So your child has been diagnosed with adhd. It is probably a relief in some ways, to put a name with the issues you have been dealing with, and it other ways kind of overwhelming. One decision parents have to contemplate, which is a rather large decision, is whether to medicate their child who is struggling with adhd. There is definately not a clear right answer. It is important to remember the decision to medicate or not needs to be addressed on a child by child basis.

Encouraging your child to read has never been so important as it is today. With all of the distractions kids have today reading is usually the last on their list to do. My 10 year old loves playing video and computer games. My husband and I wanted him to read more and play less video games, as I am sure is the same with most parents. I saw Henry Winkler talking about his series of books written for kids on the today show. I went on Amazon and ordered a few to see how he would like them. He LOVED LOVED LOVED them. We are working our way through the series. All I can say is that Henry better start writing more because my son is reading more than ever. Thanks to Henry Winkler and the wonderful Hank Zipzer.

Socialization and the ADHD Child

Children in general may have a hard time socializing due to being shy or not quite knowing how to interact with another child. Children with ADHD have an even more difficult time trying to build friendships because they lack the social skills almost all together to be able to form new friendships. The true bond of friendship is being able to relate to the other person and listen and react in a loving interested way. ADHD doesn't allow this to happen. The disorder often prevents children from seeking out new friendships.

I was watching the news the other day and caught a story about children and the internet. It got me thinking about my kids on the internet. I consider myself to be a computer savy mom and believe that I have control and know what my kids are doing online. However, this news story just would not leave my mind all day. It really got me thinking. After all, kids are smart and there are always ways that they can get around parents. You remember when you were young, how many times did you do somthing your parents had no clue you were doing and probably would not approve. A problem that parents of younger kids need to consider is ensuring that their kids are taught the tools to keep them safe from online predators that are looking for children online. The internet is so amazing and wonderful, but at the same time it is so scary and contains a lot of threats to kids of all ages. The best defense a parent has is to stay on top of the always changing internet and keep a sharp eye on what their kids are doing.

I admit it. I cannot cook well at all. If you don't believe me you can ask my family. They eat my meals because if they didn't they would starve. Finding a legitimate work from home company may seem like an impossible task. I started my work from home journey over 10 years ago after the birth of my first child. I tried so many different things and searched for many, many hours. There are some very legitimate companies that hire people who work from their home office, however, there are also a lot of people out there looking to scam you. My advice to you when looking for, and considering, a work from home company is to "Be informed and do your research." I created this lens to share what I have learned over the years.
