I'm standing here eating my "breakfast" (I'm a night owl so I get breakfast about 2 pm) and thinking about all the crazy stuff I do with yogurt.
Yogurt really is a wonder food. It is excellent for the digestion. My dear hubby has digestion problems, but hates yogurt - thus my creativity.

Some of my whacky yogurt ideas
I have come to a point where I actually LIKE the taste of plain, nonfat unflavored yogurt. So does my puppy and my cats. So we usually share a few spoons full once a day.
I buy fresh fruit, chop and mix with my yogurt. If I wind up with some canned fruit for one reason or another - you guessed it, into the yogurt it goes.
This morning I did something that was probably rather weird, but it was good. I happen to love cereal with wheat flakes and raisins. Now and then I get a craving for it. I don't indulge it often because I use almost no milk for any other purpose and I hate the flavor of reconstituted dry milk...so what happens is I buy a box of cereal, a small container of milk, and then try to finish the cereal before the milk goes sour. This time around I failed - I tossed the milk out two days ago and still have half a box of cereal...but I do have...yogurt. I tried some of those little containers of yogurt they were selling at the store with granola last year (chuckle) and that was pretty good...You guessed it, the raisin cereal went into the yogurt this morning. And it was good :D
More ways to sneak yogurt into the hubby's diet
- Use Yogurt to replace sour cream in almost any recipe
- Make raita (a quick, easy, cold Indian soup - I'll give you the recipe at the end of the lens!)
- Use yogurt in mashed potatoes instead of milk (don't tell my husband)
- Use yogurt instead of half the milk in macaroni and cheese (don't tell my husband)

I love yogurt. I was told by a doctor when I was a young girl that I should eat one yogurt a day to help with my stomach problems and I have to say when I stick to that, it does help. Posted October 15, 2007 |
Quick Easy Raita
Raita is a cold soup used to clear the palette between or after spicy dishes
Yogurt
Cucumber
Carrot
Mint, Coriander, Cilantro - any or all
lemon or lemon juice
Adjust the amounts to taste and to the number of people you expect to feed. Chop the cucumber fine & save the juice, too. Shred the carrot VERY fine. Whichever of the spices you have or prefer and just a tablespoon or so of lemon juice to a cup of yogurt. Just to give it a bit of tang. Whip with a fork or whip or even in the food processor if you want it really smooth. Chill and serve cold. With an Indian meal it is used to clean the palate between spicy dishes.
