A funny story about basenjis

When I post this picture of my meteorite to the list, trying to sell it, I got an interesting email from other meteorite collector, Ray Stanford from Maryland. That is what he wrote: " The nicest 'meteorites' on your website are the red-and-white one, and the tri-color one. (The four legged ones, the 'Basenjiites'.) How much are they per gram? :) Over the years, my wife and I had two Basenjis. Or rather, two Basenjis had us! :) They were both the red-and-white type, and the one named Brother Sun was very amazing. He always sang to music without any coaching or training, spontaneously, but only to one composer, CHOPIN! If one of us turned the radio on to a classical music station, and a piece of music had already started playing and even if my wife and I did not recognize the composer, if Brother Sun ran to the radio speaker and started singing (always rising in tone with ascending musical passages and lowering in tone with descending passages, and ending each passage right on time), you could be sure it was his beloved CHOPIN! Even if some composer's work was 'Chopinesque', it never fooled Brother Sun. He never, ever sang to any music, other than that of Chopin! -- EVER! How this dog could recognize ANY Chopin piece and always only sang to Chopin, will remain perhaps the greatest mystery of my life! He did it hundreds of times, without any coaching, of course. Usually he could recognize a Chopin composition within three measures of the composition!!! Judging from the two photos on your website, I presumed you have Basenji's, so I thought you might enjoy knowing about Brother Sun and his very mysterious talent." This story really amazed me. Very soon I'll tell you my story about MY two basenjies - Tucson and Basjia, whom made me really crazy last week.

A greatest observed iron fall on Earth - meteorite Sikhote-Alin

The largest shower in historical time occurred in Eastern Siberia on February 12, 1947. The unique phenomenon was observed by many eyewitnesses and has been the subject of numerous, very thorough studies by the Russian scientists. In full daylight, a fireball moved from north to south and, about 10:38 A.M. local time, fragmented in the Earth's atmosphere. When this iron fell it went off like a grenade. The debris covered an elliptical area of 1.6 km on the snow-covered western spurs of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains. The apparent diameter of the bolide with its luminous envelope was estimated to be 600 m. The brightness exceeded that of the sun, according to eyewitnesses, and the dust trail was observed for several hours before the particles precipitated or were scattered by the wind. Most of the impacting meteorites did not, however, penetrate the eluvial and alluvial debris, which covered the bedrock with 1-2 m thicklayers, and moreover, at the time of impact, were solidly frozen to adepth of one meter.... ...Sikhote-Alin is a coarse iron octahedrite. It's composition is as follows: 5.9% nickel, 0.42 % cobalt, 0.46% phosphorus, 0.28% sulfur, smaller amounts of germanium and iridium, and the remainder (approximately 93%) is iron. The following minerals are present: taenite, plessite, rhabites, troilite, chromite, kamacite, and schreibersite crystals...(see more at original site sikhote.com) Misspelling or wrong spell term - ikhote, skhote, sihote, sikote, sikhte, sikhoe, sikhot, iskhote, skihote, sihkote, sikohte, sikhtoe, sikhoet, ssiikhote, sikkhote, sikhhote, sikhoote, sikhotte, sikhotee, sskhote, siihote, sikkote, sikhhte, sikhooe, sikhott, zikhote, aikhote, dikhote, sakhote, sukhote, sokhote, sijhote, silhote, sikgote, sikjote, sikhite, sikhpte, sikhore, sikhoye, sikhotw, sikhotr

Because the mineral deposition in mollusk shells is strongly biologically controlled, some crystal forms are distinctively different from those of inorganic aragonite. In some mollusks, the entire shell is aragonite; in others, aragonite forms only discrete parts of a bimineralic shell (aragonite plus calcite). Aragonite - search on eBay here.

Jet as a gem material was highly popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, during which the Queen wore Whitby jet as part of her mourning dress. Jet was popular for mourning jewellery in the 19th century because of its sombre color and modest appearance, and it has been traditionally fashioned into rosaries for monks. In the United States, long necklaces of jet beads were very popular during the 1920s, or Roaring Twenties, when women and young flappers would wear multiple strands of jet beads stretching from the neckline to the waistline. In these necklaces, the jet was strung using heavy cotton thread; small knots were made on either side of each bead to keep the beads spaced evenly, much in the same way that fine pearl necklaces are made. Jet has also been known as black amber, as it may induce an electric charge like that of amber when rubbed. Powdered jet added to water or wine was believed to have medicinal powers.
