. The more we communicated, the more I realized that Pendleton Memories would make a great lens. This will be the first in a series. If you are interested in sharing your memories of Pendleton, S.C., please let me know. Thank you, Jeanie! The words on this lens are written by Eugenia S Hunt. I just pulled it together for this lens. Hope you enjoy! I sure did. Please continue to scroll down this page to read about Jeanie's memories..

Our Spring Brunch Fundraiser was such a fun success again last year that we voted to have another one this year. I will be posting the new information as soon as it is finalized.

in 2011, we had 18 people as Table Sponsors and they sold tickets at $12.50 to each of the 8 people who sat at their table making each table worth $100. This is an Invitation Only Event. We also sold tickets that day for a drawing with lots of great prizes. I think the men enjoyed this event as much as the ladies. All profits from this event will go toward Veterans Park.

Baseball Card Adventure Series by Dan Gutman

The Baseball Card Adventure Series by Dan Gutman has become a favorite of my 11 year old grandson. I wanted to learn more about them and about the author so decided that making this webpage would not only accomplish that but also give me a place to go and buy him some of these books. He has been checking them out of his school's (Pendleton Elementary School) library but would like to own his own copies and eventually have every book in the series. I think that is a wonderful goal. I strongly encourage his reading and am pleased that he has found books so enjoyable. This series and the Weird School Series are very popular with the young folks and books by Dan Gutman just can't be beat.

As an added feature, this page will donate 100% of it's royalties to my favorite charity, Friends of the Park for Veterans Park in Pendleton, South Carolina. Veterans Park now has 3 ball fields and a very active program for baseball and softball provided by Pendleton Recreation Association. The fields need a lot of work and a fundraising campaign called Step Up To The Plate is working hard to raise funds to renovate these fields and make them more suitable for the children of the Pendleton Area.

Photo by Ohme: Our son loved to play baseball when he was young and he was very good. That was over 25 years ago. This photo was staged using his favorite bat on top of one of his many boxes of baseball cards and then I threw in my grandson's baseballs for added interest.

Author Pat Conroy

Author Pat Conroy is probably one of my most favorite authors. I enjoy reading his novels and also enjoy watching the movies that have been made from them. He has such a gift for writing and it is a joy to read his books. I always seem to get totally absorbed in them and don't want the book to end.

Pat Conroy and over 40 other authors will be at the Savannah Book Festival in February 2012. On Friday, February 17, Pat Conroy will give the Keynote Address and then on Saturday he will join his good friend, John Warley, for a joint presentation where they will talk about their friendship, their writing experiences and their books. They both will be signing autographs following this segment.

Thanksgiving Prayer - A Family Tradition

This page tells the story of one Thanksgiving that my Dad was unable to give the Thanksgiving Blessing and we found a very special Thanksgiving prayer that became a tradition. Prayer is and always has been a very important part of my life and sharing this story is definitely sharing a part of me and my family.
I have always enjoyed Thanksgiving and have many happy memories of our Tate Family on Thanksgiving. There are several special Thanksgivings that I remember very vividly. One was when Mom and Dad invited an older couple to join us explaining that they would be all alone that year. Mom and I made animals for the table out of peanuts and pipe cleaners. We sat them all over the table around her centerpiece which was always a large oval bowl of wax and plastic fruit. We had all given her that fruit over the years. She would also use large wooden spools from the cotton mill for the candle sticks. The fruit that I use in my cornucopia which you will see later in a short video is that same fruit that my Mom used. Yes, I am sentimental.

Asparagus Casserole Recipe

This Easy Asparagus Casserole Recipe is one that my mom used in the 1960s, and I remember how much we all enjoyed it.

Years later when I was single and teaching, I shared an apartment with 3 other gals. We each were responsible for taking a week each month to do the cooking. They always asked me to make my mom's Asparagus Casserole. Then, when I got married, I made it for my husband and found out that the whole family enjoyed it. Little did anyone realize how easy this Asparagus Casserole is to make.

Actually, I don't really know why we have always called it an Asparagus Casserole because it could have just as easily been called a Green Bean Casserole or a Green Pea Casserole. No matter what it is called, it is good or at least we have enjoyed this recipe for the last 50 years. This is now one of my hubby's favorites.

So, this Asparagus Casserole Recipe has been around for a long time! I hope you will try it and enjoy it as much as we do. I realize that it is just opening cans but if it works, it works!

Dogwoods and Azaleas

I do enjoy the beautiful Springtime!

It is so beautiful in Pendleton SC with all the Dogwood Trees and Azaleas in bloom. We live toward the bottom of a hill and as you drive down the hill and get closer to our home, the site of Dogwoods and Azaleas come into view and it takes my breath away everytime. I can't take credit for any of it.

My husband's mother rooted most of the Azaleas back in the late 60's when he build this house. She had several rooting beds in the yard and she worked and worked until she had rooted enough to cover the whole yard. They continue to bring us much joy.

Several years ago I asked the local photographer, Greg Ammons of Ammons Portrait Studio, to come over and take pictures. His were much better than mine, of course. We picked out three that we really liked and had them enlarged and printed on canvas. They cover one whole wall of our dining room so we get to enjoy Spring all year round.

Photos: I took these photos with my Canon Power Shot A560. I have a lot to learn about photography but for right now I just enjoy being able to capture some moments.

The Christmas Cardinal

The Christmas Cardinal has a very special significance and that is the reason that you can find so many Christmas Cardinal Ornaments and Christmas Cardinal Decorations and Christmas Cardinal Gifts.

It is said that the Cardinal became known as the Christmas Bird because of the brilliant red color in the male species. I have heard that hanging a red cardinal in your Christmas Tree would bring good luck to you and your family throughout the coming year. I have read that the Christmas Cardinal is a symbol of hope and that the bright red color symbolizes the blood that Christ shed for our sins. All I know for sure is that the Red Christmas Cardinal looks beautiful on my Christmas Tree.

Our Step Mother used to decorate her tree in nothing but clear lights and cardinals. She had handmade many of the Christmas Cardinals and then some were special gifts that she had treasured over the years. She always said that the Cardinal would bring peace and joy into your home if you had one on your tree. I sure don't want to take any chances so I have several cardinals on my Christmas Tree.

I have selected some of my favorite Christmas Cardinal Ornaments, Christmas Cardinal Cards and Gifts to feature on this page and I hope you will find one that you would like to purchase for a gift or for your very own tree.

President's Day Quiz

George Washington, first President of the United States of America, was born on February 22 and this was a national holiday for many years along with February 12 which was Abraham Lincoln's birthday. So, when I was in school, we had two Presidential holidays in February. It wasn't until the Uniform Holiday Bill in 1968 that they decided to combine those two February birthdays and have one day to recognize these two Presidents. In 1971, President Nixon pushed for the third Monday in February to recognize ALL the Presidents of the United States and so that is what we do today. We celebrate with President's Day!

How much do you know about The Presidents of the United States of America?: When I was young, we had a board game called Meet The Presidents. I loved that game and most of what I know today about the Presidents came from that board game.

Who Are You Calling A Monkey Brain?
Squidoo Headquarters must have some very clever people to come up with the name for this Co-Brand Template using the Duel Module. They say that it is a way for smart people to argue and they say that they really aren't calling you a Monkey Brain but rather just trying to get your attention. It is meant to be for great debates.

Now, some readers might just take offense to being called a "Monkey Brain" even if it is in jest. I think there are at least 3 types of readers that would not appreciate being called a Monkey Brain.

I enjoyed this Fruit Salad Recipe back in the 1970's when I was teaching at Pendleton Elementary School. I found out that it was the standard favorite dish for the teachers during the Teacher Appreciation Celebration. Since that time I have made this wonderful Fruit Salad every summer and shared it with many friends.

I recently made this when my cousin came for a visit and my 9 year old grandson helped me prepare it. He had his own ideas of how it should be layered and how the topping was to be applied. Actually, his method was probably better and it sure did taste great!

Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath is Perfect for Fall Holidays

This gorgeous Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath is made from dried Magnolia Leaves with Turkey and Pheasant Feathers. It would look wonderful hanging over a mantel with the warm fire blazing below. It exudes a feeling of warmth.

This Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath is simple but elegant. It is available in three sizes: 18 inch, 24 inch and 36 inch. You can choose the size that is right for you and your decorating needs. This Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath contains many shades of green and brown with the magnolia leaves, turkey feathers and pheasant feathers.

NOTE: THIS WREATH IS NOW UNAVAILABLE IN ALL THREE SIZES ON AMAZON.COM

I like this Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath because it is so very unique and will last for more than one season. I have a closet where I can store this wreath just by hanging it on the inside of the closet. I will be able to pull it out and use it again and again or at least for four more years.

This Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath is available on Amazon.com by the MasterGardening@Amazon.com and I noticed that MasterGardening has received a 4.8 rating out of a possible 5 which is good enough for me. I read their information posted on Amazon and the reviews and feel that this is a very reputable company. They state that they pride themselves in speedy delivery and 100% customer satisfaction. This is just the kind of information that I like to read when considering a product.

Interesting Note - This lens was created as part of the program for the Pendleton Garden Club meeting on September 1, 2010 at the home of one of the members. Florist Karen Link was the guest speaker and showed the club various ways this wreath could be used in your home. I explained about Squidoo and how we would use the photos and video that I was taking at this meeting. The Club Members were especially impressed with the amount of money that had been donated to Friends of the Park, a Pendleton SC organization dedicated to making our Veterans Park the best it can be. This lens donates 100% to Friends of the Park.

Photo: Fall Turkey Pheasant Dried Magnolia Wreath as seen on Amazon.com.
Update: November 16, 2011 - This Wreath is no longer available on Amazon but hopefully it will give you some ideas of making your own unique Fall Wreath or choose one of the other beautiful fall wreaths available from amazon.

Lensmasters on Squidoo have often written about their pets so I thought it would be fun to have a quiz to see who can quess which pet belongs to who.

Are you ready?

First, there will be 12 featured lensmasters. Then there will be a photo of a pet(s) followed by one Quiz question asking you who this pet belongs to. You will have 5 choices with one being the correct answer. This will be repeated until you have seen all twelve of the pets.

Some of these pet owners have written lenses about their pets and the links to these will be featured below.

Hope you enjoy this lens as much as I have enjoyed creating it. Would you and your pet like to be featured? If so, just let me know in the guest book and I will be contacting you about sending me a picture.

Have fun and Good Luck!
By the Way: This quiz layout was not my original idea. I had seen other lensmasters do this.

Don't miss Squidoo Pets Part Two

Photo - This is our Miss PittyPat so you won't have to guess who owned her. She is an 11 year old English Bulldog who was spoiled rotten Miss PittyPat is no longer with us. We now are the proud owners of Bruno

UPDATE: Since I made this lens, some of these precious pets have passed away so I therefore dedicate this lens to all of those Pets who are no longer with us.

Does Shopping and Selling Online Hurt The Local Economy?

Most of us online are here to make money but what does this do for the local economy? My situation may be different than most because I live in a small community that needs the local businesses to survive. This really concerns me because I love my town and sure don't want to see it become a ghost town. I try to be conscious of what I sell to make sure it isn't something that can be purchased in one of the local shops but that is not always easy to do. I don't know what the solution could be for this problem but it is a problem and I am very interesting in hearing what you think. Thank you for participating in this TwitterStorm.
This is not my first lensography. My first lensography, Ohme, That's Me, was more of a detailed story of my first year Squidoo journey. It was getting rather long so I decided that I needed to stop it at the end of my first year and make this one which will be more concise. Note: A good many of my lenses fall into more than one category so I took the liberty of just choosing one category per lens even though they tend to overlap.

Fall is in the air and we are enjoying the blossoms of our Confederate Rose, Angel Trumpets and Ageratum. Our yard has been neglected lately due to the drought and we did not have our usual beautiful bloomers through the summer but now that fall is here we are enjoying some real beauties. We live in Upstate South Carolina and do not usually have a very harsh winter which means we can enjoy our fall flowers for a little bit longer. We really appreciate this fact and try to plant trees and flowers to give us lots of color during these fall months. Today was a beautiful day to stroll the yard and soak up the beauty. I took my camera along so that I could take you on a stroll. Please join me!

The woven pattern of "silk" is easily seen as the Writing Spider busily works to spin its web but the larger portion of the web may not be that easy to see and you could even walk right into it.

The Writing Spider is not aggressive and is not poisonous to humans but can be a little scary due to it's intimidating size. They can eat insects twice their size and are found all over South Carolina (and other places, too).

I enjoy writing about Nature and have a directory of all my Nature pages so hope you will check out others, too: Nature Pages by Ohme

The Cookie Press

My mother always made Cookie Press Christmas Tree Cookies at Christmastime and I have continued the tradition. It just doesn't feel like Christmas without making them. She also made Cheese Straws using her cookie press.

My oldest sister gave me my first very own Cookie Press when I was in college and I used it for many, many years until it just wore out. I have tried several different types since then and finally found one that I like as much as that first one.

As I have gotten older, I have found it harder and harder to make my hands use the old standard type and never really cared for the electric ones or battery operated ones. That is why I like this Cookie Press the best!

Port-a-Crate Pet Home

On September 3rd we responded to an ad in the paper announcing English Bulldogs for Sale. We called and made an appointment just to go take a look. They had 8 puppies and the daddy looked so much like our old Bruno. We used to breed Bulldogs and old Bruno was our first stud. He was something else and it broke our hearts when he died. He left his family behind (Penny, Miss PittyPat and Bruno Jr). We enjoyed them for many years but over time they had to leave this world, too. On February 23, 2010 our Miss PittyPat passed away leaving us with no dogs for the first time in our married life.

Of course, we connected with this precious Little Bruno almost immediately and he came to join our family that day. We knew that we would need some kind of crate for when it was necessary to leave him home alone. My husband found the Port-a-Crate by Petnation and Little Bruno claimed it instantly. This indoor/outdoor Pet Home is 28 inches long by 20 inches wide and 20 inches high. It just so happened that the bed we had gotten for him on his first day with us fit right inside of this crate. We put his bed and all his toys in it and Little Bruno went right in to play.

Update: Bruno outgrew his crate but still sleeps on the mat. I think it is his security blanket. It is a good thing that it washes so well.

Pendleton Elementary School Memory Garden

The Pendleton Elementary School Memory Garden continues to grow due to the hard work of Parent and School Volunteers and the students at Pendleton Elementary.

In 2006, The Pendleton Elementary School's School Improvement Council (SIC) wanted a project that would honor the memory of faculty and students such as Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Peebles. The Memory Garden was chosen as a project that would do this as well as be used for Educational Purposes and enhance the school atmosphere.
The logo for the Pendleton Elementary School Memory Garden was designed by Corey Watson, Landscape Designer, PES parent and volunteer.
All the profits earned from this Squidoo Lens will be donated to the Pendleton Elementary School Memory Garden. Please continue to scroll down and read this lens and it would be wonderful for you to leave a comment in the Guest Book. Thank you.

Queen Anne's Lace

Every summer my grandson and I have fun cutting Queen Anne's Lace and dying the flower different colors with food coloring. We started doing this when he was a toddler and it has become a tradition that we both look forward to.

He is now 9 years old and I was so afraid that he would think he was too old to do it this year so I had not mentioned it to him. He was the one that told me that it was time for us to cut our Queen Anne's Lace. I was so thrilled that he still wanted to do it.

Of course, over the years the enjoyment for him has taken on new meanings. I remember the first year that he started mixing the colors to make different colors. This year it was more of a study of the process.

I hope we can continue this tradition for many more years.

Update My grandson is now 12 yrs old. I wonder if he will do this with me again this year? I sure hope so.

Sherri Buck Baldwin's beautiful Birds and Blossoms Calendars are something that I enjoy every day of the year thanks to my cousin who gives me one every Christmas. I love birds and flowers and no one paints them like Artist Sherri Buck Baldwin. See the one pictured here? This is the one that my dear cousin sent to me last year for Christmas. I have really enjoyed it.

I keep my calendar on a stool in front of my rocker on the back porch and every morning I sit with my coffee and look over the plans for the day which I have written in my calendar. Throughout the day I find myself sitting in my rocker and just enjoying the picture of the month. Her colors are so soothing and while on my porch, I can hear our birds singing their sweet songs as I enjoy the nature art of Sherri Buck Baldwin. Her subjects are in her own yard in Wisconsin but I can easily visualize them in my yard.

Purchasing a product from this page will benefit Veterans Park in Pendleton SC because 100% of the profits earned on this page will be automatically donated to Friends of the Park, a Squidoo Supported Charity.

Order now while they are still available. Thank you.

Oh My! I just received my new calendar from my cousin and it is so beautiful. Thank you, Cuzin Conse! I do think these calendars by Artist Sherri Buck Baldwin get more beautiful every year.

Pendleton United Methodist Church enjoys our Annual Church Picnic held every summer! I first created this page after one of our picnics several years ago. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, the attendance was great and the fellowship time was wonderful. Children were seen playing in Barrett's Place Playground and on a vacant field. Adults visited and prepared the food and the tables. One by one families arrived with their covered dishes and chairs. It was a festive day and we are looking forward to repeating the fun time at this year's event. Unfortunately, I had to miss the next one so didn't get pictures but hope I will make the one this summer.

Golf Carts Aren't Just For Golfers

Golf Carts are just nice to have around especially if you are a senior citizen or have problems walking long distances.
Golf Carts can be used to help you with your Garden or Yard Work by not only allowing you great transportation but also for hauling those heavy bags of soil or fertilizer. How about riding down to your garden to pick your vegetables and then having the golf cart to carry them back to the house? Yes, a golf cart is a great garden companion. A golf cart for home use is something that you might want to consider.
Ride around your neighborhood and visit with neighbors in your golf cart. You can even take a friend for a ride.
Golf Carts are seen more and more off the golf course so whether you are a golfer or not, you might want to invest in this wonderful mode of transportation.

Photo: We purchased this used golf cart about 9 years ago and have really enjoyed it. Besides using it to get around in the yard and neighborhood, it is nice to have for an entry into the local Christmas Parades. This old Golf Cart has really been around!

Girts and Gospel 2012 will be April 21 at the Pendleton Community Center. More details will be posted closer to time.

The first ever Grits and Gospel in Pendleton South Carolina was sponsored by Pendleton Pride In Motion, a non profit community organization. Pendleton Pride In Motion partnered with Clemson University's Community Health Promotion Class (HLTH 480). This event was held at the Historic Silver Springs Baptist Church in Pendleton on April 23, 2011 from 10 to 12. It was a big success with wonderful entertainment, delicious food, excellent tours and some good ole fashion fellowship time.

This event was a fundraiser for the Mission of Pendleton Pride In Motion to provide for a "Healthier" Pendleton including the sponsorship of a South Carolina Bronze Marker for "The Hundreds" recognizing African American Heritage in Pendleton and continuation of the PPIM $1,000 "Quality of Life" Scholarship to a deserving PHS Senior. Approximately $1,500 was raised and PPIM appreciated all those who helped and all those who purchased tickets to attend.

We needed help so we decided to hire a dog trainer and we are sure glad we did. A friend of mine recommended Earl Preeper so I gave him a call. Earl Preeper of Alpha-Dog Training is a Master Trainer and helped all three of us: My husband, Bruno and myself.

We all learned a lot from Earl but I think the main thing we learned was how to use the skills that Bruno had already learned to encourage good behavior. Bruno is a good dog but is full of energy and a bit much for us to handle at times. We are all still a "work in progress" but have come a long way.

Growing Up in Pendleton SC in 1950's and 60's

Pendleton SC Town Council woman Sandra Gantt was asked to speak to the Leadership Pendleton Class of 2009. She was asked to tell how it was to grow up Pendleton. I was so glad that I was able to hear Sandra's talk. She was so interesting and enlightening. I asked Sandra if she would share her memories as part of this series I was doing on Squidoo. Sandra was kind enough to give her consent and share some wonderful photos as well as her speech.

Thank you, Sandra for sharing your story with us.

Note: This is a scroll down web page so please read and scroll and continue until you can no longer scroll.

Sandra Gantt's last Town Council meeting was November 7, 2011. A reception was given in honor of her 14 years of serving on the council. See pictures below. Sandra was also honored to be the Official Christmas Tree Lighter as well as the Grand Marshall for the Christmas Parade in 2011.

Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe

This is really an Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe and it is so delicious. A great treat for fall weather.

When our Friends of the Park organization had our Annual Fall Maintenance Day at Barrett's Place Playground, one of the volunteers arrived with a dish of hot Apple Dumplings. They were sure a wonderful treat on a chilly morning and were a big hit with all the volunteers especially my husband. He mentioned them several times after that morning so I finally emailed my friend for the recipe. She gladly shared the recipe with me and now with her permission, I am sharing it with you.

Thank you, Joan Kelly! I had never heard of cooking with Mountain Dew but it sure is good!

So, if the Apples are available, think about trying this delicious recipe!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by here and check out my latest work.

Limelight Hydrangea Or Is It?

The Hydrangea Pictures on this page were taken in our yard in Pendleton, South Carolina. I really am not sure what variety we have. Let me tell you about it and maybe you can help me decide.

It was over 30 years ago when my husband and I visited his aunt and uncle in Laurens South Carolina and I first saw a Limelight Hydrangea in full bloom. "Uncle Jamie" called it a Mountain Hydrangea so that is what I have always called it until I began making this lens and found out that it is actually a Limelight Hydrangea, I think.

It was love at first sight so "Uncle Jamie" broke off two sticks that looked like dead branches and told me to take them home and put them in water and forget about them until spring. I did exactly what he told me and was so shocked when springtime came and I had two sticks with roots everywhere. I couldn't wait to get them in the ground and they have continued to grow and bring much pleasure to us all of these years.

Whatever it is, we sure have enjoyed it.

Could you help me decide once and for all the name of our Hydrangea?

Meet Bruno the Third, Our English Bulldog

On September 3, 2010 our lives changed.

We used to breed English Bulldogs and raised 4 to adulthood: Bruno, Penny, Pittypat and Bruno II. We had all 4 for many years and enjoyed them very much. Miss Pittypat left this world in February 2010 and was the last of our bulldogs. We missed them terribly and occasionally talked about getting another one someday.

We read an ad in the paper about 8 bulldog pups for sale in a town close by. My husband suggested that I call and ask if we could come take a look. I knew what that meant! The time was right and we were ready for another dog.

They had eight beautiful pups with both parents on site. My husband was immediately attracted to one little pup in particular. It surprised me because this one was almost solid white with just a few fawn markings and our other bulldogs were mostly fawn with only a little white.

Please continue to scroll and watch Bruno grow and become a very important member of our family. He is so big and actually looks more like an American Bulldog than an English and we love him dearly! Bruno has graduated Puppy School at PetSmart and has also graduated Alpha Dog Training.

Easter Event In Pendleton SC

We Sure Have FUN
In PendleTON!

The historic Village Green in Pendleton SC has been the site of many an Old Fashioned Easter Egg Hunt and the tradition was last held on March 28, 2010 from 2 to 5 pm. It began with an Easter Parade which was small this year due to the threat of rain but that didn't hold back the approximately 300 participants who were ready to hunt and participate in the games, relays and crafts with lots of prizes and goodies.

In 2010, the event was sponsored by Friends of the Park and organized by Pendleton High School's Environmental Awareness Club. There was a small charge for the games and crafts that almost covered the expenses by Friends of the Park. The Environmental Awareness Club donated the proceeds from the Bake Sale to the Anderson County Animal Shelter.

The rain held off until after the event and a lot of children showed up to enjoy the afternoon! Thank you to the many volunteers and donors who made this day possible.

NOTE: AS OF APRIL 12, 2011 NO ONE HAS VOLUNTEERED TO ORGANIZE THIS EVENT. PLEASE CALL TOWN HALL IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
TOWN OF PENDLETON WEBSITE
Phone 864-646-9409
We did not have the Easter Egg Hunt on the village green in 2011 because no one could organize it. Please call Town Hall if you are interested in being the sponsor of this event for 2012. It would be so wonderful to have this event again.

Easter 2012 is April 8 which is the same weekend as Spring Jubilee so surely there will be an Egg Hunt. I will keep you posted as soon as I get the word.

Greeting Cards and more For Fun And For Profit!

I enjoy making my own greeting cards and did it before the age of computers. Now I have lots of fun learning new ways to make them. One of my favorite things to do is to swap heads using clip art and a picture of the person I am making the card for. I have a program that let's you do a few of them but I always wanted to do more and different ones so finally figured out how to do it. I think people enjoy receiving their very own personalized greeting card, don't you? I am going to show some of the cards, invitations and signs that I have done. I have covered names and other information to protect the innocent. NOTE: When I began this lens, I was just intending on showing cards, signs, and invitations that I did for fun or for non profit groups. Since then I have joined Zazzle and Cafe Press, print on demand companies, and am making merchandise from my original artwork and photographs. If the particular item is not showing as a Zazzle or Cafe Press product, it is because I used clip art from Microsoft Home Publishing or Picture It. These items can not be sold due to copyright. I am enjoying selling my Zazzle and Cafe Press Products. Thank you.

1826 On The Green In Pendleton SC

One of the finest restaurants in Pendleton South Carolina is 1826 On The Green. The Farmers Hall with it's majestic columns is the home to 1826 On The Green, a wonderful restaurant where friends can meet for lunch or couples can enjoy a romantic dinner.

The Farmers Hall has been referred to as Pendleton SC's Front Porch. I really like that term and think that it is so appropriate because, when you enter our beautiful town square, the Farmers Hall is the first thing you see.

NOTE: 1826 On The Green has been sold to Barbara and Pete Rizzo of the Village Baker. A lot of the menu items will stay the same but new items will be added. Please check back as this page is updated. Thank you.

Here is a note from Barbara:

We will be closed from Friday 12/23/11 through New Years' day and will reopen on Jan 5, 2012 at 11:30 am for lunch. I am planning some great specials for January. They will be posted before reopening next week so check us out. It will be delicious, low cal, and light on your wallet - everything you will be looking for in the new year.
Hope to see you soon,
Happy New Year,

The Brothers Four

The Brothers Four sang some of the best Folk Music and their music is still very clear in my head. I will catch myself going over the words and singing to myself many of the songs were that on the album shown here. This album was one of the few albums our family possessed during the early 1960's.

Our dad was transferred in 1963 and we moved from Pendleton SC to Scottsboro Ala. The first few weeks, we didn't know many other kids so we entertained ourselves listening to some of our favorite music and singing along. The Big Folk Hits The Brothers Four Album was one that was played over and over again.

When I started writing this, I remembered that I still had this old album so climbed up on a step stool to see if I could find it on the top shelf of a bookcase cabinet that contains boxes of old toys and books. Sure enough, it was there and fortunately I immediately spied it in the stack of old records. It felt good to hold this old album filled with fond memories of family.

The "Step Up To The Plate" Golf Challenge scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2011 was sponsored by Pendleton Recreation Association, a non-profit organization that organizes the youth sports program at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC. Pendleton Recreation Association has contracted with the company, Golf, For Goodness Sake, to run this event.

Step Up To The Plate is the collaborative effort of Pendleton Recreation Association, Friends of the Park and the Town of Pendleton to raise money to renovate the ball fields and to erect a Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park located on Lebanon Road in Pendleton SC. A goal of $50,000 was set by the committee but at that time we were hoping for 18 teams and only ended up with 12 teams. These 12 teams consisting of 3 to 4 players and their caddies (fundraising helpers) worked hard to net over $20,000.

Special thanks to each of the golfers who worked hard to raise this money, to each of our 64 Hole Sponsors and Event Sponsors, to everyone who donated to this great cause, and to the Pendleton Recreation Association who put this event on.

South Carolina State Symbols and More

South Carolina is my home and I am proud of it. I wanted to make this lens for several reasons.

First, our grandson was in the third grade at the time and South Carolina children learn about their state then. I was in the third grade at Pendleton Elementary School in 1956. The picture is the text book we used. My brother was 4 years younger and the book was discontinued when he was in the third grade and that is how I happen to have a copy of it. It is signed by the librarian, Mrs. John Allen. Don't worry, I did not get my information for this lens out of this text.

The second reason is that my sister and I have a Squidoo South Carolina Group for South Carolina lensmasters and lenses about South Carolina and I wanted to feature some of our group member's excellent lenses. I also featured lenses from other lensmasters who are not in the South Carolina Group.

The third reason is that I love to promote my hometown of Pendleton, SC and have made several lenses about our town. I thought it would only be appropriate to also make a lens about our beautiful state. I hope this can be your guide to facts about the beautiful state of South Carolina, my home!

Do you know the South Carolina Symbols?<!-- wysiwyg -->

Pet Talk

We have always had Pets and have always enjoyed them.

At the time of this writing, we have a bulldog named Pitty Pat, a bird named Henrietta, a turtle named Billy, two calico cats named Mott and Fran, and lots of fish. I think that is plenty of pets so was not particularly thrilled when a stray kitten showed up about this time last year. She was a pretty little white kitten with one blue eye and one green eye.

We kept thinking that she would find her way back to where she belonged but days passed and months passed and she was still here. Our other cats were not very fond of her but we had no choice but to feed her (or at least that is what I thought). We talked about the need to take her to the vet to get her fixed but on the days that we were ready to do it, we couldn't catch her.

All of a sudden it seemed that she was getting bigger and bigger. Yes, she was pregnant and made a home for her 3 kittens and herself under our house. It is cool under there is the summer and warm in the winter so it was a good choice but it was a couple of weeks before we actually saw the kittens: two orange tabbys and one solid white just like the mommy.

My Grandson and I went around taking pictures of our pets asking them what they were thinking at the time. What do you think they said?

At this time we have a 11/2 year old Bulldog named Bruno. You can read more about him on http://www.squidoo.com/meet-bruno. Henrietta is still around but still not talking. Billie has gone to live in the creek. Pittypat and Mott have both passed away. Fran is still around catching moles and chipmunks but is showing her age.

Pet Owners Should Leave Their Pets At Home I am a Pet Owner and love Pets but I would never take one of mine to an event. I realize that not everyone loves pets and that some people are very afraid of dogs. I also realize that dogs can be unpredictable no matter how well behaved he/she is.

I submit Press Releases for several outdoor events in our town and always state "No Pets Allowed" but it is not always printed the way I submit it. Therefore, a pet owner should always call an official person to find out if pets are allowed unless it specifically states that it is a Pet Friendly Event.

Halloween Trunk or Treating

Every Halloween, our church sponsors "Trunk or Treating" in Pendleton, SC. The volunteers ask church members to bring their cars to the church with their trunks decorated so the children can come by and get their treats out of the trunk. It is open to everyone and the children come in costume as do many of their parents. It seems to get bigger and better every year. There are really some creative people out there and it is amazing what they can come up with to make the trunk of a car look inviting. NOTE: Profits from this lens are donated to Pendleton United Methodist Church Childrens Ministries

Update: Unfortunately, I had to miss Trunk or Treat this year butI heard that it was a big success!

Stornoway Scotland - Our Sister City

My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to join friends in being part of the 36 member Pendleton Delegation to go to Stornoway Scotland for the official signing of the twinning charter.

On March 15, 2002 we joined the delegation of 36 Pendletonians to travel to Pendleton's Sister City in the Western Isles of Scotland. We boarded the bus at Pendleton Town Hall where we were given a Goodie Bag decorated with red, white and blue ribbon. As we pulled out of the parking lot, we were surprised to realize that the Police Cars and Fire Truck were there to escort us out of town. With sirens going, we made two laps around the Village Green waving goodbye to merchants, shoppers and friends who were waiving American Flags. We headed to the Atlanta Airport and this began a journey that we will never forget.

I put together a scrap book and would like to share it with you on this scroll down web page called a Squidoo Lens. Please continue to scroll and let me tell you about this wonderful trip. I sure appreciate your visiting and hope you enjoy it. You will need to give this page time to completely load because there are a lot of pictures. Thank you.

Doggie Birthday Party

Squidoo has lots and lots of lenses on just about any subject you can think of. Some are meant to educate, some are meant to entertain and some are just beautiful to look at. There are even lenses about interesting personal happenings. This is such a lens.

Unfortunately, every word of this story is true. In September of 1993 I got the bright idea to have a Birthday Party for our dogs, Bill Murray, the Boston Terrier and Kandi, the standard daschund that belonged to our grown children. We were all old enough to know better but we got wrapped up in the excitement of the moment and before long we had it all planned. We sent out invitations to 4 dogs who were pets of friends of ours:
Jackson the Jack Russell
Brandy the Shih-tzu
ChiChi the Peek-a-Pooh
Jamie the Pomeranian

Note: This story is told with permission from my good friend, Sue.

This lens was reviewed by MiMi aka GrowWear in her Squidoo Lens Reviews and I am so proud to wear this badge. Just click the badge to read the review. Thank you, MiMi

It was a fun day at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC on October 29, 2011. A group of energetic, creative alumni of the Pendleton High School Lady Bulldogs Softball Teams Stepped Up To The Plate and worked hard to raise money for the renovation of the ball fields at Veterans Park. Most of these women remember practicing on these fields when they played for Pendleton High School and they have fond memories of those days gone by. They wanted to do their part to make sure that future generations will be able to enjoy the park as much as they did.

Continue to scroll and learn more about Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend sponsored by Friends of the Park. This was an Alumni Softball Fundraising Event withCraft Vendors, Food Vendors, Games for the Kids, Dunking Booth, and more.

This event raised over $,1,000 for our Step Up To The Plate Fundraising Campaign

Pendleton Memories 3 - Nell Seawright Reeves

Nell Seawright Reeves shares her memories of growing up in Pendleton South Carolina in the 1920's and 1930's. I had a delightful afternoon today visiting with Nell Reeves and her daughter. We sat on the porch and I thought about taking notes but was really too busy listening and enjoying to get much on paper. That is one reason that I am so glad that Nell is a very talented writer. She had her story written down already because she was one of the local residents asked to speak to the Leadership Pendleton Class of 2009. Nell has agreed to be a part of our Pendleton Memories Series and is allowing me to post her speech here. Thank you, Nell for sharing your story.
Top Ten Reasons Why I Love Pendleton, South Carolina

I have written a lot about my hometown of Pendleton South Carolina and it is mainly because I want the whole world to know what a wonderful place it is. Now, I am not encouraging everyone to move here but would love to have you come for a visit. You see, I don't want my small historic hometown to become a huge metropolis but I do want it to thrive. So a few of you reading this are welcome to come settle here and purchase one of the lovely homes for sale. You will be treated with a southern hospitality like you have never known. For everyone else, I invite you to come for a visit, enjoy our history, happenings and hospitality along with our quaint shops and restaurants. I think you will be glad you did. Photo: Several years ago I had the honor of having a plaque with my name on it placed on a bench on the Village Green for my volunteer work. I have my own bench on the village green. Pretty neat, huh! So, why do I think Pendleton South Carolina is the best place to live. Here are my Top Ten reasons (not in any particular order)!

I was able to snap some pictures that I would like to share with you along with a poem by Helen Baeseman titled "Autumn Glory". I found this poem in one of my Mom's 1968 Ideals Magazines. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Fall Season as much as I am. Thank you for visiting with me today! We used to make Homemade Peach Ice Cream on special occasions but haven't made it in so long that I am not even sure where our churn is. Back before the electric churns, we would all take turns turning the crank. It was hard work but well worth all the effort.

My hubby, Papa Doc, makes the best Peach Ice Cream and I am going to share his special recipe with you here. Let me know how it turns out. Yummy!

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is, without a doubt, the best book that I have read in a long time. It took Laura Hillenbrand seven years to complete this amazing story about the life of Veteran Louis Zamperini who went from being a juvenile delinquent to an Olympic running star to a POW to an alcoholic to an inspirational speaker. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as you relive the life of Louis Zamperini with him.

Crunchy Hawaiian Chicken Wrap

The Crunchy Hawaiian Chicken Wrap is a recipe by Chef Lorett Hayes of 1826 On The Green Restaurant in historic Pendleton, South Carolina. Chef Hayes was asked to be a member of the Recipes for Healthy Kids Challenge Team from Mt. Lebanon Elementary School. She joined the school nutrition specialists, students, community members and parents to form this team that had the responsibility to come up with their entry for the Recipes for Healthy Kids Challenge.

The Crunchy Hawaiian Chicken Wrap was one of the 15 Semi-finalist across the nation and we need your vote.

Update: October 23, 2011 - Chef Lorett Hayes has now sold the restaurant 1826 On The Green to Pete and Barbara Rizzo who also own the Village Baker.

Our little historic town of Pendleton SC is busy with many Christmas Events. Although I have a Squidoo page which includes the Pendleton Happenings, I felt that I needed to make a separate page just for the Christmas Season.
Through the years, this time of the year in Pendleton has been known as Christmastime In Olde Pendleton and also Holidays In The Village. It all begins the week after Thanksgiving with the Tree Lighting Ceremony and continues until Christmas.
Pendleton is a wonderful destination for your Christmas Shopping and Dining and we invite you to join us in a beautiful relaxing atmosphere where the Spirit of Christmas abounds. Let's all try very hard to support our local businesses!
Thinking about the Holidays in Pendleton inspired me to write the little poem below.

Lego Sets For All Ages

Legos have sure come a long way. My grandson played with them when he was younger and now that he is 9 years old, he is actually building and creating with them. They come in different shapes and sizes now and there are even specialized sets. They are really amazing and are so beneficial to the child no matter what the age.

I wanted some of the larger ones which are called Duplo Blocks to take this picture for the introduction. I decided to call the local PreSchool called PEEPS and ask if I could borrow some for a little while. It was so funny. I went to pick them up at Pendleton United Methodist Church and one little boy got very concerned that I might not bring them back. All the children were watching as I picked out a few and then another little one insisted that I could not take the Duplo Wagon because he was going to play with it.

Yes, Lego Sets are fun for children, teenagers, and adults and make wonderful gifts.

This is a directory for the Pendleton Memories Series. I hope you will visit each one because they are so different and offer much in learning about Days Gone By.

I started this series as a way for certain folks to post their memories on the web and preserve them. These fine people and I hope that if you grew up in Pendleton South Carolina, you will want to join us and we welcome you with open arms.

I think this might make a great Coffee Table Book for local residents. What do you think?

Betsy Johnson, Curator for Pendleton District Commission, shared these words:

These memories are a precious resource that can provide a picture of our town for future generations. With the permission of the writers, hard copies of the Pendleton Memories Series will be donated to the Pendleton District Commission's Local History Archives. The Pendleton District Commission will preserve these stories and make them available for those wishing to learn more about our town.

The mission of the Pendleton District Commission is to collect, preserve and promote the rich history of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties and to promote economic development through tourism in the region. For more information, please visit our web site: Pendleton District Commission Website

South Carolina is my home and Squidoo is my passion! Joan4 and I realized that we were not the only South Carolinians on Squidoo so we decided to form a group in order to get all South Carolina Lensmasters and Lenses together. Our South Carolina Group is made up of lensmasters from the great state of South Carolina and also lenses that have something to do with our state. This combination has made an excellent group of over 300 quality lenses and each of these lenses are featured on our South Carolina Group. We invite you to read this lens and learn about our group and we hope you will visit ourSouth Carolina Group and see for yourself what we are talking about.

Even though the Groups on Squidoo no longer exist, we have kept our group going and invite all South Carolinians to join us!

Ohme - That's me!

I have been called lots of things during my 60 plus years. My dad would sometimes call me "third verse" and my mom would call me "Nancy Lee" and my sisters call me "Nan". In college I was called by my maiden name, "Tate". When I was teaching and coaching, I was called "Coach". I am known as "Mrs. Doc", "Doc's wife","Will's Mom", "Susann's Mom", "Tate's Grandmother", Mom, Aunt Nancy, Cuzin Nancy, Miss Nancy, Fancy Nancy and of course, just plain Nancy. I have a friend who calls me "Sarge". Several years ago I started being called "D--- Nancy" around town. I was in a volunteer leadership position and always felt that the best trait for a leader is to be able to delegate. I guess I was doing too much delegating that year. (No, the D.... is not for "Dear Nancy"!) Yes, that is a lot of names and these are just some of the ones that I know about. I can't imagine what names I am called behind my back. Gosh, I hope they are nice ones. Of all the names that I am called, Ohme is by far my favorite. Ohme is my grandmother name that was given to me by our only Grandchild, Tate. He was learning to talk about the same time that I was due a knee replacement. I kept him while our daughter was at work and it was so hard for me to get up from a sitting position with him in my arms so I would moan and say "Ohhhhhhhh me" and Tate started mocking me. We both said it so much that it stuck as my name. He is now almost 9 years old and I am still Ohme to not only him but his friends as well. I do love my name. I am extremely blessed with a wonderful family and lots of great friends. I am Ohme and this is my lensography but only for the first year of my adventures on Squidoo. I have another complete lensography at http://www.squidoo.com/ohme-lensography.

Friends of the Park Directory

Friends of the Park is a group of dedicated citizens interested in making Veterans Park the best it can be. We meet once a month except in November and December. We meet the 3rd Monday in each month at 6:30 at Pendleton United Methodist Church.

Friends of the Park is so proud and appreciative to be a Squidoo Supported Charity! It has meant a lot to us and we are so touched by the lensmasters from all over the world who choose to donate a percentage of their royalties to our small non profit organization. Each of these lensmasters are making a difference and I hope that they enjoy a feeling of ownership of our little park.

Veterans Park is located on Lebanon Road in Pendleton SC and has 3 Picnic Shelters, a Community Built Playground called Barrett's Place, a walking trail called Trotter's Trail, a Concessions Pavilion, and 3 baseball fields. These baseball field are in dire need of upgrading, therefore Friends of the Park, Pendleton Recreation Association and the Town of Pendleton have joined together in a fundraising effort called "STEP UP TO THE PLATE"! The money raised for these fields will also be used to erect a Veterans Memorial which is needed at our Veterans Park.

This is a Directory of all my Squidoo lenses relating to Friends of the Park. All of the lenses featured here donate 100% to Friends of the Park. There are others that donate 100% and then the rest of my lenses all donate at least 10% to our great cause.

Children's Author, Kate Salley Palmer

I remember the first time I met Kate Salley Palmer. It was in the early 70's and we had a mutual friend. Both of these women were way ahead of the times and my friend told me about Kate's talents.

The early 70's were very much still a transitional time for the American woman. The term "balancing family and job" were practically unheard of. I consider Kate to be one of the pioneers for all women in America who want to pursue their dreams. Kate doesn't consider herself to be a pioneer. She says, If I had been working in a city up North, no one would have thought a thing about it by the 1970's. Things were still difficult for women in the workplace back then, but the pioneers were the women who entered the workforce before my time.

Kate Salley Palmer is married to Jim Palmer. Jim is from my hometown of Pendleton SC and was a high school friend of my sister, Joan aka Joan4 on Squidoo. The Palmers live in nearby Clemson, SC and have two grown children. Salley is Kate's maiden name so she is usually just called "Kate" but referred to professionally as "Kate Salley Palmer".

When Kate isn't writing or drawing, she is speaking to school children around South Carolina. Their son, James, is also an illustrator and writer. They have their own Publishing Company called Warbranch Press. Please visit their main website for more information.

I am proud to introduce to you the talented Palmer Family.

Enjoy The Simple Things In Life!

Make a wish on a Dandelion and blow it to the wind.
Make a necklace with a yellow Dandelion and dance away.
What other plant can bring so much joy to young ones on a summer's day?
It is just an old weed but it is so much more
Bringing pleasure to many while others abhor
Dandelion, I thank you for being you
and reminding me to
Enjoy the simple things in life.
And forgetting the troubles and strife.

Hen Mulligan is a family tradition in our household every Christmas Eve and we all look forward to it.

Doc's mother used to make Hen Mulligan when he was small so he learned how to make it from her. We don't even try to sit down together on Christmas Eve. It is every man for himself after the presents are opened. We do try to have a sit down meal in the dining room sometime before Christmas Eve but when Christmas Eve arrives we are all too excited and anxious to get on with the gifts and then eat whenever we are ready.

Xylitol In Sugarless Gum Is Poisonous To Dogs

Xylitol found in Sugarless Gum could kill your dog even though it is safe for humans. Please read this warning as it may save your dog's life!

Xylitol is a Sugar Substitute most commonly used in Toothpastes, Mouthwashes, and Sugarless Gum as well as some Sugarless Candies.
It can Kill Your Dog!

Since hearing about Xylitol, we will not let our grandson bring Sugarless Gum into our house and have advised him not to bring it into his own home because of his dog. The U.S. Poison Control Center reports, that dogs poisoned by xylitol is up 142 percent since 2005 and is said to now be the number one cause of death by poison in dogs.

Our Bruno is still a puppy and he wants to eat anything he can find. Hearing the news about Xylitol really scared us and we now watch much more carefully what he is eating or chewing on. People spit out their gum all the time so BEWARE!

Squidoo is free and fairly simple to execute and easy to keep updated. It has been the perfect platform and I have noticed a good many other Squidoo lensmasters using it the same way.

Do you have a lens (Squidoo scroll down web page) about a Festival, Fair or Special Event? If you have created a lens about a special event, I would like for you to add it to the plexo below. I have added two plexos: one for general Festival information and one for specific events.

Reflections Of A Mississippi Magnolia - A Life In Poems is written by a true Southerner, Patricia Neely-Dorsey. She writes passionately about growing up in the South, her love for her home state of Mississippi and her life after 40. Her poetry is sincere, real, and warm. They just feel good to read and sure makes this reader feel mighty proud to be a Southerner. Of course, you do not have to be from the South to appreciate Patricia's poetry. Her flowing words are a joy for everyone to read.
Patricia Neely-Dorsey writes in the preface of her book that she always hesitates to call herself a poet. She says
"I feel more like a vessel or a conduit through which the poems flow. I never intentionally sat down to write any of them. They all came to me, fully complete and neatly packaged, title and all"

We are fortunate to have lots of different colored Camellia Shrubs and we enjoy them very much. I love to cut them and have arrangements throughout our home. I remember one year they actually bloomed in December which is not the norm. They usually bloom in early spring but this was a particularly warm winter. We were having a big Christmas Party so I cut and cut and had tons of the beautiful blossoms to decorate with. I filled a long planter on our porch with them just by sticking the stems in the existing soil. Everyone was amazed and it was a beautiful site even if I do say so myself!

It is such fun to see so many varieties of Camellias and I just had to share with my readers. Hope you enjoy!

Fushigi Ball

The art of Contact Juggling is not new but the Fushigi Ball is. There seems to be some controversy going on here with the sport of Contact Juggling and some competition between the Juggling Balls and the Fushigi Balls. Either way, they are fascinating and if you aren't familiar with them, I hope you will learn more here. The Fushigi Gravity Ball is having a successful marketing campaign as I have heard not only my grandson but other young kids talk about wanting one. Contact Jugglers seem to be taking two sides on the issue: Some are glad of the extra publicity to their sport while others resent that Fushigi appears to give the impression that their company invented the idea.

Contact Juggling is juggling without letting go of the ball but giving the illusion that the ball is suspended in midair - this is the description that I came up with after doing a lot of reading on the subject.
The following is the description given on Wikipedia: Contact Juggling on Wikipedia:

Contact juggling is a form of object manipulation that focuses on the movement of objects such as balls in contact with the body. Although often used with "toss" juggling, it typically involves the rolling of one or more balls on the hands and arms to create visual illusions without releasing the props into the air. It is divided into three main techniques:

1. Body Rolling means manipulating one or more props (usually balls) around the hands, arms, and body. Balance is required to hold the ball in various positions of control. This includes tricks such as headrolling and the Butterfly.
2. Palm Spinning means manipulating two or more balls in the open hand so that at least one ball is in motion. Balls may be in both hands or transferred between hands to form graceful and fluid patterns, including rotating a pyramid stack of 4 balls.
3. Isolation means manipulating a ball so that it appears to be suspended in place. Similar to sleight of hand magic or fixed-point mime techniques; the performers exploit the clear surface of the ball to hide any noticeable rotation, creating the effect that the ball is still while the performer moves around the ball.

Read on and decide for yourself.

Trotter's Trail at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC is a beautiful 1400 foot long walking trail that winds through the woods adjacent to Barrett's Place Playground. This asphalt trail is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair and includes a beautiful bridge and entrance as well as benches in various locations. Landscaping will continue with plans to include many dogwood trees.
Trotter's Trail became a project of the Friends of the Park organization in 2006 and is certainly an asset to the park and to the Town of Pendleton. Trotter's Trail was made possible through the efforts of many volunteers and donors who worked very hard to make this trail become a reality.
The Trail was dedicated on November 14, 2009 in memory of Justin Trotter. Justin's love of nature inspired friends and family to honor his memory with this trail. Justin was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 12 while a student at Riverside Middle School in Pendleton South Carolina. In September 2004 Justin lost his battle with the disease at the young age of 15.

Fox Carolina Town Takeover in Pendleton SC

Seven in the morning is mighty early to expect an enthusiastic crowd but that is exactly what Fox Carolina got when they came to Pendleton SC on November 11, 2010 for the Fox Carolina Town Takeover. The weather was perfect and excitement filled the air as the crowd gathered carrying signs supporting their school or organization and most importantly, our Veterans.

It was a day for Pendleton to shine live before a TV audience and shine we did!

Fox Carolina's Town Takeover Series has been a big hit as they choose different towns to be the site of their early Thursday morning show. Toccoa, Georgia was the one before Pendleton and Spartanburg, SC will be the next one. Co-Anchors Margaret Burnquist and Cody Alcorn make the Town Takeover so much fun for everyone!

Special thanks to everyone who shared their pictures for this lens.

It sure would be fun for Fox Carolina to return to Pendleton!

Rock City

SEE ROCK CITY are words that you may have seen a lot. These words have been written for many years on roof tops, barns, and even bird houses. The founder of Rock City Gardens, Garnet Carter, was a born promoter and according to the Rock City Website by the 1950's Clark Byers had painted "See Rock City" on 900 barn roofs from Michigan to Texas.

ROCK CITY atop Lookout Mountain in Tennessee was open to the public in 1932 after Garnet Carter's wife, Frieda, had forged the trail with only a string to mark her spot through the wilderness and giant rock formations. She planted wildflowers and added statues along this trail. She was fascinated by folklore, fairy tales, fairies and gnomes so had statues of this nature imported from Germany.

When the attraction first opened, business was slow so Garnet hired a young sign painter named Clark Beyers to go travel the nation's highways asking farmers if he could paint their barn if they would let him paint the words "SEE ROCK CITY" on the roof. His advertising idea really paid off and soon people were traveling from all around to SEE ROCK CITY.

Over the years there have been many additions and added features to make it even a better sightseeing destination. It is now under the leadership of Bill Chapin, a third-generation descendant of Garnet and Frieda.

Oh, and it is PET FRIENDLY. How about that!

Rocket Mom Lenses by Ohme

I had already decided that Squidoo would have to take a back seat during the months of May and June because I had so much to do to get ready for our Freedom Fest on June 27, 2009. Well, that all changed when I received an invitation to join Rocket Moms.

Even then, I vowed that I would just try to do the best I could but had no intentions of making a lot more lenses. The timing could not have been worse for me but I really wanted to be a part of this group led by Bonnie and was so proud to have been asked. I don't know what happened from that point because before I knew it I was more involved than I ever intended and I was putting out new lenses like there was no tomorrow. All it took was a visit or two to the forum and the enthusiasm of these fantastic women was contagious. I did not have a chance.

I don't think I have felt this challenged since I was in college. I have learned new things, met some great lensmasters, read some amazing lenses, and have published 10 lenses in 6 weeks. That is a record for me. But then why should I expect any less of myself -
I am a Rocket Mom and proud of it!

Note: I would strongly recommend Rocket Moms to any Newbie who happens to be a Mom!

Christmas Pillows and Throws

I don't think you can have too many Christmas Pillows or Christmas Throws. They make decorating easy and add much to the warmth of your home. These beautiful Christmas Pillows and Christmas Throws also make great gifts.

Wouldn't a holiday pillow and throw be a great gift for someone in the nursing home or assisted living? Not only would they look festive but they would also be great conversation pieces. I don't know of any age that wouldn't enjoy a Christmas Pillow or Christmas Throw. A child can snuggle and dream of Christmas morning in a Santa Throw. Maybe you or someone you know lives in a small apartment and doesn't do much decorating. This would create a holiday atmosphere in any room with very little effort.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas Pillows and Christmas Throws and I hope you find one that you would like to purchase through this page. All purchases benefit Pendleton SC's Veterans Park by donating a percentage of the profits on this lens to Friends of the Park.

Adults enjoy finding surprises in their Christmas Stockings, too! I know our Adult Children expect to see their Stockings filled with fun stuff and also things that they need and that are useful. It does require some creativity to find just the right items and not spend a fortune. I decided to help you out with this task by offering some suggestions. I hope you find something that you like to fill an Adult Christmas Stocking whether it is for your spouse or your grown children or maybe a special friend.

United States Census 2010

Did you realize that the results of the 2010 United States Census determines how much money will go to your state and your community? Did you realize that the money spent to pay Census Takers reduces that amount? Therefore, the sooner we return our Census Form, the more money our State and Community will receive. Let's spread the word for everyone to get their US Census form mailed today if they have not already done so.

Returning our United States Census forms before April 1, 2010, Census Day, will mean more money for our schools, hospitals, roads, and more. Every year, the federal government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data.

If you live in the United States of America, you should have received your United States Census 2010 form during the month of March and this form is to be completed and returned before Census Day, April 1, 2010. If you fail to return your completed Census form, a Census taker will visit your household to take a count in person. It is only 10 Questions

Participation isn't just important-it's mandatory.

The information on this page is from the official 2010 Census Website as well as promotional handouts. Please visit the official website for more information.

IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE A FORM IN THE MAIL, YOU CAN PICK ONE UP AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN YOUR AREA. IN PENDLETON SC, YOU MAY PICK ONE UP AT THE PENDLETON BRANCH LIBRARY

Haven't yet filled out your Census form, you still have a couple of weeks left. You can still be counted after April 1 so please mail your form in today!
Forms are due April 16 so there is still time to help improve our performance before census takers begin going door to door.

Check the Official Website for Results The United States 2010 Census has a lot of participation and our community really was great about filling out their forms. Our next Census will be 2020!

I enjoy writing about nature and using the nature photos I've taken. I am not sure when I began to appreciate Mother Nature but I think I was very young. We had a lot of exposure to the wonders of the out of doors through our little church in Pendleton SC. Our minister during the 50's was quite the naturalist and we learned so much from him. I have also learned that my grandmother loved flowers and gardening. I never knew her but I imagine that some of that has been passed down to me. I knew my other grandmother and she also was a gardener and I remember her beautiful Zinnias and other flowers. This is my Nature Lensography that I hope will grow and grow like my garden.
Pendleton Goes Squidoo

This is a directory of internet sites where you can find information about the quaint, historic town in upstate South Carolina - Pendleton SC

I'm a SAPP (Self Appointed Pendleton Promoter)!

My sister, Joan4, made the first Squidoo lens about our hometown of Pendleton SC and I have followed with many more. I love to promote Pendleton and am continuing to make lenses about Happenings, Events, and History in Pendleton. I needed one place where I could list these Pendleton lenses for my readers. Therefore, this page will be a directory or lensography of all the Pendleton SC lenses. I also have written other lenses on a variety of subjects and they sometimes include information about Pendleton but will only include the ones directly related to Pendleton here. You are invited to view all of them and they are listed at the bottom of this page.

The Squidoo Lensmasters from all over the world have been so nice about visiting my Pendleton lenses and have commented that Pendleton is the "Mayberry of Squidoo". I realize that they probably get tired of me talking about Pendleton but then Pendleton probably gets tired of me talking about Squidoo.

Here is some information for readers who are not a member of Squidoo. I hope it will help you to understand what Squidoo is all about and how to easily enjoy your read.

What is Squidoo?
Squidoo is free platform where anyone can write about things they are passionate about. It is possible to make money on Squidoo as well as contribute to many charitable organizations.

What is a Lens?
I describe a lens as a mini scroll down web page. It is different from a website in that a website has tabs to go deeper into the site instead of scrolling down on a lens. You will find "featured lenses" or "featured links" that you can click to get further information.

Besides the Squidoo lenses, I also have 3 blogs which feed into the different lenses and will list them here as well. I also have 2 shops: one on Zazzle and one on Cafe Press which I will include here.

In this case, all the Pendleton lenses will be featured so just click on the one that you would like to visit.

Thank you for visiting here and I hope you enjoy Pendleton On Squidoo!

Ohme's Niche Directory

Websters Dictionary describes a Niche as a specialized market or an activity for which a person is especially suited for. Therefore, I think a Niche must be something that a person is passionate about and I have many Niches.

This page is an organized grouping of some of the lenses or pages (articles) that I have created on Squidoo. On Squidoo, a Lensography is a page featuring all of a lensmaster's lenses or a lensmaster can create Themed Lensographies which my Niche lensographies would be considered.

The purpose of grouping my lenses in this way will help me be more a more organized lensmaster. Grouping like pages makes it easy to update as I try to update and find the pages you are looking for.

Do you create Niche Directories or Lensographies? Tell me about yours in my Guestbook below!

A Christmas Tree in the White House by Gary Hines

This book for children is based on true facts about one Christmas in the White House with President Theodore Roosevelt and his children. The children wanted a cut Christmas tree for the White House but President Roosevelt insisted that they set an example for America and not kill a living tree but save the trees for the future. Since President Roosevelt was so active in Conservation, he felt this was of the utmost importance and refused to agree with the children's request until he learned better. Two of his sons sneaked out of the White House during the night and cut a tree that they put up in their bedroom and hid in their closet. When their dad found it, he grabbed up both boys and headed to the home of his friend, Gifford Pinchot. Gifford Pinchot was the first trained forester and was the first chief of the U.S. Forest Service. President Roosevelt was expecting his friend to teach the boys a good lesson but instead he explained to them that sometimes it is good to take out a live tree in order that the smaller trees get more sunlight and more room to grow. President Roosevelt never did allow a big cut tree in the house for Christmas but they celebrated that year with the small one in the boys room. President Roosevelt and Gillford Pinchot were responsible for setting aside millions of acres of forested land for future use and protection.

There are so many wonderful charities to choose from. Now, I think that is fantastic, don't you?

So, what lensmasters are creating lenses for their favorite charities? I know that I am creating some for Friends of the Park and this is one of them. I thought it would be fun to feature all the charities, lensmasters and lenses on this page so please let me know if you are participating.

The Lenses in the contest need nominations because the more they have, the more likely it is that they will win.
Be Sure To Use The New Nomination Form for this contest Sunshine Award Nomination Form
You will need to have the following information:
Lensmasters Name
Lens URL
Charity
and Write a little something about why you are nominating a lens.
Anyone can nominate!

Edisto Island, South Carolina

We have been visiting Edisto Island and Beach in Beautiful South Carolina for well over 30 years and continue to make some very special memories there. In fact, my husband and I stayed at Edisto on our honeymoon 33 years ago.

If you are looking for a place to vacation with a lot of commercialism, then Edisto is NOT the place for you. This is a beautiful Island with a gorgeous beach and very little commercialism. It is a great place for a family vacation or a vacation with friends.

If you are looking for a peaceful place with beautiful scenery, great fishing, golf, and more; then Edisto IS the right place for you!

Recipes by Ohme? Anyone who knows me might think that this is a joke. You see, my hubby is the cook in the family and I gladly step aside and let him do his thing. He is an excellent cook!

There are a few dishes that I do well so I have created these lenses featuring those recipes along as some from my husband. I will be adding to this Recipe Lensography as time goes on.

I hope you enjoy this scroll down web page with the links to all of Ohme's Recipes. There is also a place where you can add your Recipe Lenses.

Meet Janet Baughman

I take great pleasure in introducing you to Janet Baughman, author of The Mandy Series.

Recently, I was asked to speak to the Keenagers Group at the First Baptist Church of Pendleton SC about Pendleton. Naturally, I wanted to show them some of my Pendleton Pages on Squidoo. The Keenagers took the Pendleton Quiz and looked through the Pendleton Old Photos. After my talk, several people came by to discuss different pictures or facts about Pendleton and one of those people just happened to be Janet Baughman. I told her how much I had enjoyed reading her books and giving them as gifts. One thing led to another and Janet was kind enough to agree to this page about her and her wonderful books. The Mandy Books take place in our little town of Pendleton SC. These inspirational books are fiction but are based on historic facts. Reading them made me feel like I had traveled back to the 1800's and living the rich history of Pendleton SC. Janet did much of research at the Pendleton District Commission in the Old Hunter's Store.

So, without further ado, I present Janet Baughman, Author of The Mandy Series.

Note: A special thanks to Phyllis Boykin for asking me to speak to the Keenagers Group and to Frank Breazeale for handling the computer and big screen so I could show my Pendleton pages.

Our Florida Vacation

My husband decided to take a whole week off of work and we enjoyed a week long Florida Vacation. This was something that we had not done in several years.

We knew that we wanted to visit my husband's sister and her family in Englewood, Florida and that we wanted to take our precious 9 year old grandson - better known by us as the "sweetest child in all the world". We also wanted to take him to Sea World.

So, the planning began. I remembered that I had read some very informative Disney lenses by EverythingMouse aka Alison Meacham so emailing her for advice was the first thing on my list.

What Does Your Family Think Of Your Love For Squidoo?

If you are like me, you have become obsessed with Squidoo. I find myself talking more and more about my activities on Squidoo and my new Squidoo friends. I am afraid that my family and friends are getting quite bored with this. They don't understand why I haven't got the time to do the things I used to do but when you sit at the computer just about all day, there is little time for anything or anyone else.

Squidoo is very addictive, isn't it? What do your family and friends think?

Jolly Judicious Jetsetters on Zazzle

The Jolly Judicious Jetsetter's better known as the JJJ's is one of the Squidoo Teams for the Potential Giant/Giant100 Challenge. The JJJ's can now wear their badge not only on their profile but also on their bodies and on their coffee mugs and on their mousepads. Yes, the JJJ's can wear their badge with pride because products are now available on Zazzle.

This challenge is over and was a lot of fun. Although the JJJ's did not win, we considered ourselves winners because of all the great lenses that were created during this time.

Here's to remembering our JJJ's!<!-- wysiwyg -->

Hope you enjoy these Hydrangea Pictures taken around our yard. I am not sure about the names of our Hydrangeas but maybe you can help me. Just let me know what you think the various varieties are that we have in our yard.

Peace Sign Jewelry

Peace Sign Jewelry is back again and very popular.

I remember my first Peace Sign Necklace and it had such special meaning for me. I was a child of the 60's and a "wanna be hippie". My boyfriend at the time was a soldier in Viet Nam so I was not a part of the Anti-War Movement. I didn't do drugs and looking back, I guess I was pretty sheltered but I did like the Flower Child look and liked to think of myself as a Free Spirit. I had long stringy hair and wore frayed jeans with moccasins which was hard for my oldest sister to understand. She was the typical 50's child and didn't understand why I would want to go around looking like a Hippie. One Christmas, she surprised me with a Pewter Peace Sign Necklace and it was her way of saying that she accepted me for who I was. It meant so much to me.

Here, you will find other Peace Sign Gifts and Gift ideas with Peace Sign Earrings, Peace Sign Pennant, Peace Sign Bracelet, Peace Sign Charms and more.

Can I Rate 10,000 Lenses in 3 years on Squidoo?

Happy Birthday to me! That's right, my 3rd Squidoo birthday is coming up. I joined Squidoo on July 18, 2008 and have thoroughly enjoyed being a Squidoo Lensmaster. One thing I enjoy is being a part of such a wonderful online community. I try to be an active lensmaster by visiting at least 5 lenses a day and sometimes more.

I have set a goal for myself to rate 10,000 lenses by the time my 3rd Squidoo Birthday arrives. Do you think I can do it? I know there are other lensmasters who have visited and rated more than 10,000 lenses and I would like to feature them here so please let me know in my guestbook.

I MADE IT!

I realized that I had written quite a lot about Pets and wanted to have a place where they were listed all together. This is what is known as a Pet Lensography. I hope to be adding more and more Pet Lenses.

Thank you for visiting my Pet Directory and I hope you see another lens listed here that you would like to visit.

I do love the Spring of the year but only realized how much I actually write about Spring on Squidoo so thought it might be time for a Springtime Lensography. A Lensography is a directory of list of lenses (web pages on Squidoo) and can be a complete lensography or one that is grouping similar subjects together.

I sincerely hope that you can find a link on this page that sounds interesting to you and you will click that link and continue reading.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Spring!

Our Bruno has definite ideas of what he wants for Christmas. He wants another toy. He has lots of toys but he still wants another one.

There are other things that Bruno needs but he won't be getting them for gifts. He will be getting them at some point whether he wants them or not. After all, Personal Hygiene is important in dogs but these items don't make fun presents and Bruno deserves a fun present.

What is your dog getting for Christmas? You might want to take Bruno's advice and give a Toy!
