The Yorkshire Terrier Is A Great Family Pet
Without question this little critter is special. We find her to be an extremely intelligent family pet. They have a very unique and independent spirit about them that they carry with great pride. They become part of the family and demand to be attended too. They love all the affection you can spare and will not let you forget about them.
Our Maddie is extremely energetic and protective of us. She is always on alert and will let you know if something is out of place.
My kids enjoy playing with her every day. I cant tell you how many times they have played hide and seek. She seems to love to bury things something awful so it is important to let them have some outdoor time. This way they don't go hog wild on your carpet.
The Yorkie will weigh in between 3 and 7 lbs respectively and is known as a toy breed. This breeds smaller versions are referred to as Tea Cups.
Some of its natural traits can interfere with other smaller pets. If left untrained your pet can soon become master of the house. Known to be intelligent and a bit manipulative when properly taught they make for the perfect companion.
Expect to spend quality time with a Yorkie as they need it daily. Given their long hair brushing and grooming are daily chores.
Here is a lens for you to share my happiness and hopefully pass some of it on to you. I have placed some links here to help you quickly find accessories for your Yorkie.

Yorkshire Terrier History
Where did my Yorkie come From?
This adorable creature was bred to be what was or is called a "ratter". They hunt and kill mostly vermin like rats and mice. Their small size allows them to chase their prey into small holes or dens and obviously conquer.Terriers specialize in pursuing animals. Anything willing to chase after a rat and corner them in their home or den is without question a brave and courageous animal. As the name imply s Yorkshires come from the rugged Northern England, Yorkshire region. During the mid 19th century while England's Industrial Revolution the blood line starts to come together when miners and mill workers started coming to the city for work. Specifics to the bloodline are still very questionable.
The dominate traits though are the English Black and Tan Terrier is where many believe the dominate colors come from. Some people even believe the Maltese originating in Asia may be involved in the bloodline.
Yorkshire Terriers were first given their breed name in 1874.

Treats Make Us All Happy!

Basic Training Tips
Train them yourself for a rewarding bond that lasts a Lifetime
Guess what ? Your little companion likes treats. Big surprise right. So we are going to use the positive reward system to get them to want to play along. After a command or request like "sit" or "stay" give them and enthusiastic response and a little treat. These Yorkie's are temperamental so make sure you do not give them to much of a bad thing. So be careful what you use for a treat.
After a while of daily "sit and stay" "come and go" commands start only giving the treats every third time and slowly back it down to just your positive reaction. You can continue this with any trick you choose. The Yorkshire Terrier loves the reinforcement you give them. So ham it up !
If you have the time make sure you train your Yorkie yourself. The experience and bond will be plenty of reward.

The Yorkshire Terrier Is In The Top Ten Most Popular Breeds According To Kennel Clubs
Known to be stuborn the Yorkie needs to start training immediately
The Yorkie is extremely cute and adorable. But don't let that fool you. They can be extremely stubborn and tenacious. If not shown who's boss they will just assume it is them. Use a strict routine from the very start to get your pet to understand and enjoy the attention.
This breed is known to have trouble being house broken. you must deal with this from the start to have the least resistance to your request. Set specific times to go outside. Take walks and play. The more rigid the routine the better.
If you take the time to train your Yorkie you will be very pleased with the result. They are eager to please and will step right in line when shown the way. With your love and attention the Yorkshire Terrier will make a great family pet. Always being loyal and obedient.
