Squidoo : Lenses by genglo

Hi, my name is Julianne and I am a Volunteer, a Web Developer, a College Graduate, a Wife, a Mother, a Photographer, a Vegetarian, an Animal Activist, and a Business Owner (not necessarily in that order). I am an avid blogger and I love Squidoo. I have been proud to serve as a Citizen Squid at Squidoo. I like to think of Citizen Squids as volunteers that work to help make Squidoo a little bit friendlier for everyone. ...

MySpace Music

After a number of my favorite bands started creating official MySpace pages, I decided it was time to finally break down and create my own. I was shocked by how many amazing artists were on MySpace Music and what a great opportunity this was to find new music. Shortly after creating my profile and adding my friends and favorites, I started receiving invites from a lot of great bands of which I was unfamiliar. I created this lens because I am assuming that there are many other music lovers that will appreciate a list of the official MySpace pages for these great metal and rock bands. Please feel free to contact me, and let me know about other great official pages that I may have missed. This lens is a work in progress, so expect it to grow and change over time.

Quick and Easy Recipes

I love collecting and sharing recipes with others as well as developing new recipes for my family and friends. As a busy mom, I prefer quick and easy recipes that I can prepare with the children. It's important to involve kids in the cooking process, to encourage their creativity, and teach them healthy food habits. Our family happens to be vegetarian, so many of the recipes on this lens are healthy, and meatless. I welcome your food related comments and questions. I'd love to hear about your favorite recipes, too. Please do me a favor and take a moment to rate this lens. If you enjoy this lens, I'd really appreciate it if you would tell your friends about it, too.

Porcupine Tree

It is impossible to describe Porcupine Tree, except to say that their music is addictive. They can't really be categorized into a specifc genre. Some call them progressive, and some metal, and others rock. They are a little bit of everything. Each CD is unique and exciting, and complex, but always entertaining. I discovered their music in 2003, when they toured with Opeth. I heard that they were fantastic, so I went to the show with an open mind. The performance blew me away and I ran to the merch table to buy up whatever they were selling. Since then I have been unable to get enough of their music. Porcupine Tree music takes up nearly half of the space on my iPod. Their songs find their way into all of my playlists and I make a point to see them whenever they come to town. Fortunately, my entire family enjoys their music, and my 12 year old daughter went to her first Porcupine Tree show in 2005. While most of her friends call Green Day their favorite band, Sarah says her favorite is Porcupine Tree. I am so proud. I love to hear from other Porcupine Tree fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens. This is just my little way to spread the word about the music I love.

As a vegetarian and an animal lover, I don't wear animal skins. My goal for this lens is to help others find high quality, attractive non leather shoes. Faux leather shoes don't have to be frumpy. Designers are realizing the demand for cruelty-free footwear and designing accordingly. I'd love to hear about your favorite faux leather designers and where you find your shoes. Please take a moment to leave a comment or contact me directly with your thoughts.

Opeth

Opeth is often described as melodic death metal. Truly, there is nothing else like them. As musicians, they are all spectacular, and the vocals are one of a kind. I have never heard a voice as soft and smooth as Mikael's, yet at the same time, he has a phenominally intense death growl unlike any other. Lyrically, the music is original and powerful, as well. I love to hear from other Opeth fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens. This is just my little way to spread the word about some of the music I love.

I could be considered a music evangelist. I'm passionate about music and I love spreading the word about my favorites. I tend to lean toward those underrated bands that rarely get played on the radio (here in the US, at least).

Ferrets are wonderful creatures and they make fantastic pets. However, living with a ferret is serious business. They are intelligent and mischeivious, and they love to get into trouble. Ferret Fun is my collection of ferrety links and information for people who love ferrets. Our family includes a business of seven ferrets that have enriched our lives in ways that I cannot possibly describe. People who live with ferrets will understand that feeling. I welcome your ferret related comments and questions. I'd love to hear about your ferrets, too. Please do me a favor and take a moment to rate this lens. I am a real patient that lives with this disease. I created this lens to provide support and information for other patients. I am not here to sell you snake oil, or take your money in order to profit on your pain. So many lenses and websites seek to take advantage of those of us with chronic illnesses in order to make a quick profit. My advice to anyone living with arthritis, is to find a doctor that you trust, and don't be fooled by magic pills, creams, and potions that promise to cure your disease. I look forward to meeting other people with RA. Please post your comments below, or feel free to contact me directly

Apparently it is time for the obligatory calling card lens. I am quite a fan of Squidoo, so I intend to use this lens as a jumping off place for all things me. We shall see how it goes. Please visit my Lensmaster Page, for a current listing of my Squidoo lenses. One of my favorite things about Squidoo, is the option to give your proceeds to charity. My lenses benefit Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter. Our family volunteers our time there and they currently have around 100 homeless ferrets in their care. My little sites may not generate that much money on their own, but the collective voice of thousands of lenses can do a lot of good. Please consider creating your own charity lens, too.
I'm a big fan of the band Kamelot, but I only discovered them a few years ago. I fell in love with the music, after listening to the Epica and Black Halo CDs. I am simply stunned and amazed by the talent and impressive musicianship of this band. The experience of seeing this band perform live is hard to describe. I feel so fortunate that we are able to get bands of this caliber to come to our town and play in some of the most intimate venues. My entire family enjoys Kamelot, which is a blessing, because the more my children listen to good music, the less likely that they will fall under the spell of some of the garbage that is played on local radio. I love to hear from other Kamelot fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens. This is just my little way to spread the word about the music I love.

I created The Mommy Mall ten years ago, as a way to showcase small women owned businesses on the Internet. The mall has grown and evolved, as the Internet and my own interests have, and it's now a little bit of this and a little bit of that. In addition to owning The Mommy Mall, I am a volunteer for a charity that is near and dear to my heart. It is Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter that works very hard to save the lives of these misunderstood pets. The wonderful thing about Squidoo is that they make it easy for people to do good work for charities. Therefore, I donate to Ferrets Unlimited.

Organic food is produced according to standards that restrict the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and other harmful drugs and chemicals. Naturally, organic food is good for you, but it is also good for the environment. Organic farmers do not use chemicals that pollute our air, water, and soil and they use sustainable farming techniques that use fewer resources than non-organic methods. I use organic gardening methods at home and try to buy organic products whenever possible. I don't want to feed chemicals to my family, nor do I wish to support companies that produce unhealthy food. The more that we request and buy organic products, the more they will offer in our grocery stores. photo © istockphoto/ranplett

Cedar Point is one of the top rated theme parks in the entire world. Its main claims to fame include its astounding number of world-class coasters (17) and the fact that many of them were record-breakers when they were introduced. In addition to the coasters, Cedar Point includes two water parks, hotel resorts, marinas, a mile-long beach, theaters, and many other family attractions. Roller Coaster enthusiasts often visit the park due to its wide range of coaster types - from wooden twisters, inverted and looping steel coasters, to hanging, stand-up, and steel hypercoasters. There's a little bit of everything at Cedar Point!

Blackfield

Blackfield is an amazing collaboration between Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree and Israeli rock star Aviv Geffen.

As a big Porcupine Tree fan, I discovered this amazing band, while on a mission to discover as much of Steven Wilson's music, as possible. The music is both beautiful and melancholy and it leaves one wanting more.

My entire family enjoys Blackfield and I'm so thankful to have teenagers that listen to good music, vs the garbage that they play on the local radio stations.

I love to hear from other Blackfield fans and I welcome your comments and questions about this lens.

Music is one of my main passions in life. I think everything is better with music playing. I grew up listening to classic rock and metal, but these days I gravitate to more modern music that can't always be pinned to a specific genre. Some of my favorites are Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend, Moonspell, and Katatonia. I love to hear from other fans, and discover new music. By the way, any money that is generated from this lens goes to Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter in Cleveland, Ohio.
My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride is a doom metal band out of West Yorkshire, England. Their music combines dark subject matter with deeply moving melodies and the honest vocals of Aaron Stainthorpe. The lyrics and violin used on some of their older material attracted me to their music. They released their 9th full length studio album late in 2006 entitled "A Line of Deathless Kings" which contains various elements of their music from previous albums - heavy guitar riffs, melancholy keyboards, both clean and "death" vocals, and lyrics concerning love and death. They've recently experienced some personnel changes, but have secured the following lineup for the current incarnation of My Dying Bride. Co-founder Aaron Stainthorpe on vocals, co-founder Andrew Craighan on guitar, Hamish Glencross also on guitar, Sarah Stanton on keyboards, and newcomers Lena Abe on bass and Dan Mullins on drums.

Edge of Dementia

The Edge of Dementia was originally the name of my Cleveland BBS system back in the days before the World Wide Web. Today, it is the name for my Photoblog, and it was also my original flickr name. I am just an amateur photographer with a digital camera and a flickr account, but I do have a passion for photography. My preferred models have fur, but occasionally my family and friends allow me to shoot them as well. Please take a moment to rate this lens, and stop and say hello, if you have time. I love meeting new people. Especially those who share my interest in animals and photography.
