Hi from out on the frontier! My name is Shelli Johnson. I'm 37, and operate a business called Yellowstone Journal Corporation. Our website is YellowstonePark.com. We are the biggest fans of Yellowstone Park, the world's original national park. Our company publishes two magazines, Yellowstone Journal, which covers in-depth news about the environment, ecology, geysers, wolf reintroduction, grizzly bear management, winter use, fishing, hiking, and other interesting topics, and "99 Things to Do in Yellowstone County," a print and online magazine that is the most popular and foremost guide on all the things there are to do in the greater Yellowstone region. YellowstonePark.com was voted the "#1 tourism website in the World" by the Webby Award's People's Voice last year. What this means is we're a company for the people! We love Yellowstone and the states surrounding it, including Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, and we strive to share all we know about it with the public, who are all stakeholders of our treasured national parks.

Yellowstone Park blog

Yellowstone vacation guideblog written by customers

We think we're experts on Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding states when it comes to things to do and trip-planning advice. However, we also realize that customers trust other customers. We serve people and so, we asked our customers at YellowstonePark.com to write their own version of "Things to Do on a Yellowstone Vacation." This growing blog is a result of that.

Ramblings for topics of columns I will write whenever time permits.

A notebook full of column-worthy topics

--Toys that take one hour to open the packaging. What is the point of the twisties tying in each of the superhero's limbs? How much is spent on labor and packaging to cause this much grief for parents? Even if the packaging is done in China and India and the workers who do this like their jobs, it really is excessive, isn't it? Ok, ridiculous. I can take a shower and cook dinner in the time it takes my husband to open the packaging for one of our sons' power ranger heros. LIFE IS TOO SHORT.
--On the way to my first horse-packing expedition, my dad said, "Whatever you do, never trust a horse." Upon arriving at camp and meeting our guide, the first advice he gave was, "Always trust your horse." At many times I have found myself at such a cross roads.
--Multi-tasking. I've got to be on the best of the best. But I am now reading more and more articles about how "multi-tasking makes you stupid." Crud.
--"Why Gender Matters" is a great book, based on the scientific differences between boys and girls. Any adult, parent, teacher, CEO, manager, etc., should read this book. Or, at least anyone who works with, lives with or plays with the opposite sex. It's extremely insightful and you'll be better for it.
--Soon we'll be able to upload knowledge to our brain. If you're a left brain engineer but want to be an artist, no problem. In a few years you'll be able to install bits into your brain and upload knowledge. How cool is that?
--I used to hate science fiction. But now, given the speed at which technology is increasing, sci fi not so far from reality. And I love technology and gadgets and the possibilities of the increasing technology. Still not up for Star Trek, but bring on the Matrixx.
--I had ACL reconstruction in Montana in 1986 after blowing out my knee in basketball practice with the University of Montana Lady Griz. I had surgery during the afternoon on Oct. 31. When I came out of anesthesia, no lie, the nurse working on me was dressed like the devil. For a moment I thought I had died and went to hell. This wasn't funny.

Yellowstone Country Map

Yellowstone Park and surrounding region

There is no space like ours in Yellowstone country. Wyoming is a big state, but only 450,000 people call it home. There are more animals than people and lots of high mountains and big open vistas. Hard-working, resilient, friendly, loyal and independent people live and work here. Yellowstone country is comprised of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. But our company and website, YellowstonePark.com, operate out of beautiful Lander, Wyoming, located in a county that has 50 peaks standing over 13,000 feet tall.

About YellowstoneShelli

Hi from out on the frontier, in beautiful Wyoming! My name is Shelli Johnson. I'm 37, and operate a business called Yellowstone Journal Corporation. Our website is YellowstonePark.com, and we are very proud of what we're promoting, which is a vacation of a lifetime in our Authentic old west, rugged and remote region.

The Historic South Pass marks the point where 350,000 early settlers traveling the Oregon Trail headed west crossed the Continental Divide. The Oregon Buttes served as a reference point for these early settlers and folks with gold fever who had their sights set on Oregon or California.

After walking a stretch of the Oregon Trail with Jerry and our boys, I sat on a lawn chair and officially started my own emigration, to satisfy my own version of 'gold fever.'

I listened to podcast after podcast about the future of tech, with the Oregon Buttes in sight.

I was on a gold rush to discovery in a matter of a single afternoon as I listened to podcasts that were playing from my iPod, which was working with my iTrip and iPal. I listened as John Furrier interviewed Wired Magazine's Chris Anderson about "The Long Tail" . I listened to Furrier interview the podcasting legend Adam Curry, who was eating a cookie that I could almost taste. It was that real!
