Christian Worship Music

Praising God with music is something that we are taught to do in the Bible. In Ephesians 5 St. Paul says that we should address one another "in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart" and in Colossians 3 we are told to sing "psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God". I've put together some of my favourite worship songs for you to enjoy, so turn up your speakers and sing along and praise God.

The Parables of Jesus Christ

Anybody who has read the first four books of the New Testament will know that one of the most common teaching tools used by Jesus during his ministry was the parable. There are a total of 33 different parables recorded in the books of the Gospel, with 17 of them included in the Gospel of Saint Matthew, 5 in Mark, and 23 in Luke. This lens will explain what a parable is, and where to find the parables of Jesus Christ in the Bible.

The Parable of the Sower

The Parable Of The Sower is one of the parables that is recorded in all three of the so called synoptic gospels. The account here is from Mark 4:1-20 but you will also find the parable - which is sometimes called The Parable Of The Four Soils or The Parable Of The Seed - recorded in Matthew 13:1-23 and Luke 8:4-15. It is one of the few parables that Jesus explained to his disciples, which makes it a particularly significant parable. As with all of Jesus parables, what it says and what it means are two different things. Jesus lived in an agrarian culture and so he used agricultural terms to teach his followers because He knew these were terms that they would be familiar with. When a farmer plants seeds, the results of his labors depend to a large extent on the environment, in particular the soil itself. Jesus used this example to teach his followers that God's Word works in much the same way - the fruit that his Word brings forth in our lives depends very much upon how receptive we are to it Ostensibly, it's a story about sowing seed, but really it's a story that illustrates different reactions to the message of the gospel. Let's read Mark's account of the parable and then consider what it means.

The Sermon On The Mount was a sermon given on a mountainside by Jesus Christ to his disciples and a large crowd. Christians throughout the world regard it as Jesus's instructions on how to live a Christian life and as such the sermon is considered to be the new testament version of the ten commandments given to Moses. It can be found in the Gospel of Matthew chapters 5 to 7 where it begins "Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:" (ESV)
