Health professionals use the terms 'depression', 'depressive illness' or 'clinical depression' to refer to something very different from the common experience of feeling miserable, or fed up, for a short period of time.
Symptoms of Depression include: Persistent sad, anxious or "empty" feelings; feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism; feelings of guilt, worthlessness and/or helplessness, irritability and restlessness; Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex; fatigue and decreased energy; difficulty concentrating, remembering details and making decisions; suffering insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping; Overeating, or appetite loss; thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts; Experiencing persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment.
Illnesses that often co-exist with depression are varied but generally include arthritis, heart disease, or even cancer.
Depression seems to be related to a number of things. Depression can be linked to events in your life, such as the death of someone you love, a divorce or job loss. Depression isn't caused by personal weakness, laziness or lack of willpower. Depression can usually be treated through visits to your doctor. It can be reliably diagnosed and treated in primary care. Depressions tend to recur so it is very important to stay on treatments for long enough to help prevent the depression from coming back.

See that terms used to be an alien term to me!
However, in 1997, whne I lost my girl-friend. I suffered severe depression. I also suffered Easting Disorder.
Let me explain. When I was depressed. I tried my best to stuff myself with Mars bar and Coke drink!
You cannnot belief it, my friends! My whole cabinet is full of Mars bars! My whole fridge is stocked up with Coca-cola. Seriously, there was no joke here!
When my friends came around, they all kidded me that I could set up a Seven-Eleven shop selling just Mars bars and Coca-cola!
That was when I was unhappy because eating disorders disrupted your entire life. Eating disorders even destroyed my relationships with others because I never treated my friends with all the Mars bars and Coke! How horrible I was - so they siad.
Anyway my life was miserable.
However, when I was introduced to this slim and "always-happy" person, she todl me about Yoga!
Heck Y.O.G.A? Sounds more liek YOYO to me! Yoga - what on earth was that! I had not a clue?!?!?!
I just wnated my Mars Bars, dude!
She was so friggin persistent - using all the methods to persuade me to go to teh Yoga class. Seriously that made me laugh! Never thought that YOYO ran a training class!
But when I turned up - wow - lots of beautiful men and women. They are all friendly people! I finally realised that eating disorders do not need to stay with me forever. I can do something to find back to normal, pleasant eating habits.
I did! Here I am!
Now I practise Yoga (NOT YOYO ok?) all the time! I even teach Yoga now.
