Kansas City Consignment Shops, Resale Shops, Thrift Shops For Valentines Gifts

Do you have items you no longer need? Exchange them for cash! Looking for good value without paying top prices? Check out Consignment Shops! Kansas City has plenty of places to explore both in Missouri and Kansas, from North Kansas City to Overland Park from upscale consignment to Valentine sales.

Whether you are looking for clothing for the baby, children or adults, maternity clothes, toys, furniture or art, you will find a resale shop listed on this page that just might have what you are looking for. I have organized the shops under categories to help you locate the different types of stores quickly,

"Consignment shop" is an American English term for second-hand stores that offer used goods, typically at a lower cost than new, including antiques, athletic equipment, books, clothing (especially children's, maternity, vintage and wedding clothing which are often not worn out), furniture, music, musical instruments, tools, and toys."

Goodbye Whitney Houston

The legendary pop star Whitney Houston died Saturday in Beverly Hills. Our thoughts go out to her family, especially her daughter Bobbi Kristina. Whitney was only 48 years old.

This is very sad news on the eve of the Grammys, the biggest music event of the year when so many celebrities will be celebrating their successes and Whitney was supposed to appear..

KuanYin-Guanyin-Bodhisavatta of compassion and mercy

Therefore should the mind be constantly fixed on her ~~ Lotus Sutra

Many years ago, before I had heard the name of Kuan Yin, I walked through a doorway and felt this Kuan Yin gazing down at me and it took my breath away. I sat down on the wooden bench in front of her for some length of time, not wanting to leave this enchanted presence. I watched as people came into the room and saw them experience the same reverence that I had at once felt. Even small children hushed their chatter as they entered her presence and could not take their eyes away from her.

In the following years, I have returned to this place of magic many times. It never loses it's power over me.

Written by Christian D. Larson almost 100 years ago, the Optimist Creed was authored in 1912 by Chistian D. Larson, appearing in his book Your Forces and How to Use Them. It was adopted as Optimist International's creed in 1922. Many have found inspiration in The Optimist Creed. In hospitals, the creed has been used to help patients recover from illness. In locker rooms, coaches have used it to motivate their players.

You can also print this page of The Optimist's Creed to read daily. Use it as a powerful tool to become the most brilliant magnet for magnificence and joy in your life.

The Missouri was the last U.S. battleship to be launched and the last to be decommissioned. She was also the most formidable. In addition to her massive firepower capabilities, she possessed thick steel armor plating that protected the hull (13.5 inches), the gun turrets (17 inches in front; 13 inches on the sides), the citadel (17 inches), and the conning tower sides (17.3 inches).

Celtic is pronounced like Kel-tic.

Mindfullness Bell

Listening to Thich Nhat Hanh one gradually attunes to the meditation bell which is much a part of his practice path. The mindfulness bell is the voice of our spiritual ancestors, he instructs: "Its sounds call us back to our true home in the present moment--to emptiness. When we inter-are, we find peace, stability, freedom--the root of our happiness. With non-self we discover the nature of emptiness."

*inter-are "So, for example, we 'inter-are' with a tree: if it is not there, we are not there either."

Chinese New Year 2012 Spring Festival

Monday, January 23, 2012

Gong Hey Fat Choy means "wishing you to be prosperous in the coming year."

Chinese New Year (also called the Spring Festival) is China's major traditional holiday and is one of the most popular festivals in China and in other parts of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam (where New Year's Day is called "Tet"), Malaysia, Taiwan, and of course, Hong Kong. It is also known as the Lunar New Year.

Officially, Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice (all months begin with a new moon). But Chinese New Year doesn't actually begin and end on a single day. Instead, it runs from the middle of the last month of the previous year (based on the Chinese calendar) to the middle of the first month of the new year. By the time the New Year arrives, families have already spent several days preparing for the big event; cleaning the house, buying gifts, and cooking festive foods.

How To Make Japanese Shabu Shabu (Chinese Hotpot)

I love Shabu Shabu, a Japanese dish that is cooked and eaten at the table. It's one-pot dish that involves cooking thin pieces of meat and/or vegetables in broth and dipping them in a variety of tasty sauces. When cooked at the table, it's a very sociable experience.

This lens will show you how to make Shabu Shabu at home to enjoy with your family and friends. It's an easy and entertaining way to share a meal.

If you don't want to prepare this at home, Check with your local Japanese or Chinese restaurants to see if they offer this option.

Japanese Gardens, Rock Gardens, Dry Landscapes

I love Japanese Gardens and have visited many in the United States and in Japan. I created this page as a resource for those who, like me, love Japanese gardens, are thinking about creating a garden or simply want to know more about them. I have included links to websites with information about popular Japanese Gardens, websites with photos of Japanese Gardens, instructions and materials for creating your own gardens and links to additional information.

Japanese gardens are places of tranquil beauty where man and nature are allowed to be as one, a place that creates an easy translation between outside and inside. The aesthetic qualities are evident even to the most casual observer, but the gardens provide reflective qualities as well.

"Kansas City," written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, was first performed in 1952 by Little Willie Littlefield at the Orchid Room at 12th and Vine Streets. It wasn't until 7 years later that Wilbert Harrison turned the song into a hit, becoming by far his most famous track.

The original title was "K.C. Lovin'."

If ever there was a month that we need help finding joy in our days, it's January. January is the month of short days with very little sun here in the Midwest. The Holidays are over and people are looking toward the new year with hope. Many people set goals and make resolutions, with intentions of making the coming year better than the last.

"Bid the past farewell,
and receive the year that has just been born.'"

"Whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to in January and February, at least we notice that the days are getting longer. Minute by minute they lengthen out." ~~Vita Sackville-West

Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers Speak

For the next 7 Generations: The Grandmothers speak. We are in the 11th hour!
"For many years, a spiritual teacher named Jyoti had been making relations with Indigenous wise women elders. Suddenly she found herself carrying a vision of a circle of Indigenous Grandmothers. Carrying this vision, she was on her way to Africa to meet an African shaman and medicine woman named Bernadette Rebienot. While there, she mentioned her vision to Bernadette and was surprised to hear that Bernadette was having the same vision. They committed to manifesting it. After returning to her home in California, Jyoti and her associate Ann Rosencranz sent out invitations to 16 Indigenous women from around the world to join them in a gathering. The 13 Grandmothers who responded had all received their own visions and heard their own ancestral prophesies. They were told that they would be called together at a critical time in history when their ancient knowledge was needed for the survival of the next generations." ~~For The Next 7 Generations

St. Patrick's Day Celebration

Wishing you the luck of the Irish! Dedicated to the Irish around the world. Being a Celtic Woman, I really enjoy celebrating St. Patrick's Day every year.

"Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated. Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday."

Aung San Suu Kyi (pronounced Ong San Soo Chee) Burma's pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace laureate, symbolises the struggle of Burma's people to be free from under one of the world's most BRUTAL regimes.

"On June 19th 2008, Aung San Suu Kyi, celebrated her 63rd birthday alone, under house arrest.

Celebrating May Day

May Day is a holiday which dates back to the pre-Christian Celts of western Europe. The Celtic May Day honored deities of the natural world with traditions that are still practiced today. Some people still celebrate this day. Will you? Please share if and how you celebrate this day in the Guest Book below.

"May Day is exactly a half-year from November 1, All Saints' Day. Marking the end of the uncomfortable winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, it has always been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations, regardless of the political or religious establishment."

Creating a Vision Board

As a kid, I knew how to create a vision board without even knowing what it was called. I bought a huge piece of cork board and wood to frame it and my friend's dad made what I then called "My Bulletin Board." Did I say it was huge? I posted everything there. If I saw a hair style I liked in a magazine, it went on the board (hey, I was a teen aged girl!) Photos of my friends, and people I wanted to be friends with, pictures of clothes from magazines, the car I wanted (for when I could have a car), upcoming events, places I wanted to go, people I admired (even movie stars) and so on. I don't know if kids still do that. Do they? You don't have to have a board as big and fancy as mine was. You can use a small pre-made cork board (available at hobby stores), a poster board (available at Walmart, K-Mart, office supply and more) or even just a piece of construction paper will do.

Looking for information about 11 11? You might be amazed at the information included here about 11 11 or you might think it's silly. November 11, 11/11, is a very special day for me for several reasons. And every time I see that number, it amazes me!

"Numerologists believe that events linked to the time 11:11 appear more often than chance or coincidence. This belief is related to the concept of synchronicity. Other authors believe it is an auspicious sign, and others that it signals a spirit presence." ~~~~Wikipedia

The War Documentary by Ken Burns

THE WAR, a new seven-part documentary series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, explores the history and horror of the Second World War from an American perspective by following the fortunes of so-called ordinary men and women who become caught up in one of the greatest cataclysms in human history.
Six years in the making, this epic 15-hour film focuses on the stories of citizens from four geographically distributed American towns - Waterbury, Connecticut; Mobile, Alabama; Sacramento, California; and the tiny farming town of Luverne, Minnesota. These four communities stand in for - and could represent - any town in the United States that went through the war's four devastating years. Individuals from each community take the viewer through their own personal and quite often harrowing journeys into war, painting vivid portraits of how the war dramatically altered their lives and those of their neighbors, as well as the country they helped to save for generations to come.

This includes answering the question "What is Retrograde Mercury", "How does this effect me", and "What can I do about it?"

Retrograde Mercury refers to the planet Mercury appearing to move backwards in the sky when viewed from the earth. This phenomenon occurs on an average of three times a year, for about three weeks at a time.

The Science of Getting Rich

Live the Life you imagine! That's what The Science of Getting Rich teaches. There are scientific laws about being rich and you have to follow these laws to be rich.

Wallace Wattles and Napoleon Hill have both written classic books about being rich. I have read The Science of Getting Rich and Think and Grow Rich several times over the last 3 decades and I highly recommend these authors and these two books in particular.

"If you have not consciously made the decision to be rich, excellent and healthy then you have unconsciously made the decision to be poor, mediocre and unhealthy." ~~Wallace Waddles

National Tartan Week

Celebrate the legacy of our shared heritage EVERY year during March and April--Tartan Week In the United States, there are more than 20 million people who can claim descent from Scotland, most of whom take immense pride in their Scottish heritage. Throughout much of the country, the first week of April has come to be known as Tartan Week as the festivities of Tartan Day have increased and are now celebrated throughout the week. The festivities include a wide range of activities, cultural events and ceilidhs ('KAY-lees' - parties with singing and dancing) that celebrate the vibrancy of Scottish culture, past and present.
Woodrow Wilson said: "Every line of strength in American history is a line colored with Scottish blood." And this year's Scotland Week once again confirms Scotland's place in the hearts of Americans - and Canada too!

April 6 designated TARTAN DAY by a Resolution passed by the U.S. Senate March 20, 1998 Numerous groups and societies throughout Canada and America have taken the anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath (1320) as their national date to celebrate their Scottish roots. On December 19th 1991, in response to action initiated by the Clans & Scottish Societies of Canada, the Ontario Legislature passed a resolution proclaiming April 6th as Tartan Day, following the example of other Canadian provinces. America followed suit on March 20th 1998, when Senate Resolution 155 (S.Res. 155), proposed by US Senate Republican majority leader Trent Lott, was passed unanimously.

Grants are funds given to tax-exempt nonprofit organizations or local governments by foundations, corporations, governments, small business and individuals. Most grants are made to fund a specific project and require some level of reporting. The process involves an applicant submitting a proposal to a potential funder, either on the applicant's own initiative or in response to a Request for Proposals from the funder. Other grants can be given to individuals, such as victims of natural disasters or individuals who seek to open a small business. Wikipedia

Namaste When meaning to say Namaste bring your hands together and place them near your heart while saying "Namaste" There are a variety of definitions, but the one I like best is below. I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells, I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace, When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are One. Namaste!

This Lens celebrates Women, especially during March - Women's History Month. The history of women often seems to be written with invisible ink. Even when recognized in their own times, women are often not included in the history books.

"International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday."

Buddhism Lenses Headquarters

I'm looking for The Very Best Lenses about Buddhism to add to this group.
Here's what I am looking for in a lens: 1. Relevance to the group 2. Personal Contribution - not just a list of links. You need real, substantive content regarding Buddhism: an informational lens, a SquidWho on someone connected to Buddhism. 3. I don't accept just any lens about Buddhism. It needs to be very specific to this topic. 4. Quality - at least 5 "likes" 5. At least 4 modules (not just selling stuff) 6. No empty modules 7. A Guestbook or Contact me (some way to contact lensmaster) 8. You really need a bio and picture, and I prefer a photo for your lens, too! 9. Must fit my vision for the Group Sometimes a lens simply doesn't fit what I want to represent with this lens.

Lamar Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs' owner who was a founder of the American Football League and one of the leaders of the AFL-NFL merger, has died. Remembered as a humble and inventive entrepreneur, Hunt also came up with the term "Super Bowl." He died Wednesday night at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas due to complications from prostate cancer, Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said. Hunt was 74. "He wanted people to love the sports like he did," his wife Norma said. "He loved sports so much, he was so passionate about them and he wanted others to share the joy." ******* Lamar Hunt died December 13, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Upon his death Cowboys owner Jerry Jones called Hunt, "a founder of the NFL as we know it today.... He's been an inspiration for me." Before his death one of his grandchildren asked if "they have a football team in heaven... Well, I know if there isn't, Pappy will start one." ~ info from Wikipedia

What is Relationship Marketing? Have you heard of Relationship Marketing or Permission Marketing before? Seth Godin says "Permission marketing is the privilege (not the right) of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who actually want to get them." Relationship Marketing speaks to the reader and not at them. It's about relating to what the buyer wants or needs!

In Relationship Marketing your goal is to be genuine and create a connection with your prospective client or customer. It is more essential to think long term than to just accomplish a one time purchase.

"Every thought we think is a flower of life's garden, and not the permanent possession of anyone. Let our thoughts, then, be fragrant and beautiful, not rank and ugly, that the memory we leave behind us be felt as a blessing on the earth."

One day a year we have a chance to treat dad special (other than his birthday) and show him appreciation for all that he means to us. One part of that special recognition can be a heartfelt card, something to hold in the hand, to read the words that say how much he means to us over and over. A priceless moment that can be repeated as often as desired
