Like most people, I was first exposed to Jeri Ryan in Star Trek Voyager. And like most people my first reaction was a resounding... Wow!!! As her role progressed, it was very dificult not to amend that to: Wow!! She sure is talented! Nothing I have seen her do since has changed that opinion. This is one talented, as well as beautiful actress. I expect that one day soon we will start to see more of her on the big screen as well. Enjoy!
Blog Commenting For Backlinks

With all of the hype about backlinks on web 2.0 profile sites and backlink automotion suites, it is easy to forget one of the best ways out there to get backlinks...

Posting comments on blogs.

To be honest, I sometimes get so engrossed in my latest automated toy, or in writing and posting articles through Content Crooner that I forget how important this practice is to overall backlinking strategy.

Frankly, putting this lens together is an exercise in reminding myself that I should NEVER leave this behind. And it really isn't something we should automate either. You just give up too much in the way of quality of comments, as well as being able to cherry pick the blogs commented on.

Sit back with a cup of coffee and peruse this lens carefully. It'll be a pretty simple one but packed with good information.

The exhilarating Skylane.

Sure. You could fly a Skylane for all kinds of rational, cognitive reasons: like an exceptional blend of speed, range, safety, capability, price and cost of ownership. But why not just strap in, fire up all 230 horses and trust your gut instead? You'll soon realize why the Skylane is the four-passenger aircraft chosen by more pilots as their personal favorite aircraft than any other.

It seems that Eckhart Tolle is everywhere you look these days. At the top of the bestseller list, here on Squidoo and yes on Oprah too.

The weekly Webclasses are an amazing tool to expose what Eckhart Tolle has to teach. You will find each weeks classes here, and should find them to be as enlightening as I do.

It is truly amazing what Eckhart Tolle has to offer and what there is to learn from him. His new books add to the basis of "The Power of Now" and can take your understanding and enlightenment to new levels if you just agree to take the ride...

Take some time and explore what there is here and I think you will be pleased.

Unlike many actresses this easy on the eyes, Kim Basinger has built a body of work that anyone would be proud of. I particularly like her work in John Irving's The Door In The Floor.

Hopefully this lens will remind you of what you already enjoyed about her, and maybe showed you a thing or two that you didn't...

Barack Obama And The Fabian Society - Is Obama a Socialist?

There is suddenly an interest in who and what the Fabian Society is, and how it may or may not affect the policies and principles of Barack Obama in his role as President of the United States.

There is a lack of interest in outside philosophies in the US today that I find worrisome. It is frequently useful to examine the thoughts of others to clarify our own thoughts. Sometimes this will help to find flaws or holes in our own logic.

IMHO it is the sign of a small and closed mind to dismiss the thoughts and concerns of others out of hand and without seriously considering the merits of another's point of view.

This is in no way an endorsement of the principles of the Fabian Society, but hopefully will serve as an introduction into their core principles and beliefs.

'Nuff said! Read on...

It's been quite a while since we've had Bloom County gracing our newspaper comics pages. (and no, I don't count Outland as a viable substitute)

The counterpoints of Milo and Binkley, Steve Dallas and Cutter John...

It all added up to be nothing like I'd ever seen in comics before. The political statements didn't take themselves to seriously. And the cultural stabs hit right at the heart of our own foibles in a funny but sometimes unsettlingly accurate way.

Milo, Binkley, Opus the Penguin, Bill the Cat, Steve Dallas, Oliver Wendell Jones, Lola Granola and that little Cockroach dude:

The populace of Bloom County.

God I miss them...

The Last Waltz

Thanksgiving Day 1976 at Winterland in San Francisco the rock group known simply as The Band called it a day after 16 years on the road. The concert was filmed by Martin Scorcese and the resulting movie is The Last Waltz. Arguably the best concert movie of all time.

Their career together took them from Ronnie Hawkins backup band, to playing on their own at Woodstock to longtime collaboration with Bob Dylan.

For a group that many still are unaware of, their critical acclaim was only surpassed by the respect that other musicians held for them. This was evident by the quality of folks that showed up in the city by the bay to help them put it to bed.

For my money this is the only mega concert that matters. Everything else is just an imitation. The LiveAids, FarmAids and all the rest can only wish their soundtracks had the gems found on each and every track of The Last Waltz.

Admittedly, my musical tastes are heavily represented by the people singing and playing here, so I am not exactly unbiased...

Even now, almost 30 years later, it all still holds up. Watch the videos and tell me I'm wrong!

Enjoy!

Genepax - Water Powered Fuel Cell Vehicle

This is the type of innovation that should be going on here in the US if we ever hope to fix our economy and it's dependence on foreign oil. And while, yes it may prove out that the hype about this particular vehicle by Genepax is way more than it deserves. at least these folks are in the ballgame!

Why is no one talking about ending our dependence on any oil instead of just foreign oil?

Anyone can see that the handwriting is on the wall, and that a major overhaul must take place. And it must take place immediately.

A vehicle powered by a renewable resource would be a welcome addition to the effort to change the status quo.

Rant over.

Enjoy!

Easy Squeeze Pages

Squeeze Pages have become a staple in internet marketing and it doesn't look like they are going anyplace soon!

At it's most basic, a squeeze page is any webpage with a relatively small or short message accompanied by a call to action like an opt-in box or in some cases even a Buy It Now button.

Recently more and more of these are Video Squeeze Pages where the short message is in the form of a video embedded to one side of the page, or sometimes even above the call to action.

During the past year I've noticed a trend toward much longer videos, and refinements such as delaying the appearance of the call to action item. These kinds of changes in the basic Squeeze Page formula don't really change the fact the at heart, most of these types of webpages are relatively simple, and extremely effective ways to market your own, or affiliate products and services.

Putting this type of page together has been something that many marketers wish they had access to in a quick and easy fashion, and there are some great products out there with templates. These are sometimes way too niche specific, needlessly complicated, or just plain expensive.

On this page I'll be showing you a very simple to use, easily customizable Squeeze Page creation tool that goes for just $7!!

Bruce Springsteen - The Promise

Darkness On The Edge Of Town was the first Bruce Springsteen album I purchased. It was unlike anything I'd heard before, and while some of it took a few listens to really "get", I was hooked, and had to go find more by this scraggly lookin' guy on the cover.

From there I picked up Born To Run, and like so many others my interest turned quickly into an obsession. And while there have been high impact moments on just about every Springsteen album (and then CD) since, for me there is still nothing quite like the experience of listening to Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

Evidently I'm not alone in this, as the newest offering from Bruce & the E Street Band is a DVD/CD set titled The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story.

There were ten songs on the Darkness album:

Badlands
Adam Raised A Cain
Something In The Night
Candy's Room
Racing In The Street
The Promised Land
Factory
Streets Of Fire
Prove It All Night
Darkness On the Edge Of Town

And as strong as each of these songs are, it is quite a shock to find out that these were culled from an initial list of better than seventy songs that Springsteen brought into the studio when they set out to make this album.

Watch the videos here for a preview of the interviews and the music that you will get when you finally get to see the DVD and listen to the CDs that make up this box set. I know I will be grabbing this one fast!

Piper 6x

The Piper Aircraft Company has come up with a new version of the PA-32 called the Piper 6x and it is having great success on the market. This is a great aircraft for those unpaved runways in Africa, Australia, and South America. Many runways are not paved in those areas and this is a plane that can handle those situations.

You also don't need a long runway for the Piper 6x because it can handle the 2,100 foot strips with room to spare. This is a plane that is easy to handle and fun to pilot. It has a wonderful 300 horsepower engine for those special needs. The Piper 6x can carry big loads at good speeds for any destination. It does not care where it lands. It likes hard strips and soft fields. With the Piper 6x you can carry 1,400 pounds of cargo with its stretched version of the Warrior wing. It can take on 102 gallons of fuel. It has six seats for company or extra space for cargo -- the choice is yours.

Professional pilots as well as recreational pilots are going to love the feel of this plane for any occasion. The service ceiling is listed at 17,200 feet. The beauty about the Piper 6x is that it can fly through clouds and turbulence with a minimum of discomfort for pilot and passengers. The cruising speed is around 140 knots. It will be right at home in the air and rough weather conditions. It has more speed, climbs a little quicker, and offers more fuel for greater range than any of its competition in its class. It is at the top of the class against other planes in its price range.

The owner of this plane is buying a first class airplane that has the latest technology in the industry. The base price for the Piper 6x is $365,000. That is going to buy you a reasonably equipped plane. There are some great packages of equipment that you can add on if you want to go to the "top of the line". Under those conditions you are looking at $500,000.

With a plane like this you can take friends and family anywhere in "style" at 140 knots. If you are looking for a top-rated airplane with first class accommodations the Piper 6x is the airplane you should be considering. You can see photos and complete details on this plane on our website (link is below). Make the Piper 6x your home in the sky!

Premium Wordpress Themes

I've been working online for the past ten years or so doing various things including affiliate marketing, SEO work and here and there setting up a site, webpage or even a Squidoo Lens for a client.

Every step of the way I've had to pick up skillsets to accommodate clients or to achieve goals in my own business. None of these skillsets has been as useful or as all encompassing as those I acquired when I started using Wordpress. And and not just to build not just blogs, but static websites, salespages, squeezepages and all manner of other projects became easier as well.

I have friends that really like Drupal and Joomla, but when I compare functionality, I can't help but smile and come right back to Wordpress...

This lens will be about Wordpress Themes, and as such will be more about appearance, but the theme you choose frequently aids or hinders your functionality as well, so look closely and choose wisely when setting up your blog, website or whatever.

While we are specifically talking about Premium Wordpress Themes, you can frequently get a ton of these themes at no cost whatsoever, or just for subscribing to a newsletter or joining a free membership site. Great themes are where you find them. And I have found them in the usual places, and the seldom visited corners of the internet.

More than glad to share what I've found...

Okay, maybe not the most original idea but a great one nonetheless...

Remember the great CD celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Band's farewell concert The Last Waltz?

Well I loved that one, and after my first listen, this is better!!

Don't take my word for it, listen to the tracks below and if you are a Dylan fan at all, you will be blown away...

Ezine Articles For Backlinks

It is hardly a secret that EzineArticles.com is the preeminent article directory on the internet today. Google gives them more SEO juice than any other directory, and the sheer volume of articles posted there keeps the Google spiders on their site nearly continuously.

In spite of this, many people are put off by the rules you have to abide by and the time it takes to get an article approved and so they move on to other venues. Now I'm not saying that it isn't a challenge at time to jump through their hoops, but I will say that since Google is going to give them this much juice, that it is worth the aggravation to post your articles there.

As a matter of fact, EZA is the first site I post a new article to.

On the other hand, there are ways to utilize the EZA site that are far easier and will still give you backlinks!

EzineArticles.com is a great site with hefty PR and tons of eyes looking the content over. The articles posted there get indexed quickly and rank well in the SERPs. So instead of whining about them, let's take a few minutes and see how we can make the most of the opportunities EZA presents.

Warren Zevon was one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Even people that have never heard his name are at least passingly familiar with several of his songs. With a writing and performing career that spanned decades, his work was eclectic, and had a sometimes bizarre twist to it. The new horn players add a ton. We'll all miss Leroi Moore and the spirit he brought to DMB but the musicianship of these two DMB newcomers is a joy to watch and listen to.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I have the many times I've listened to it.

*I will be adding videos as I get them completed until I have the entire concert posted here.

Avery Brooks

The illustrious and multi-talented Avery Brooks first came to national attention (or at least mine) playing Hawk in the series Spenser For Hire. The series was based on the (still) best-selling books by Robert B Parker, and the part seemed custom made for Mr Brooks. His performances in that role were inspired. The role has been played by others in a few cable-tv movies, but the two actors that had the job of following up on Avery's portrayal never had a chance. Not their fault! The bar was already way too high... Avery Brooks also played this role in a spinoff that only lasted a season. This show was titled: A Man Called Hawk. The other role that Mr Brooks is widely known for is that of Benjamin Sisko of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. For some reason, this show never achieved the status and following of the other Star Trek franchises, which is a shame. For my money it was the most original in plot, writing and scope, not to mention the excellent acting on the part of the cast and the wonderful character development of none other than Mr Brooks himself. If you check the timeline between these two projects you find a rather large gap, which is good! As Avery Brooks truly is a Renaissance Man on the order of Paul Robeson. Check out the YouTube videos below and you will find one where he is reading an excerpt from Ossie Davis' Purlie Victorious which showcases his amazing voice and amazing emotional range. This man is a national treasure, and should be appreciated by all... Jim P

2011 MS70 Chinese Silver Panda Coin

The Chinese Silver Pandas are here with a new and
unique design for 2011.

A favorite of children and adults alike, the Chinese Silver
Panda coins display unique and fresh designs each
year, keeping their popularity high among enthusiastic
collectors. The 2011 coin features a young panda cub
nuzzling its mother in a bamboo field. The design on the
obverse of the coin, which stays the same each year,
displays the "Temple of Heaven."

Designed with extraordinary detail, these lovely coins
are fascinating to hold and behold. It comes as no
surprise that these beautiful Silver Pandas continue to
be regarded as some of the most prized silver coins in
the world.

Devotion to the tiniest detail and painstaking craftsman-
ship are the hallmarks of these scrupulously minted
coins. Such dedication is evidenced by the almost
lifelike imagery of these beloved bears.

Struck in one Troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver, each coin
is a large 40mm diameter.

Always highly sought after because of the yearly design
changes, supplies of the 2010 Silver Panda were
exhausted by the tremendous consumer demand for
them. The expectations for this year indicate that the
demand will be even greater.

Numis is making these coins very affordable. Always a
great gift for young and old alike, they also make a
wonderful addition to your personal collection.

Denomination: 10 Yuan
Weight: 31.1g
Diameter: 40mm
Thickness: 2.98mm
Purity: .999 Pure Silver

Few things are more central to our health and well-being than a safe and secure food supply.

More and more people are turning to organically grown foods in their quest for that supply. You would think that this demand would fuel the markets to create more of these products and expand organic farming practices, and yet we find that organic farmers are under attack at every turn by the large multinational agribusiness corporations producing GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) Crops.

Chief among these is Monsanto which now controls about 94% of the US corn crop and over 70% of US soybeans.

They have pretty much had things their own way up to this point, but that is quickly changing. In large part due to increased public awareness and pressure both politically and legally applied in attempts to stem the tide of these so-called Franken-Foods.

Read on and find out why countries all over the world are banning these crops and in many cases kicking Monsanto out of their countries entirely!

Try to listen to the music of Cat Stevens and not be just uproariously glad to be alive! I know that I can't. And the message in his music is so positive... Just amazing stuff. He is, of course also one of the more prominent people to have converted to Islam and therefore gets a great deal of heat with the current state of affairs in the world today. Personally I think it's all a bunch of bull. What I do know is this: There isn't another artist out there of any religion that can write and perform music that is consistently positive in message, and full of an absolute love of life and all of God's creation than Cat Stevens. On the other hand I could be wrong, and the heavily slanted right-wing media may be right. Frankly I could care less. IMHO most of the popular musicians of the last 100 years or so couldn't have had their morals, beliefs and/or lifestyles scrutinized without something objectionable being discovered. So I present this lens in the spirit of Cat's music from my youth. Enjoy the music, the memories and the pure joy of a simpler time... Jim

How To Build An Autoblog Linkwheel

The number one problem website owners have with SEO tasks is finding the time to actually do them!

I am no different, I run about 20 blogs at all time, and am responsible for more than that additionally for clients, so it is no surprise that I automate as much of this process as possible.

I've been using a couple of great Wordpress plugins to do this for some time now that get great results. I will discuss those late in this lens as well, but I mention them mostly because they really got me thinking about other ways that I could automate my SEO efforts not just for me, but for my clients as well..

This all assumes that you are using Wordpress for your main site, but you can use this Autoblog Linkwheel to automate the SEO for any site with an RSS feed with a regular stream of new content.

Then as I started to see more and more services offering to set up Autoblogs for people I started to get some ideas about them as SEO tools as opposed to just being the central or "moneysite" that was being offered. But at a going rate of $197-$397 per Autoblog setup it didn't seem cost effective, so I started looking into setting them up myself.

So read on for some very easy to follow instructions on how to set up your own network of Autoblogs. And it just makes sense to set them up in a Linkwheel formation to get the most bang for your buck.

But first let's talk about those other two plugins I mentioned as they will be useful with your Autoblogs as well...

The concept of Manifesting What You Want In Life is not exactly a rare topic these days. With the proliferation of LOA websites, blogs, coaches and seminars it's a testament to the topics importance that a saturation point is not even on the horizon...

The fact is that many, if not most are still experiencing major difficulties in accomplishing the task of Manifesting What They Want In Life or even in understanding what this really means, or perhaps Manifesting does NOT mean...

Who better to clear up the misunderstandings and point people in the correct Manifesting direction than Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra. The 13 part series you find here can effect such drastic changes in your own understanding that you will find it not just possible, but likely that you can also Manifest What You Want In Life.

This page will attempt to put forth the various aspects of this unfortunate case involving the Pastor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Bishop Eddie Long.

Long is accused of coercing 4 young boys into performing sexual acts. The case has garnered national attention at least in part due to the size of the congregation of this "MegaChurch" in the Atlanta, Georgia area. The church, set on a campus east of Atlanta, runs a global network of ministries and businesses. It hosted the funeral in 2006 of civil rights leader Coretta Scott King and has a congregation numbering over 25,000 members.

Van Morrison - Hymns To The Silence

I happened across this album while searching YouTube for the Last Waltz version of Van singing Tura Lura Lura with The Band.

I was just floored by the sheer emotional impact of the work, as well as the depth of musicianship and vocal style Van displayed back in 1991 when this came out. He was obviously already a legend several times over, but there is something so immediate an moving about these tracks that I had never heard before, or expect to again.

If you think you know Van's work, take a good long listen and Hymns To The Silence will explode in your heart and soul...

Here are the tracks:

1. Professional Jealousy
2. I'm Not Feeling It Anymore
3. Ordinary Life
4. Some Peace Of Mind
5. So Complicated
6. I Can't Stop Loving You
7. Why Must I Always Explain
8. Village Idiot
9. See Me Through Part II (Just A Closer Walk With Thee)
10. Take Me Back
11. By His Grace
12. All Saints Day
13. Hymns To The Silence
14. On Hyndford Street
15. Be Thou My Vision
16. Carrying A Torch
17. Green Mansions
18. Pagan Streams
19. Quality Street
20. It Must Be You
21. I Need Your Kind Of Loving

I've pulled together as many of these tracks as I could from YouTube, and hope to find the last couple from other video sharing sites in the next few days. WIll go ahead and publish this now for your enjoyment...

WP Lapdance - Wordpress Exit Pop Plugin

That guy in the pic is Devon Brown, the guy behind WP Lapdance, the new Exit Pop plugin for Wordpress blogs and websites.

This is such a great idea, to take a method that is getting used so effectively by so many marketers and turn it into a first rate plugin for Wordpress, the most versative blogging and content management system online today!

One of the things I've liked best about Wordpress is the fact that there are so many plugins that turn long coding projects into manageable tasks where you just input a few settings and move onto the next thing. This plugin does that in spades!!

We've all seen this type of technology used on salespages, sometimes to the point of frustrating us when we just want to leave a site. Statistics don't lie though, and the stats on this tactic show it to be soooooooo effective that any marketer worth his Warrior Forum username has to consider using it!

So grab a cold beverage and sit back and take a look at this plugin. I think you'll agree it's worth the paltry 7 Bucks it'll cost you.

(That's right, it's just 7 lousy bucks!)

Wordpress Facebook iFrames Plugin

No More Static FBML App!

"On March 11, 2011, you will no longer be able to create new FBML apps and Pages will no longer be able to add the static FBML app While all existing apps on Pages using FBML or the static FBML app will continue to work, we strongly recommend that these apps transition to iframes as soon as possible. Lastly, we want to be clear that our deprecation of FBML does not impact XFBML, such as the tags that support social plugins.

What this means is that you can continue to add Static FBML to your Fan Page, and to develop custom tabs, but after March 11 Page admins will no longer be able to add the Static FBML application.

People seem to be pretty surprised and upset by a lot of this, but frankly how can they be? We've all seen the major changes implemented on the personal profiles, so did we really think the pages would stay untouched?

The good news is that at least some of the FB Page Creation tools are still viable. Our favorite of these is the Lujure Facebook Fanpage Factory. Like any of these page creation tools, there is a learning curve but it is a Drag & Drop tool for the most part so the curve is a short one. It is however not a cheap tool (at least not for the developers license) but check it out by clicking the banner down the page on this lens...

Some people are counting on the statement that on March 11th when the changeover is "complete" that the old static FBML pages will still work, you just won't be able to create new ones. But for how long will that remain the case?!

Nobody really knows, and frankly I'm not willing to bet my business on it!

So I am going to embrace the change and get onboard with Facebook using the New Wordpress Facebook iFrames Plugin!

This offer became a national joke in the time between President Obama being elected, and his inauguration. Saturday Night Live lampooned it repeatedly and even now occasionally brings back the huckster character supposedly behind sham offers of this type. President Obama may not be most people's cup of tea, but then again neither was George W Bush. That doesn't mean that one should disrespect the office of President of the United States.

Does this offer cross that line? You be the judge...

President Elect Barack Obama is being honored on brilliant uncirculated U.S. Mint Presidential Dollars by The New England Mint.

These limited edition coins are now available to the American public for the first time ever through this special offer. President Elect Barack Obama is depicted in glorious full color on a genuine United States Inaugural Presidential Dollar and layered in genuine 24 karat gold.

During this introductory release you can get the President Barack Obama Inaugural Dollar layered in genuine 24 karat gold for only $9.95 and just $4.95 shipping and handling.

This is $20.00 off the set issue price!

Each coin comes with a serial numbered Certificate of Authenticity with earliest orders receiving the lowest numbers.

Now you can own a piece of American History!

Robert B Parker

I would like to immediately express my sorrow at the passing in January of 2010 of Robert B Parker. He died while at his typewriter in the Cambridge home that he shared with his wife Joan. His writing meant so much to so many of us that it almost goes without saying how badly he will be missed. When pondering a loss of this magnitude, one can't help but think of the Housman quote that RBP was so find of:

"Malt does more than Milton can to justify God's ways to man."

We'll miss you Robert as well as all of the companions you so generously shared with us. And so we raise a glass of single malt and will try to come up with a pithy rejoinder to all...

Robert B Parker is the author of the Best Selling Spenser books that were the basis for the "Spenser For Hire" TV series starring Robert Urich and Avery Brooks. More recently he has started two new series of books. The Jesse Stone books which have already begun to be used as the basis for several "Made For TV Movies" starring Tom Selleck as Jesse. The other new book series is a bit different as it involves a female main character. Mr Parker was asked to write the Sonny Randall books as a vehicle for Helen Hunt. Although nothing has come of that yet, the books themselves are typically excellent. Robert B Parker lives in Cambridge, MA so it is not surprising that all three of these series of books are centered in the greater Boston area. As such, there is some crossover in characters between them - some major, some minor. I would be wrong not to mention that Mr Parker has written several "stand-alone" books. There have been westerns, a baseball book (about Jackie Robinson) as well as others, including one of my favorites, "All Our Yesterdays." I hope you find as much enjoyment in the books of Robert B Parker as I have. Happy Reading! Floyd Bogart

This makes reading even a new book by John Irving like being reacquainted with an old friend...

My own first John Irving novel was Setting Free The Bears, his first novel. I enjoyed it immensely and preceeded to work my way through the rest of his works.

Take a look at the trailers to a few of his movies and you will probably find the same feel to them that his books convey.

TED Talks

I first came across TED on YouTube and was an instant fan. I am constantly amazed and intrigued by life and what we human beings are up to. TED is a great way to keep up with the whole range of human experience. The following is taken from the TED site and can tell you more about it than I can.

I will be sharing on this lens the TED Talks that most intrigue me. From Tony Robbins to Annie Lennox, I hope you become as inspired and revitalized by what you hear and learn as I am.

Jim

TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences -- the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer -- TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.

The annual TED conferences, in Long Beach/Palm Springs and Oxford, bring together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

On TED.com, we make the best talks and performances from TED and partners available to the world, for free. More than 700 TEDTalks are now available, with more added each week. All of the talks are subtitled in English, and many are subtitled in various languages. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

>

Our mission: Spreading ideas.

We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. This site, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you're an important part of it. Have an idea? We want to hear from you.

The springtime TED Conference, held annually in Long Beach and simulcast in Palm Springs, is at the heart of TED. More than a thousand people now attend -- indeed, the event sells out a year in advance -- and the content has expanded to include science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world. Over four days, 50 speakers each take an 18-minute slot, and there are many shorter presentations, including music, performance and comedy. There are no breakout groups. Everyone shares the same experience. It shouldn't work, but it does. It works because all of knowledge is connected. Every so often it makes sense to emerge from the trenches we dig for a living, and ascend to a 30,000-foot view, where we see, to our astonishment, an intricately interconnected whole.

I do SEO for my own sites as well as for clients, so I tend to spend at least part of every day asking myself the following question:

What does Google like?

And one answer that comes back more and more often when I examine their actions and policies is:

More than anything else, Google likes Google!!

So in considering this one afternoon, I looked a bit closer at my list of Google Services on my iGoogle page and came across Orkut.

As the title of this page implies, Orkut is Google's Microblogging platform. Twitter is by far the most popular microblogging service online, and we should all be using it, but why wouldn't we want to take advantage of a service with as much to offer as you find here, especially when it is owned and run by a company who's butt we all spend so much time puckering up for?!

Let's take a look at what all we can do with this amazing Google property...

If so, then you just ain't listenin'! Bonnie Raitt famously said that she "missed Little Feat more then she missed being eight years old." A remarkable quote from a time after Lowell George had passed away when the remaining members had yet to recoalesce into the Little Feat that we continue to enjoy today. My own love affair with this ultimate musicians band began in my college years and built from two double albums. Yeah, this was before CDs and I bought these as LPs. They were, of course "Waiting For Columbus" and "Hoy Hoy." Obviously I came to the party late, and Lowell had already checked out. Lowell's vocal style is often imitated but ultimately his alone. The liner notes to "Hoy Hoy" called it "Vanilla Grits" or "White Boy Got The Woo-Woos." Just listen to the vocals on "Spanish Moon" or "China White" and you will get a feel for what this means. Add in his bottleneck guitar playing and you have musical genius even without his unique arrangement style. Lowell frequently went out of his way to make songs musically complex to achieve what he called the "Cracked Mosaic" effect. Just listen to the early work and you will find plenty of examples of this. Do not get the impression that this was just Lowell's vehicle though, as the rest of this group was and is composed of amazingly accomplished musicians. Unfortunately Lowell cast a rather large shadow both literally and figuratively and his demise left things in disarray for a time. For my money the next most vital member to the whole has always been Bill Payne. What a keyboardist! The list of people that he played studio sessions for is amazing, and his reputation is well established in musical circles. Bill is just a bit more reserved onstage than your average frontman, so many are unaware of him. You just can't ignore his talent though. With their eclectically distinctive musical style, respect from their peers far beyond their commercial success and a fiercely devoted cadre of fans Little Feat's place in musical history was already cast in granite by the time Lowell was gone. And we all know there are no second acts in American life right? Guess again! Little Feat eventually reformed, and are back out on the road and doing amazing work again! You have probably heard a few of their tunes even if you are not a fan. Songs like "Let It Roll" and "Rad Gumbo" have shown that these guys will continue to make amazing music far into the foreseeable future.
The Colbert Report

The Colbert Report started out as a fake commercial on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

They put together this 60 second spot that was essentially a very satirical take on shows like Bill O'Reilly's show, The O'Reilly Factor. It was so well done, and hilarious that Comedy Central asked them to do the show for real...

Watching the first few shows was great, but I didn't think they would be able to maintain that level of satire ongoing.

Boy did they prove me wrong!

A lot has happened with DMB since the announcement below.

Big Whiskey & The Gru Grux King was released and took the world by storm...

DMB did a killer live show for Hulu Live At The Beacon Theater...

And they did it with two new band members:

Jeff Coffin on Saxophones and Rashawn Ross on Trumpet.

Tim Rehnolds, Guitar Phenom and long time Dave Matthews collaborator finally officially joined the band as well.

There is much more to say, but I'd rather let their music speak!

I first came across these two very talented, very attractive "Girls In The Shower" a few months ago, and have only one criticism of their episodes:

There is way to much time between them!

Their comedy is witty, smart, sexy and fun. How can anyone not fall in love with this YouTube Channel?

This lens will feature all of the "2 Hot Girls" episodes and will grow as more become available, so be sure and subscribe to the RSS feed.

Enjoy!

GREEN DESIGN IS GOOD DESIGN
GOOD DESIGN IS GREEN DESIGN

Inhabitat.com is a weblog devoted to the future of design, tracking the innovations in technology, practices and materials that are pushing architecture and home design towards a smarter and more sustainable future.

With an interest in design innovations that enhance sustainability, efficiency, and interactivity in the home, Inhabitat's attention is focused on objects and spaces that are eco-friendly, multi-purpose, modular, and/or interactive. We believe that good design balances substance with style. We are frustrated by the fact that a lot of what we see being touted as "good design" in magazines and at stores is all style and no substance. A lot of contemporary design merely imitates the classic Modernist aesthetic without any of the idealistic social agenda that made Modernism such a groundbreaking movement back in the early 20th Century. The flip side to this is that oftentimes real technological innovations - the ones which will eventually change the way we live our lives - are often not packaged into enough of a stylish aesthetic to move beyond niche circles and crossover into mainstream popular taste.

Likewise, we are frustrated at seeing an emerging category called "Green Design" - as if sustainability is somehow seperate from good design in general. We believe that all design should be inherently "Green". Good design is not about color, style or trends - but instead about thoughtfully considering the user, the experience, the social context and the impact of an object on the surrounding environment. No design can be considered good design unless it at least attempts to address some of these concerns.

We believe in the original modernist ideology that form and function are intertwined in design. Style and substance are not mutually exclusive, and Inhabitat is here to prove it!

There has been a resurgence of interest in the works of Leonard Cohen in recent years.

Particularly since the release of the movie "I'm Your Man", a retrospective of Mr. Cohen's music performed by himself as well as a whole array of other performers including U2, and Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

His music is now being recorded by a whole new generation of artists, and is frequently used in both television and movie soundtracks.

He is like no other...

Free Traffic For Your Squidoo Lens

Update 11-20-2008:
Over the past month I have been doing a ton of research, experimenting and casting about for the best ways to get Free Lens Traffic.

A lot of what I learned came from experienced lensmasters here and on their blogs as well, but when it came right down to it they all had a few similar themes.

My search for Free Lens Traffic ended with a realization that the Twitter method outlined below does in fact get Free Traffic to your lens there are better ways that will get your better quality traffic as well. So while I will leave the Twitter procedure in place at the bottom of this lens, I will start with a few very specific things that get not just Free Lens Traffic, but Quality Free Lens Traffic.

Update 10-18-2008: A quick and easy thing you should be doing for each of your Lenses is to subscribe to your own lens' RSS Feed in Google Reader. You need to already have added your Google Reader's Shared Items feed to your FriendFeed account. Now whenever you update your Lens, it will show up in your Google Reader, and when you then share that item, it propagates nicely on FriendFeed.

Let me be clear right up front.
I am not going to ask you to buy a single thing in
order to implement this method of driving traffic to your lens.

This is a method that works, is viral and will continue to work ongoing for your lenses. The only thing you have to do is to follow the instructions as laid out in this lens.

This will work for existing lenses as well as for new lenses that you build. I would recommend that if you are doing this for new lenses, that you hold back some content so that you can update your lens over time. This is something that I was doing as a matter of course anyway.

Without further ado, let's get started!

The instructions will assume that you already have a lens completed and ready to promote...

They also presuppose that you have something relevant to say. You will be posting content to the internet, so to avoid being labelled as a spammer, or worse it is important that you understand that even a short blurb of less than 140 characters needs to have a purpose. It needs to say something other than just "I want traffic!"

Enough ranting...

Have fun!

Floyd Blogs About...

*Wow! This lens has become something of a lightening rod in a growing controversy over Microblogging. Let me go on record here on this issue. When you go about making posts to "Microblogging Platforms" you need to be mindful to make your posts useful. Brevity is no reason not to be relevant. Content can be both short and still have merit. If someone doesn't find your posts to be so, they can and will stop following or subscribing to your posts. 'Nuff said!

Oh, and to all of you that have taken exception to my work here: Thank you sooooo much for all the lovely traffic. Have gotten much positive input from folks that would never have seen my lens if not for your comments. So again, a heartfelt TY!

The New Facebook Fanpage Changes

Logging into your Facebook account today may have given you quite a shock if you have a Fanpage, or Page as they are now called!
They've actually been called Pages as opposed to Fanpages for a while now, and you "Like" a Page instead of becoming it's "Fan". These are mere trivialities compared to the changes that came about today...
Here is a rundown of the major changes or Upgrades, as FB is calling them:
Navigation Had Been Moved
The content that you formerly accessed by clicking the tabs at the top of your Page can now be found in the column underneath your Page profile picture. The text in the box that used to appear in the box underneath your Page profile picture will now appear in the Info tab.

Profile Picture Sizes Reduced

Profile picture size: The profile picture size for Pages has been adjusted from 200×600 to 180×540.
You Can Use Facebook "As Your Page"
In other words, to a limited extent you can be identified with your page as opposed to your personal profile. You will be able to receive notifications for your Page, view a News Feed for your Page, and like and post on other Pages as your Page. This enables you to interact on other Pages as your Page. You can not interact with personal profiles as your Page.
Photos At The Top - Just Like On Your Profile
The most recent photos that you post to the Wall of a Page you admin, or photos you tag your Page in, will appear here. This area will not include any photos posted by people who like your Page.
Wall Filters
Pages now have two publicly visible Wall filters-”Posts by Page” and “Everyone.” Page admins will be able to view additional filters-”Most Recent” and “Hidden Posts.”
Email Notifications
You can opt to receive notifications when people post or comment on your Page.
Featured Pages & Admins
You can feature other Pages your Page likes, or admins of your Page, in the new “Likes” and “Page Owners” sections on the left side of your Page.
Mutual Connections
When people visit your Page, they will be able to view friends who also like your Page, as well as other Pages that both they and your Page like.

PLUS: The Big Bomb Drop!

No More Static FBML App!

“On March 11, 2011, you will no longer be able to create new FBML apps and Pages will no longer be able to add the static FBML app While all existing apps on Pages using FBML or the static FBML app will continue to work, we strongly recommend that these apps transition to iframes as soon as possible.

Some people are counting on the statement that on March 11th when the changeover is "complete" that the old static FBML pages will still work, you just won't be able to create new ones. But for how long will that remain the case?!
Nobody really knows, and frankly I'm not willing to bet my business on it...
