Managing Stress in the Workplace

Every job has a level of stress associated with it. Some jobs are more psychologically demanding, such as Air Traffic Controllers. Others, construction workers for example, are more physically challenging.

While some careers deliver more workplace stress than others, it's how you react to it that makes all the difference. Workplace stress is usually brought on by unreasonable demands that are too large or numerous for an employee to overcome.

Deadlines that can't be met, projects that need to be completed or unsafe working conditions can cause a lot of unnecessary stress in the workplace. When one or more of these factors become constant, workplace stress is the outcome.

Having to manage stress in your workplace can have a drastic impact on your health, job productivity and overall happiness. If you get it under control, your entire life will be better. If not, you will suffer the consequences.

Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System

I have been trying a sample pack of the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System for awhile now, and I am quite amazed at the subtle but noticeable difference in how I look and how my skin feels when I daub on the products. Now the face that is obscured in the thumbnail above, by my little daughter, is a 59 year old face that has been in the sun doing construction work, frozen as a kid in the Minnesota winter, and wrinkled by lots of concentration in graduate school. It is a face that has not been pampered with any cosmetic application. I have not even used after shave or cologne since my college days, nor do I put anything on what is left of my hair. So for me to try an Optimal Skin Care System is an extraordinary trick, but the products are made by Mannatech, and I have used glyconutritionals made by Mannatech with great success since 1998, so I thought to myself, well, maybe there is something for me to learn here. So I sent off to Japan for a sample pack, and cloistered myself in the bathroom to daub on and rub in the products. I had to read the directions, some of which made no sense, like rub the product on from the bottom of the face upward, but I did it anyway. My thought was that I would use it for awhile secretly and see if my wife noticed a difference. That would be proof that it worked, if the beauty queen in her noticed a change in ol' leatherface (that is me) since I am older than she. Well, there I was one night, and in to the bathroom walked my wife as I daubed on skin cream. She did not say a word but her eyebrows raised several widths, and I saw a look of fear in her eyes, caused by who knows what thought, which was quickly masked, and I knew I was in for some ribbing. And so it has gone, my Optimal Skin Care System experiment has become fodder for family mischief. I however remain undaunted. I am going to wear one of those masks to bed soon, in hopes of silencing the guffaws. But that could backfire, when she puts on the flannel long johns.

Antioxidants are at the forefront of the news media today. Natural health magazines, blogs, and websites are all abuzz about the potent healing and protective properties of natural antioxidants.
If you want to devour the benefits nature has provided to you to help stave off disease and increase your immunity to viruses and bacterias, you'll want to read more about some of the most potent antioxidant foods and drinks, as well as why antioxidants are so important to our bodies.
The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Eat and Why A process in the body known as oxidation can lead to the production of substances called free radicals. Free radicals can cause damage to the cells, leading to premature aging - or even cancer!
Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals by stabilizing them before they can do damage to your cells. Since oxidation occurs naturally in every body, it's important to maintain a balance between oxidation and antioxidants.
There are a number of antioxidant supplements on the market, but it's also very important to get as many of these from natural foods as possible, because there are probably a great many antioxidants in foods that have not yet been discovered.

The Fit Brain

So you say that a little brain exercise will help me remember my neighbor' name and where I put my daughter, I mean my glasses, and that I will be able to get rid of the thesaurus I drag around to find the right, I mean, correct word. And maybe I will even be able to speel a little better? Poor spelling has been a bane for a long time, so let's hope for better word memory. And I am tired of constantly checking my back pocket to see if my keys are there. Is it possible?

HeartMath

HeartMath is the name of a very interesting kind of biofeedback. Think about learning to manage the time between heart beats, using a computer program, in about five to ten practices, and then being able to cue a very pleasant relaxation response when ever you want. ( Remember, you have learned it, and no longer need the computer. Your cue thought will trigger the response)! I have been using HeartMath personally and professionally since late in 2000. (It is a great parenting tool, by the way, allowing me to parent from my playfullness rather than my temper). I am a counselor, in private practice, and I work a lot with court ordered clients, who need to complete either a domestic violence protocol or an anger management protocol to complete their probation. Lots of those clients, because of what has happened to them in their lives, have reason to be suspicious, fearful, or angry routinely, and my trying to "therapize" them with Cognitive Behavioral or Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy models are met with scorn. ("Won't work in my neighborhood...ect.") However, using the HeartMath tools is a way to get around these doubts and concerns and to teach how fast thoughts impact physiology (about 1/18th second), and how subtle the influence of thought on physiology is. By increasing awareness, I am giving my clients the ability to make quicker choices, some of which may involve more peaceful conflict resolution styles. Can you imagine managing your internal chemistry literally heart beat by heart beat?

What Color is Your Parachute For Retirement?

I thought retirement meant you stopped working one day, and did not work again. You were now free to live a life of leisure, sort of like Senior Skip Day in high school, except it went on for awhile. I remember Senior Skip Day in high school. There were a bunch of kids who were told by the administration that they must attend on this very unofficial holiday, or face dire consequences for their graduation. Those of us who were not given that ultimatum set up lawn chairs across the street from the high school where all of our - still-attending-class mates could see us and knash their teeth. We were bored with that arrangement rather quickly. And I imagine I would be rather bored with retirement that did not involve some challenge too. Which is part of the point that Bolles and Nelson make in their book, What Color is Your Parachute for Retirement. They suggest that we can plan for a retirement that includes engagement, challenge, and service. Plan for it? Yeah, that is cool. So what are the talents that I want to engage in my transition? Well, I have small children, one 9, one 3, and she is a ball of fire. (Being a Leo, she needs no sleep). I am a small business owner, I am a husband, I am a budding web entrepreneur, and I love to read. I think that what intrigues me the most is the online business aspect of my life. Making money building Squidoo lenses? That is so cool. Now to figure out what it means to optimize a web page.

Clustered water and the ingredients of the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care Line

Hello All, Budding Web Entreprenuer and Frazzled Daddy here, writing again about Mannatech's Optimal Skin Care System which will be available to US customers soon. Why is the this optimal skin care system so much different from any other available already? Please read the information below to get a partial answer. The water used in the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System is different. The products have no preservatives because of Haru Naito's research. The information below will give you a partial sense of what the Optimal Skin Care System is all about. Haru Naito Renowned Water Expert & Mannatech Presidential Director “Tensa” Water hydrates skin cells more adequately than other filtered waters, providing a conduit for nourishment to the skin. Haru Naito, a world-class swimmer from Japan, journeyed to the United States in his teens as an exchange student. After competing at the collegiate level, where he became the 1973 NCAA breast stroke champion representing Oneonta College in upstate New York, Haru enrolled at the University of Indiana to pursue a PhD in Sports Physiology. Through his studies as both a scholar and an athlete, Haru discovered that water could have a significant impact on human health and performance. He began to focus all of his efforts on understanding that not all water is the same and that the unique properties of some water provide enhanced health benefits. In search of the world’s best water, Haru Naito traveled to Asia’s Hunza Valley. There, he able to study the perfect, ultra-pure water. The water in the Hunza Valley is washed through limestone, which strips the water of harmful toxins and provides mineral enrichment as well as natural preservative qualities. After careful evaluation, Haru also noted that the water in the Hunza Valley had three unique properties: 1. The water hydrates and detoxifies the body faster than other water. 2. The water contains a high concentration of negative ions, which act as a natural antioxidant. 3. The water has elevated levels of soluble minerals. After studying this remarkable water for several years, Haru was able to successfully replicate the enhanced water technology provided by nature in the Hunza Valley. Haru dubbed it “Tensa” water, which means “heavenly.” For over 15 years, Haru has provided enhanced water technologies for industries as diverse as health care and agriculture, and even adapted its use for home systems. In 2005, Haru developed a new enhancement process for “Tensa” water designed specifically for skin care products. This enhanced technology was introduced to Mannatech, and an idea for a proprietary skin care system was born. To Purchase the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System, click here.

Bookwise

December Update-Free Classic Download-Audio or E-Book-The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Frazzled Dad here, still a bit in shock about the BookWise affiliate program that Bobtheteacher introduced last night, but if it involves reading, or information gathering, I am all over it. I am a 59 year old mid-life career changer with small children and a small pension, who has envisioned retirement looking like a cup of good coffee and a good book and a quiet country porch and some fall sunshine.... I hope you get the picture. And then I could read some of the books I have stacked up on my floor or in my office. My mom took me to the library as a little boy and introduced my to Alice in Wonderland. While I was not too intrigued by Alice at that time,I did get hooked on reading and have been ever since. We always had Readers Digest condensed versions of current novels on hand, and I would read by the hour. And now I have professional texts that are astounding in their implications, because of our technological advances. I love to share that knowledge with my clients. For example, recent work on stress hormones and children's brains has allowed me to demonstrate to my domestic violence clients that their behavior impacts their children invisibly, but forever. Some of those clients take that information very seriously because they take their parenting seriously. Without books, or journals, I never would have had that information for them. There are also Peak Performance books out there, and some incredible work on things like HeartMath or heart rate variability biofeedback and memory training which can help us all move to a more effective and harmonious performance, and now I can get paid to share that information. Oh, and the business books....I learned on the call last night that I can have my annual stockholders meeting at my house and charge the "very significant" expense for a large sausage and mushroom pizza for the Board of Directors (me) to my corportation. And I will have documentation for my accountant. Bookwise actually makes that tax deduction much more viable. What if I were to film a YouTube video at my home the same day and post it to my lens, a video about my Bookwise website, for example. Well, the time and expense of that, at least as I heard the explanation, could be a tax deduction, because I could charge my S corporation for that expense, and for the sausage and mushroom pizza too. In fact, their is an entire tax education series of lectures available to affiliates. And that is just the beginning of what is available to those who act now. And you will need to know Squidoosecrets too! Check this out, Squidooers. Also please look over the Amazon plexo below. Those titles were produced by the founders of Bookwise.

Transformation-Change-Growth-Wellness in Retirement

I am never going to get to do the kind of retirement where one sits on the porch, rocking, and grousing about the neighborhood kids getting on the grass. Thank God. I am 59 and the father of little ones, which means my last high school graduation will be at age 74, and I might still be on the hook for college until I am 78. While I have not so much money today, I get to do many things that I love, like bathe and dress my little girl, run my own business, play catch at the park with my son, and spend time with my lovely wife. Hubba Hubba. So I am already retired if I get to do things I enjoy with people I love. I have a business to co-partner with my wife, (Logan Family Counseling) and children to raise, and I am developing websites when my little ball of fire, Miss Hannah Marie, is taking a nap. So how do we work with change, aging, growing? Luckily I have had to spend a great deal of time in the last three decades learning the road map to change, so I can recognize some of the issues which arise when it is time once again to change. (See This Site for a Sense of How I Manage Change) Actually, managing thinking and physiology are easier than you would think. Biofeedback, like HeartMath, or heart rate variability biofeedback is an excellent tool for managing physiology heart beat by heart beat. Chi Gong is an extraordinary tool for gathering and containing Chi, which, given how great it feels to do, is a valid tool for creating health and long life. And I am not dependent on a pill for either of those experiences. Once the Heartmath is learned, I can do it whenever I chose to cue it. Exercise is a key component of the change-growth-transformation continuum. So I get to the YMCA four times per week for systematic exercise. I say systematic because while I raked the yard yesterday, I only do that once or twice per year, and I cannot fool myself into thinking that is regular exercise.

Kris Carr has written an extraordinary book and filmed a documentary of her journey from diagnosis or victim of cancer through learning how to survive, and then thriving.

She is passing that message along to others who are creating their own recovery.

Her book is filled with humor and pathos as she lives. As she lives one day at a time.

If you note her blog in the RSS feed below, she is on her honeymoon now.

As Oprah would say, "You go girl."

And for those of you who care to help, if you purchase the book or DVD, or any of the essential3 aromatherapy products below, a percentage of the purchase goes to her foundation to help establish local outreach possibilities for other young people diagnosed with cancer.

Mind Sparke

Brain Fitness is in the media every day.

Neuroplasticity and neurogenesis are a given now, which overturns decades, if not centuries, of neuroscientific dogma.

Brain Fitness can now be practiced at home, on your computer, or online.

There are a number of very good products available which allow us older brains to induce neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, which allows us to develop a cognitive reserve, or even to ward of alzheimers.

But even more importantly, for a Dad like me, I am alive and vibrant for my children to play with. For example, I got to dance with my four year old daughter last night at a little fair put on by the Chamber of Commerce, and the look of delight in her eyes, and the whispered "I love you" was a gift I want to receive often, and I will do everything in my power to continue being available to hop about in the Village of Winnebago town square on an August night.

Anti Aging Creams Scientifically Proven

I have earned my wrinkles and bald head and grey fringe. I sport them with a bit of defiance too. And a bit of regret too, because I sometimes let all the "youth culture" advertising and media portrayals get under my skin. If I am not careful, I can get caught up in the search for the Fountain of Youth advertising for skin care products, and it has been my experience that those things are a waste. When I was in college I watched my buddies rub in conditioner, and smooth on gels and potions, and they, if they are still alive, are just as bald or wrinkled as I, so who benefitted from those purchases? Ahhh, the manufacturer you say, and that is correct. It would seem to me that my buddies bought into the media message that said they would be a bit ahead in the mating game if they bought products like that. And now it seems to me that manufacturers of skin creams are advertising the same theme to us baby boomers, sort of buy this product and look like the silver fox in the commercial, and the older women will flock to you. The older women I know are not so niave as to be influenced in their relationships by gels and creams, and if we consumers begin to look at the ingredients used on cosmetics, there are some real problems for our health. For example, it seems that the preservatives used in most cosmetics, or parabens, actually cause the free radical damage they proclaim to prevent. In fact, recent press in Japan has noted that methyl parabens, natural preservatives used in most skin care systems, can actually speed up the aging process. So why would a 59 year old guy, a guy well aware of the changes in libido and body that come with this stage of life, but a guy who lives life fully as a counselor, father, husband, and businessman be curious about anti-aging skin creams scientifically proven? Because there is a brand new product line coming to the market place made by a company whose products I have used for eight years. I have watched this company and they have worked diligently to sustain their committment to providing scientifically validated products to the market place. The scientific validation comes in the form of a U.S. patent (and over 20 international patents) in a brand new field of study called glyconutrients. The company is Mannatech and Mannatech is bringing their Optimal Skin Care System to the marketplace April 1, 2007. I take heed when an institution like MIT asks Mannatech to participate in forums about technologies that can change the future of medicine, like glyconutrients. So Mannatech says that their optimal skin care system is based on several break through technologies that help our skin repair itself to a level of vibrancy appropriate to our age. (Notice that you will not cover up "flaws" nor will your skin be like it was at 30). One of those technologies is called "clustered water" which makes it unneccessary to include methyl parabens or preservatives in the product because no fungi or bacteria can grow in "clustered water". (Perhaps you did not know that those things could grow in your cosmetics without the preservatives). I am a bit sceptical about buzz words and catch phrases after several decades of

Oh, and did I mention affiliate program income for the Frazzled Dad's Retirement Income. Anybody need running shoes? I found some excellent running shoes in a matter of moments at least $20.00 cheaper than I ever find them at my local department store. And if I add in the savings from not driving, and if I were to add in what my time is worth as a counselor, then I saved approximately $100.00 at Shopzilla.com by buying my running shoes (ok, more like trundling shoes at my age) online. I could buy two pairs and still come out ahead. Is it warm enough where you are to think about patio sets? Check this out.

glyconutrient optimal skin care system

So why would a guy my age (59), a guy who has never used skin care products, a guy who grew up with icons like John Wayne, and the Marlboro Man, and whose high school football coach used to exhort us to "spit on it (injuries) and go" suddenly become interested in an optimal skin care system.? You are thinking, "ahhh, mid-life crises. Soon he will ditch the wife and kids, buy that red sports car, and run off with the secretary...." Well, no, that is not it either. The reason I am standing in the bathroom daubing on skin cleansers, conditioners, ect. is because they are made by a company called Mannatech, the leading producer of glyconutrients in the entire world. I have been using their supplements since 1998 and I am very satisfied with those supplements, so I thought I would check into this new product line they are bringing to the United States. Especially after I began to look into the online market for skin care products. I think there is an opportunity here for online income from a brand new product made without preservatives, with a special kind of clustered water in which fungi and bacteria cannot grow. Premature aging of the skin is linked to the presence of chemicals, fragrances, dyes, colors, preservatives, or synthetics, which are used in the manufacture of skin care products. When you perspire, these chemicals mix with your body's natural oils, and alter their function. When the altered oils combine with sunlight (natural UV light), they produce free radicals which accelerate the aging process of your skin. So I had to order some from Japan where the Optimal Skin Care Line has been available since early in 2006, and where the products found great acceptance in the most competitive skin care market in the world. So I ordered some skin care products, one week trial packages, and began my secret experiment. I thought that if the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System worked, my wife, who is highly attuned to skin care issues and appearances, would notice and jump on the band wagon with me, but she walked in on me when I was daubing on the cream, long before any change would be apparent, and her eyes widened a bit, and I saw her think for a second or two, and then the teasing began. So I had to give her one of the trial packages to get some peace, and she likes how it feels when she showers. That is a great affirmation for the Mannatech Optimal Skin Care System .

Save My Marriage Today Secrets

I have been a counselor working with perpatrators of domestic violence for eleven years now, and have seen over and over the results of power and control tactics in human relationships. Sometimes those consequences involve the death of a spouse or significant other. Sadly, the most difficult consequences happen for the children in a marraige/relationship where the adults refuse to practice the basic skills spoken to in Save My Marriage Today. But perhaps you are not experiencing domestic violence or power and control tactics. Your marriage just is not as vibrant and alive as you want. Or you are looking for tools to Save Your Marriage Today. Well, the folks who put this manual together provide thoughtful and topical ideas and a philosophy that is encouraging and hopeful. I was actually quite surprised at the breadth and depth of their knowledge. I guess I expected an online manual titled Save My Marriage Today to be not like what I would use in my practice with troubled clients. But several times I found myself saying, "Wow, why hasn't somebody said it like that before?" For example, on page 39, Amy Waterman and her co-authors write this. "One important difference between negotiation and argument is that negotiation removes the emotion while arguments heighten it. When you argue, your heart rate goes up, and emotions feel more intense. You’ll do anything to be right, to get your way, to show the other person how much they’re wrong. Under the intoxicating effect of emotions, you may say or do things that you later regret." In fact, John Gottman in his work on marriage, has his clients learn to take their pulse rate, and if their pulse goes over 95 beats per minute, they are to take a time out, which might last 20 minutes. I really like Gottman's work, and when I see a similarity in Save My Marriagege Today, I am elated.

Recycled Sewage Water for drinking and cooking. When you hear that phrase, what comes to mind? If you are like me, there is a certain yuck factor involved, no matter what comes to mind. And I am thinking about what could be floating in recycled sewage water, and what kind of water purification technology could possible make that kind of water safe enough for the kitchen faucet.

Brain Health

Are you a boomer who fearlessly tried out a number of 'alternative' brain enhancement tools as a youth?

Not so fast now, that comment may not always mean "sex, drugs, rock and roll".

It might mean a committment to the communal experiments of the time, or a political cause, or a spiritual cause.

For example, I was initiated into the mysteries of Transcendental Meditation in the early '70's, but I lived with a bunch of burned out Viet Nam vets who would throw pizza boxes and beer cans at me anytime it looked to them like I was trying to meditate. (Not everything in the '60s was transcendent).

And now you are retiring, or closing in on that magical time, and you still have your pioneering curiosity, but your body has changed a bit since then, right?

Once in awhile, you cannot recall a word or you walk into a room and forget why you came into the room, and you are worried.

Well, believe it or not there are tools available now that will let us workout the brain to slow if not reverse that process that was once thought to be inevitable.

I am doing the workouts and I invite you to join me.
