A very Startling Statistic about Home Businesses:
Is that 90% plus of all Home Businesses fail within the first year or less. Yet last month close to 9 million searches were done on Google of people looking for a Home Business. It's obvious people want it but why are they failing at such a high rate. Could it be desire? Could it be Resources? What it really boils down to is one thing, Ignorance or the lack of knowledge. (In this article we'll be talking about Goals and Products/Services).
It has been said before that what you don't know can't hurt you and ignorance is bliss. This may be true in some areas of life but in Home Based Businesses nothing could be further from the truth. This ignorance often shows up in 2 main areas, Goal Setting and choosing a product/service for your Home Based Business.

When it comes to setting goals for a Home Business:
Many people fail to hit their target because they don't know what target they are aiming at. Often times when people think of goals they think very generically. For example I want to make a lot of money in my Home Business. Sounds like a good goal but here's the problem, what is a lot of money? It could be $100,000 a year. For someone else that could be $50,000 per month and for someone else $10,000 per day. Whatever your goals are they have to be well defined and very specific. Specific goals lead to specific actions which produce specific results.
Let's take our example above:
Let's say you want to make $100,000 per year with your Home Business. That information then needs to be broken down into how many sales I need to make, how many people I need to recruit, how many prospects I need to generate to make the amount of sales I need, and it can go on and on and get very detailed and very specific. When this happens it becomes very easy to plan your activities because you know the results you are looking to achieve. The ultimate level is to get to the place where you can answer the question. What do I need to do today to achieve my goal? When your actions can become that specific you not only have great knowledge of your goals but are well on your way to achieving them with your Home Business.
Choosing the right product or service for Your Home Business:
Market research is vitally important to your success. Before you dive into a Home Business and start spending money advertising or promoting that Business do some research of your own. Don't get captured by the comp plan. People get sucked in all the time because they see a great compensation plan and they start getting visions of Rolls Royce's dancing in their heads. If a product can't stand by itself then the compensation plan is worthless. To avoid a Home Based Business failure the product or service you choose to market should be able to hold its own in the marketplace and compete with similar products in the market. If it can't then that company can't stay in business, regardless of what they tell you on the conference calls. That's why it is not always best to join brand new companies. Find a company whose products and services have been tested over time and have been proven to live up to the test. Make sure that you do your Due-Diligence.
So in Closing:
You have now learned the first steps to take in avoiding Home Business failure. Always remember to treat your business like a Business and not a hobby (Remember hobbies cost money were as a Home Based Businesses makes money).Your Business is not some little "thing" you do on the side. Treat it like a million dollar enterprise because it very well may be.
