Yamaha RX-397 Receiver Features?
Product Description
The RX-397 is capable of outputting 50 watts of power per speaker channel. This receiver also provides an extended frequency response range of 10Hz to 50kHz, enabling the use of high quality sound sources such as SACD and DVD-Audio. Yamaha has integrated "Pure Direct" technology into the RX-397, which has been designed to optionally bypass unwanted treble and base alterations, therefore improving overall sound quality. For users with more than one set of stereo speakers, the A-B switch can be used to produce more sound. This unit also includes an AM-FM tuner with 40 preset stations. The RX-397 has five audio inputs plus a phono input for connecting a turntable. A remote control is included.

Here's some snippets of personal reviews of the Yamaha RX-397 receiver..."...this is a superb receiver in all respects. Some people may think that they need more than this receiver's rated power of 50 watts per channel, but Yamaha's power ratings are extremely conservative and this receiver will drive virtually any speakers to deafening levels (which I don't recommend doing). More important than its ample power is its very low distortion. Yamaha specializes in low distortion products for very clean sound. In addition to robust power and ultra-low distortion the RX-397 has a full complement of controls, plus an easy to use remote..."
"...I'm very satisfied with the performance of this receiver. I was looking for a receiver with medium power and one which did not have all the extras such as surround sound, etc. The Yamaha RX-397 design is simple but yet provides everything I need. I especially like the continuous adjustable loudness control which allows for low power settings without sacrificing bass or treble.
The RX-397 has plenty of power to drive two sets of speakers and also features an output impedance switch to match your speakers.
A very good buy for the price. Highly recommended..."

Yamaha's power ratings are not inflated, so the 50 watts is real, and ample for my room+speakers.
