DIY Wallpaper Scraps Sensory Alphabet Cards

Making Alphabet Cards that allow Pre-schoolers to experience the sensation of touching and feeling each letter is the basis of these touch and trace Wallpaper Alphabet Sensory Cards. There are many methods of teaching children how to recognize and write the alphabet, and Sensory Alphabet Cards have been used in many classrooms, especially Montessori ones. These cards are usually made out of sandpaper that the child traces with their fingers to get the feel of the letter. The problem for some parents is the expense of these cards, and some parents don't like the rough sandpaper feel either. I have come up with another way to make these cards that use recycled materials that are easily found. An inexpensive and fun way to make your own Sensory Alphabet Cards would be to use wallpaper scraps! Some people have some around their homes, if not you can easily find wallpaper scraps in hardware stores as free samples. Take these scraps, a little glue and white cardboard and you will be on your way to making your own unique Alphabet Cards for your little one. The white cardboard pieces can be collected from shirt and other clothes packaging (you know those white cardboard pieces they use as support) or check with your local store and see what they might be throwing out. All the materials for this project, except the glue, can be found and recycled.

When I first stumbled upon this book, I was trying to remove mold stains from my baby's push-chair (I was crazy enough to put it into old, unused refrigerator - like it's going to be in dry place there - what a mistake!!!). Today more and more often fathers are involved in caring and development of their kids. And that's great! I know my father wasn't in either mine or my siblings. Until I was walking, most of job around 'baby me' was on my mother - feeding, walking, sleeping, carrying, washing, etc. Father would jump in for occasional walks in strollers or short playing time. Today, things are much different. My husband was by my side from the moment our baby girl was born. We gave her a first bath together. As soon as I came from hospital, I showed him how to change diapers, how to carry her, etc. Later on, after she stopped breastfeeding, he took over bottle feeding. He was with us all the time (apart working hours). Speaking as mom: Thank God thing are different today and fathers take bigger role in caring for newborns! So, since dad are active today, they need some accessories to match with their personality. Well, you don't really expect daddy to carry around that pink diaper bag you bought once you knew you'll give birth to baby girl?!?

Did you know that Croatia is the mother country of the necktie? In his book, La Grande Histoire de la Cravate (Flamarion, Paris, 1994), Francois Chaille tells us about the appearance of this article of clothing and how it became fashionable. "... Around the year 1635, some six thousand soldiers and knights came to Paris to give their support to King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu. Among them were a great number of Croatian mercenaries led by a ban, or Croatian viceroy. The traditional outfit of these Croats aroused interest on account of the unusual and picturesque scarves distinctively tied about their necks. The scarves were made of various cloths, ranging from coarse material for common soldiers, to fine cotton and silk for officers. This elegant "Croatian style" immediately enamoured the French, who were delighted by the new article of clothing, which had been previously unknown in Europe. For the gallant French officers in the thirty-year war, the advantage of the Croatian neck scarf was its enviable practicality. In contrast to the lace collar that had to be kept white and carefully starched, the scarf was simply and loosely tied around the neck without need for any additional care. Just as elegant as the stiff, high collars, the new scarves were less awkward, easier to wear and remained visible beneath the soldiers' thick, long hair. Around the year 1650, during the reign of Louis XIV, the Croatian scarf was accepted in France, above all in court, where military ornaments were much admired. The fashionable expression, 'a la croate', soon evolved into a new French word, which still exists today: la cravate. This innovation symbolized the height of culture and elegance. On his return to England from exile, Charles II brought with him this new word in fashion. Over the next ten years, this fashion novelty spread across Europe, as well as across the colonies on the American continent..." Since that time in the 17th century, derivatives of the word croata have been present in many languages, (i.e., English, German, French, Portuguese, Italian), meaning cravat or tie. It follows then that Croatia is the mother country of the necktie, as France is the mother country of high fashion, Brazil of coffee, Switzerland of cheese and watches, Portugal of port wine etc.

We received a Candy Land Castle from a friend as a gift for last Christmas. It turned out to be a great choice for my 2 year old toddler! My little girl received a pack of story puzzle cubes (plastic) that were already used. As much as we really don't mind second hand toys, these cubes were already ready for trash. Picures on cubes started to peal off and it was impossible to put them back together. As a result, I've decided to restore them instead of simply throwing them to trash. I have bought Melissa & Doug's Cutting Food Box for my 3 year old girl because I wanted to buy her something for kitchen pretend play when she showed an interest in "cooking". As you may have noticed, toddlers are always somewhere around your legs when you start making meals. My daughter often would bring her step stool to the kitchen and ask if she could assist me. :) Now, every time this would turn out to be a complete mess! This set is very appropriate for young ones because it's colorful, sturdy and the pieces make a "crunch" noise when you slice them apart with a wooden knife. We had so much fun playing with the Cutting Food Box, and I'm sure we'll have a lot more in the years to come!

There are many really exquisite places in Croatia. National Park Paklenica is one of the eight national parks in Croatia. What's even more interesting is that there are two national parks which are spreading over peaks, hills, mountains, fields and other forms of the Velebit mountain. It's combination of wild and hard to reach mountains - for those who love adventures and rock climbing, and for those who like slower pace - numerous hiking, trekking and biking routes, or simply walking and bird watching. And all of this in surrounding that is stunningly beautiful and peaceful. "Paklenica is peculiar, different from other national parks. It seems to be here for nature lovers, not for tourists." Traditional Croatian recipes, music, language and many other ways to remind themselves of their origin. Well, something like this won't happened to me anymore! When you go on long trip or vacation by car with your kids, you better load a portable DVD in your car! This is something that can shorten your travel a lot but also occupy your kids so they don't jump all over your head (and you can't run out of the car on the middle of the road) and scream at you that they are bored and that they want out of their seats! As a mother of baby girl (well, she ain't baby any more but in my eyes!) who will turn 2 years in couple weeks, I would never ever consider going on a trip longer than hour or so without portable DVD player that can be used inside a car!
