XSitePro 2 Review

I've been developing web sites for since the 1990s, and I can tell you I've tried literally dozens of "web site builder" applications that promise you "one-click" solutions when it comes to making a professional web site.  Nearly every one of those tools fell short on their promises by a large margin.  I stuck to creating my own sites for years until I came across the original XSitePro.

While I typically shy away from tools that dumb-down the design process (because they produce dumb-downed web pages) I was very impressed from the outset of the depth of options XSitePro gave you.  You could customize your site's design, colors, and a variety of other parameters were easy to set through the interface.  Once you were done you could "publish" the site with the built-in ftp client.  All in all it was a great tool for producing quality web sites.

While the initial version of XSitePro was powerful there has been a significant gap in the time it's taken to release the sequel.  In that time quite of few things have changed in web design, from CSS as an accepted standard, to RSS feeds and video.  We've all waited patiently (for the most part) for the new version to be released.  XSitePro developers have been very closed-lipped about their latest version, but finally we have been presented with a taste of XSitePro 2.

In a webinar put on by an excellent presenter named Richard Butterworth we were allowed an exclusive glimpse into the power of XSitePro 2.  There have been enough changes and additions to make this warrant a brand new title.  The wait was definitely worth it!  I'll summarize a few of the new features that will be available:

The new interface is quite professional and updated.  All the information is presented in a clean consistent manner, and yet the look and feel is reminiscent of the older version enough to ease the transition to the new product.  We were told this was an important consideration.

The templates provided with XSitePro were rather simple in hindsight.  XSitePro 2 takes a new tack and provides hundreds of professional, dynamic and CSS-capable template designs for you to choose from.  These aren't your typical "free" templates either, but good-looking designs you'd actually want to use to make your sites.

A few new areas were added to the templates to allow even more customization.

In an effort to keep this readable I'll try and summarize some of the new features:

One of the neater new features is the new forms widget. It ties in directly with mailing list management systems like AWeber and List Mail Pro to handle automatic updates to your list. This feature could alone pay for the product!

Often situations where you want to use the same page across multiple sites.  XSitePro 2 allows you to create "Page Templates" you can use to quickly create reoccurring content. Templates are provided for article pages, contact us, press release, privacy statement, and product information.  All of these templates allow for customization and style changes.

The Power Center of XSitePro 2, as Richard Butterworth calls it.  It's true, the right-click menu in XSitePro always provided an easy and quick way to customize a page.  Now there's a tremendous amount of power added:

• RSS Feed Wizard - Add an RSS feed as content, select a feed, customize style, insert into page


• Insert streaming audio - Adds playback controls


• Insert video - converts to web format


• Widgets - Banner rotators, image gallery, popups, faqs. Print page, image rollovers, email cloaker


• Site Search - requires PHP, exclude pages from search


• Forms Wizard - Works with XMailPro, AWeber, Get Response, List Mail Pro, or standard email.


• Advertising - Amazon, Google, PayPal


• PayPal Advertising - Allows selling of digital products


• Social Network Link

To me one of the most powerful features is the ability to create a button that allows you to sell digital product downloads.  As an author web ebooks and other sellable digital content this really caught my eye.  It allows you to add a button to your site that will direct a customer to PayPal for payment, and then back to your download page on a successful transaction.  All done in less than 30 seconds!  It is a powerful feature that no other web site design product has.  I'll buy it for this feature if nothing else.

You can now schedule pages to be published at a specific date to "trickle" content to your web site.  This is an incredibly powerful capability many have been asking for for years.  Since Google likes to see constant updates to sites, this feature allows you to naturally grow you web site over time.  Just what the doctor ordered!

The infamous "Other Page" where XSitePro Addons were available in the original version has been updated for version 2.  Richard barely touched on the list of features because of a limitation in time.  Some of the highlights include:

• Mobile Site Generation - Make a whole new version of your site optimized for mobile devices.


• Siloing - Create a virtual or physical interlinked site structure


• Links Page - Auto loads data from web page


• XML Syndication - Create an RSS feed

With annual sales of 1 billion units, and 25% of those users browsing the web, mobile accessible versions of your content can mean big money!  You can create a mobile site (that's automatically updated) in minutes!

Siloing is also a popular method of content organization that can be quite successful.  XSitePro 2 now has it!

The Page Analysis tab replaces the old SEO Page from the original XSitePro.  There are ton of features available, with a variety of ways to see how your pages stack up.  I've seen separate SEO packages that don't have the same level of functionality!

There's so much more to the update that hasn't been covered here because of lack of space.  Let's just say that the time between XSitePro version 1 and version 2 has been put to good use.  It's definitely a value at the retail price of $297.  I don't typically think many Internet marketing products are ever worth their 3-figure price tag.  In this case I was thinking of an even higher number during the course of the webinar.  A considerable value for those who want to create custom, professional web sites quickly!

Upgrades from version 1 are available for $127, which I think is an awesome thank you to their current customers.  An even bigger deal is that for the first 30-days after the launch on May 20th they are lowering the upgrade price by $30 to just $97!  It should be a no-brainer to anyone who owns the original version of the product.
