Modern Catholic Prophecies, Miracles and Apparitions

In recent history, apparitions by the Blessed Virgin Mary have been reported in unprecedented numbers, forms, and places. Many people mock them. Others disregard them as anti-intellectual. Still others explain them through New Age ideas of spiritual intentions of huge groups of people showing up, at the same time, with the same 'created reality', all seeing the same thing. However, there are some apparitions that are neither easy to explain, nor easy to mock. The messages come true. What does it mean? One proven and validated series of apparitions (Rwanda) had messages that were terrifying when told, horrifying when they came to pass. The Fatima apparitions predicted another world war, even though WWI was supposed to be the 'war to end all wars'.' In these apparitions, Mary predicted the spreading of the errors of communism, if mankind didn't turn to God and renounce sin. We did, in fact, have another world war after the first one, and more besides. While communism seemed to have fallen discredited, it was not eliminated, but has since grown in power and wealth all throughout the world. The terrors of this century just past were unprecedented in human history, and we're rapidly heading into worse. In places all over the globe, Our Lady is working very hard to get our attention. We owe it to ourselves and each other to at least take an intelligent look at some very stunning phenomenon. Why on earth are these things going on?

Take a close look at the facts and specs that follow. This corvette is amazing!

Paula Deen :: Food Network Celebrity Chef

"You know it's a good recipe if it starts with a stick of butter." -from the Paula's Home Cooking episode titled Cajun Cooking. Paula Ann Groover, better known as Paula Deen (born Paula Ann Hiers on January 19, 1947), is a cook, restaurateur, writer, and TV personality who lives in Savannah, Georgia. She owns The Lady & Sons restaurant in Savannah, and runs it with her sons, Jamie and Bobby. She has also published four cookbooks. She is known for rising from the adversity of divorce and agoraphobia to become a successful businesswoman. -Wikipedia Sure, everybody remembers the butter. Or her quaint "Southern Ways", but I can tell you - having grown up in the South, Ms. Deen is an example of a true "Belle". Being a "belle" has nothing to do with culture or upbringing. It's pure attitude, gentleness of spirit and true hospitality. Make everyone welcome. If you're from here, you'd understand. If you're not, Ms. Deen is the best example out there of the true south.

The Amish celebrate Christmas in the time honored Christian manner, with a clear focus on the birth of Christ. Like everything else, though, they bring a simplicity that was completely overwhelmed in the greater world. This lense gathers information about how the Amish celebrate Christmas, the foods they eat at these gatherings, what they think about the season, their traditions, and some of the decorations they make for us. It is a work in progress, so mark it as a favorite and check back!. I have the benefit of being close with some Amish families who share their lives, their beliefs and their work so generously. It is the things these families share with me that brings the perspective I bring to you here.

Amish Recipes

There is a lot made of certain Amish recipes, and it seems that every Amish recipe book and site has the same ones. That list is so short that it is a miracle the Amish can survive on such a limited diet! The truth is that the Amish have far more recipes than are widely known, and if you like Amish food, you may like some of the other things they make. Good Food begins with really UNDERSTANDING food, and who understands food better than those who work with it from its very beginning than the Amish? The Amish grow their own food, raise their own meat, and create their own dairy products. They do this in the old traditional way, without hormones and chemical additives. All of these recipes work best with FRESH and locally or home-grown foods. You can get them at your local farmer's market. At this site, I am bringing you the recipes that an actual Amish farm family (Mr. & Mrs. C) use, that provide a healthy and well balanced diet to all of them. I have added some hard to find Amish foods so you can try them without having to make them from scratch. Wonderful stuff! I am creating a 'squidbook' with loads of great Amish recipes, from great Amish cooks, which will be very easily accessed from here. So mark it as a favorite and check every so often! Some really terrific developments with the best Amish recipes are on the way!

They too are a complicated people. I hope you find something useful and interesting here, on my core lens about a people and an American culture that I dearly love.

Ten Quick Steps to Destroy America

Is it possible that fascism has actually been responsible for the economic problems America is now grappling with? Is it possible to hide fascistic actions in our very powerful, very intrusive government? How would you describe Fascism? Should be be afraid of it? Can we fight it if we see it coming? Can anything be done?

Important questions in this day and stage of American history!

In response to a friend who had survived Hitler's transformation of Germany from Democracy to Fascism, Naomi Wolf studied these transformations in various countries- Italy with Mussolini, Germany with Hitler, and so on. What she found is that there are TEN STEPS that each of these used to destroy democracy and turn those countries over to dictatorship and WAR.

This has nothing to do with 'opinions,' 'party' or 'politician'- fascists don't even need to be in the majority. Hitler began this process when he was barely a blip on the democratic Germany's political radar. It was a democracy, like ours, when he began- and yet look what he was able to accomplish in so short a time!

In the case of America, all the signs point to fascism just around the corner in a manner the world has never seen before. With Sci-Fi Weapons against the people being developed or actually in use, and with WEAPONIZED RFID CHIPS soon to be ready for mass implantation, the stakes are the highest, the danger the greatest, average people simply could not imagine their beloved America could be doing ANY of this!

This game has been occurring RIGHT UNDER OUR EYES for twenty years. We are at a critical juncture. Get this wrong, and we'll end up with a Hitler or Stalin HERE. Get it right, and we'll STILL have to fight to get, and keep, our country.

Before Erte, women were stuck in Victorian Era clothing- corsets, button up boots, voluminous skirts, high neck collars. It took some vision to change that!

Erte, a Russian Artist, had a special view of women. The way Erte looked at women, drew them, envisioned them, sculpted them, made me believe I was born in the wrong decade!

He saw the power of the female form, the hourglass shape, the elegance of length and accessorization; femininity without the ridiculous.

What woman wouldn't want to be seen the way this man saw them! His art deco designs, arrangements of clothing, color and environments, and the long, tall and cool roaring twenties style, I believe was instrumental in the movement to see women as equal, beautiful and special. He defined the elegance of Hollywood, nightclubs, adult womanhood, and haute couture. Where would the art deco/nouveau style, Hollywood's greatest actresses and movies; and France's style industry, be without Erte?

About 20 km outside of Grenoble, deep into the French Alps near the Italian border, is a beautiful hidden little hamlet called La Bérarde. I spent some time there, exploring the life and food of the French, outside of the tourist areas. Not only most of the streets, but many of the homes, are cobblestone, and all are nestled against the mountains or tightly juxtaposed in the few flat areas. Tall French windows, nouveaux wrought iron, baguettes, cheese and fresh flowers. You can find stone Roman aquaducts that make their way through the mountains, still working, still bringing the freshest water anywhere to their destination cities. The people use utensils in their kitchen which they dearly love, Berard olivewood and La Guiole (The Bee) Cutlery. The Bee is the main symbol of France's greatest King, Louis XIV, the Sun King. These cutlery pieces, each with the King's Bee, have a long and cherished history in France. The fact that La Berarde is near to the Dauphin's own castle, and near the Bastille, adds to the depth of history and heritage the French feel in their homes, their architecture and their cooking.

Amish School Shooting

The horrible tragedy of the Amish school shooting is surely a defining event for that community in the modern age. It has also raised the question, "What kind of country has America become?" The massacre has sent shockwaves throughout America, and even through the world, and the generous and heartfelt support for the Amish victims, their families, and the Amish community at large is a hopeful sign of how Americans care for one another. Another question that has been raised is, "Where is God in all of this?" When I was at university, this question was raised in theology class. The professor answered, "God is where the suffering is." God is with the Amish people. This lense is dedicated to assembling all the information relevant to this horrifying event, for the purposes of making it available to anyone who needs it. I have been very blessed to know many in the Amish community, to work with them, and to share some part of their lives. They are simply the finest group of people that I have ever known. This event pierces through to the core of what it means to be Amish, and while the Amish have so graciously forgiven the perpetrator, it still represents a painful event that must be carried, grieved, and prayed about. Feel free to leave feedback as I work on this lense, give your suggestions, and even to post your sentiments to the Amish here.

Once you've had Amish popcorn, made with Amish popcorn oil and drizzled with Amish butter, well, there is just NO GOING BACK! In comparison, all other popcorns just taste stale and flat, in the same way that after you've had homemade noodles, box noodles taste like cardboard.
Amish women have a distinct but very important part to play in the Amish communities. While in the 'English' society, we might find them to be oppressed, or not liberated, this is purely a lack of understanding. As much as possible, the Amish model their lives on the best of the Christian understanding and practices. The Amish women I know are strong, beautiful women, with compassionate hearts, joyful interest in life and others, hard working. The Amish lifestyle simply couldn't continue without committed women making it work for all of them. It is a fine thing to see. This lense is being built. I plan on bringing you good information, interesting stories, and giving you a good resource about Amish women. I thank you for your patience!

Technocalypse: Scientists Proclaim Transhumanism, Nanotech & the End of the World

It wasn't long ago that our media and our scientists were ridiculing everyone who complained about RFID chips, as 'conspiracy theorists' and lunatics.

Now, however, we see that not only have scientists gone WAY, WAY BEYOND mere radio frequency identification chips, but they are using nano-technology to carry and track vast amounts of information about YOU, biological materials to make the chips part of your body, and BRAIN CHIPS to control your thinking.

The scientists ADMIT that once you receive these, you will no longer be HUMAN, but a cyborg, a 'post-human.'

What does that mean to YOU? That's what we'll explore here. You'll know. You'd BETTER know...

Carousel Horses

The wonderful carousel horses that we love so much actually had their origins in medieval war! The first known carousel was in an ancient Byzantine painting. Treasured and hidden in castles during the middle ages, carousels were used to teach knights the skills of fighting on horseback; without a base, they used to be called 'flying horses.' It wasn't too long and the concept ended up in Castle Courtyards, used to teach royal children horsemanship skills and amuse adults. Europe has many fabulous examples of gorgeous carousels. My favorite was at the La Defense Plaza in Paris. The oldest known European carousel, from 1907, was sold to Japan and placed as a featured attraction in one of their theme parks. However, most people are suprised to learn that the 'golden age' of carousels occurred in America! The addition of steam locomotion, fairy lights with electricity, a base and music, all contributed to the beautiful carousels we know, love, and little ones dream about.

I am not a number! I am a free man! In 1967, The Prisoner came to British Television, and became a cult classic. In the first of 17 episodes, we meet Number 6, a government agent who, upon resigning, wakes to find himself in a lovely village with beautiful weather all the time, well-behaved citizens and the mysterious "Rover" which prevents escape. His name is gone; he is called only "Number 6," yet he insists "I am not a number. I am a free man!" The series is the story of his unwillingness to submit, his persistance in asserting his individuality.

Mother Theresa of Calcutta

When my husband was dying of cancer, the 24 hour care he would need was beyond our financial means (we had no insurance, of course), and beyond my capacity. I'm a people person. A paper person. A computer person. I am NOT, and never have been, a nursing or a doctor person. From the day I woke up from a snooze in anatomy class to discover the person next to me dissecting a frog, I knew that this type of thing was not for me. Yet, this incredibly ill man, who I loved with my whole heart, was coming home alone with me, and no one else to help care for him. As I was agonizing over what to do, a novena of the late Mother Theresa's came to me in the mail. I prayed the novena and agonized. Exactly as promised, one day a change came over me. Miraculously I was able to care for this wonderful human being AS HE NEEDED TO BE. He died well, he died beautifully, he died loved, he died cared for, he died peacefully. Mother came to our rescue. I later attended her beatification ceremony at St. Peter's Basilica. I am building this page in gratitude for all Mother did. I recommend that you, too, when you need her, ask for her help. Thank you for your patience as I build this page. It takes a LOT to do this incredible woman justice.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Sacred Heart of Jesus is an ancient understanding of Jesus. John the Apostle rested his head against Jesus' heart. Of course, the heart is what we associate with our deepest loves. Jesus' heart was pierced when the soldier lanced Jesus' side with his spear, on the cross. This action, which is described in scripture, made water and blood flow from Jesus' heart. From this heart flows the blood and water that is mercy and living waters. It is the Heart of Jesus that loves us, enough to 'empty himself and take the form of a slave' and suffer and die for our salvation. Since the beginning of Christianity, the Heart of Jesus has been a topic of particular meditation, prayer and love. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, during visitations from Jesus himself, made His desire to increase devotion to His Sacred Heart known to us, and the manner in which he most appreciates being loved and honored by us. This lense will explore those, and other, things about Loving Jesus, his interactions with us, and events and places of importance. The Sacred Heart devotion has extraordinary promises with it, and is done on nine first Fridays (consecutive monthly). We will be discussing these offices of the Sacred Heart, and messages from Apparitions that relate to His Sacred Heart. From the Holy Sepulchre: Miracle of Holy Fire which happens every year

I love video games. I have to admit it. My kids love them, I love them, my husband loves them. So it shouldn't be too surprising that when we added a baby brother to the family, he picked them up quickly. At 2 1/2, he's a seasoned pro, with only occasional requests for help from a more experienced gamer. "Mama! Get da star! Get da star!" he says, thrusting a controller into my hand. These games are GameBoy Advance games. The GameBoy Micro is a smaller version of the GameBoy Advance, that fits his little hands very well. If you can find one, that's the best choice. Otherwise, the folding GameBoy Advance will work too.

Mary is not only dearly loved by Orthodox and Traditional Christians, being the handmaid of the Will of God, and also the first Christian. She is also revered as the holiest woman in the history of the world by Islam. Herein may lie the key to peace between religions, peoples, races.

RFID Chips, (radio frequency identification) are a very controversial subject for any reason. For the Amish, however, this technological development is extremely alarming. In the normal course of living, they avoid technologies as much as they can. However, numbering themselves, or their animals, to them is the 'mark of the beast,' something they cannot cooperate with under any circumstances. In two states, Wisconsin and Indiana, the voluntary national program, NAIS, has been made compulsory at the state level. The Amish have opposed cooperating with the states in chipping their animals, feeling that it is only a matter of time before the government chips humans. This lens is about this challenge facing the Amish, and us. Please remember to rate us, take the poll, and sign the guest book! On the right, you can add this lense to your favorites and email it to a friend you'd like to have see it. Watch this space because there are more events and challenges facing the Amish communities and us in the form of the North American Union.
Still Standing For Now:The Statue of Liberty!!!

Lady Liberty MEANS America. America MEANS Lady Liberty. This beautiful statue is a critical symbol of the heart of what the United States of America is. Emma Lazarus provided the most famous work of literature supporting immigration in her 1883 poem, The New Colossus. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore", cries the Statue of Liberty with "silent lips". It seems we need symbols to remind us of what is important, what can be taken for granted, what could be lost. Lady Liberty is one such reminder, one thing taken for granted, one thing that can easily be lost, one thing that can be taken down. For Lady Liberty to disappear would be an incalculable loss for the entire world.

If you have a story about an experience of an angel or a demon, and you want to see it here, click the 'contact me' link on the right.

My original photos are from the Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak MI- one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the world. Its an awesome place to worship and pray!

Welcome to the world of advertising. It's really simple. An ad is seen. It triggers a response in the customer. The customer buys. Pretty simple huh? The problem is that the average American consumer is pummeled with over 3,000 messages per day. Of that number, less than 3% actually resonate with the consumer. Of those 30 or so messages only 2 or 3 will get through to the intended audience. >.3%-why is that? The landscape of advertising is changing. Why, because consumers are changing. Gone are the days when people accepted corporate messages. The average high school student can sniff out a bogus ad message faster than you can say "plop, plop, fizz, fizz". Further, the definition of an ad is changing. Case in point-Burger King's widly successful Subserviant Chicken. This was not advertised at all, but quickly became the hallmark of viral marketing from the genius think tank that is Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Further, if you are reading this, you are part of the explosive number of internet users who are doing their own research. You are ignoring ads. You are going out, looking at the numbers and are seeking advice. Sometimes blindly. This lens is designed to at least attempt to arm you with basic information on advertising. While I won't be able to answer all of your questions here, you'll have a good starting point for moving forward. Each link below will take you to rich resources to aid you in your fact finding quest.

Amish Children

Amish children are an interesting topic, and some of them have recently come into the news for their self-sacrificing bravery. I have the benefit of knowing (and loving) some Amish children, who have been welcoming and joyful. They are a central part of the Amish community, and virtually everything the Amish do is in consideration of their children. While all of us care about our kids, actually being with families and seeing normal daily interactions, I can see that our larger society has lost something very important somewhere along the way. This lense is evolving from what the Amish make for their children, to one where information about Amish children is the central focus. Thanks so much for your patience~

Michelangelo Buonarroti

"I cannot live under pressures from patrons, let alone paint.'' -- Michelangelo, in Vasari
Michelangelo's work is much different, and far more precious and impressive in person. I found them to be deeper, more super-real, more powerful and 'terrible' in person than seeing them in books.

In fact, the Sistine Chapel was such a powerful experience for me, that I actually felt I was standing in Michelangelo's lifelong prayer- a prayer I wanted to offer up myself and couldn't because of the noise of the tourists. Perhaps one day...

It strikes me as strange- Michelangelo is so well known for his paintings, but he did not consider himself a painter- just a sculptor. Either way, there has been nobody better at both!

Coach has been part of my lifestyle since I was old enough to buy my own purses. They are not only incredibly well made, but usually their styles become classic looks that survive year by year, not too trendy and 'little girl-ish.' Recently, with new designers, techniques and materials, the usefulness and details of Coach handbags and purses have really escalated their usefulness. All of our new gadgets find a secure and attractive place in Coach handbags, purses, and wristlets, all making sure our look, and our functionality, is truly 21st century.
Amish Religion

The Amish religion take several forms and it can be confusing to sort out the different orders, how they relate, and why some are using technologies that other groups do not. In some ways, the Amish are much like Catholic religious orders, with a rule of life, distinctive clothing, and a separation from society except to bring Christ to a suffering world. Just like Catholic religious orders, too, each one is different and some are more involved in modern society than others. Most of the similarity to the Catholic Church ends there, except in certain foundational beliefs shared by all Christians. Here we will bring you information about the Amish religion- history, relationships to and with other Christians, beliefs and how they are applied in the world today.
Saint Sister Faustina

Sister Mary Faustina, an apostle of the Divine Mercy, belongs today to the group of the most popular and well-known saints of the Church. Through her the Lord Jesus communicates to the world the great message of God's mercy and reveals the pattern of Christian perfection based on trust in God and on the attitude of mercy toward one's neighbors. Born on August 25, 1905 in Glogowiec in Poland, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy on August 1, 1925; she took the name Sister Mary Faustina. Although her life was apparently insignificant, monotonous and dull, she hid within herself an extraordinary union with God. Sister Faustina was a faithful daughter of the Church which she loved like a Mother and a Mystic Body of Jesus Christ. Conscious of her role in the Church, she cooperated with God's mercy in the task of saving lost souls. At the specific request of and following the example of the Lord Jesus, she made a sacrifice of her own life for this very goal. In her spiritual life she also distinguished herself with a love of the Eucharist and a deep devotion to the Mother of Mercy. The Lord Jesus chose Sr. Mary Faustina as the Apostle and "Secretary" of His Mercy, so that she could tell the world about His great message. The mission of the Blessed Sr. Mary Faustina was recorded in her Diary which she kept at the specific request of the Lord Jesus and her confessors. Faustina was beatified on April 18, 1993 and canonized on April 30, 2000 Source: MARY FAUSTINA KOWALSKA Photo credit: Amazon

I've had lenses up for awards. Because of my Squidoo pages I've been contacted by journalists, writers, television casting agents and so many others. I've earned money. I've bought Squidoo lenses and I've sold Squidoo lenses.

I suppose I know almost as much about Squidooing as anyone else here.

Our pets are exposed to all the chemicals we are, and maybe even more. Thankfully, the Amish have created an organic pet food business, using their free range chicken, hormone, antibiotic and pesticide free, and using organic grains from their own farms. You won't find healthier animals than the Amish have, and they have kept them healthy with a great diet in the same way for hundreds of years. They are sharing this with us now! Because of the poisoned pet food tragedy I have included other links lower down the page to suppliers of safe foods. You may add any links that you have found to be good, reliable and trustworthy. Read THIS before you buy any more commercial food! My deepest sympathy to anyone who has lost a pet this way. (8800- oops, now 9400 and counting? My brother lost two...) Please let me know if there are any boycotts forming, any community action projects to demand an end to imported foods that we can, and should be, raising ourselves in America- "The World's Breadbasket?".

I lost my husband and father to cancer. There are so many others who are suffering from it, fighting it, suffering from the treatments, so many so desperate for something that may help.

For years we have seen little or no progress in America's ways and means of treating cancer. We've spent HUGE amounts of money on research and development and still haven't gotten very far.

In Canada, after years, they approved the patent as this product after rigorous testing and proving. This is offered in Europe as a hugely effective alternative to other means of treating cancer.

Now it is available for the first time in the United States.

It seems, though, no matter what we do, the antiwar people are on the losing side. What do I mean?

Afghanistan... Iraq... Iran???

What are the facts about this bizarre, and very dangerous, relationship with China- a threat but an ally?

How did we get here? What's next? Who is behind this???

How far does this War-On-Terror go? And how will it end- if it ever does? The Saudis think this won't end for another 30 to 40 years. McCain wants it to go on for another HUNDRED or more!

Because the Psalms of King David are all about Sovereign Service to God, its practice, motivation, depth and breadth, it necessarily lays out right from the beginning the choices every soul in time and eternity is faced with. As in human courts of human kings, NOT EVERYONE IS PERMITTED TO DIRECTLY SERVE THE PERSON OF THE KING. Those who do so are highly respected and honored. I am working on this page and will have additional translations, commentary and other information soon! Thanks for your patience!

Hair Loss Medical Info, Helps & Remedies

It can be shocking to discover that what once was normal hair loss that recovered normally without any help at all, one day becomes a permanent loss that is difficult or impossible to overcome. Some things simply can't be helped, such as the hair loss effects of certain medical treatments. In cases like that, the hair loss is temporary, but its texture and thickness may be permanently changed when it grows back. Remedies and products for hair loss, scalp treatment, and restoration have come a very long way over the last few years. Attitudes about hair have also changed, and so, between those things, a person can deal with their hair situation much better, without a shocking blow to the self-esteem.

Eccentricity :: Margaret Schaut

I've often been told I'm 'eccentric', and the older I get, the worse it seems to get. As I age, though, the less it bothers me. Eccentricity: 1. the quality of being abnormally centered... 2. the quality or habit of deviating from what is usual or customary....

I'm over- and under- qualified for nearly everything! Thank goodness Squidoo doesn't even ask about such things or I'd probably be in trouble AGAIN.

So, now you have it- a close look at my face which has been a big mystery for about two years. Is it even close to what you had imagined?

Delorean, long admired for his great work in the automobile industry and his vision and designs of fabulous cars, excited everyone with his new venture: Delorean Motor Cars. The industry desperately needed his vision, though the Big Three would never admit that and didn't try to make a deal at the right times. We could still have these, and they could, by now, be the real car of the future... The result was predictably hideous, especially for Mr. Delorean. Like other visionaries, he was unable to see what was coming, and he pushed his dream through. And like other visionaries, he paid a terrible price.

Average people now understand concepts like brazing, carmelization and searing.
Catholic Catechism

Basically the Catholic Catechism is an elaborate Apostle's Creed. Each line of the Creed is a portion of the book called The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and explaining what the Apostles taught, the traditions they passed down to the Church, and how the doctrines relate is the substance of the Catechism.

It is taught in many ways, to every age group, but it always begins with the most basic Creed of Christianity. From there it moves into the Seven Sacraments, Commandments, Beatitudes, and finally, prayer.

300 The Movie Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy. This last sentence is of course rubbish as the Spartans were famously governed by an oligarchy and were very much the antithesis of Athenian democracy.

The Rosary is a huge topic, mainly because there are so many Catholics in the world. In the non-Catholic world, there are many objections to praying the rosary. These are good questions, valid objections to consider. This lense hopes to address these concerns, encourage deeper prayer by all Christians, and perhaps increase understanding among religions. The Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a profound and beautiful method of prayer, used for centuries. There probably isn't another thing which so prominently identifies a person as a Catholic. Please share your prayer list, or your rosary stories, or anything else you wish at the bottom of the page. We would love to hear from you!

Burlwood is from the root system of mature trees. Its grain is a bubbly circular set of small rings- an interesting, prized, beautiful and very expensive look. Any furniture quality tree can give burlwood: maple, mahogany, some are darker looks and some are lighter. All are deep and gorgeous. I have gathered together a terrific selection of burlwood. There are lamps, personal accessories, humidors, jewelry boxes, gifts. In a companion lens I have burlwood dash trim kits in both wood: burlwood, mahogany, and in wood look-alike easy care vinyl for nearly all makes and models of cars. If you love burl, you've found the place to look!

Ancient Psalms & Manuscripts

The Psalms have an astonishing history and have played a profound role in the development of humanity, how we understand humanity, and our relationships with God, the world and each other, since they were first written. They are also an important marker of change. Our modern way of understanding the world is VASTLY different than at any other historical period, in very important ways. The Psalms are inadvertently a barometer of the change. Originally written by King David, the first Israelite King, they have continuously been considered to be the Prayer of the Holy Spirit of God. The word 'inspiration' means 'God-breathed,' and as we pray the psalms, we are praying what God has breathed into humanity as HIS form of prayer. Jesus himself prayed the psalms as did all the Hebrews. We repeat His words, in His Spirit, when we pray the Psalms. This is one of the great contributions to the world, and to history, of the Israeli people. For all the New Age claims of having ancient wisdom, there is hardly anything in the world more ancient, and wisdom-filled, than the Psalms.

Lovely, Lonely and Haunted Lighthouses

Lighthouses! Living in Michigan, I've seen lighthouses all around the Great Lakes all my life. The Great Lakes have LOTS of Lighthouses, perhaps more per square mile than anywhere else. But since America has LOTS of coastline, there are a huge number of beloved lighthouses three sides of the US.

As it is for other people, its a sadness in my soul that they've changed so much, even become irrelevant to navigation.

When its dark on dangerous and cold waters, the presence of a lonely and cold lighthouse makes one feel like they have company, a reference point, something comforting in dark places.

Lighthouses are beacons- a symbol of hope in dark and dangerous times. They are romantic, life-sustaining, beautiful, private. There are few other architectural buildings that bring out so much of the depth of our souls!

Michelangelo Buonarroti was born March 6, 1475, in the small village of Caprese near Arezzo. He is considered to be a Florentine, and in fact, considered himself to be from Florence, because he had a great love for that beautiful city. He is the quintessential 'Renaissance Man' - thought himself a sculptor, not a painter, but did both with an incredible genius in a 'terrible' style.
Red Dragon Rising: The Chinese, Shipping & Ports of America

This is how Wal-Mart gets all its stuff from China. Get a load of this ship! 15,000 containers and a 207' beam! And look at the crew-size for a ship longer than a US aircraft carrier which has a complement of 5,000 men and officers.

Think it's big enough? Notice that 207' beam means it was NOT designed for the Panama or Suez Canal. It is strictly transpacific. Well, at least until the Panama Canal expansion is complete, which is being done to accomodate these monsters!

Check out the cruise speed: 31 knots means the goods arrive 4 days before the typical container ship (18-20 knots) on a China-to-California run. So this behemoth is hugely competitive carrying perishable goods.

This ship was built in three, or perhaps as many as five sections. The sections floated together and then were welded.

The ship is named Emma Maersk. The command bridge is higher than a 10-story building and has 11 crane rigs that can operate simultaneously.

Additional info:
Country of origin - Denmark
Length - 1,302 ft
Width - 207 ft
Net cargo - 123,200 tons
Engine - 14 in-line cylinders diesel engine (110,000 BHP) Cruise Speed - 31 knots, Cargo capacity - 15,000 TEU (1 TEU = 20 ft3 container) Crew - 13 people First Trip - Sept. 08, 2006 Construction cost - US
$145,000,000 Silicone painting applied to the ship bottom reduces water resistance and saves 317,000 gallons of diesel per year .

At Fatima, Our Lady said, "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will Triumph." The Triumph of Mary can ONLY be the Triumph of her Son, Jesus. 9 First Saturdays of the month are to be devotions in honor of Our Lady, which will be explained in the lenses below. The importance of the Immaculate Heart of Mary cannot be underestimated. If we take refuge in her heart, then we are certainly loved by Jesus, who loves his mother as only God can. With the danger of our times, and the promised chastisements for the utter corruption of the world, the messages Our Lady is giving throughout the world make it all the more imperative to work to Love God and our neighbor, and to pray, pray, pray.

Texas Wildflowers :: Lady Bird Johnson

I'm not a Texas girl. Yet one of the things that I like best about Texas are the wildflowers. With 268,000 square miles - most of it undeveloped - there is plenty of room for a riot of wildflowers! Bluebonnets, paintbrushes, phlox and salvia are just the beginning. Here's a brief introduction to Wildflowers in Texas, and Lady Bird Johnson, the First Lady of America that actively worked to conserve this terrific heritage. This introduction picture is of the Mexican Hat wildflower: Ratibida columnaris (Asteraceae) A robust, drought tolerant annual to perennial variety native to the mid west and has naturalized throughout North America. The characteristic black, cone-shaped heads are surrounded by drooping, fire-red ray flowers with a splash of yellow accent. At maturity the upright branching stems may become woody.
Has Atlas Shrugged? A Hard Look

In Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged, the INDUSTRIALISTS of the world, the ones who built the factories and invested in their own technologies, were the men she called 'Atlas' who held the 'burden' of the entire world on his shoulders.

The crux of the story is that the Atlases got sick and tired of the masses of people bleeding them dry, and they decided to 'shrug'- meaning, drop out of the social and economic system.

Its a GREAT story. And we're at the beginning of an economic crisis very similar to the one she describes in her book.

The question here is: was it those Atlases that Shrugged, or was it someone wle that bled all the producers dry and left American taxpayers holding the bag?

There are a few related discussions down below. Give your opinion on each of them that interests you.

Note: except for the ancient statue of Atlas, all the art on this page is Banksy.

Grandfather Clocks

Grandfather clocks have a long history, that corresponds with the history of time and keeping it. Craftsmen have long taken extreme pride in the handcrafting of grandfather clocks, and so many have learned to tell and count time by the rich and full bells. Germany has had a great heritage of specially made time pieces for Grandfather clocks, one of precision, durability and the beauty of polished brass and chain-pull pendulums. Many grandfather clocks have moon phases and other features that move along with the time keeping of the beautiful hand made faces. Some have doors and cabinets with drawers, hidden security spaces and movements that last anywhere from one to eight days. I have searched out a terrific selection of collectible, heirloom, antique and even bargain Grandfather Clocks so that anyone who is interested can own one. I love mine, and even though it has a 'night feature' that can turn off the rings during the night, I have found that the beautiful sounds coming from my clock are very comforting in the deepest dark of night. I get many complements on my clock- it brings back wonderful memories for so many people!

How To Pray

Prayer: what is it? Why do we do it? How do we do it? Its not something that comes naturally, at least, it can seem that way. Prayer is the longing of our deepest heart and soul, for God. From Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, to the very last human being to ever live, prayer seems to be something that springs from our souls, at least on occasion, and seems to meet a very deep need that we all share. This lense will look at why we pray, how it is done, when we pray, and what prayer achieves. As much as possible, we will be looking at the prayer life of different religions because there is NO RELIGION that doesn't advocate prayer, and there never has been a religion that could even be considered a religion without it. This lense is another work in progress, and hopefully as it is built, it will help you with your prayer life. If you want to discuss this further, or have suggestions, you are welcome to put them in the guestbook, or contact me.

The greatest mystics recommend praying them daily, and other forms of prayer like the rosary have their origin in the Psalter. Illuminated manuscripts are highly prized, very old, and generally belonged to royalty or the wealthy elite, since they were hand made, hand written and painted.

Do you have a lens that needs adoption into a good home? Need someone to nurture and care for it? Someone who will take the time to make it ALL IT CAN BE? Is it a MONSTER that got out of hand????? If your mind has gone blank on how to improve that page, or If times have changed and it just isn't relevant anymore, or If your beloved wants all your time and you can't get to your lens, or If you don't want to deal with the topic anymore, or You just need a few bucks? If you've done your job and moved on... If you're leaving Squidoo for any reason, If someone duplicated your lens and you don't want to do anything with it now, If you lost your affiliate account and can't use the page anymore... Don't let it gather dust, sell it or adopt it out to us!

St. Valentine paved the way for happy marriages by secretly dropping off the necessary dowry. Now, Valentine's Day is a time to let that special someone know how we feel about them. How do you do that?

Everyone does housewarmings. Purchasing your own home is one of the most important purchase decisions anyone can make, and everyone's good wishes, support and blessings add to the joy and excitement. Sometimes the party is for newlyweds who have received LOTS of wedding gifts already, sometimes it is for friends who have FINALLY saved enough to close on their dream home. Every party has its challenges, but with a little forethought and a few ideas, needs can get met, people can have an enjoyable time, and an occasion can be the source of memories that last a lifetime.

Seeing Akiane's paintings, astonishing and even miraculous for such a small child, is a moving experience someplace in our soul that we forgot existed. I've often wondered how child prodigies happen. Akiane is one who is occurring before our very eyes. Listening to her one can learn much about such things. The prodigies come to humanity FOR A REASON! I, for one, believe her message and her work are profoundly important in our terrible age. She has been given MUCH TO SAY about our souls, our conversions, our response to the God of Light and Prince of Peace. God is known to use the weak to confound the strong. Thank you Akiane and Thank You Lord, for such a gift to us!

There are few things on earth that are as soft and comfortable as cashmere. In the far east, in the rough mountains, kashmir goats provide a spare living for families who live a very hardscrabble life. The downy undercoat of the cashmere goats provides warmth and protection for the animals in the harshest of circumstances, and provides food and income to the people. Cashmere is suitable for every climate and every season. The natural fibers are far more comfortable in the heat than any synthetic material, and in the winter much warmer and cozier. Cashmere maintains its value, even if it is gently used. The wool is so durable and soft, and made in such classic and useful styles, that it is always a valuable investment.

For most of my life I have been afflicted with a too-small kitchen! One of the best gifts I've ever received is a beautiful iron pot and pan rack, because of the space it saves and how easy and convenient my different pots, pans and utensils are to reach.

Surprisingly, pot and pan racks have gotten much more affordable over the years, even the ones that are American made!

They come in shapes and sizes to fit in any kitchen, from the largest to the smallest. The designs are from traditional to avant garde, and the quality is hard to beat at any price.

Tridentine Mass Video Showcase

While the Novus Ordo Mass is the standard, and well loved by many, there have been so many priests and people that had been asking for permission to celebrate the Tridentine Mass, but not getting it! Recently, with the Motu Proprio, the Holy Father has given blanket permission to the priests to celebrate the Tridentine Mass if they wish and if there are sufficient numbers of parishioners who want it. The controversy has been great, with some Bishops even in open rebellion agains the Pope. "For fostering a true consciousness in liturgical matters, it is also important that the proscription against the form of liturgy in valid use up to 1970 should be lifted. Anyone who nowadays advocates the continuing existence of this liturgy or takes part in it is treated like a leper; all tolerance ends here. There has never been anything like this in history; in doing this we are despising and proscribing the Church’s whole past. How can one trust her present if things are that way? I must say, quite openly, that I don’t understand why so many of my episcopal brethren have to a great extent submitted to this rule of intolerance, which for no apparent reason is opposed to making the necessary inner reconciliations within the Church." -- Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, God and the World Since Vatican II, the Holy Mass has been said in the vernacular. Most Catholics under the age of 50 have never seen a Latin Mass. These videos will get you acquainted with how the Tridentine Mass looks, and the other resources will help you get the additional information you need.

Fundraising for Social Change

We are all affected by the society around us. Many of us are concerned about the rapid downward spiral in the society and world. Social change can be good or bad, helpful or harmful. Either way, the effects are felt by everyone, some more than others. Smaller non profit and activist groups are very passionate, have enormous commitment and do great work. They are critical to the success and application of social change, they can build communities, and are flexible enough to address needs exactly where they are the greatest. Funding, however, is perhaps the greatest challenge of all. This page is to give an overview of the basic preparation any group needs to do for fund raising and grant writing. This preparation will assist you in planning your needs, discovering opportunities, and making the most of your resources for long term viability.Where an example is needed, I use my experience with Neighborworks Community Garage (link below).

It is one thing to build your Squidoo pages in the first place. But, once you've done that, how much maintenance does it take thereafter? What SHOULD you do, and what can you forget about?

I'm hoping to answer some of those questions here!

Gingerbread Victorian Homes

Victorian Gingerbread Homes are distinctively beautiful, and one really must have a taste for that style to love it. I am researching and gathering together the best information I can find to make this a useful and interesting page for all those who love Gingerbread Victorian Houses and decor. Thanks so much for your patience!

Rembrandt

On extremely rare occasions, I get lucky. One such event was a volunteer job. While I made virtually nothing in that 18 months, there was one benefit that simply can't be bought (especially at that salary). Directly across from my desk was an original Rembrandt drawing- Christ raising Lazarus from the dead. I spent a lot of my 'free' time looking at that incredible piece, until it became part of my soul. Now, who gets that???? I am building this lense in honor of the person who convinced me that one day Christ will extend his hand over my grave and, as he raises his hand, will pull my body up and out. This lense will take some time to build well, so I appreciate your patience. Please check back often to see what's new. You are welcome to contact me with suggestions, information or questions.

Probably the most beloved and cherished of all doll houses, perhaps it is when girls are small that they develop such a great love of Victorian homes! I am building this page to be ready for the Christmas season. Thanks so much for your patience!

The Sistine Chapel

When I visit the Sistine Chapel, I am overwhelmed by the feeling that I am standing IN a prayer. Aside from the astounding artwork of Michelangelo, it tells the story of salvation in such a powerful way that it is nearly a living bible of its own. By some otherworldly coincidence, the Sistine Chapel turns out to be exactly the same size as Solomon's Temple. It is also the place where Popes are selected to lead the Catholic Church. This is a huge lense to build and I thank you for your patience!

Academy Awards 1927-1928

Louis Mayer, chief of MGM, had the brainstorm idea to give a new elegance and class to the newly budding movie industry, something exciting that the public would find of interest, and something to quell 'dissent'- censorship outcries against the too-sexy, titillating product.

You can hardly go wrong getting together a collection of all the Academy Awards winners- they may not cover every one of your favorites but it can be said that no one really understands the movie industry without seeing them.

Douglas Fairbanks was the first host for the first Academy Awards banquet, which took place May 16, 1929. It was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in the Blossom Room.

Shine A Light: Rolling Stones New Movie

We all have too many experiences of the Rolling Stones to ever see anything that surprises us... and we know too much about Scorcese's style to be shocked by his approach.

However, we love them both.

A new film by Scorcese about the Rolling Stones isn't really, well, different. It is much more intimate than most of us will ever get personally. Christine Aguilera appearance.
