I came across this book by accident while searching for a Christmas gift and being the mother of two free-spirited, exuberant girls, I immediately loved it. "Wreck This Journal" is not your ordinary journal at all. You'd better put your seatbelt on because these vampires like to drive fast! It's true that the Cullen's try to 'blend in' to the small town of Forks, Washington, but when it comes to their cars, it's hard to hide their need for speed. In Twilight, the modern day love story of forbidden love with a fairy tale ending, Edward Cullen is the knight in shining armor, so to speak. Every handsome prince (bloodthirsty vampire hero) needs a trusty steed (shiny silver Volvo) to rescue the damsel in distress (fragile little human). Ahh, the infamous shiny silver Volvo. *sigh* Don't get me wrong, I'm not usually a "car person". Like Bella, I don't know a M3 from any other flashy convertible in the lot, but I have to admit that my heart skips a beat for that shiny silver Volvo when it skids in for the rescue in Port Angeles. This is a tribute to the fast cars in the Twilight movies and books... Edward's Volvo C30, his "special occasion car", the Aston Martin Vanquish, Bella's "after car", the red Ferrari, the fictional Guardian, Alice's Yellow Porsche, Emmett's Jeep, Rosalie's red convertible and Carlisle's Mercedes. Plus, Bella's old Chevy pickup truck gets an honorable mention in spite of it's rust and intolerably slow speed. Warning: Book and movie spoilers below!

Casey now has a full dozen keepsake eggs and Starly is always frustrated because she always has less than her sister. *It's never too early to start planning this craft project!! Wooden eggs can be found at your local craft store, but they sell out fast and are especially hard to find just before Easter. I am not a Hare Krishna, but my family and I had the opportunity to attend the Holi Festival at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in the Spring of 2010. It was an unusual and exciting experience in many respects, but one of the most amazing things was that, for the first time in almost 20 years, I was able to eat anything on the menu! The Hare Krishna's extend their spiritual and peaceful nature beyond the human race and believe that universal brotherhood includes animals. As a vegetarian this was liberating and I was not honestly not expecting the food to be so wonderful. The flavors were a magical mixture of spicy and sweet that intertwined, but never blended together completely. After a day of "holi" mayhem, music and mantra beneath a giant dusty rainbow, we began our journey home. We were only in the car for a matter of minutes before the kids started asking if we could make Hare Krishna food for dinner. I was tempted to turn the car around and grab a meal for the road, but with 20,000 in attendance the traffic was lined up for miles, so I promised to find some recipes when we finally made it home. Now I am on a quest for great vegetarian Indian recipes and I will share what I find here with you!

The story of two young girls and the photographs that created controversy, hope and curiosity for over 63 years. Elsie Wright was 16 and her cousin, Frances Griffiths, was 10 in 1917 when the first two photographs of the famous Cottingley Fairies were taken with a borrowed camera in Yorkshire. The girls truly believed in the existence of fairies and decided to show their skeptics photographic evidence as proof that they indeed spent time in the company of their tiny winged friends. There were a total of five photographs in the series. When the first two photographs were developed by Elsie's father he assumed the photos were fake. Elsie's mother believed the photos were genuine.

I pack lunches for my kids and husband every weekday, so I'm always looking for new ideas to make lunch seem a little less boring. Muffins are always a hit, but buying store-bought baked goods can really kill your grocery budget and they're not as healthy as you might think. Because we're trying to eat more organic foods and avoiding GMO's in our diet, I'm spending a lot more time in the kitchen lately than I'm used to. I haven't burned it down yet, so you could say that things are going pretty well. Cooking and baking from scratch is actually really rewarding when you find a good recipe to work with and I found a winner with a delicious Morning Glory Muffin recipe that I tweaked a bit to compliment our vegetarian diet. This muffin recipe is packed with healthy foods, but you'd never know it because it tastes so yummy! They make a great on-the-go breakfast, snack or lunch and kids love 'em. The flavorful combination of whole wheat flour, carrots, apples, pumpkin, flaxseed, dried fruit, wheat germ and extra virgin coconut oil makes this a moist and hearty treat that you won't feel guilty about eating, even if you eat more than one.

It's no secret that I adore red and white toadstools and I've been wanting to add them to a bento box design for a while now, so this meal is "fairy food"! The main ingredient, mini meatloaf, was inspired by the muffin tin meal recipes that have become so popular for single-serving bento-size portions, but the best part is that you can make them in advance and stash them in the freezer until you need them. My mini meatloaf muffin is decorated with cheesy pepper ring flowers. In the larger box with the meatloaf are some fresh clover sprouts, broccoli, pea pods and of course, the pretty little toadstool mushroom. I am super excited to share how I made this one! In the smaller box there are orange wedges, pear slices, cherries, broccoli and a mini yellow bell pepper that I used as a container for my veggie dip. Sitting up top is a homemade snail roll! Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli fans are squealing with delight after seeing a plush version of their forest friend Totoro in the Toy Story 3 movie! Yep, you heard it right, the faithful forest protector has been Pixarized! Totoro made in his cameo in the latest Disney Pixar movie, where you can expect to see at least a few seconds of footage on the big screen alongside Woody and Buzz in theaters. For those who have not been properly introduced to Totoro, he is an enormous rabbit looking creature that lives in the woods among other spirits in the 1988 Japanese anime film, My Neighbor Totoro, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film follows the adventures of Satsuki and her younger sister Mei as they move into their new home and discover some very mysterious, but friendly creatures that can only be seen by children. Totoro is one of the most beloved characters in Miyazaki's films and the timing couldn't be better because Studio Ghibli and Disney released the English-language version of My Neighbor Totoro on DVD in the United States on March 2, 2010. Dakota and Elle Fanning star in the Disney version as sisters, Satsuki and Mei.

My family loves fresh greens and they make such a healthy addition to our bento box lunches, but microgreens can be very expensive to buy at the grocery store, so I've decided to grow my own in my kitchen. Welcome to my magical rainbow garden where nothing is as it seems. You see, this garden is enchanted and grows in a mixed-up, sort of way. As you pass through the garden gate, you'll notice that the carrots are not orange, but purple. The corn is tickled pink. The strawberries have lost their blush and are now a sunny shade of yellow. A few steps further will lead you to patch of chocolate peppers and a mound of ghostly white cucumbers. Please do be careful not to step on the itsy bitsy watermelons or little baby squash, they can be hard to see. Along the fence you'll find the pretzel beans swinging happily from the vines. You'll want to stay a while, take off your shoes and let your toes wiggle in the earth, but before you go, don't forget to gather some seeds of whimsy to sow when you get back home!

I was introduced to Bright Eyes by a boy who hangs around my house a lot lately with my 15 year old daughter. I thought they might even be in love, until one day when I heard him swooning over Conor Oberst and I realized that his true love was music. He may have just grown tired of hearing about another band, (whose name I won't mention), that is an everyday word in our household because talk of the singer's hair, abs and dreamy voice seem to consume many conversations between my daughters and I, but whatever the reason, on this particular day, he handed me a CD and told me that it contained all the music that I would ever need to be happy. He was as passionate as a preacher spreading the gospel with the sunrise on a Sunday morning, so I decided to amuse him and listened as he popped it into the laptop and scrolled through album after album, song after song. Most of the music included Conor Oberst's bands along with some Modest Mouse. It was obvious to me that he had become so connected with this music that by now it was flowing with the blood through his veins and had become deeply rooted in his bones and soul. This was the soundtrack to his life, so far. As promised, I spent the next morning with Bright Eyes playing in the background as I worked and have grown to appreciate and understand why their music and Conor's words have the impact that they do on so many. Now, I feel that it is my duty to share with you. If Bright Eyes is already an old, familiar friend, you will enjoy your visit here as you watch their videos and sing-a-long, if only in your mind.

Legend Of The Guardians is a beautifully animated movie about the owl world based on the book series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky. The story begins in a forest kingdom with the birth of a Barn Owl named Soren (voice by Jim Sturgess) who falls into the wings of evil minded owls. With the help of his new friends, Soren escapes and must find a way to bring peace back to their lands. The movie is still in production and is being directed by Zack Snyder (300 and Watchmen) fame, is being produced by the creators of Happy Feet. The cast includes the voices of Emilie de Ravin (Remember Me) as Eglantine, Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) as Kludd, Helen Mirren and Hugo Weaving. The soundtrack features a new single, Kings And Queens by 30 Seconds To Mars which suits the movie beautifully. I actually get chills every time I watch the trailer because the music soars amidst the scenery and the wings of the owls! Legend of the Guardians is going to be a visual masterpiece, but the message of honesty, true friendship, and bravery is the heart of the story. Watch for it in theaters September 24, 2010 and check out the book series while you wait to see it on the big screen.

I put a lot of love into this lens because every time I make this Focaccia bread recipe I am reminded of my daughters little face with her nose scrunched up. I stumbled upon this recipe when my oldest daughter was very small and it has become a family favorite, despite the name, Stinky Bread. This recipe was renamed during the baking of our very first loaf. The aroma of garlic and olive oil was quite powerful and Casey, (she was 3 at the time), came stomping into the kitchen and proclaimed that I was making "Stinky Bread". Admittedly, she was right. When you think of homemade bread the first thing that comes to mind is the tempting sweet smell that pours from the oven and you can hardly wait get your first taste. This page is dedicated to my daughter, a true Linchpin. She is indispensable and one day she will change the world. Of course, she has an unfair advantage over most of us because she was born without a lizard brain. (You know the voice in your head that stops you from doing the things that scare you.) After 14 exuberant years filled with terrifying moments, hundreds of boxes of band-aids and several tables painted with memories of a spirited young artist, it has been scientifically proven that the lizard brain simply does occupy any part of her mind. A big part of that is a connection to a school that has a deep commitment to peace education and authentic learning experiences, including service work, locally and internationally. My daughters attend a K-12 Montessori/Liberal Arts school that has quite literally been one the best things that our family has ever had the privilege of being a part of. They have the freedom to learn and explore in a hands-on environment that lets their imaginations work towards creating their art instead of tying them to a desk with a textbook in their hands. Flightless Bird, American Mouth is my favorite song from the Twilight Movie Soundtrack. It brings the pages from the book to life for me when I hear it because the lyrics so perfectly describe Edward's angst. He is tortured by his feelings for Bella knowing that his love for her constantly puts her life in danger. The song definitely reminds me of the sadness in New Moon when he is gone and she feels so alone. Samuel Beam's voice is just beautiful in this song! I hope you love it as much as I do!

For some families, Thanksgiving is the one day each year when families join one another for a meal and those extra special recipes are prepared to be shared with loved ones. When you bring young and old together there are bound to be some interesting and controversial topics that erupt while passing the potatoes. And then there are the moments when you need to create a diversion before your cousin's date answers Grandpa's question in front Aunt Sally and your 4 year old nephew who has taken a sudden interest in the conversation. If your family is anything like mine, you get the idea! For example, you can imagine my first Thanksgiving as a vegetarian when my grandfather (who I have the utmost respect for) was a cattle rancher and to make matters worse, my dad a very enthusiastic game hunter. Jamie Oliver's new television series, Food Revolution, may give Americans a much needed wake-up call to reinvent they way they think about food. Or will he? Not everybody is happy to have this English chef nosing around in the unhealthiest city in American (and arguably, the world), but he's not packing his bags just yet. Jamie's set up shop, or kitchen, in Huntington West Virginia and plans to teach the community to cook with fresh, colorful, nutrient rich ingredients and kick the habit of eating processed foods forever. That's not all Jamie's stirring up for the show. He's turning up the heat in school cafeteria's and challenging the system to trash the frozen boxes of mystery meat and powdered food packets that magically turn into pasty, starch and sodium laden meals. This is no easy task. He's up against the strict, (and often senseless) USDA guidelines and a kitchen full of stubborn ladies who are perfectly happy with the way things are. I think Jamie's up for the challenge, but will the kids appreciate the effort and actually eat his homemade meals or will they force the system to convert back to it's menu of convenience?

This little netbook offers more than you would expect from it's small size! There's a ton of great surprises packed into this ultra-light, totally portable computer. Besides being the cutest laptop ever, (mine is chocolate brown) it is a fully functional computer, complete with 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 160 GB hard disk drive, and 1 GB RAM. I love the freedom that the 6-cell battery provides. I can work for hours without worrying about recharging. The memory card slots make it easy to upload my photos and files too. The best thing about it is that I can easily fit it right inside my purse and take it virtually anywhere!

During our recent move we gave away our living TV (gasp!) and have since been searching for fun activiites to bring our family together without planting ourselves on the couch watching television. We are also trying to clear a lot clutter from our lives and board games take up a lot of space and rarely get used, so when I came accross the Dutch Blitz card game I was intrigued by the quirky design and all the positive reviews. I ordered Dutch Blitz on the spot and the four of us played the first round together. By round 2 we were hooked! My daughters, ages 10 and 15, caught on quickly and are now fierce Dutch Blitz competitors. Yikes! It's gets downright dangerous as the cards pile up and they are racing against each other. My husband and I barely have a chance, but the game is so fast paced that it's fun whether you're winning or losing. Everyone plays at the same time, so you're never waiting for your turn. If your meat did not come prepackaged in clean, shiny plastic wrap and you had to actually kill the animals yourself, would you still eat meat? In my opinion, it is easy to be blind to the horrors that animals raised for food endure when you buy your meat pre-packaged at the grocery store. The truth is that most animals raised for food do not live in wide open pastures. They are born, raised and killed in factories. It makes me wonder if people actually had to face the animals before their death if they would still have such an appetite for meat.

Now that we've learned some bento basics, it's time to turn the cute factor up a notch and practice adding facial expressions and character to our bento foods. Last week, Susan Yuen shared some of her tips for making adorable sandwiches and bread bentos and many of her ideas can be incorporated into other aspects of bento as well. Everybody had their own unique style and like other forms of art, you'll probably find your own niche or add your own twist to the bentos you create. Have fun and most importantly, just jump in and do it! The House That The Echelon Built

30 Seconds to Mars and Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity united for a one-of-a-king build on June 30, 2008 for the A Brush With Kindness program. The band raised $10,000 by auctioning off 6 slots for fans to work on the build alongside the band members for a day. In the same week, 30 Seconds to Mars' beautiful family of fans, the Echelon, were inspired and started their own project with Hope Builders, a program of Habitat for Humanity in the UK, which raises funds to build homes internationally. The Echelon House raised enough money to build 2 homes before the band had even begun their build in Los Angeles on June 30, 2008. The House That Echelon Built is now working towards raising enough funds for their 16th house! When the earthquake hit Haiti in January of 2010, the Echelon House saw the need and started a new build for Haiti. On January 18, 2010, Jared Leto joined forces with Larry King on a star-studded CNN telethon fundraiser for Haiti. During the live television broadcast, Jared donated �1,000.00 to the Echelon House. His donation inspired others to donate and in a matter of hours an entire house was funded, completing house #2 for Haiti. "It`s an international project- a little more proof that when people come together, good things can happen."

My So-Called Life dealt with many controversial issues that teenagers experience and struggle with as they try to find their own identity. Many of the episodes included strong themes such as teenage alcoholism, censorship, homophobia, teenage sex, school violence, homelessness, and drug use. High school is a real life drama and My So-Called Life beautifully, and at times, tragically, depicts the struggles and joys of being a teenager. The television series aired in 1994-95 and although, only 19 episodes were produced, the show is hugely popular and continues to live on with the release of the complete series in the, newly released, DVD Boxed Set. My So-Called Life was the best television series, ever. (In my humble opinion.)

Twilight Fans Respond To Summit Recasting Rachelle Lefevre As Victoria

On July 28, 2009 Summit Entertainment announced that the role of Victoria will be recast for the the studio's upcoming production of Eclipse. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in Twilight as well as the upcoming release of New Moon, will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard. This decision did not settle well with fans and an immediate response in support of Rachelle Lefevre took Twitter by storm as #bringbackrachelle jumped to the top of the trending topics list Wednesday. Summit responded, but blamed Rachelle for leaving them no choice when she decided to accept another project that conflicted with rehearsal and filming schedules for the Eclipse movie. It is rumored that Rachelle will sue and it seems that Summit has no intention of listening to pleas from Twilight fans who are outraged by the decision. Don't expect any new statements in the near future because both Summit and Rachelle with probably let their lawyers battle it out from here. Once upon a time there was a squid mommy who spent a lot time making these silly things called lenses. She had two daughters who were very patient with their mom while she was working because they knew she had a dream to become a Giant Squid and that was why she was working so hard. The youngest squid daughter, Starly, who was 8 years old, had an especially hard time being patient with her mom as she spent a lot of time on the computer, but she really wanted her mommy to be a Giant Squid so she kept herself really busy with all kinds of projects like drawing, reading, writing and singing songs, and antagonizing her older sister. She even helped her mom think of new ideas for her lenses and proudly told everyone that her mom was trying to be a Giant Squid. Sometimes people thought she was just being silly talking about squids so much. One day Starly's mommy decided that she was such a special little squid daughter that she should make a lens all about her and here it is...a lens all about a little squid helper!! 100% of the profits from this lens will go to Starly!
