Adopting an endangered animal is a fun way to make a real difference to the survival of the species. Adopting an animal also makes a great and imaginative gift idea for any animal lover.

The Basics

There are a couple of different ways to adopt animals, the one I am going to concentrate on here is one of the simplest and most popular. You make a one off payment and in return you adopt an animal for a year.

You will receive an adoption pack including a nice cuddly toy and a photograph as well as information on your animal and how your donation is being used to help. When activated you also receive an email newsletter and a personalised certificate. This is what makes it a great gift all for about £20.

The Animals

These are the endangered animals available to adopt:

Dolphin

Dolphins are inquisitive, playful and among the most intelligent creatures on Earth. Few animals hold such a firm place in the public's affections making an adopt a dolphin gift a great gift for any animal lover. Adopting a dolphin means you can help protect the species into the future.

Panda

The giant panda has become symbolic of WWF's tireless work to protect endangered species throughout the world. By adopting a panda you will help the WWF save this species and protect the future of the wild panda population.

Polar Bear

There are less than 25,000 polar bears left in the wild today. Global warming is causing their habitat to shrink, threatening numbers further. By adopting a polar bear you will help the WWF tackle these issues and protect the future of the wild polar bear population.

Tiger

The tiger is the largest member of the cat family and one of the most endangered. At the turn of the 19th century over 100,000 tigers roamed the earth, today tigers have declined by around 95 per cent in 100 years. Adopting a tiger means you can help protect the species into the future.

Orangutan

The orangutan is one of our closest and most intelligent relatives in the animal kingdom. Unfortunately it is also one of the most endangered. By adopting an orangutan, you will help the WWF give these primates the chance to live in relative safety, away from poaching and help protect their habitat from destruction.
