How to add large photos and audio to your lens

I've been creating Squidoo lens for the past month. It is frustrating to upload an image and find that it is restricted to a small thumbnail size. I tried contacting Squidoo help but they are too busy to respond. I don't blame them with all the lens that people are creating. I must commend the Squidoo team for a wonderful tool. I just improved it. This technique is free and it will also work with any blogs that you create. Have fun adding your fabulous images! -Jack Lee My photo album

Global Warming Solutions

It seems to me that global warming solution has been pigeonholed into one outcome and that we are asked to accept this on blind faith by "expert" scientists. The current thinking is that recent global warming trends has been due primarily to fossil fuel usage by humans and that the increase CO2 in the upper atomsphere has created a "greenhouse" effect which is increasing our global temperature at a faster rate than normal. The preferrred solution seems to be to force our global communities to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and conserve and to develop cleaner renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind power... Al Gore's Inconvient Truth Movie What I'm suggesting with this lens is to take a fresh look at this problem and then search for all possible solutions to this complex problem. This may be a shot in the dark or it may take us where we've never considered. Please keep an open mind and take the poll at the end.

Recently, I came across a few posting on SquidU about people accidentally deleting their lens or due to some bug. To avoid future headache, once you have created your lens and are happy with the content, I recommend you take a few extra minutes to back it up on your computer hard drive. One you have this, you will be able to recover any mishap.

Chapter 1: The Art of Fencing

My name is Jack Lee. I was a fencer from 1969-1982. I started in College and took an elective PE course in fencing during my freshmen year. I was asked by the instructor to join the JV team who happens to be the JV coach. Later, I was good enough to make it to the Varsity team. I have great teammates and some of whom are friends to this day and some of whom are still active in Senior competitions. Fencing is one of a few competitive sports that can be enjoyed from teenage till senior age 70's. I was also fortunate to have two very excellent coaches(Edward Lucia and Mastro Niederkirchner). In 1987, I was inducted to the CCNY Alumni Athelete Hall of Fame for Fencing. It was a great honor. My weapon of choice is the epee. Therefore, most of what I say here relates to the Epee fencing techniques. Fencing has been described as playing chess on your feet. It requires skill and agility and cunning and strategy... Have fun and enjoy this great sport! I have decided to start a blog at the end of this lens describing my experiences coming back to fencing after 25 years. Hope you will check back periodically to read about my progress. Don't forget to leave me some feedback.

I have been searching for a solution to the current Iraq war. I created this lens to assemble some ideas and proposals. It is comprised of existing proposals that I've found in the public arena and some of my own ideas. You are welcome to comment, offer your own solutions and vote for your favorite. Whether you are for or against going to war in Iraq, we are all in the same boat now and we should do our best to find a solution now. We owe it to our soldiers and to the Iraqi people. -Jack Lee email: jackclee99@gmail.com

How bad is it in 2008?

Recently, I heard a US Senator carrying on about how bad things are getting... In addition, I read a statistic that the American people reported the worst sentiment in 26 years... The news media also reports negative stories about the economy.
I began to ask myself, how bad is it really?
I've been living in the US since the early 60's.
That's a 40 plus years of living history.
Here is my perspective.

This lens is to help promote the artist photographer - Jonathan Hyman. I first met Mr. Hyman at the 5th year anniversary of 9/11. I was a volunteer at the photo exhibit featuring Mr. Hyman's work. I was impressed by his honesty and his eye for the American experience. Right after 9/11, he went around the country and photographed the various memorials and tributes that individuals were making. He captured the moment in time and the emotions after the worst terrorist attack on our nation. Let's hope we will never forget. Thanks to Jonathan, we won't.

About 10 days ago, a new feature called SquidAngel was instituted on Squidoo. It is a brilliant concept. Here are my top 5 reasons: 1. It will improve the quality of lens. 2. It will drive more traffic to the lens. 3. It will create renew excitement among lensmasters. 4. It will improve the lensrank by adding a human touch instead of strictly relying on some algorithm. 5. It settles, once and for all, the question of the "importance" of lensrank. If lensrank is unimportant, there would be no need for SquidAngels... Before I procceed, I will state up front that I am a member of 12 SquidAngels. I only wish there were more SquidAngels. -Jack Lee (May 11, 2007)

Secular Progressive Test

Secular Progressive is a term coined by Fox News Commentator and best selling author Bill O'Reilly. His new book "Culture Warrior" defines the current struggle between traditionalists and SP's. It is a very clear battle line. I have come up with a list of questions that will clearly separate the Traditional thinking and SP thinking. Perhaps, you may think you are in one camp but may be more closely to the other or vice-versa. Take the test and add up your score.

How to create panorama photos

Here is a step by step information on how to create any panorama images. All you need is a digital camera and a software that is usually provided as part of the digital capture process. There are some scenes that a regular photograph will not do justice. Some examples are the Grand Canyon and NYC skyline. Here is how you can do it. Have fun.

When completed , it will traverse the globe in about 2 years going from port to port and city to city. You can work and live on board just like in any large city in the world. I wonder if this is a viable project. It sounds great and certainly captured my imagination!!!

I have come up with a simple calculation of lensmaster ranking. It is an average number therefore it is merely an estimate and not an exact figure. It relies on the current lens rank which is somewhat inaccurate but all we have today. It is a way to average all the lenrank into one number. It should give someone a good idea of where they stand. It only has meaning relative to other lensmasters.

The only required fields are user name and contact(enabled) or email. All other information are strictly voluntary but I will expect if you do provide the information that they be accurate and true. Thanks for participating. Please send me your information to my email address and I will append your entry to this directory. (unfortunately, there is no module that will sort alphabetically as yet). After seeing the ABC special on her new school for girls in South Africa, I am blown away by her generosity and personal connection to the project and the people. She is the epitomy of what the Horatio Algier story is about and living proof that it can happen in America. She should be the role model for all celebrities in Hollywood and New York as to what a real philantropist is and can do to effect positive changes that will have long lasting benefits. God bless you Oprah!!! And Thanks You for what you do. Leadership Academy

Go Green with GPS

This lens is about one sure way we can all do to help the environment. This past week, 2 things happened that gave me the inspiration for this lens. First, I read an article in TIME magazine (April 9th issue) The Global Warming Survival Guide - 51 things You Can Do to Make a Difference. Second, I was on vacation in Seattle visiting my brother-in-law and they just got a new portable GPS system for their car. How are these 2 things related? As I was reading the 51 things, one item (#45) talks about making right turns when you drive. The theory being that you will get there faster with less delay waiting to make the left turn and thereby saving gas and reduce CO2 emissions. I thought that was a stupid idea. When I started using the GPS to guide my travels in Seattle, I discover how easy and great this little device is. It takes the worry and the mistakes out of any road trip. Instead of #45, I would recommend Go Green with GPS. A new slogan I am coining right now. If everyone would get a GPS (approx. $500), it will save time, gas, frustration and in the process benefit our environment. How great is that?

Life on Earth is abundant. However, life in the Universe is debatable. As of now, in 2007, we have no evidence that life as we know it exist anywhere else. The big question becomes - why? Is our planet a freak accident of nature or are we the product of an Intelligent Design? I will present 10 items to make the case for the latter. As an Engineer and a Scientist, I have faith I can present a convincing case. Let me know what you think at the end. Take the poll.

I made a trip to the Reagan Library recently and was pleasantly surprised by the crowds in attendance. From the parking lots to the shops to the ticket line to the various exhibits including the Air Force One hanger, the crowds were amazing. I went on a typical Saturday morning and the weather was beautiful that day. I really enjoyed being there and want to share with you my trip and some of my thoughts on a great President and a great American.

Top three books of all times

In H.G. Wells's classic book "The Time Machine", at the end of the story, the professor picked 3 books from his personal library and went into the future to start a new civilization. The big question was which 3 books did he choose. This has peaked my curiosity and my thinking of "what if?" What if I was given that choice, what three books of all times would I choose. It is a philosophical question and one that really does not have any practical use. Never the less, it forces one to think. After you have read my choices and the reason, I hope you will append your choices if different in my guestbook. -Jack

Advice to Funding Organizations

I created this lens to help organizations such as the Gates Foundation to better streamline their process of funding charities. I have been a volunteer with Nabuur for abour 6 months. I have gone through the process of solicitating of funds for a good cause. In this process, I have learned some knowledge of how the current system works or don't work. My advice here is strictly my own. I hope I am providing much needed information to both institutions that may provide funding and other groups seeking funding.

I decided to create this lens to share them. Even though there are over 200 lens related to Seattle, you will not find the information on this lens. It speaks to the variety of interesting topics that Seattle has to offer. Hope you enjoy my lens.

In my recent discussions with some friends, I realized that my whole premise is wrong in assuming that they understood history and the significance of the American experience. In some people's mind, our country is on equal footing with other nations around the world. They object to the arrogance that some Americans belief that we have the greatest country in the world. I decide to create this lens and make the case for American Supremacy. Some people do know this but claims that we are on the down trend. George Soros recently wrote a book called "The bubble of American Supremacy". I think he is wrong.

This is my first and only attempt at writing a book. I wrote this starting in September of 2005 and finished around February of 2006. Originally, it was just in MS Word format and really written for my own satisfaction. After discovering Squidoo, I thought this might be a better medium for my writing. This might just be the first book every published within Squidoo. I am coining a new term "squidbook". Since this is relatively long for a single lens, I decided to create a separate lens for each chapter with links to the index page and links to the previous Chapter and the next Chapter. Thanks for checking in and please feel free to comment. I welcome constructive criticism. Author: Jack C. Lee email: jackclee@optonline.net Started February 2007 - Finished May 15, 2007

Recently, global warming is in the news and the public is asked to cut down on fossil fuel usage to reduce CO2 emissions. I think it is a good idea to protect our environment regardless of the reason whether global warming or not. These are two different issues. We are given stewardship of the Earth and it is our duty and responsibility to take care of it. That includes the animals, the plants and the resources. We should respect nature and harness it for our benefits but not abuse that priviledge.

Recently, I have come to the conclusion that Squidoo is at a critical point in its development. As lensmasters, we can help in more ways than one. It is well known that the Squidoo staff, though brilliant, are swamped with work. This is the price you pay for popularity. They could use some help. Squidoo, being a "co-op" can really use our talents and skills to smooth over the bumps and pave a path to success.

After 25 years away, I am taking up fencing as a Vet. 50-59 group and joined a club in Westchester - FAW. Modern fencing is one of only a few sport that accommodate seniors in a real competitive environment. It is possible to fence well into the 60's and still be competitive. I hope you enjoy this book and learn the Art and Sport of Fencing. -Jack Lee (2007)

One way to approach life's problems is to separate and classify the problem into three categories.
1. The answer is black and white and easily solved given sufficient resources. Sometimes, the answer is already established and yet some just won't recognize it and keep searching...
2. The problem is not easy and may have various solutions depending on what your goals are. For the sake of easy identification, we will call these problems "grey".
3. There is no answer to this class of problems at the moment and no amount of resources will change that. We need to avoid wasting time and resources on this and concentrate on number 2.

Group Think and Intellectual Laziness

Recently, I saw a TV program where an experiment was conducted on College students where they were asked to participate in a food taste test. However, the real object of the test was to see how people are influence by their peers. The results were fascinating and demonstrate the power of Group Think. I also chose to link this to the term Intellectual laziness because this group think lends itself to being lazy. Instead of doing some research on a particular topic, it is easier to just accept the consensus. That is the danger. I will use several examples of this to demonstrate the current problem.

There has been quite a bit of Walmart bashing lately and I am just trying to even the playing field. Walmart does a lot of good for all families by keeping prices low and providing products that people want. I have no agenda in creating this lens. I don't own their stock but I do shop in their stores. I just want a fair presentation of the facts and let the truth speak for themselves.

A Tribute to Secretary Rumsfeld

This is a well deserve tribute to a great American hero. He has served his county with honor and distinction and he has suffered great criticism by his detractors. He has made our military stronger and our country safer and for that I am grateful. Recently, he has been vilified unfairly for fighting in an unpopular war in Iraq. By no means he is perfect. He has made mistakes as we all have. Ultimately, I believe history will be kinder to this man. He is following in the footsteps of some of our great leaders. May God bless Mr. Rumsfeld.

After a 25 years pause, I returned to fencing and discovered not much has changed in the area of electrical scoring system. My first thought was to apply the new wireless technologies to replace the existing reels. It can open up a new free format fencing that is not restricted to a strip. I started researching this topic and discovered several companies that have invested time and energy into this already. I even found a company with a working solution.

How I became a Squidoo addict?

A few months ago, I was enjoying my early retirement from IBM and I happen to come across a site called Squidoo. It was different from other web sites that I've seen. For some reason, it was appealing to me and I thought I should register. Besides, it was free and I can help some charities. That was the hook. Now, I am totally sold on this new concept of "permission marketing". Now, after 80+lenses later, I am totally hooked. I will try and describe my experience with Squidoo over the last few months. It may take a while but I promise it would be educational if not entertaining. -Jack Lee March 2007. Breaking News*** Today March 15, 2007 - Squidoo has reached 100,000 lens.

Election 2008

Now that the primaries are over, it is time to get down to business. For me, the next Presidential election comes down to one "big" issue. If the next president don't get this one right, it doesn't matter what happens to health care or gas prices or global warming or immigration or sub prime mortgages...
The one key area is of course national security.
Here is one question which I hope both candidates will be asked in the coming months. Their answers will reveal to me who is the right choice in 2008.
It is as simple as that.

Thanksgiving day is an American holiday. Yet, many people have a miss understanding about the importance of this holiday. They also forgot who they are thanking. It is not about the Indians or the Turkey but about thanking Almighty God for our blessings.

News Media

News are presented through the eyes and the lens of the reporter and the editors. Most of us are unaware of their bias and agenda. In some cases, even the reporter themselves are clueless to their own bias. They tend to blur the line between straight news reporting and news commentary and editorial. The public's opinion are often shaped by the news they hear and their sources. It is critical that we know where they are coming from and judge them accordingly. Two watchdog of the media - Media Matters Media Research The important thing to know about "media bias" is that they really believe that they are not biased. They think they (the elites) are the normal and the rest of Red America are out of touch. From that perspective, they are center and the Red America are extreme right.

I've been a Conservative all my adult life. I am disappointed in the way the media portrays conservatives and how our ideas are miss represented. I am distressed at how Conservative politicians/celebrities are demonized and their true contributions distorted. This lens is trying to set that record straight. I will define what I mean by conservatism. I am proud of my beliefs and I stand by them. Let the record of history validate these ideals as Ronald Reagan did with his Presidency.

It was during the 2006 mid term elections that I started to create a few lens on politics. It seems to me that our country has lost some of the civility that comes from public service. The politics of personal destruction and rhetoric is just over the top. Our system has been corrupted by spin meisters, money, PACs, 527 groups and the internet bloggers. Even the media has lost its way and instead of being the watchdog of our public officials, they have joined in the frey and taken sides. We need a new direction and a new revival of personal interest in participation of the election process. Every one who could vote should vote. However, they should be an informed voter.

This lens is about exposing businesses that are fraudulent and prey on unsuspecting customers. The power of the web has created a new opportunity to deal with these scam artists. I am coining a new term called "denial marketing". That is providing information that are relevant to customers or potential customers to prevent them from being scammed. At the same time, deny business to these "companies" and in the process help the rest of the businesses succeed.

The United Nations was to be the best hope for mankind. It was suppose to keep peace, instill justice and help the poor and hungary. It was a dream and a vision that fail to materialize and live up to the promise. Who is to blame? and why has it failed so miserbly? No doubt some of the UN agencies have done good. However, that is not good enough. There are many charities and non-profit organizations doing similar type of work and producing results. The UN has a unique role and yet it has failed in it's primary duties. Let's try and fix it for the sake of the world population. United Nations

Lingzhi Tea: The Best No-diet Ever

It works for me. I lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks of use. (from 178 to 171 lb.) This is not really a diet program. It is a combination of tea and pill. The pill is a concentrated form of the tea. It also has natural fiber within. By drinking the tea all day long and taking the pill, you feel full and therefore naturally eat less at each meal. The only side effect I noticed is dry mouth during the day. It also cleanse your digestive system. That is why it is marketed as a detox tea. You can eat whatever you wish just like before. No dieting. You can stop when the desired weight loss is attained.
