In research for my lens The Lunacy of Religion I followed link after link online getting completely obsessed with the topic, and along the way I spend a few hours looking through photographs taken by the Hubble Telescope. The photographs are amazing, and it is surprising to me that people will limit the wonder and majesty of the universe to the sentence 'God did it'. The universe is far more beautiful and complex and awe-inspiring than that, and that is why I made this lens. In the history of modern astronomy, there is probably no one greater leap forward than the building and launch of the space telescope known as the Hubble. While NASA has had many ups and downs, the launch and continued operation of the Hubble space telescope probably ranks next to the moon landings and the development of the Space Shuttle as one of the greatest space exploration accomplishments of the last hundred years.

I love Alfred Hitchcock films! Rather than splatter the screen with gore, he terrifies us with suspense. He once said that any movie director could surprise his audience by setting off a bomb. But to show the audience a time bomb, ticking away under a desk as two men calmly discuss baseball, is far more elegant and terrifying. The audience is squirming in their seats, thinking, “Don't sit there talking about baseball... there's a bomb under the table!” The audience is overwhelmed with the desire to warn the characters of the danger which they perceive, and which the characters are not aware of. It's quite funny really. We now live in such a fast paced world, we hardly have time to even THINK anymore. We've all been there. We take tons of really great photos, then we lose them all! This has happened to almost everyone I know. And being the 'computer whizz' of the family I'm always the one who gets the phone calls from desperate friends and relatives who are trying to get back deleted photos. Sometimes the photos are accidentally deleted from the memory card. Sometimes they press the wrong buttons on their camera and watch in horror as all their photos vanish (this is probably the most common). Sometimes the memory card gives them error messages saying it's corrupt. And sometimes they just don't know what's happened, but they just want to get back their deleted photos! What's more painful than losing your photos?
