How to Reuse Old CD or DVD

Do you burn CD-ROMs on your computer and get errors, where you have to toss the CD-ROM? Do you get tons of CD-ROMs in the mail from Internet providers and trial programs? I do and all these unwanted CD-ROMs are piling up. You can recycle them but it isn't as easy as a plastic bottle or aluminum can, so it is time to think about reusing and finding some uses for them.

My goal while collecting all of these projects around the web was to help myself and other people interested in trashing less and reusing more stuff!

This list will be broaden all the time as I find new great craft projects so bookmark it in your browser and check it out from time to time!

Narodne brojalice i dječje pjesmice

Hvala!

When is Your Name Day?

If you live in Europe or Latin America and you are either Christian or Orthodox religion, you know what the Name Day is and you probably celebrate it. For the rest of the world, this tradition is unknown and somewhat strange. Many of my American friends never even heard of it.

So, this is a story of celebrating a Name Day tradition - not birthday but close... And you can find in a list provided here which day your Name Day is and maybe you can start celebrate your own Name Day!

If you have kids in your home, or you happen to be a teacher and you work with them in school, preschool or kindergarten, you already know kids love to make things with their little hands. It gives them such a great feeling of accomplishment when they turn something so plain and colorless, like toilet paper roll insert, to a new toy they can play with! And if that toy is cute animal, there is no end to their happiness (and playtime)!

This page collects all the links from around the web with kids craft that have 2 things in common - it has to be created from toilet paper roll cardboard inserts and it has to be an animal! I have split them in couple categories so you can find easier what you're looking for. We have here: domestic animals, wild animals, sea animals, bugs (insects), birds and fantasy animal crafts. Inside each category, animals are placed in alphabetical order so you can find easier what you're looking for.

Hope you'll have as much fun using these links are I did collecting them!

There are many nursery rhymes available, online, on CDs, DVDs and books. What's common to most of the nursery rhymes is: babies, toddlers, preschoolers and children of an older age LOVE THEM!

This page is dedicated to the nursery rhyme The Wheels on The Bus - this is one of my daughter's favorite rhymes. She sings it all the time and even makes up her own rhymes to that melody!

We'll check here some of the resources and ideas for playtime and some simple crafts that help toddler's emotional and phisical development.

0-12 Months: Top 10 Educational Toys

From the moment they open their eyes for the first time, babies are learning. You may think that this small newborn doesn't get anything. You are so wrong! She/he is learning from touching you, smelling you, hearing your voice, looking into your face, even from breastfeeding.
One of the first things your baby will learn is to associate the feel of your touch, the sound of your voice, and the sight of your face with getting his or her needs for comfort and food met. You can encourage your newborn to learn by stimulating your newborn's senses in positive ways - with smiles, smoothing sounds, and gentle caresses.
Once your baby turns 3 months and finds out that hands are used for holding things, or move things with hands and legs, real learning through play begins.

Long Distance Friends

People tend to make friends. It's in human nature as it is in the animal nature - striving to belong to a group. Only difference is where we find them and what qualities we are looking for in another person.

Ever since I've became active online, there are many people I've "met" and consider friends! Now, why I've put word met between "???" --> Reason is simple: I've never met these people face to face! Or exchanged conversation with them - like making sounds! Still, I consider them to be my friends!

This lens is here to list values I admire about my friends. And to ask a question: Is it possible to consider a friend someone you've never met?

As a member of Roman Catholic Church, I was baptized. When my baby girl was born, it was only natural for me to consider baptizing her as well.

Baptism is one of most important Christian traditions. Where I live it's usual for christenings to be held on Sundays.

Christening is more important to parents, godfathers, grandparents and other relatives that are usually invited for this event, than to baby itself. Babies don't understand this since they are usually too small to grasp meaning of christening!

Still, when they grow up they like to listen stories about their baptism and look at pictures taken on that day! So do parents!

Here you'll find greatest selection of christening gowns and dresses for baby girls and some accessories and gift ideas for godfathers, grandparents and others!

Let's stop spending money and start saving money! In process we'll help our planet become a greener place!

The obvious first option is to reuse them for your groceries and other goods. They likely won't hold up for as many reuses as the plastic bags, but remember even one reuse is better than none.

On this page, you'll find few background informations about paper bags, as well as many tips how to use them in your gardening, home improvement and craft projects, both for kids and adults.

This page compiles a number of resources from all over the web with one common attribute: all of these craft projects are created from reused household items! Things you normally trash! Because of this, most of these crafts are really cheap!

These craft projects are here for kids, parents and teachers - as a great way to spend some quality family time or simple art-class projects.

But, this lens is less about my role as an angel (although it's about that as well) but more about what angel blessings meant to me and what they mean to you. How such small thing as one person (an angel) coming to your lens and leaving you a little note: 'Angel blessing to your lens!' can affect your future lensmaking.

Saint Patrick's day is approaching and it's all about green! I've compiled a list of links here to help you (and myself) go even more green on this green day!

Here you will find links to sites where you can find directions how to reuse common household items - those things that people usually throw away or recycle, so you could give them new life with this simple craft projects.

Most of these projects are suitable for kids, classroom art projects and can be used as ideas for parents and teachers. Hope you'll have fun as much as I do while creating something new instead of trashing!

Creative Play with Peg Boards: A Parent's Review

Pegboards are one of the classic toys even I used to play with as a child! To tell you the truth, when I bought peg board for my daughter, I expected to see just the same toy as it was when I was a kid. I was mistaken! Apparently, even peg boards were modernized!

Today's pegboards come with pegs in different sizes and with convenient cases they can be stored in! I'm so sorry that I don't own my old pegboard any more to show you the difference!

Still, when we entered toy store, this was a toy my almost 3 year old picked for herself. And she's been playing with it a little bit each day. She even learned how to secure the case herself. Let me show you today's pegboards

Creative Father's Day Resources

The best gift, one that will show all love, doesn't have to be expensive. Most important thing that will matter to father is if it's given with love and does it show all the affection you have for him.

For these reasons, you can always make something for your father and you should never fear if he is going to like it. He will not like it... He will love it! It shows that you spent your time and put extra effort to make for him something special!

And these craft projects are special! In which way? Here you can find selection of crafts which are all made of reused items. Items you normally trash. So it's even cheaper than buying expensive craft kits. These pages are intended for kids but also for parents and teachers, as a recommendations for art class.

I really hope you'll find something that will bring big smile on your daddy's face!

This page holds a number of crafts suggested for kids of different age. What's great about these crafts is: all of them are created using reused item from around a home. You know, stuff you usually throw away? Well, in this way, you'll save some money, keep kids busy and de-clutter your home a little bit!

DIY Wallpaper Scraps Sensory Alphabet Cards

Making Alphabet Cards that allow Pre-schoolers to experience the sensation of touching and feeling each letter is the basis of these touch and trace Wallpaper Alphabet Sensory Cards.

There are many methods of teaching children how to recognize and write the alphabet, and Sensory Alphabet Cards have been used in many classrooms, especially Montessori ones. These cards are usually made out of sandpaper that the child traces with their fingers to get the feel of the letter. The problem for some parents is the expense of these cards, and some parents don't like the rough sandpaper feel either. I have come up with another way to make these cards that use recycled materials that are easily found.

An inexpensive and fun way to make your own Sensory Alphabet Cards would be to use wallpaper scraps! Some people have some around their homes, if not you can easily find wallpaper scraps in hardware stores as free samples. Take these scraps, a little glue and white cardboard and you will be on your way to making your own unique Alphabet Cards for your little one.

The white cardboard pieces can be collected from shirt and other clothes packaging (you know those white cardboard pieces they use as support) or check with your local store and see what they might be throwing out. All the materials for this project, except the glue, can be found and recycled.

Taste of Croatia

If you have been to Croatia than you know what I'm going to say! If not, let me tell you: We, Croats, love to eat!!! We also love to organize parties and gatherings on almost every occasion.

Tasting of numerous Croatian food specialties and quality wines from taverns to exclusive restaurants is not to be missed by any visitor to Croatia. Several Croatian tour organizers organize gourmet and/or wine tasting tours in different regions while day or half day trips from tourist destinations to village households (naturally accompanied by folklore or musical programme) present traditional dishes. Practically all coastal destinations offer regular boat trips with fish picnic. During organized hunting, fishing and angling trips, adventure tours, organized trips with sports the tourists often take part in the preparation and tasting of local dishes and drink local wines.

This article was made in my desire to make Croatia and it's traditional cooking more familiar to all of you.

Extraordinary Uses For Ordinary Things

When I first stumbled upon this book, I was trying to remove mold stains from my baby's push-chair (I was crazy enough to put it into old, unused refrigerator - like it's going to be in dry place there - what a mistake!!!). I heard lots of advices and tried lots of them but they didn't work. Then one of my friends said she had this book and that it would be good to look inside for something else.

And I found a tip that worked for me! I used borax!

I read this book from cover to cover in three days and couldn't believe the ways of clever using of common things. I heard of some and used some that my mother, grandmother or friends passed to me, but there were so many tips I didn't know of!

So, after about a month I returned to my friend her copy of book and bought my own. I realized that I'm using it so often that it's worth buying!

This book promises 2,317 ways to save money and time by using products you already have in your household but don't know what they can be used for.

Learning Toys for Toddlers - Wooden Puzzles

As a mother of 19 months old girl, I've watched her development and the ways in which she learns about things around her. There are many toys that assisted my girl in her early childhood development but somehow wooden puzzles are one of her favorite. And that's one of the reasons I've created this list. To bring puzzles as source of fun and learning to new parents!

And grannies, aunties and others? One of these puzzles will be greatly appreciated by your little girl or boy! They will surely bring smile to faces of all toddlers!

I've made two lists - 1st and 2nd puzzles... 1st are best for toddlers that haven't been in contact with any puzzles yet - these are 3 piece puzzles so kids don't get frustrated trying to put them in right spot. These are appropriate for introduction to toddlers 10 - 15 months old. 2nd puzzles are one that follow - age range 15 - 18 months for giving them to your toddler.

Baby Alive dolls have been around for some time now and each little girl I've know has asked her mom or dad to get her one. Unfortunatelly, original (first edition) of Baby Alive dolls are quite expensive and in a way, maybe not best choice for younger kids like toddlers.

Instead, I would recommend getting your toddlers a cheaper version of Baby Alive dolls from Baby Alive Better Now Baby serie by Hasbro. If you read through this page, you'll find out just why is this my recommendation.

Beauty of Reusing

There are so many ways to reuse different items! There are so many items for which you can make a second (or third) use! And you can reuse them for such a wide range of purposes in your home, garden, office but also as art class projects or craft projects for kids and adults.

This page has a bit different purpose then others I published in past on ways to reuse different household items: This is showcase of most beautiful reuses! Some of them may even be categorized as artwork!

Image credits: Go Green by earthdayshirtsgifts

Throughout this page you'll see items in green boxes. They are showcase of reused artwork / craftwork of artists from around the world (Africa, Asia and America) gathered in Gifts With Humanity store.

Gifts With Humanity is the retail division of Global Fair Trade Crafts Inc DBA Global Crafts. Global Crafts was founded in 2002 by Kevin Ward and Renice Jones, who met as volunteer computing teachers in Kenya realized the capacity of the web to help individual artisans. After three years in Kenya they came to the USA and setup Global Crafts, initially as a small Fair Trade retail store. It soon became apparant that to sell in volume and change the lives of the artisans, the wholesale business would have to grow.

By clicking on any picture of the craftwork, you'll be taken to page where you can make a purchase and help a person across the world to earn a living.

Even Babies Love Maya the Bee

This educational cartoon that was made in 55 episodes was broadcasted on TV when I was a kid. I adored it! It was one of the most popular cartoons in Europe during 1980's.

Today, my babygirl is watching it also. I don't mind since there is so many good things she can learn watching this cartoon. Every episode offers some new tips on what's appropriate behavior, how to act in certain situations, how people act toward animals, to help one another, etc.

It's really excellent educational cartoon. So, if you gonna let you kid watch some cartoons, let this one be among them! There is so much a kid, or even an adult, can learn!

Internet Lingo - Lost in Acronyms

First time I was engaged in chat, it was really very confusing for me! And intimidating! I thought this is because English is my 2nd language but soon enough I realized - words people use on chats are really completely new language!

Cyberspace lingo (or internet slang if you wish) is full with acronyms! Words people use in their short forms to make their online conversation quicker, faster, more interactive! Today conversation can't be seen online - either on chats, text messages or Twitter, without lots of LOL, LMAO and many other forms of initialisms.

As much as I love cooking, it's often hard to find enough time to make meals which are healthy, simple and delicious at the same time. That was a reason why I was so lucky to get this recipe!

This recipe was shared by one of my friends and as soon as I made it for the first time, it became one of my favorites and often served as a side dish on our table.

If you have a crave for the sweets, this recipe will be perfect for you! Sweet and healthy... Honey and Carrots! What more can someone ask for!?

Old City Dubrovnik

Situated in the south part of Croatian coastline, Dubrovnik is place that should be added on your 'must-see list'!

The walls of Dubrovnik girdle a perfectly preserved complex of public and private, sacral and secular buildings representing all periods of the City's history, beginning with its founding in the 7th century.

Croatian coastline is beautiful, dotted with bays, beaches, steep cliffs and many forested islands. There is a great variety of flora, predominantly cypress, pine and olive trees, as well as vineyards, lemon and orange plantations - together with aromatic herbs and flowers, including exotic plants such as palm trees, agave and cactus, which create a special atmosphere. Nature lovers will find a true Mediterranean landscape here, while those fond of sailing will discover a wonderful sea and marinas.

Traditional Croatian Music

Croatia is a country with wealthy cultural heritage which is mostly shown in Croatian folk music.

The culture of Croatia has roots in a long history: the Croatian people have been inhabiting the area for fourteen centuries, but there are important remnants of the earlier periods still preserved in the country.

The music of Croatia, like the country itself, has three major influences: the influence of the Mediterranean especially present in the coastal areas, of the Balkans especially in the mountainous, continental parts, and of central Europe in the central and northern parts of the country.

If you are not familiar with regions of Croatia, visit Taste of Croatia featuring video clips of different parts of Croatia and 16 traditional recipes.

First Birthday Presents List

If you are like me, you have a problem selecting just the right present for kids birthdays, Christmas and other occasions. Since I'm in my 30's, there is a lots of newborns, babies, and small kids around me - more of them almost each month! That's not bad at all! Like a small baby-boom! :-))

But, it also brings a new question - What to buy for child's birthday? Since I'm not a kind of person that buys what ever I like and don't care if kid is going to like it, I spend lots of time looking for just the right toy or book or something else for little one! And that's the reason I made this page.

Here are listed toys, books and other stuff that are, from my experience, suitable for 1-2 year old kids (both boys and girls) and which they will love and be happy receiving. Usually I buy a book, a toy and some candy. But you can decide for yourself what to give.

Those Who Can, Do, and Those Who Can't, Teach?!
I don't have the slightest idea who came up with this idea, but somehow it turned into one of those cliches you hear on daily basis. And one of those which devalues teaching as a profession.
In the meantime, those who use this cliche conveniently forget one simple truth: If you showed any interest whatsoever during your school years, teachers were the ones who pushed you to see your limits and possiblities.
Teachers are the ones who helped you become the person you are today!

Daddy Needs Diaper Bag!

Today more and more often fathers are involved in caring and development of their kids. And that's great!

I know my father wasn't in either mine or my siblings. Until I was walking, most of job around 'baby me' was on my mother - feeding, walking, sleeping, carrying, washing, etc. Father would jump in for occasional walks in strollers or short playing time.

Today, things are much different. My husband was by my side from the moment our baby girl was born. We gave her a first bath together. As soon as I came from hospital, I showed him how to change diapers, how to carry her, etc. Later on, after she stopped breastfeeding, he took over bottle feeding. He was with us all the time (apart working hours).

Speaking as mom: Thank God thing are different today and fathers take bigger role in caring for newborns!

So, since dad are active today, they need some accessories to match with their personality. Well, you don't really expect daddy to carry around that pink diaper bag you bought once you knew you'll give birth to baby girl?!?

What a strange selection for a name, you may think! Well, as many of you know by now, I'm from Croatia and Willow is my last name translated in English.

Other than that, I really like willows... They are quite mystical, quiet and resistant. There are many myths and legends that give strange powers to willows. There is always some willow in horror movie whose leaves whisper in the night!

Bending tenderly with the wind, the willow is symbolic of feminine energy and loving kindness.

Number Recognition for Toddlers - Learning Toys, Puzzles and More

We teach our kids to count from the moment they start to talk and walk and, in most cases, we are not even aware of it. We count their steps as they walk up the stairs, or count their animals when we play with them. And it's all part of learning!

Next step would be to connect said name of number with the written character - sign for that number. Kids at this age will learn written number more as a picture. But at this stage it's important that they can recognize which sign goes with which word for number.

Here are suggested toys in many different shapes and sizes. Choose those that would fit best for your child knowing his / her stage of development and playing prefrences.

It's all about learning and not even knowing it. Our goal is to have fun and learn in process!

Most of us parents have played Candy Land as kids. Candy land is one of the first board games introduced to toddlers and preschoolers. It's easy for them to play since this board game doesn't include reading and it's really great for early learning helping kids with skills like color recognition and social skills with taking turns.

This page is not here to talk about history of the game or all the variations available on the market (if you're interested in that, you'll find some links further down the page). Instead, here we talk about some alternative ideas and games you can use with your toddlers and preschoolers to repurpose Candy Land game for more learning and fun!

This article is about a charismatic man who kept Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Monte Negro united in one strong country - Yugoslavia for more than 40 years.

Many people from former Yugoslav Republic will argue about his good influence, but there are also many still mourning him and Yugoslavia.

Me? I was too young when he died to do either of these things. But, learning in school about him (history books have changed historical facts in meantime) and talking to people older than me, I came to one conclusion: he was a great man that wouldn't band his head in front of anybody, even world leaders.

Cravat - Necktie Made in Croatia!

Did you know that Croatia is the mother country of the necktie?

In his book, La Grande Histoire de la Cravate (Flamarion, Paris, 1994), Francois Chaille tells us about the appearance of this article of clothing and how it became fashionable.

"... Around the year 1635, some six thousand soldiers and knights came to Paris to give their support to King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu. Among them were a great number of Croatian mercenaries led by a ban, or Croatian viceroy.
The traditional outfit of these Croats aroused interest on account of the unusual and picturesque scarves distinctively tied about their necks. The scarves were made of various cloths, ranging from coarse material for common soldiers, to fine cotton and silk for officers. This elegant "Croatian style" immediately enamoured the French, who were delighted by the new article of clothing, which had been previously unknown in Europe.

For the gallant French officers in the thirty-year war, the advantage of the Croatian neck scarf was its enviable practicality. In contrast to the lace collar that had to be kept white and carefully starched, the scarf was simply and loosely tied around the neck without need for any additional care. Just as elegant as the stiff, high collars, the new scarves were less awkward, easier to wear and remained visible beneath the soldiers' thick, long hair.
Around the year 1650, during the reign of Louis XIV, the Croatian scarf was accepted in France, above all in court, where military ornaments were much admired. The fashionable expression, 'a la croate', soon evolved into a new French word, which still exists today: la cravate. This innovation symbolized the height of culture and elegance. On his return to England from exile, Charles II brought with him this new word in fashion. Over the next ten years, this fashion novelty spread across Europe, as well as across the colonies on the American continent..."

Since that time in the 17th century, derivatives of the word croata have been present in many languages, (i.e., English, German, French, Portuguese, Italian), meaning cravat or tie. It follows then that Croatia is the mother country of the necktie, as France is the mother country of high fashion, Brazil of coffee, Switzerland of cheese and watches, Portugal of port wine etc.

How to Choose First Baby Shoes?

Some babies make their step sooner some a bit later. This shouldn't concern you normally. My baby girl made her first steps when she was almost 13 months old. She was little bit lazy for walking! Well, why she would want to walk when mommy is carrying her around where ever she wants?!

When your baby decides that it's time to change a view of the world and wants to take something on it's own, she / he will walk! For start it's better that baby is barefoot so it can feel the ground and develop body balance. But what to do when baby wants to walk on it's own outside? Time to buy first real shoes!

Here are answers to the most frequent questions and dilemmas parents encounter after they decide to go out and buy first shoes for their baby.

Čobanac - Slavonian Shepard's Stew

Shepard's stew, locally called Čobanac is a traditional dish originating from continental parts of Croatia. This stew tastes the best prepared in the cooper kettle on the open fire. In old days, it used to be prepared on built-in fireplaces inside house.

This is a great dish to make for large company, for celebrations in the outdoors or for big company picnics. Depending of the region, there are couple variations for this recipe although main guidelines are the same: a lots of fine chopped onions, few different types of meat, along with different spices and long cooking time.

Here you'll find some books and toys that I have bought for three year old girls and boys and for which their parents said they are both educational and fun for their kids. And time consuming (very important for parents and caretakers:-)!

Also take time to read part on milestones - it will give you some more ideas what could be great for kids at this age!

Books Sharing Crafts from Reused Items

With recession over our heads and less money available in our wallets, we are looking for ways to make each object inside our home into reusable and valuable items. One of ways to do this is spending less money on toys and reusing ordinary household items, those we usually trash, into new toys.

Another good thing about crafting in this way, other than preserving Earth by keeping things out of landfills is, in this way we have quality family time playing and evolving creativity of our kids!

All of these craft books are also excellent choice for teachers as source of ideas for cheap art class projects for toddlers, preschoolers and school age kids.

You know your dad means the best in the world for you! I know you do! Still, it gets pretty annoying hearing same lines over and over! And man! He really loves to repeat them! I had same problem with my dad while I was growing up! From sentences like: "I told you so!" to "Use your head! That's why it's on your shoulders!". And I know he didn't mean anything bad with those lines! It was his way to guide me through some things in my life... Still, it made me feel frustrated from time to time!
And, here I am, making a page with collection of T-shirts with the lines fathers use all over the world - in different languages! Still, meaning is the same! ;) This page can be your resource to find great birthday or Christmas present for your father - if he has a sense of humor! Image from intro is applied to T-shirt design by worldsfair

How to Make a Great Toy Review

In The Best Toys for Toddlers Club we are creating colorful, playful, and most importantly, truthful toy reviews with your help!

Play is serious business to Toddlers. As parents we know they learn through play. They develop their motor and social skills through play. They enjoy playing. And there is no end to their creativity! But which toys are best? Which toys would you recommend to other parents if you were to "review" it?

Don't think of a review as something complicated or technical. Instead think of Reviewing Toys for Toddlers as similar to a Play Group of Parents and Grandparents talking about what they like, or don't like, about the toys their Toddlers play with. That's a Review, and the kind that will be available in our The Best Toys for Toddlers Club.

It's really that easy. We want to know what your Toddler likes to play with the most. Does the toy stimulate, teach, entertain, or do they play with it once and then forget about it? Your review will help other parents make the often times overwhelming decision on which toy to buy, or what toys can be used to teach developmental skills other than what a Manufacturer tells you.

With all the choices out there, we all want to buy, or give, our Toddlers safe and fun toys. So how do you make your review?

Every parent, including myself, is concerned about their child's safety. Since the toys are object mainly in contact with children, and present potential threat to them, it's our duty to make sure that toys we give them are safe and present no risk.

Most of the countries have some kind of safety laws and guidelines which toy producers must meet but it's still our responsibility to watch for our children and remove toys which may present any safety hazard.

I don't know have you heard of this cartoon character, but it was popular 1980's in former Yugoslavia and also in Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Iran.

If you, like me, enjoyed his inventions as a kid - watch some clips and bring back your childhood...

What ever you do, you'll do it better, faster and with more success if you are well prepared for it!

Preparation is, in negotiation, as well in most things in life, extremely important. Master negotiators spend huge amount of time gathering information and preparing for their negotiation. Many poor negotiators crash and burn due to lack of preparation. Go into a negotiation with an agenda which you have to prepare beforehand.

Who of us doesn't remember little dear Bambi, his rabbit friend Thumper and skunk Flower?! Many of us shared his hopes, dreams, laughs, fears and tears. I even managed to cry reading Salten's novel that I had as reading assignment in my third grade.

There were some criticizm for being inappropriate for children because of the death of Bambi's mother as well as the scary violence of the hunting scenes, dog attacks, and the forest fire climax. Although this may be scary for younger kids, this movie also contains good examples of friendship, courage and love.

Shape Recognition for Toddlers - Learning Toys, Puzzles and More

In everyday life, where ever we look we see shapes. We can always, what ever we do and where ever we are, teach our kids about shapes. Learning about shapes is an introduction to math. It's simpliest to start their math education with something they are familiar with. Like shapes.

You will find here number of different toys for babies and toddlers. All of the toys from this page are highly rated by parents and educators. Which one you'll pick to start your child's education about shapes completely depends on her / his stage of development. And, you know your kids the best. :)

Just remember: it's more about having fun than learning at this stage of their life! :)

Message of Love - Hearts 4 Haiti

All of us are aware of recent events in Haiti. We all share our concerns and fears for the Haitians who suffer from not only poverty but now a lack of food and shelter due to recent tragedies - hurricanes during 2008 and devastating earthquakes in early 2010.

Like so many others in the wake of this horrific tragedy, a group of artists from Zazzle.com decided they wanted to help. They didn't feel it was enough to simply donate money then continue with their lives as usual, so instead they decided to offer their art as a way to spread the word to others and donate the proceeds as an ongoing endeavor.

This group of artists and designers have banded together to increase awareness and raise funds through the sale of unique, hope-inspired stickers and magnets printed and sold through Zazzle.com.

The sticker in the introduction image is available at Hearts4Haiti.

This is rare country in many ways and here is one of it: You may go hiking early in the morning, refresh yourself in Adriatic see by noon, enjoy delicious traditional recipes accompanied with great music for lunch-break, go rock climbing afternoon (if that's your deal) and enjoy yourself until early morning hours.

Opportunities are endless - for family or adventure vacation - you name it and we have it!

Alphabet Recognition for Toddlers - Learning Toys, Puzzles and More

As parents, we can't expect our toddlers to know how to write certain letters. Their fine motor skills are simply not developed enough for grasping the pencils and tracing letters in straight or curved lines. But we can play with them and through playing, teach them the names of letters!

First step to teach toddler a letter is to connect image (picture, sign) for each letter with the sound that letter makes. And that can be accomplished through playing!

This page holds number of recommendations for toys, puzzles, games and activites that can help your toddler learn to recognize letters. Which one you'll pick will mostly depend on the prefrences of your child. Some kids love puzzles, some don't. Some kids love stamping, some don't. You, as parent (or grandparent) know the best and will make the best choice for your little ones!

Face VS Brains

My recent few articles about friendship got me thinking: How important is seeing someone's face? Reason to ask this question is: I have many friends online I've never met and don't really know (or care) how they look!

Still we are thought during all of our lives that impression counts - specially first impression. And that first impression can get you accepted into a group or by another person or get you discarded in the moment!

Event with Susan Boyle just emphasized this issue. She made really bad first impression on the audience and judges on the singing contest. Still, after only few words she sang, you could see obvious change on everyone's faces!

So, I'll go for: face can't compensate brain or heart! No matter how beautiful you are, if you're just beauty and no brains, I don't want you around me as friend!

We didn't have many toys around when I was a kid. Specially a kid being raised in socialist country like Yugoslavia was in '70s and '80s. We had few toys and our games were simple... Simple but so fun!

We could turn everything into an exciting game. We played together and had really great time. We loved to play many different roles and grew up to be a masters of pretend play! One of my personal favorites was playing shopkeepers and shoppers!

Earth's Children Series by Jean M.Auel

I encountered the first book from this series -The Clan of the Cave Bear - when I was in the high school and I have read it in two days! Since this book has 480 pages, I hardly slept these two days! Ayla's story so preoccupied my attention and my imagination that I couldn't let it go until I was finished! Afterwards, in next two decades other books from this series were published - 4 of them: The Valley of the Horses, The Mammoth Hunters, The Plains of Passage, The Shelters of Stone. Let me share with you a little secret: every and each time a new book was released, I went from beginning and read all of them from the start! So, I read - The Clan of the Cave Bear five times! And loved it each time! Why I loved it? Because it brought me to some different place, totally forgotten but still somewhere in my bones. Prehistory is described in such a way that even those who hate learning about human or earth's history, will find it appealing and interesting!

Simple Crafts: Cube Puzzle Restoration

My little girl received a pack of story puzzle cubes (plastic) that were already used. As much as we really don't mind second hand toys, these cubes were already ready for trash. Picures on cubes started to peal off and it was impossible to put them back together.

As a result, I've decided to restore them instead of simply throwing them to trash. As you'll see below, it's really not that hard and most of the things you'll need you probably already have at home.

Since my little girl loves Pepa the Pig, I've decided to use pictures from that cartoon for cube puzzles. You can see one of the sides on the picture on the left.

Changing Body Language? Looking Fake?!?

If our body doesn't respond to what our mouth are telling, it would be hard to convince someone in our words. That's truth! But, is it really possible to change all the signs that our body is giving - fear, discomfort, boredom, defensiveness, etc. Do we have to stand in front of the mirror and try to change expressions of our eyes, mouth and so on?

There are so many trainings, books, articles, web sites, etc. with subject how to adopt skills that will level our body talk with our verbal talk (I'll list many of them later, so if you are interested - go ahead).

Here I'll try to give you other kind of opinion. Maybe easier to follow in order to match body and verbal talk.

This is great choice for first dollhouse - it's not too big, it's portable - you can fold it and use it as a storage for accessories. It also isn't expansive. Either are accessories.

And, one of the things I like the most: details! Drawings on this cottage are detailed and beautiful!

Take a look - I have added a load of pictures for you to see how this cottage looks like in real!

Teddy Bear Race - Game for Toddlers

As all parents are well aware, many toys our toddlers receive as gifts or even we bought them, because at the moment of purchase, we thought our toddlers would love it, end up at the corner of our home dumped and forgotten. Then, it's up to parents to think of the games and fun things with those toys to make them interesting for their toddlers.

This is how this game was created. We had some plush teddy bears laying around and my little girl completely lost interest in them. So, last night I was looking at them and decided to throw a little race for our furry friends! It worked wonderful! ;) And my girl was asking for more! Well, it was surely a hit!

Let me show you what we did and how our plush bears became fun again!

Finger Puppet Books: A parent's review

What can be better than have a finger puppet and a book all in one? :) Dramatic play with puppets adds to joy of reading a book. These books / puppets are great pick for any baby or toddler and they will give them great start in their future independent reading.

We need to read to our kids from birth. They might not understand all the words and their meanings as babies but they will love listening to how your voice changes when you play a role from a book!

There are so many benefits your kids will have from reading and playing with these books. And even better for you: they are really cheap so you an easily collect variety of them and form a little library for your baby or toddler!

Have you heard of the word Moxie or know what it means? I hadn't heard of it until a couple months ago when MGA Entertainment launched a new fashion doll collection named: Moxie Girlz. The positive message, or motto, that went with these new dolls is what got me interested in them.

The Moxie Girlz motto is, "Be true! Be you!" along with "Every girl has the strength to do something amazing! Anything is possible as long as you stay true to yourself and never give up on your dreams!"

What mother wouldn't like this? This was something we all would want for our little princesses! Who wouldn't want their little girl to grow up to be strong, independent, and creative?

This was something I could identify with! After all, this mom was a little girl once too! :)

Negotiation Basics For Business And Ordinary People

Negotiation has turned into science, but first and bottom fact about negotiation is: Your whole life is full of negotiations.

Negotiating is not something that you do only in your working hours - turn around and think about it: you negotiate from the moment you wake up until the moment you lay in bed.

Melissa & Doug's Cutting Food Box: A parent's review

I have bought Melissa & Doug's Cutting Food Box for my 3 year old girl because I wanted to buy her something for kitchen pretend play when she showed an interest in "cooking". As you may have noticed, toddlers are always somewhere around your legs when you start making meals. My daughter often would bring her step stool to the kitchen and ask if she could assist me. :) Now, every time this would turn out to be a complete mess!

This set is very appropriate for young ones because it's colorful, sturdy and the pieces make a "crunch" noise when you slice them apart with a wooden knife. We had so much fun playing with the Cutting Food Box, and I'm sure we'll have a lot more in the years to come!

The Best Toys for Toddlers Club

Welcome to The Best Toys for Toddlers Club.

The Idea behind this project is very simple: The Best Toys for Toddlers is a Club for parents who would like to share their opinions, experience and ideas about certain toys with other parents. We consider parents and toddlers the REAL TOY EXPERTS. After all, toddlers are the ones using the toys and we, as parents, are the ones that very often spend time with them playing with those toys.

As Parents we know what our children like and dislike. The Best Toys for Toddlers Club is where Toddler Toys will be reviewed by Parents, for Parents.

I'm still a new parent since my baby girl is now 17 months old... What I learned very fast as a mother is that there is no worst thing than baby crying... My heart gripped every time she started crying!

I was familiar with book by Elizabeth Pantley: Gentle Baby Care since I read it when I was expecting, scared of what's in front of me (as many new parents). But after my baby was born I needed more answers to more specific question and then I found this exquisite serial!

Acquire Agreement by Negotiation

So, you prepared yourself well for a negotiation, came to a meeting to show what you know, but still there is something missing to close a deal.

Have you done everything right?
Important to remember is: there is distinct difference between negotiating and making a conversation - where masters negotiate, newbies talk. If we only talk and spread subjects, we are letting 'adversary' off the hook. When it looks like that negotiations are loosing track, bring them back to right one!
Don't talk rubbish - negotiate important issues!

So, I turned myself to digital art... mostly created by Corel... There is one big advantage of making digital art - you can erase part of it (or all of it) if you don't like and start all over!

Adventures in Paklenica, Croatia

There are many really exquisite places in Croatia. National Park Paklenica is one of the eight national parks in Croatia. What's even more interesting is that there are two national parks which are spreading over peaks, hills, mountains, fields and other forms of the Velebit mountain. It's combination of wild and hard to reach mountains - for those who love adventures and rock climbing, and for those who like slower pace - numerous hiking, trekking and biking routes, or simply walking and bird watching. And all of this in surrounding that is stunningly beautiful and peaceful.

"Paklenica is peculiar, different from other national parks. It seems to be here for nature lovers, not for tourists." (Quoted girl from France who visited Paklenica.)
This lens is not completed! I plan to add many more information in future! So come by again!

One of the known facts about Croatia: we have almost 2 million people with Croatian origin abroad . Croats mostly emigrated from Croatia after World War I and World War II looking for work and better place to live. Many Croats emigrated to US, Canada, Australia and European countries like Germany, Austria, Swiss and Italy.
One of the things they took with themselves is Croatian tradition. Traditional Croatian recipes, music, language and many other ways to remind themselves of their origin. If you got to meet even a single Croat, you would know this: they are proud of who they are and where they come from.
So, my guess is: American and Canadian Croats are making Purica s mlincima for Thanksgiving! What do you think?
All the profit and evenutual sales made through this page are donated to Characters of Character NFP, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to establish a firm foundation in which children develop strong civic values. Values and traits this program works on are: Behavior, Perseverance, Friendship, Health, Kindness, Manners, Respect, Responsibility, Self-Esteem. I would like, as a mother, to see more programs like this worldwide.

Travel Essentials - Portable DVD Player!

Well, something like this won't happened to me anymore! When you go on long trip or vacation by car with your kids, you better load a portable DVD in your car! This is something that can shorten your travel a lot but also occupy your kids so they don't jump all over your head (and you can't run out of the car on the middle of the road) and scream at you that they are bored and that they want out of their seats!

As a mother of baby girl (well, she ain't baby any more but in my eyes!) who will turn 2 years in couple weeks, I would never ever consider going on a trip longer than hour or so without portable DVD player that can be used inside a car!

Creating toys for my little girl from trash and seeing how much she enjoys in those "new toy" is the best reward any mom (or crafter) can get!

Most of the project I'll be presenting here are really simple. They are created from items you can find in your own home, like toilet paper rolls, plastic bags, etc.

Some of these craft projects can also be used by teachers for their art class.

Hope you'll find something fun to create yourself!

If you haven't seen newest toy on the market, you better take a closer look: Pop-on Pals are quite inovative and unique!

All the pieces are large enough and they don't present choking hazard for little ones who love to put things in their mouth! They are also easy to handle and mix and match!

If you get yourself and your child only 1-2 sets, you can already make tens of different combination making these little characters always new and interesting!

It's hard to find one stroller to fulfill all requirements so maybe this guide will assist you in finding perfect strollers for you and your baby!
